All foreigners who live, lived or have visited Russia can agree on one thing, Russia is an amazing country. Now I’m not gonna do a pitch on how amazing it is. It is however, my adopted country and I can say one thing for sure, Russia gets ridiculously bad press!!!!
The reason I started this project was so we can honestly show what Russia is really like. This is to benefit anybody wanting to visit Russia and wants honest information. This is not Government sponsored or any sort of propaganda. On this site you will see the good and the bad.
My name is Sam Hyland. I am an Englishman living in Russia since 2004. I have been involved in a number of different projects during my time here and had lots of experiences, good and bad. As a foreigner, I understand the difficulties of moving to Russia (Not because Russia is a big, bad, scary country) because while it maybe big, it is far from scary! Russia is an exciting country and has lots to offer anyone who would like to give it a try.

One fun thing that followers can do is to take the name of the location you mention as a reference then using Google Maps street view and taking a stroll around the place and finding stuff out. Lack of international food? How about learning to cook? Seriously! It's not that hard and with all the international recipes online there's so much choice to select from. Also, it seems that women like men who can cook. 😉

Too late for me to move to Russia (70) and my wife probably wouldn't want to go even though she's an English teacher (Argentine national). We are having so many problems in England and Argentina is not feasible for a variety of reasons. It keeps me sane that I can watch channels like this and find info about what I've known for many years that the Russian people are warm, friendly people and it's such a shame that they are being ostracised by the West. That said, the world is a far bigger place than the collective West thinks it is and I'm sure that Russia has many friends throughout the world. On a side note, if anyone wants to email me about life in Russia I'd be very interested to exchange info ( edit that Sam if I'm out of line). Good luck.

Sam, just one clarification, Russians and people from the former Soviet Union Block can be your friends just because they are friendly and respect you, not because they want to benefit from you and learn English or get free drinks. Right, I wasn’t trying to insinuate that Russian people will you a person. Just that if they come to teach then they will have people who will become their friends.
Yes, everyday I meet new Russians and all have been kind, friendly and generous. it is part of the culture and one reason I love living here, where just taking a walk usually means meeting an interesting person who is worth knowing. People are laid back, are not stressed by differences, and value personal traits more than money or status. My home country, the US is a stressful place where few people are really honest because none of their government is honest. To Americans the world is a fearful place to be crushed or conquered and no lie to too exterme to accomplish that goal.

Then you should have made better life choices.
You would be much better off moving to Russia. How can some one work and not have normal life needs met? In the US that is common to wor every day and never able to pay the debts. The US used to have a strong middle class but now that one is still called middle class but has no saving, no assets, only never ended debt. When I return home to California from Russia every 4-5 years for 2 weeks I am shocked by how many people who had middle class life styles 30 years ago are extremely stressed by debt and greatly increased cost of living. I sometimes feel guilty to have moved out and have zero debt, a great active life style without stress and filled with cultures, interesting activities and beautiful nice women. I have been gone 23 years and every day has been interesting and enjoyable. I have been in 92 countries and find the non-western countries to generally have more security and better quality of life than current day North America or Europe. That much debt just to not be on the streets is rare in the world except in the collective west.

I enjoy your videos quite a lot, most vloggers usually just sit in a room with a camera pointed at them or just walk around in the big cities. You actually show us the real deal with complete honesty, you shy away from the sell outs. I personally believe you deserve your own tv show on discovery channel.

The best income for teachers are in specialties like law, banking, medicine or early childhood development. I know a girl who came here from New Zealand who was a stage actor known for her classical work, 22 yo and loved it here, every one LOVED her due to being pretty but most because she had been trained in the classical theater to have a speaking voice that elegant and refined. She visited Moscow and someone overheard her voice in a cafe and asked her to come to thier home to talk with their little girls. The woman was wealthy and had a beautiful flat in center Moscow. That started a career for herself teaching Russian children formal speech in English. She was able to buy a nice apartment cash in 6 months of work and travel all over the world being the traveling tutor for kids when the family would go on extended holiday.
Russians want to now English because it is the international travel language so if you see a person from China talking to someone from the middle east, they will be communicating in a modified version of English and the better one speaks the more doors open. Far more people speak English as a second or 3rd language than people who speak natively . The countries with the most English speakers are China and India. More Chinese speak English than all North America. The common language with the new economic world order of BRICS++ will be English because 76% of the world population is now in that trade block as the largest in history. In less than a year, due to aggressive sanctions, the shift of world economy and unity has shifted from the 400 year era of the west to the east which was the center of the economic and cultural world for 5000 years.

I also had panic attacks during the year. It was terrible. Sports and vitamins helped. For the last 5 years I feel much better.And you have to believe in yourself, although it’s easy to say, but for many people it’s difficult to do. Attitude to life is largely hereditary.I have always envied some people who, even knowing that they would be put in jail for a long time, felt quite calm. Often this is stupidity but sometimes it's really natural courage.

@@SamsRussianAdventures Sam - I've contacted several other channels that I also watch, to get updates on their appeal to get AdSense back. I'll let you know if / when any other Russian RUclipsr gets monetization back. Don't give up on this! The Good News we found out is that RUclips didn't do this on their own & simply acted on false Complaints saying that specific RUclipsrs broke terms of service. Unfortunately this means that you have at least one or more "Hater"out there that wants to get you cancelled. Eli already knew that she had tons of haters, because she gets hate comments on every video she posts. However, I can't recall seeing any on your channel.
I've had a panic attack couple of times. First time was 3 years ago when I got divorced. Second time it happened a month ago when I realised Im finacially broke. Feeling is strange. For me it starts with hard breathing, then its difficult to breathe, hands start to shake, head is spinning and everything become blurry. Its something I dont wish to anyone.
The good thing about your panic attacks is that you have encountered them because of real situations. Both of these situations are difficult. I hope you are not having them now.

One of the most open and honest Q&As I've ever seen. Been bummed YT banned some of my favorite channels, one in particular is RTTT, an ex-pat from the US. It is a shame how the western media wants to brain wash people. Funny how you mention the movies always making Russians the bad guys. When I was a kid, I always rooted for them. Ever since I was little, I always liked everything Russia. Just the last 3 or 4 years, I decided to learn Russian. Leisurely, through Duolingo. I think I could carry on basic communication though. Когда у вас во всем теле приятная усталость, вам не до паничек, проверено. Побольше расслабляйтесь - в приложениях полно хорошей музыки и шума для сна, очень советую использовать. Можно попринимать травяные успокоительные, записаться к хорошему психологу - все в комплексе мне это помогло. Наверняка поможет и вам. Антидепрессанты плохой вариант.

I ordered what could be classed as a medical device, I think from Slovakia but due to the sanctions they couldn't get them so they got someone to post it to me directly from Moscow and it arrived but just took a little longer and I didn't need to pay any import taxes, etc here in the UK. I was in a hotel bar and there was a Russian guy there and an American, both on their own. I chatted with each of them and in the end we all sat down together drinking and had a good night of drinking. When I was in my 20's I met a beautiful Russian woman who was studying at the university. We arranged a date for the following night and I somehow managed to stand her up. I wish I hadn't and wonder what my life may have been had I not stood her up.
