      Sanctions never quite work. When the government sanctioned large displacement Japanese motorcycles to save Harleys, Japan started making smaller and better motorcycles. It didn’t help Harley and the company had to start making better bikes to remain competitive. Thumbs up 👍

    "Spar" stores do exist in the UK, but they look like a shabby caricature compared to this Russian version. In UK Spar will be fairly poorly stocked. Not very well maintained and prices often higher than normal for no reason at all, other than them being open later than other stores. The lavish selection of fresh fruit and veg. you never get in UK stores Spar or another brand. Even most expensive stores such as Wholefood Market in London are much smaller with very limited selection and range of products. And London is where people actually have money in the UK. The rest of the country apparently includes 9 out of 10 Europe's most poor and deprived regions (and this is official data).

    Funny thing ist that our European companies are opening more interesting, next level shops in „poor and bad“ Russia, while we don’t get anything of that (I live in Germany). We don’t have these fancy hypermarkets with huge restaurants/cafés, hundreds of warm made dishes to go over the counter or pickled foods which you can buy per gram. We have the same old Lidl and Aldi sh*t we already had 30 years ago. I just don’t get it. How all of that makes any sense?

    • @Takcep
      @Takcep 6 месяцев назад +18

      Hello. A grocery store like yours in Germany won't work for long in Russia, because we Russians are demanding of service and goods. Business adapts to our mentality and our "wants". That's why we have such a wide range of goods and services. I recently drove all over Norway by car, and in a small town any coffee shop is already at its best in terms of quality and service, unlike Norwegian ones. In general, everything depends only on you. With respect from Russia.

    Where I live in England Spar is no bigger than a local mini market. As far as I’m aware,there’s no more Shopping Centres being built as there’s a slow down in the economy. Some towns have less visits to shopping centres thus they are practically empty/closed shops. Some shops open, but intend to be high end, so their footfall are less, & intend to close within 2 years.I think some companies are being financially hit for withdrawal from Russian market. If you look at the average customer in Russia then companies who continue to trade in Russia if it’s direct or indirectly know they have made the right choice. Even Macron told French businesses to continue to trade within Russia.

    • @stu-9144
      @stu-9144 6 месяцев назад +2

      I’m from north east of England and I kind of agree. Our town centres definitely have a lot of shops closing down but I don’t agree it’s down to the economy. It’s mainly because the internet has took over and you will always find the best deals online. Most people in my area simply don’t go into town anymore. It’s easier, cheaper and our deliveries so fast it’s just stupid to waste your time going into town. Going into town shopping is very old fashioned now and it’s a thing of the past.

    There are western farmers moving to Russia as the earth is very good for growing vegetables etc. The Russian vegetables etc seem to be a lot larger than in UK. As far as I’m aware there’s a strict law on Russian farmers are not allowed to spray their land with any type of artificial spray etc. This is good for the land and consumers health. Recently within the last few years farmers from Canada and Australia are literally building their own homes on their recently bought land,which isn’t the norm in Russia. Russian farmers normally live in a village with their land outside the village, but I think more Russian farmers will follow suit.

    • @eugene_stets
      @eugene_stets 6 месяцев назад +7

      In most cases, it is impractical to raise buildings outside the settlement. It would makes it much harder and more expensive to connect to electricity, water, internet, to get emergency medical support, etc. Mobile phones may not work far from populated areas. Also it is harder to register the non-production buildings on agriculture designated land, private or not. The bureaucracy may get nasty here. It varies on the regions though, like in Siberian wild lands no one truly cares about independent ways you live because everything is decentralized in general, you are naturally left lone. Good for technocratic civilization haters, privacy zealots, and close to nature isolated communities. There are many native communities and locals in Siberia which live peaceful by traditional hunting and non-mechanized farming to this day. But yeah, in general, big communities village alike is a preferred way of settlement in Russia.

    Hey Russel, as a fellow Australian. Firstly, I enjoy your videos. But I have to say that im disgusted with our country. They talk about Russia being the most sanctioned country in the world. The cost of living in Australia at the moment is ridiculous. The prices that you show for everyday items compared to Australian prices, we are sanctioned, we are being destroyed by our government. The lies and the BS we are being told, makes me sad. We once had what was called the lucky country. Also, the price for 10 eggs is around 3 EURO for lesser quality. French stick bread here is about 1 EURO to 1,50 depending on where you buy it. Sanctions are only for propaganda because I have a Lukoil gas station about 5 minutes drive from my house. One more thing is that butcher stations are being faced out in the Netherlands and sliced cold cuts are not sliced in front of you, not even in the brand-name stores.

    For me, longer videos are better. I don't watch TV, but enjoy watching even 5+ hours of live streams where someone doesn't try to sell me something. Eggs 30 pack here at Costco are about A$12 and bread about A$8 for 2. Otherwise I believe other Australian Super Markets are even more expensive, except ALDI, but, I don't shop there, because even though they have multiple registers they will have only one open, so that staff at the register doesn't have free time. And yes, only Aldi staff are allowed to sit down while serving Costco, Woolworths,Coles and IGA must stand the whole day.

    The reason that beer costs less than soft drink in Russia vs what you'd see in other countries, eg, Australia is this.
    For most countries, tax or levy is imposed on alcoholic beverages depending on the alcohol concentrations.
    Usually there isn't such additional tax-levy for soft drink.
    In Russia, likely there isn't such tax-levy on alcoholic beverages.
    Indeed, perhaps there is some tax-levy on soft drink or they have imported items are much more popular so domestic soft drink brands put up prices as comparison vs imported brands.

      There are different products, with and without preservatives. You can always choose for yourself. In Russia, the trend is to reduce the amount of additives, people pay attention to this. Therefore, manufacturers try to add as little as possible, especially in the middle and high price segment.
