I'm really excited to release my new presets. I've put a ton of time and effort into these and I'm really stoked to put out quality presets for you that I personally use! Find them here: ClassicPorts.com
Thanks man. Yeah I shot something there back in the early winter before snow and all that grass was dead and golden. I was actually hoping it would have looked like that instead of green haha oh well.
the bokeh on the viltrox looks waaay more natural the sony's bokeh give off a spirally kinda look if you look closely..i'd definitely go for the viltrox
That lens is doing a great job. I don't have a Sony camera but this was nice to watch :) I'll check your presets soon enough. Thanks for delivering on yet another amazing portrait shoot!
These lenses are really similar! I think i'd give the edge to the Sony for just a touch more sharpness. I couldn't tell the difference in a blind test though. Excellent photos, btw!
Good video and nice shoot. I have this lens for my Sony A7ii and I am very impressed with it, especially for the price. I think both lenses produce a nice image side by side with a slight edge to the Viltrox for the quality of the background and sharpness of the subject. For my uses I am happy with my choice between the two.
The sony def has more contrast and sharpness... but it's not a world apart. It's crazy how good these 3rd party lenses are getting. I remember when they all looked like you were shooting through a bus window.
noticed that the sony 85/1.8 is slightly sharper but the viltrox has slightly better bokeh and less cats eye. pros and cons i guess. but both very excellent lenses.
Viltrox is much softer than Sony however it produces more round bokeh which imo is more pleasing to the eye. Softness might be something people are looking for as it smooths the skin a bit. Decent lens for sure. Awesome shots!
He’s the best sponsor a guy could ever ask for! The Shots were ok. It’s a lot to set up and shoot in 45mins when you are also the bts guy. My plan was to have a lot more golden hour sun ripping into the shots.
I assume it’s probably just as awesome for Fuji. I had no idea how good that lens is. I’m super impressed. You typically don’t get that kind of optics for $399
Thanks for the great video. I've been trying to find major reasons not to buy this lens for still shots, and not coming up with any. Great shots by the way!
The Viltrox lens in general is better when you test it on 10 different scenarios you’ll find 7 out of the 10 scenarios are better on the Viltrox wouldn’t change mine for anything Nice video bud
After 3 years, has Viltrox released firmware that helps in the focusing issues when you were on high continuous? Or the heavy focus breathing issues too?
Just bought the presets, they are downloading as I type this. I was just telling my buddy I wish Lee would put out some presets!! You must have my phone tapped or something..lol!!
Another good one! I've been waiting for your presets for ages! 😍 Bought! Any chance of getting your hand on the new viltrox lenses for Fuji 23 & 33 1.4?
I heard they are also good. I could ask if they have them to send. I’d be interested in either focal length tbh. I just don’t own a Fuji camera to shoot on. I’d have to rent one
Seems like the Viltrox gets a wider surface area in focus and the Sony 85mm has more of a pinpoint of focus. interesting depending on how you shoot your photos and what you are wanting.
One thing that stopped me from going Viltrox is warranty. If I ever have problems with the lens, do I send it back to China? There isn’t a retailer in Canada that takes care of the product.
Finally someone else saying that the Sony 85 1.8 has f**ng UGLY bokeh. It's the worst bokeh on a lens I have every used, it's distracting as hell. There is no smoothness and everything is cat eye shaped. (I have used it for outdoor portrait work for 1 year, in TONS of lighting situation... I am not just making it up) I have switched to the Canon 85 1.2 and I am using it at 1.6, and the bokeh is out of this world, but I guess the same goes for the GM 85 too... You can't see the bokeh difference in MOST lighting situation, I agree.... but when you can see it.... the 85 1.8 Sony is annoying as hell.
I love sony... but I want that round bokeh from Viltrox 85.. it's sad that Sony's 85 1.8 bokeh looks like a cat's eye. so I've decided to purchase the Viltrox. 'cause you can only get a round bokeh from Sony's 85 "1.4 GM" to get that round bokeh. :(( that price is gold.
Really dig your video formatting! I really appreciate the amount of work done with aligning and syncing all of the photos and videos for comparison. Any chance you can take another look at this lens if you still have it? Firmware V1.1.7 was released on September 30th according to Viltrox's firmware download page and the update note states, "Improved the focusing performance of this lens". I'm very curious to know how well it would do now in the continuous AF 11FPS burst photo shooting comparison with the new firmware. Oh, it'd be cool to know how much it's improved in video AF performance as well.
Great video. I don't shoot Sony but the info applies to all cameras. I had a good laugh too. I come for the information, I stay for the bloopers 🤣🤣🤣 awesome job my dude
I don't know of any 85mm prime lens that does suck! Every one that I ever used produced some excellent imagery whether I shot with a Canon lens on a Canon DSLR body, a Canon lens adapted to my Sony mirrorless cameras or a native e-mount Sony lens on my Sony mirrorless cameras (both full-frame and APSC). I purchased my Sony 85mm f/1.8 lens used from Adorama for $450 U.S. Dollars...
the fuji version mk2 just released 85mm 1.8 which makes it like a 135mm full frame equiv but it's a very good alternative to the 90mm f2 for half the price.
Can anyone tell me the difference between these two links? There appears to be two of the Sony 85mm f1.8 on Amazon, both from the Sony store. I have no idea what the difference is? One is £600 (currently reduced to £475) and the other is £450. The only difference I can see is that one says telephoto 85mm and the other says portrait 85mm. But the link in the description of this video takes you to the £450 ('telephoto') lens. Pls help! Links below: £600 lens: www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-SEL85F18-Mount-Frame-Prime/dp/B06VTFTZ17/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=sony+85mm+f1.8&qid=1623706182&sr=8-1 £450 lens: www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B06WLGFWGX?tag=zedpromedia-21&th=1&geniuslink=true
I'd love to see how it performs on a a6400 or any other sony apsc ... should give close to a 135mm f2.8 which is a classic portrait focal length..it would be a tight frame but I'm curious as to what the compression would look like
I'm really excited to release my new presets. I've put a ton of time and effort into these and I'm really stoked to put out quality presets for you that I personally use! Find them here: ClassicPorts.com
Dude, that location is pretty sick. Great video my dude!

Thank you for always putting out the clearest and best content ! You always have what I’m looking for 🙏

These lenses are really similar! I think i'd give the edge to the Sony for just a touch more sharpness. I couldn't tell the difference in a blind test though. Excellent photos, btw!
idk watching eyebrows the sony lens looks worse in many of the shots but the more reliable autofocus makes it even better

Great review. Great photos. And lovely model!!! One of the most beautiful models I've seen.

Yo!! Great sponsor! 😁 Shots were amazing. Great review.

Best review out ther in my opinion for these 2 lenses! Thanks bro
You need to get your hands on the Fuji version of that lens. Those 150g of difference with the MK1 is a big deal for Fuji Bodies
I assume it’s probably just as awesome for Fuji. I had no idea how good that lens is. I’m super impressed. You typically don’t get that kind of optics for $399
Yeah can't wait to try out the new presets!
I had the Mark 1 which was surprisingly the best budget portrait lens!
I didn't even know the vitrox 85mm existed but you saved me from buying the sony 85mm, thanks!
Thanks for the great video. I've been trying to find major reasons not to buy this lens for still shots, and not coming up with any. Great shots by the way!
damn that viltrox lens is sharp
Finally Presets 🔥🔥🔥🙌🏻🙌🏻👍👍👍
It's taken me a while to get over the idea that other people will now be able to get the same look as me. But here they are! classicports.com
Lee Zavitz I just bought and install those PRESETS thanks man 👍
Any LUTS? 😁
The Viltrox lens in general is better when you test it on 10 different scenarios you’ll find 7 out of the 10 scenarios are better on the Viltrox wouldn’t change mine for anything
Nice video bud
After 3 years, has Viltrox released firmware that helps in the focusing issues when you were on high continuous? Or the heavy focus breathing issues too?
85mm camera. Liked that one!
The Viltrox is so clean for that price
right!
Just bought the presets, they are downloading as I type this. I was just telling my buddy I wish Lee would put out some presets!! You must have my phone tapped or something..lol!!
That’s awesome! Enjoy
Besides weight and the hood, is there any difference between mk2 and mk1 version? Great video btw!
It seems the m2 focus faster and more accurate.
Thanks Lee, great work as always! Been looking at this recently for my a7Riii and a7iii. This one or the Samyang 85 f/1.4 for portraits?
Another good one! I've been waiting for your presets for ages! 😍 Bought! Any chance of getting your hand on the new viltrox lenses for Fuji 23 & 33 1.4?
I heard they are also good. I could ask if they have them to send. I’d be interested in either focal length tbh. I just don’t own a Fuji camera to shoot on. I’d have to rent one
@@LeeZavitz they're supposedly coming out with a 13mm f1.4 that'd be interesting.😋
The bokeh is rounder on the viltrox for sure.
Have you given up on FujiFilm, Lee?
The bokhe on the viltrox looks smoother and rounder compared with sony.
Seems like the Viltrox gets a wider surface area in focus and the Sony 85mm has more of a pinpoint of focus. interesting depending on how you shoot your photos and what you are wanting.
Do you correct for lens distortion when you post the photos?
I notice for all my portrait photos it makes the subject have a rounder face
One thing that stopped me from going Viltrox is warranty. If I ever have problems with the lens, do I send it back to China? There isn’t a retailer in Canada that takes care of the product.
I hear that. I guess that’s the trade off for how cheap it is.
I noticed that you use the color filters on the WB A0.5 G0.5 does that help getting like those fujicolors on Sony before the editing?
Finally someone else saying that the Sony 85 1.8 has f**ng UGLY bokeh. It's the worst bokeh on a lens I have every used, it's distracting as hell.

Have you ever tried the Batis 85? Wonder how the would perform Compared to the Viltrox?
I love sony... but I want that round bokeh from Viltrox 85.. it's sad that Sony's 85 1.8 bokeh looks like a cat's eye. so I've decided to purchase the Viltrox. 'cause you can only get a round bokeh from Sony's 85 "1.4 GM" to get that round bokeh. :(( that price is gold.
this lense is actually more expensive than the sony right now, at least in my country

Ricardo Sidney Vazquez Perez thanks for hanging out!
Ho Sir
This lens is good too for sony alpha a58? Thank you
Good sense of humor at the end. (Nice)
Great video! You should do a video explaining your preset pack!
Of course! That’s probably my next video.
Got a Sony a7 iii with kit lens for $600
Picking up a Sony 85mm 1.8 lens today for $359
Super excited to start taking photos
Your video af test is really great. Do it for all the lens reviews.

Great review! Which firmware is on your Viltrox?
Newest I think it’s 1.1.6
Hey! just curious what camera you used to record the BTS of this. Wondering if its the a6100?
Yep. It was an a6100
Lee Zavitz nice! Underrated camera
00:52 the look at the cam when you say it !!! why the personal attack QQ ?
Great shots. How do you record the camera screen tho?
With the Atomos Ninja V
awesome video. where was this shot???
test with the Tokina 85mm pleaseeee
Can you do the Fuji ver? :)
Is it worth to buy this in 2024
There hasn’t really been anything else that has come out other than maybe the sigma 85mm f1.4 that I could recommend if you have the $
@@LeeZavitzwill try sir ❤
Can you explain the setting
This is the one that can go as down to f1.6 with the firmware update?
I mean... it’s still f1.8 physically even if there was a firmware. I can’t tell if you are trolling or not
@@LeeZavitz my man the version 1 you can make it into a f1.6 lens look it up thants why i asked
Done deal! I’m getting this lens
No idea, why I'm watching this... I have Fuji system. Guess I like cameras reviews in general :D
They make this lens for Fuji so I can assume it would perform the same. But it will end up being closer to a 100mm lens.
the fuji version mk2 just released 85mm 1.8 which makes it like a 135mm full frame equiv but it's a very good alternative to the 90mm f2 for half the price.
Why F2? They are F1.8 lens.
I gave you a thumbs down twice followed by a thumbs up. Don't know if it's the lighting or color grading, but the video looks amazing!
Great,both lenses,but it's not Batis:))
almost clicked on thumbs down for not calling me when you were in my hood
85mm x 1.5 is around 130mm
Make it for Fuji plz
They do make it for Fuji! It comes in e mount and x mount

speaking of creamy and smooth...😂

HE'S WEARING STRAPS?!!!
I had to. I had 2 cameras. It’s the only time I will break the law and use a camera strap.
@@LeeZavitz yeah better make sure those straps doesnt flapping around in your shots. nice canon straps 👌🏻
i think viltrox is better
how many screens u need to shoot a picture?lol
That lens has Serious chromatic adorations. Otherwise it's a great deal.
Yeah depends on the scenario you are shooting in. But at its price point it’s pretty solid lens.
