I just did a portrait shoot with it and I was really surprised at how good it is. The price is nuts. I also noticed once it loses focus on af-c it takes a while to come back. Great review Omar!
I bought the first version when I bought my a7III a few months ago. The lens rocks. I wanted the Zeiss 85mm but I couldn’t swing it with getting a new laptop as well. IMO, the differences between the Viltrox and the Sony 85mm wasn’t worth $200. Plus, there’s a firmware upgrade out there that makes your Viltrox an F1.6. I haven’t gotten around to it.
I recently got these lens and I love what it can do :) As for the issues with refocusing the object coming towards the camera: I think Viltrox corrected with 1.1.7 or 1.1.8 software update because it's not the case anymore, even on my old A7II. Just to let you know they listen and react which we all should notice and appreciate in this world full of semi-tested and half-functional devices ;). Thanks for the great review and the channel I just subscribed to!
I bought the 33mm F1.4 for fuji recently and i am sending it back. I really like the build quality, its sharp enough, and autofocus is good. However the color and contrast is pretty poor, its a lot of work to fix it in post for me. this 85mm looks good though
I'm going picking up a used copy in the morning. Looking forward to tuning my favourite FM stations in for the drive home. That's all I want it for. Balls to bokeh
I recently purchased the Viltrox 85mm 1.8 from WBPhoto on Ebay - The focus on my A7r3 was Rubbish at best + The lens locked up within my first 20 shots. Combine this with some really poor firmware on their disorganised website this is by no means a good buy. Perhaps I was unlucky but I will be going to Sony / Sigma that way you can at least be sure that the focus system will work with Sony - The eye focus was more like a nose or mouth focus it was really inaccurate. Finally, Watch out buying this lens or any lenses on Ebay - WBPHOTO claims that the lens comes from the UK - When it came to returning the lens I had to spend £36 at my own expense to return it to China - The sony is double the price for a reason!
I have the Fujifilm x mount first version and I like it a lot. Especially when they updated the firmware. It woke it up. They might do that to the Sony version too. 💖
Am having version 1 with a73 and its doing great job, but am not doing it for real like you do :) but for the money its superb lens in my opinion, from the start i thought you will be comparing version 1 with version 2
Thanks Omar, I thought you did a review already of the Viltrox 85mm version 1 for Fuji. I have the version 1 for Fuji. I wanted to know what the differences were between version 1 and version 2 for Fuji. I wanted to know if version 2 was better or what changed between the two versions.
What Adbobe LR product have you used to improve Sony colours? I also have a Fuji XT 20.& XT2 and have heard LR not friendly to Fuji colours. Any thoughts?
How does the bokeh look when stopped down to f2.8 and further? I have seen couple of occasions where this version II lens seems to have misaligned aperure blades, which create an uglyish irregular bokeh shape when stopped down.
Omar, your videos are awesome! I too am not a fan of Sony colors. It has taken me a year to learn how to edit in Lightroom to get the colors I like. I didn’t see your link to the color checker video. I’m very interested in watching it.
Since the Sony 85mm f/1.8 is often available used at a very decent price (I got mine for $450 U.S. Dollars in minty condition from Adorama), I don't see any reason for choosing the Viltrox 85mm f/1.8 (or the Tokina ATX 85mm for that matter). Now, the Samyang/Rokinon 85mm f/1.4 in e-mount is another ball game and I might have some reasons to choose this lens over the f/1.8 of the Sony. However, I plan to keep my Sony f/1.8... BTW: I would always choose one of the auto focus 85mm lenses over a lens such as the Viltrox f/1.8 manual focus, even for portraits. I shoot my portraits in continuous auto focus with eye auto focus enables which will compensate for the tiny distance changes even when the subject and camera are not moving...
Out of nowhere my Sony a7III doesn't recognize the lens. Both are pretty much brand new and they did work for months. I even upgraded lens' software and made a factory reset to my camera, nothing... Does anyone have a soluton or experiences the same problem?
Dude, I am REALLY starting to enjoy your video's. AM/FM , Bokeh BOKEH BOKEH. Funny as hell. But good content as well! Now stop wasting my time and make a review for the 85mm on Fuji. ;-)
Thank you for the review. For few hundred more bucks i would just go with the sony for a more reliable autofocus. I wouldnt trust this viltrox for critical jobs
At 5:58 I thought for a second I was watching a Tony Northrup video, but then I realized the background wasn't blurry enough for that.
Toneh is not enough

Lee Zavitz Thanks Lee! Budget gear is catching up!!
Is it "budget"? Lower price, but not "budget quality ".
@@robertcudlipp3426 300 is budget imo
too much noice
@@ronycon3100 for autofocus? Agreed
I have the Sony 85mm , It's really sharp plus I use the button for eye detection and it's super handy.

I just received this for my Sony a7iii, It's really great. Fast focusing and sharp, plus much lighter than the MK I version.
What are the differences between the 1 and 2 besides the weight?
The version II for Fujifilm came out two days ago.

Does it work good on a7ii for video and photo , pls reply I wanted to get it
@@krishnakant9768 yes it does!
This is good to hear. Just bought one for £280.00. Looking forward to it arriving.
Thanks again Omar, very cool video. I had the previous version as well and there was an update that you could go to f1.6
Did you do that as well?
Not yet.

Now I want a lens with FM radio - damn you Omar! :0)
My desire is a camera with a built in espresso maker - for long days of shooting!
You need to update to latest firmware.
Samson Q2U? Good choice! Great mic for a reasonable price!

Great job! Is there a 2x teleconverter that can be used in this set? Without losing autofocus?
Just got mine today, it's fantastic.
only in Omar's channel 1:00 you can get a camera lens with built in AM - FM radio LOL ...
love you omar haha
My god i died when you said "built in am fm radio" hahahaha awesome review! Looking to pick up this lens in the near future! Keep it up!
Too bad you didn't.

So which one you recommend a7iii vs xt4
I purchased that lens for my A6400 about 4 months ago and I wasn’t pleased with the results. I sent it back
"Bling". Love it!
I know they are not ready for this topic but Sony or Fuji ???
What Adbobe LR product have you used to improve Sony colours? I also have a Fuji XT 20.& XT2 and have heard LR not friendly to Fuji colours. Any thoughts?
on your lens do you have the latest firmware? I heard the focusing is much better
hi Omar you said that you will put a link below regarding correcting colors though colorcheckr passport?
Hey Omar, have you actually installed the firmware update? It should have improved the AF performance.
Whoa, how about a tutorial on getting those colors?!
Hey omar, I was looking for the link you've mentioned on the editing of images.
You're right! Chelsea Northrup doppelganger for sure! Haha! Excellent review, thanks!
Comparison from 1.56 minute, Which side is Viltrox?
Omar, I mostly watch your videos because you are cool!
How does this compare with Rokinon 85mm 1.4 ??
Is it true that there's a firmware update on this lens making it a 1.6? BTW, your edits are awesome; love your tastes in editing for sure.
Steven malloch has a video on that
How does the bokeh look when stopped down to f2.8 and further? I have seen couple of occasions where this version II lens seems to have misaligned aperure blades, which create an uglyish irregular bokeh shape when stopped down.
I feel like I’m going to start a channel called, Pixel Peepers. You’re getting credit.
Hello.
In my xt3 didn't´t work well...I send it back.
After upgraded, no aperture and no focus a lot of time...
No.

Love the humour. Great video!
thanks for such amazing info!!!!!
The girl has the same eyes as Chelsea Northrup. I see resemblance too :)

Omar what happened to the 4k goodness
My brain: if the Sony version is in his hand, then why is the Fuji version on a Sony... 1:20 I hear Viltrox and Omar and I immediately think Fuji.
Please do it for fuji version :/
Uncanny resemblance with Chelsea Northrup @ 7:38 !!

Viltrox with the sleeper lenses
I own the a7iii and i really don’t care about the result in photography all i want is review in video test
I love this vid. Call me crazy but I love Sony colors 🥺
am radio, so convenient!
can i use this full frame lens on crop sensor camera?
yes
there's a firmware update for the viltrox to make it f1.6
Thank you for the review. For few hundred more bucks i would just go with the sony for a more reliable autofocus. I wouldnt trust this viltrox for critical jobs
So, what’s the difference between this one and version 1? Great video btw.
A few adjusments and it wights less than half a kilo 1 weights like 630grams and ii 400 and something, new parasol shape and other minor changes.
Cheers bruh!
Version 2 for fuji
Bling vs a radio. Hmmmm lolsss. Nice review brahhhh alohasss
Seems like not the best choice, but thanks for the review anyway
Nice. Born and Raised Is indeed a good album!!! Now I like you even more! 😜 thanks for all these videos, Omar. Keep safe.
I got the Sony 85mm 1.8
new for cheaper than this. Just wait for a discounted price!
You should buy glasses, but i will help you - sony looked sharper and better contrast at wide open.

Yes she does look like Chelsea Northrup
Haha second comment ohwell. Aways a pleasure. Here for humble review
do NOT get this lens. i have videos on my channel showing my experience with viltrox.
Yeah, it’s autofocus stinks
