I never thought you would get this far. I would just have pushed it over with an excavator and done a new build. But you proved everyone wrong and had the comittment to do a refurb!
Shout out to Axminster tools UK for supplying Dan with the equipment to help/speed the rebuilding along, everything changed when the tools arrived along with Nick & the others.
You have kept us all glued for months now. What you have all achieved is nothing short of a miracle and I'm sure that it's captured all our imaginations and our attention. I for one will be continuing to watch the ongoing saga. It's been amazing and will continue to be so. Take care all.
The Chateau’s progress has been awe inspiring but this channel is what it is because Dan is one of the funniest, most easygoing, most hardworking people I have ever encountered. You can’t fake this, he is the real deal. Thank you Dan.
Yes Kimberley, some of us have been here since the start. I remember thinking it would be cheaper and easier to bulldoze it and rebuild it from scratch. I remember thinking what a mess, there is no way to bring the place back. But I have watched. And now it is not only possible but going to happen, and Dan is our star in it all. I wonder if he understands that half a million people wait every evening for his latest report? He has enough on his plate, but now also has to satisfy us as well. But we love Dan. We will go to France and help if we must. I would.
A huge congratulations on the completion of the floors and I hope the roof goes according to plan. Its must be going to cost a fortune to complete. Will you give a rundown of your budget for the total cost of the restoration?
@rotanid you could have never commented below my post and I would have been so happy. Idc if they are getting paid or not. A Thank You from viewers is us showing appreciation for them being there and helping! They could have always said no. But they didn't.
Dan, I have followed your escapades from the start and now as I have just turned 90yrs old I would like to live long enough to see the finished product. No pressure on you now!!!!
You didnt give yourself enough credit.... you started alone, one shovel, one wheelbarrow with a flat tire. Your first lifting of bricks to help set the first hallway floor, you pulled them up in a plastic shopping bag... you are amazing. You are the man, dan !
And we are so grateful you took that risk and share the journey with us Dan. What a great team you have to support you there. Congratulations Team Chaumont!!
I have never missed an episode but watching this little recap illustrates just how epic the undertaking is. Well done Dan living your dream. What an inspiration you are to your sons!

I think the reality is that it has gotten easier but it’s been far from easy. You deserve so much recognition for what you’ve accomplished. Plus there were scores of episodes when it was just you, your two dogs and your two hands. Bravo.
Agree, but I think had Dan ploughed on alone without help from the other guys, I think he would have burnt out by now or been seriously injured. Sharing his dream with the others has inspired all of them to want to give their all to help him complete this chateau restoration and they are now friends for life. Truly inspiring, all of them.

I have bought my dream 3,5 years ago. A neglected 550 m2 France chateau.. Every day working on bathrooms, bedrooms and garden. Sometimes I'm tired when I wake up. And my place has floors, a staircase, water, electricity and a roof. What you are doing is amazing, I hope the fire will burn in you for a long time.
I've been accused of trying to save some pretty run-down structures-I live in one, an old barn-but one look at the way the chateau was when I started watching, I just thought, "naw, bulldoze it." The whole place was an accident waiting to happen, I was sure I was going to witness the first suicide by chateau. What you've accomplished is nothing short of amazing. You're one of those guys who just somehow, magically, knows how to do stuff. I think a person is born with that. Thanks for a wild and fun ride!
Yikes rewatching these scenes scares the life out of me all over again 😮😊 what an achievement Dan and Team. You've all worked miracles to get this far, and I'm quite sure the rest will be just as good, if not better. At this rate you'll be furniture and fittings shopping by Easter. Thank you for sharing your journey with the world, Dan. It's such a pleasure to support you. ❤🎉❤🎉❤
I know that I've mentioned on this channel many times that I am in awe of what you are doing and that I would never be able to learn the skills to do anything of this nature . . . . . . . . . BUT, I decided to challenge myself in just the smallest way possible as to not be overwhelmed. I've always wanted an outdoor bar in the backyard, so I went online, found PDF instructions on how to build one that I liked, purchased the wood and tools and saws necessary, and I actually built it!!! The instructions said it would take two days, but it actually took me three. But after staining and varnishing it, I've accessorized it in the Tiki style, and now I'm turning my outdoor gazebo into a mini Tiki bar. And I have you Dan, to thank for inspiring me to take a chance and try my hand, even in this small insignificant way. THANK YOU!!!!!
You made this look too easy….the trees…the bathtub…water containers…radiators…puppies and then puppies…and you being a dad to the boys. Cannot wait to see your next episode and the one after that and the next and so on. We all are sitting on the edge of our seats…waiting….❤️
Dan-it's a pleasure to watch you take on this project. And at the same time, you serve as a role model to those of us who can't figure out a way to actually follow our dreams/passion. Thanks for being such an inspiration to us all on "how to make a life worth living!"
For an 82;year old to begin converting a basement closet to an up flush shower .. thanks for keeping me fixed on watching what can be done if you have a dream.
What a journey so far Dan! You said you were going to bring it back and you're doing it. Thank you for including all of us. It's a honour to watch history come back to life. Your team Nick, "Orange pants" Calvin and Brian.....wow! I can't wait to see more.
Glad to be here from days when this was only a dream. A great roll model for your boys' excellent friendships 👏 😊 Dan, Nic, Cameron, Calvin, Brian and all the people in the background aiding support, we celebrate you all 😊

Dan, I have followed you since your RUclips debut and loved every minute of it. From the gardens of LaLande to owner of your own chateau is an amazing achievement. Thanks for taking us along on your journey. 🙏❤️
Speechless! Absolutely magnificent achievement! Thanks YT for this random 'recommended'. Subbed. From an Aussie who did 12 renos in London, in the 80s and 90s, I thoroughly commend the courage, stamina, dedication, endurance, innovation, and bottle of this man and his project! Excessively well done Sir!
Not only is this an amazing dream which has captured the hearts of all of us who faithfully watch the progress and follow the improvements each and every day, it is a testament to what the human heart and mind can do when that dream is followed. I am so impressed by the diligence which the entire crew puts forth, and the attention to detail, safety, and accuracy of each segment. To think how you all have carefully worked each day on what would be considered by most to not only be near impossible for such a small crew, but highly dangerous, as well. I pray each week that you all will fulfill your deeds with care, and that no one will ever be injured in this project. And I thank you for including all of us in your gigantic dream!!!
After watching this video today just confirms why you have over 500K subscribers Dan, as not only is the rebuilding of the chateau probably everybody's dream but would never do it, your camera work and editing skills are fantastic. Thanks a million and I look forward to seeing the roof being reconstructed... hope that turret is on the list?
I prayed you would get some wonderful people to help you, I’m thankful you have each other to help and encourage one another. The best is yet to come, you are stronger together, weight Belts needed, bundle up, and have fun 🕊️
Dan, not sure if you meant to do this, but your opening intro kind of made this 56 year old man shed a couple of tears! We are all with you brother and can't wait to see you restore this French dame to her former glory!!
Dan, you and the gang have a guardian angel looking after you! So many times I have held my breath watching you do something very precarious! Such an accomplishment!
You know , Dan, your dream is beautiful, but most of all the château reveals you: the incredible heartwarming, dedicated, simple, and amazing person you are. I watch every episode because of what you bring us , not only on the hard work, you bring vision, hope, hard work transcended into something amazing and entertaining, you gives us the exemple of what can be achieved by positivity. Thank you 🙏 😊
As a journeyman framer and commercial Mason, I've had my doubts...couldn't even watch sometimes, but you're getting it done and it's been amazing. Stay safe, stay focused, it's quite a project!
Absolutely amazed at how much you have done, without a crane. The people who make the lifter and winch should see how much you have done. There is a lot left to do, but you are making great progress.
This renovation has to be the happiest and most addictive out there. Wonderful work, great people, and the magic of a place like Chaumont with its touching history. I keep imagining the 1930s and 40s swank vehicles coming up that driveway…
What an incredible journey back in time. You did us all a wonderful favour showing us what it took to get the structure fully secured. The clips you hadn’t included before were breath taking, I didn’t want it to end, but it’s not over which makes watching your dream become a reality so worth each minute you put up for our enjoyment. Thank you so much Dan, it’s been a joy watching all of the journey you’ve embarked on, not really so many years ago. This Chateau will be the crowning achievement of all time, you and all of your mates not wasting a single moment to fulfil the dream. ❤
The great thing about this restoration is you are basically starting with a (clean) slate....... you are not trying to fix and restore rooms that are build with hundreds of years old woodwork and moulding . You can recreate rooms - but it will be all fresh and new..... It hard to believe how far and fast you have come on this project! Congratulations 🎉🥂🇨🇦
It’s been a risk yes but the pay off in milestones has been golden. This is something that you will have with you for the rest of your days and that’s only afforded to those who try. I never stop thinking about the discovery of the beautiful tile under all that rubble and can’t wait until you are laying down again. You’re richer for the journey and we are as well because you shared it Dan. Thanks for that.
We've been following your journey ever since you were introduced as 'Dan - the Gardener' - you are a mighty warrior and a hero for rescuing this building. WELL DONE 👏
There seem to be quite a number of chateau restoration projects in France by British people. All very interesting and worthwhile, but yours outstrips them all, particularly with its connection with an iconic French lady, Coco Chanel. You are restoring a piece of French history. Fantastic.
Watching this episode was like reviewing the hours I spent here watching these projects progress. What a fantastic journey. Super excited to see these ceilings come into being.
Good morning team ❤ You had us hooked from the beginning … your dream became our dream for you … You have had us laughing, crying ,loving and having heart attacks … what a journey … I would not want to be anywhere else but glued to a sofa with our new round the world family watching Escape to rural France We love you Dan ❤
One thing that stands out here apart from your absolutely amazing work on the château with the guys helping you is that the equipment you’ve been able to buy has enormously helped you to achieve your dream. You’re not afraid to say you don’t know something or how to do something but you always know you can learn and you have. Well done, it is such a pleasure to watch the Château taking form again.
Dan , never doubt it , you are living the dream. I watch you daily and it's clear that you chose this road to travel because it "was" your dream. So dream on ... live this dream of yours and share in the joys, the sorrows , the reward of an amazing job done well , and tell the tale to your sons as you grow older. The dream is real.. Never doubt it. Dream on....😉
Splendid look back and well worth the time it took. "It's no longer a ruin." Congratulations Mr. Dan. And Big Thank You for rescuing the old beauty, and making it possible for all uf us to watch. I had never seen just how dangerous those old steels were to you. Now I'm thinking of the thousands upon thousands of prayers for your safety that must have gone up over the past 2 years and pausing to Thank God you're still with us. Now it's on to the next roof, then the huge roof, then the impossible turret roof. So you stay safe up there. And we'll keep praying.

Watching the video made me ask what the fundamental interest is in following the progress - it's Dan. A humble, down to earth and funny person trying their best. We invest in their success. I'm so very happy for you Dan, well done. Your tenacity inspires me ❤
Dan, I enjoyed watching every minute of every video, building one floor at a time; to see your joy when a floor was done. Congratulations Dan! Well done!😊
There are so many layers to this: awe at what you and your team of wonderful people have acomplished, thankful that you made it through without going up in smoke or a having a bad fall (Thank you, Nick!) inspired by how you have kept faith with your dream and made it real, and deeply impressed with your video editing skills. That's the short list and also the puppies. Bravo, Dan. Well done!

The memories... Wow!!! Dan, what you have achieved from day one till now is amazing. You have kept me glued to this project along with many others. It is not just the Chateau that brings us all back, it is you Dan, with your smiles, personality and great Humor. Your friendship is strong and bonding with the guys, truly a blessing to have such a great relationship with them and also with your boys. The dogs are cute and nice to see. Thank you for opening this channel up to so many, sharing your life, and letting us all follow along on the great journey with you.
You have achieved not only a remarkable transformation of this old ruin but also making this a exciting channel on RUclips that I love to watch every ”tomorrow”. Thanks Dan and the rest of the crew ❤
It's been so amazing to share this journey vicariously with you. The progress has been inspiring and we all can't wait to see that roof go on! Chapeau to you and Team Dan!
Tears of pride!! A thankless job well done, so far! I'm so happy for you, that you've come this far, and I'm happy to say that I've been along for the ride from your early days at Steph's place. A huge thanks to all who have helped along the way! Dan, you truly are "THE MAN"!
I can say for many people here we have prayed. But you're safety. And for your work. And we are so proud of you and your friends. Bryan and Nick. I loved a little jokes. So funny. Great buddies. You are fortunate.
Dan. The incredible part had to be the start with very limited resources so that the nonexistent revenue initially had to be built up from support from subscribers, etc. What a risk! Amazing!
Great encapsulation documenting the unfolding of time and the countless hours of work put into this daunting project. The day will come, Dan, when you can sit back knowing you (and your team!) not only restored this wonderful gem but returned the chateau's soul to her.
If you ever had the misfortune to use one of those Genie lifts, the 1st thing you would do is give it back to the hire company, ASAP !! Dangerous things the way it was being used in these videos (a clean, level surface is a must!) But then, almost every practice in the build has been suspect. Had it been in the UK, the site would most certainly have been shut down.
He should contact the manufacturer and sell its eventual retirement as a marketing opportunity. Let’s face it. If it’s there at the end, that brand deserves the quality brand recognition. I don’t know where Dan’s money is coming from, though I’m sure it wouldn’t go astray.
Dan there is a French book written by an author Alain fournier he didn’t survive the first wold war so despite his promise, he didn’t get much published this was his best work it’s called ,The lost domain it’s a beautifully evocative tale set around 1890 in which a young man a teacher gets to work in a country school which a deserted ruined chateau plays a very important part of what happens to him.
Dan, it has been an adventure for those of us watching you and your friends rebuild the Chateau. I can hardly wait for the new episode to be posted and to watch this once abandoned relic actually come to life. We cheer you on and hope for it to become the dream that you have envisioned. It is coming and we love every moment of seeing it become a reality.
Quite possibly the coolest continuation series on RUclips right now. I cannot wait until everything is dried in and they start the internal work. It'll be easier and may not show the vast progress, but it'll be more meaningful and fun for the team. At lest that's my opinion. Can't wait.

Thank you 🙏 😊
Thnx. Dan. I never missed one episode. It’s my go to video every evening for the last year. Keep it up, keep it coming. ❤
As a journeyman framer and commercial Mason, I've had my doubts...couldn't even watch sometimes, but you're getting it done and it's been amazing. Stay safe, stay focused, it's quite a project!
Can't tell you how much I look forward to seeing Dan and the guys working to help this building rise phoenix like from the ashes! Bravo!
Absolutely amazed at how much you have done, without a crane. The people who make the lifter and winch should see how much you have done. There is a lot left to do, but you are making great progress.
He should put all these videos of his into a documentary and sell it to BBC.
Can you imagine Dan's boys growing up in this Chateau. It will be a childhood filled with so much joy!
I believe it's better than dealing with old woodwork eaten by termites or old heating, electrical system.
It's amazing what a person can do when they have a dream and the real desire to accomplish it. Dan, you have certainly shown us that you have both.
Fantastic.
Thanks, Dan, for letting us be with you through this journey.
Watching this episode was like reviewing the hours I spent here watching these projects progress. What a fantastic journey.
Super excited to see these ceilings come into being.
Well done, Dan. Witnessing your toil is my moment of rest each day. Privileged to be along for the ride.
Good morning team ❤
You had us hooked from the beginning … your dream became our dream for you …
You have had us laughing, crying ,loving and having heart attacks … what a journey …
I would not want to be anywhere else but glued to a sofa with our new round the world family watching Escape to rural France
We love you Dan ❤
Dream on....😉
This brought me close to tears Dan. There is no doubt you had Aisling Aisling and more AISLING. VISION IN ABUNDANCE. thank you
One of the best renovation projects online, if not the best....
Onward and upward what an incredible journey! Thank you for allowing us to come along.

Bravo, Dan. Well done!
This is amazing. Congratulations Dan! You have worked so hard. I still remember you going up and down ladders and scaffolding with heavy stuff. You surrounded yourself with a great team and now your dream is coming true. 🎊🍾
Your dream has made many of us very active followers. We love you like our child and want the best for you! You have earned it with all your hard work and great helpers .
No, you don't sound crazy, you have a dream and want to make it reality.
That's beautiful.
It’s an amazing journey, Dan. Thanks for letting us come along.
I had forgotten how many times i watched Dan through my fingers, praying nothing awful would happen. Such an amazing achievement guys😊
"You're on fire!" applies not only to the incident around 13:20 but to everything you've worked on. Amazing job.
Your a hero Dan ! Your rescuing a piece of architecture and restoring it to it's formal glory the best you can !
You are a real heroe, Dan! You and all the people that came to your help. You can be very proud of what you have done. Onwards and upwards!
I can say for many people here we have prayed. But you're safety. And for your work. And we are so proud of you and your friends. Bryan and Nick. I loved a little jokes. So funny. Great buddies. You are fortunate.
Your dream is coming true!!!! Watched by thousands of spectators. All entranced and willing you on. 🤩
Simply AMAZING and what a great bunch of guys that are helping your dream come true, and we have front row seats to see it happen. THANK YOU!
Dan. The incredible part had to be the start with very limited resources so that the nonexistent revenue initially had to be built up from support from subscribers, etc. What a risk! Amazing!
Great encapsulation documenting the unfolding of time and the countless hours of work put into this daunting project. The day will come, Dan, when you
can sit back knowing you (and your team!) not only restored this wonderful gem but returned the chateau's soul to her.
I think….that hand crank lifter deserves its own pedestal and to be displayed like a statue of of a famous leader for years to come 😂
I did say that or something in that line … that machine has done so much in the majority of the videos I’ve seen it 😅
@@Horus070 It's a Genie Lift. No, it would not be displayed after the project like a statue. It would be repurposed on another job.
If you ever had the misfortune to use one of those Genie lifts, the 1st thing you would do is give it back to the hire company, ASAP !!
Dangerous things the way it was being used in these videos (a clean, level surface is a must!)
But then, almost every practice in the build has been suspect.
Had it been in the UK, the site would most certainly have been shut down.
@@WeeShoeyDugless Do you feel better now?
Great reference ! By now and even though Dan is very humble about it, it is quite obvious he could read it in French : Le Grand Meaulnes.
Can't wait.
I believe the sincerity and all people involved makes this so very special. Go team chateau de Chaumont.
It is amazing what you have accomplished and well worth celebrating! We have enjoyed watching you reach this goal and cannot wait to see what the future holds! Way to go, Dan and friends!
The ingenuity, the perseverance, the endurance and all the hard work! Just amazing!👏👏
Miss seeing Cameron. Hope he’s ok. Your work is incredible.
Also a big thank you to Nick,Brian, and Calvin great team🥰
and the cutie worzel gummage (i cannot remember his name - a really sweet guy who lots of women seem to like too lo)
@@EthanLomascameron?
@@EthanLomasCameron. He was a workhorse as well. Loved watching him with Nick and Dan in the earlier months.

I’ve been wondering where is Cameron, and what’s up with him?
And why he hasn’t been around.
In one video he was the walking Christmas tree man.
Amazing image.
@@tammiewilson5185 yes, Cameron. Thanks. Nice guy and a real worker too :)
Congratulations! What an incredible journey. Thank you for inviting us along!
Dan, I've been with you every step of the way it's has been very rewarding.
You are a remarkable man. The Château is just beautiful. It was really awesome to see the transformation in such a short period of time. Thank you so much for sharing.
On top of all your amazing construction accomplishments, you are a talented storyteller and videographer! Congratulations ❤
Thank you Nick for this update off this amazing story off this beautiful chateau.
I now it wil succeed and wish you all good luck with this massive project.
