“I’m the loser in the game you didn’t know you were playing” can be taken super literally, cause the “game” was for Spinel to stand still in the garden, but then she moved so that she could come to earth therefore loosing the game. And as Steven doesn’t have Rose/Pink’s memories, he didn’t know about the game that they were playing.

Something I want to point out is: there are a lot of butterflies in the film. Why? Because butterflies represent change, which is a major theme.
They are mostly viewed negatively in the show

@@malak-ij4lf no they represent the things that come along that change their perspective for a time. that change can be bad or good, but it's still a change that they have to think about before they can move on from it or with it.
@@peperoni9757 they represent change in general, some change can be good and some change can be bad. you'll see butterflies appear when good changes happen in the show as well. people just usually think of change as a negative thing. but the end of the movie itself accepts that change is changing, and lots of time for the better as well, steven being the whole point of that.

That wouldn't have worked though. In his message to the universe (which Spinel claims to have heard "over and over again"), Steven states that he has a place he belongs, and it's on earth. Saying that he isn't actually Steven would not have worked either because of this.

During the gems' bits in the song, it honestly seemed like they were giving hints of the "puzzle pieces" for later. Pearl's part is about how she used to serve Pink Diamond, and only came into her own after Rose was gone, to reform when her new 'owner' was no longer present. Garnet's was about how she formed, the experience she is, and how she "never would have believed it" (which could be seen as hinting at the 'truth' aspect). Amethyst's is about how she didn't have a family, but now she does, reforming when she gets that connection to Steven. Also, Steven's part is about how he has changed since he was younger.

I feel like that's probably really hard for writers to like talk about when it comes to young protagonists because the statistics show that yeah most boys at that age do it, but for writers do they mention it or do they pretend like their protagonist is an innocent little flower? Like, that's one thing I would probably find really difficult to address as a writer because it's just so awkward

First time Pearl was booted was by her original owner
The second time was when Pearl was given to Pink
The third is when Spinel proofed her

There's a very subtle aspect to the "bass" joke between Greg and Pearl; Greg continues the joke when he says that Pearl is the "boss." "Bass" (the instrument) and "boss" have diphthong vowels, whereas "bass" (the fish) uses a monophthong vowel. If Pearl was to pronounce "boss" as a monophthong, it would be either "bahss" (like an exaggerated Bostonian accent) or "bus." I don't know if the full linguistic aspect of the joke was intended, but certainly "boss" was continuing the joke.

Did anyone notice that the pearls of the diamonds have the same gem placement and coloring. And I think that our Pearl was White Diamond’s pearl, but after Pink hurting Volleyball they switched Pearls because it was a bad look for Pink. So that’s what I think. 🧐🤓

I love how in the “Come live with us in the palace [reprise]” the diamonds all reach out their hands the same order as when they corrupted the earth, but instead of their hands being up like pushing away, their hands our open and accepting.

This whole series is literally the product of Pink's whole existence! 😂 Everything that's ever happened or going to happen is literally HER fault, it's actually pretty insane when you think about it.
@@toastwings9358 one can add to that, because pink wasn't /just/ a terrible person. She was also a victim of her upbringing, wasn't she? Unlike the other diamonds, who are considered good because they had Steven to show them how TERRIBLE they was being towards offcolors *and the entire universe* ... Pink had no one. She tested the system like the child she was, thought of others in the way she was taught to, and then recognized what was wrong and then stood up for what was right. She was incredible to do all that while everyone she liked looked to her blindly for leadership! Yet, she still did very bad things. We can't dismiss that. While she wasn't meaningfully cruel, she hurt people. I can also add that most of the people who were hurt, they had blind feelings towards her. They put her on a pedestal. Did Spiniel ever think that Pink could want space? No, she didn't think about pink as a person at all, she just thought as she was born to. Would Pearl be as hurt if she acknowledged that Rose wasn't *hers*, which Rose never claimed to be? No, Pearl just clung to this idea of Rose. To an... Alarmingly unhealthy degree. If pink isn't given sympathy for her actions, then Pearl did that to herself (but we should give both sympathy while acknowledging the fault of it). Everyone just clung to this idea of Pink/Rose so wholeheartedly to the point that week she didn't live up to it, they were crushed, and that's cruel to do to anyone, and it's unfair to put someone in that position and then blame them. I think Steven Universe is a story That's a product of mistakes. It's messy, most of the early intentions didn't go as planned and most of the good intentions hurt someone, there were harmful coping mechanisms, ect. I think it's good to see that good people aren't infallible, and on that coin it feels wrong to completely demonize any of the characters.

Orrrr....did Rose reboot Pearl herself to meet her new freedom fighter ideals after originally giving her default settings?? If the theory about Pink not caring much for Spinel as a replacement for Pink Pearl is true, it'd make sense that they gave her our Pearl & she didn't put much thought into the settings cuz she just wanted her friend. That would explain why she still had her default outfit on back when Pink started getting bored with her colony rather than a personalized outfit like the other Pearls.
