    CB Radios are an absolute must. I drove in a leased operation hauling for Mayflower from 1971 through 1991. Sometimes though the CB fails. Winter 1978 - 1979, coming out of Seattle and heading for Fargo, ND I encountered a blizzard, complete with heavy winds and 70 below zero with the wind-chill. I ended up with gelled fuel filters and fuel lines and obviously, the engine quit running. Needless to say, I had to pull off on the shoulder. I hollered on the CB for help for a half hour or more while much truck traffic passed me by. Not a single come back asking if I was okay or needed help. In the bunk, I went into my down sleeping back along with my Doberman and we survived until about 5 hours later when a North Dakota State Trooper stopped and banged on my door. Within a half-hour, I was being towed into Fargo from only 30 miles west of Fargo to get my truck running again. So yea, CB Radios do help, but only if those with CB Radios respond.

      I started driving in 1990 and CB's were a great way to communicate, I noticed as time moved forward CB's were less and less used by the otr driver. It got to the point in the 2000's that I didn't turn on the radio anymore.

I could carry it further. How about: "Anything specific you were hoping I would respond with?" OR, your message reached me at about 2:53 AM here in the Czech Republic. I would say unless you were more specific with what you expect from me as a message then I don't know how else to continue. I could ask you to tell me about you, that would be a good start.
      I should say I am in between sleeps here. I mean my first sleep was from 24:00 (midnight in your world) until old man syndrome woke me at 2:30 at which time I fired up my PC to check email and exchange rates and now I am ready for my second sleep, so you won't hear from me again until I wake the second time.

    It's a lifestyle not a job. Forget about having a family being married with the little house with the white picket fence. Because usually you're always gone. Forget about all the toys too. If you're sitting in that truck that is your toy. you'll spend hours and hours in weeks in months in that truck. I did it for 36 years but I started back in the '70s.

      @Roger Mckinney lol I mean, I know but you don’t have an oven. Counter top space. You know. If we break it all down at the end of the day a trucker will end the argument with “well I earn X”. And that’s cool. Trust me. Just different strokes. I also feel like it’s a defense mechanism for a lot of truckers to justify the lifestyle. No way can the cab of a truck compare to a home man. Again, different strokes and God bless you guys.

    • @sirgalalot88
      @sirgalalot88 3 года назад +6

      @Roger Mckinney the biggest sleeper in the world is the size of my bathroom. Facts. No need for insults man, The extreme sedentary lifestyle isn’t doing most truckers any favors too. It’s not something to be glorified or encouraged living in a truck for decades. It’s done for the money, a lil of the freedom and not much else. And that works for some and not for others like me. Good on you though man. It is a great career in ways.

    I could never ever live inside my truck full time I can’t even stand being inside my truck for 2 days. Why would someone want to live inside their truck is beyond me and I’ve been trucking for over 17 years now I just can’t find any good enough reason to want too. He ain't lying about those cruise control drivers. They will run up on the truck in front of them instead of gauging their speed and instead of knocking off their cruise control, They will cut you off and see you coming up the middle! Man that burns my ass! It's some of the most inconsiderate sh-t you can do to another driver! Plus they don't have break away speed so now you gotta wait until he gets pass the other truck which can take forever because now he's not drafting behind the trailer and is pushing through the wind now and he may never pass the slow truck. But wait, now the slow truck will ride side by side instead of cutting of his cruise to let the guy get back in the right lane but now every body is stacking up like NASCAR until someone gets pissed (I've done it) and grab the hammer lane (because I have a 1996 W900L 3406e) and go around these a**holes at the risk of a high dollar ticket and burning up my fuel! Sorry I got long winded but Gee Wiz🤬.

    I understand the "no shitter" part. Who wants to carry around their piss and shit with them, if theres no where to dump?
    But why no shower?
    I did hot shot hauling for a while. 16ft cab and chassis, 2001 F350. I had a 5 foot truck camper, pushed against the cab as a "Sleeper" and still had my flatbed for the fifth wheel.
    Man, I never used my own toilet unless i HAD to. But I used my shower almost daily (If i had enough water).
    But that was mostly, as a hot shot, I didn't use truckers showers since I wasn't "actually a trucker" So having my own was a big luxury, and I just liked being able to shower after dropping off loads. Usually get in the truck for bed, and Im covered in grease/soot/ dirt you name it.
    -The life of a prissy man with a hot shot truck lmao, I just can't imagine having a sleeper *that* big, and saying no to the shower add in
