That was the biggest deal deal breaker for me not upgrading to this phone. Not having an SD card slot. Hopefully they add it again in the future since that was one of the biggest ways they differentiate themselves from Apple and their iPhone. Also I think the "not having enough room" thing for me is BS. I'm Samsung could of found a way if they really wanted to.
I totally agree and understand, but personally, I don't see a reason the average consumer will need more than 128 or 256 with an increasing user base using cloud storage for the important pictures and videos. Of course, there's drawbacks, but I think we're at the point where built in storage is enough for most, at least for now.
This is going to be the first Samsung phone where I am going to be interested in seeing the difference between qualcomm and exynos processors. Supposed the Xclipse GPU is based on AMD's RDNA architecture so 3rd party testing will be interesting to see where its performance as a GPU sits
Samsung have said there's a software update coming to further improve the new Exynos hardware too. I'm assuming a GPU driver update, which could bring it to complete parity or even give it a leg up over the Adreno. As it is already neck and neck.
Had my S22-ultra 512 for a couple of months and it is a perfect device for this ol timer. Cannot fault any part of it with 512 Gb storage . Good review too Linus :)
Glad to see that the Note is back in spirit, but no expandability and no headphone jack takes away from what could be the perfect successor to my Note 9.
I sucked up the lack of headphone jack with the Note20 Ultra, but I don't think I'll be so easily convinced to go without SD cards..... Also, interesting to see how we went from Note is a phone that releases yearly to Note is a phone line up that to get the real experience you have to get the highest tier, priciest one to "well skip this concept entirely, everyone please buy our unnecessarily large and mechanically wearing devices pleas" to "oh shit, ya'll not buying it, okay let's u-turn on that" to "here's the Note, except no, we're too proud to continue calling it that. Also you now HAVE to buy at the top tier price to get any sort of Note experience. Have fun"... The smell of upsell and smoke screening is pretty thick.... :/
@@summondominion Just because you don't use it, doesn't mean nobody uses it. Many people have uses for it, like connecting a wired mic, playing music in older cars, connecting the phone to dj stations, or any media output that doesn't have bluetooth. If they'd at least include a dongle, ok. But we don't even get that on an ultra premium smartphone. They only cut costs while steadily increasing prices. And attacking those who criticise these practices will only make this more rampant I'm afraid.

@Madness Reborn just an old phone ull definitely feel the difference with the new ones. 120hz, faster charge, multitasking, hours of gaming wothout overheating, resolution etc... that one came out in 2017 5 years old
After watching a bunch of videos on the ultra (yes, I've pre-ordered), I'm starting to think that Samsung just used a design they already had for a possible S21 Note, but jumped the last version for the reasons we already know (didn't make sense at the time). And NOW, they know that people won't stand for the detached Spen, so they brought it back under the same design they had stashed in a dust drawer somewhere and slaped the Ultra name. Hehehe
SO... I bought a POOP ton of S-pens in my day, literally probably have 50 floating around here somewhere as we speak. ANYWAYS... the different color S Pens from the Note 9 and on, had a really cool little easter egg built in. When using the screen off note or whatever they were calling it; you pull out a Red S-Pen the ink would be red. Pull out a Blue S-Pen the ink would be Blue. So on and so forth. Black though would have white ink. Kind of neat little easter egg that I bet not a lot of people knew about. Obviously the S-Pen had to be one of those that you had to charge to use their Air Gesture gimmicks that never worked well on any of the devices I've tried them on, including the current Tab S7 Plus I use to this day.

@Andy Foster Still not that impressed with the camera. Because of the 5 lenses you need to make sure you're on the right mode (3:4 108mp, 3:4, 1:1, or 9:16) for what you're shooting or you can get a bad picture. S6, one camera, beautiful every time.
I've fast charged my S9 for 3 years, coming on 4. I know it isn't as fast as recents now. Yes, the battery is degrading now and doesn't run for even half a day haha but it was probably time I had a new phone or battery by now anyway. The screen has also burnt in quite badly, which I didn't think would happen on recent Samsung displays as my old S1 had it as bad as this.

Foldables are still not mature enough for most users, especially given how expensive the displays are to repair/replace relative to their durability. I would prefer the S22 Ultra over any of the Samsung foldables (already Pre-Ordered the Ultra).
@@NGEvangeliman Display is still pretty fragile even if Samsung claimed it is more durable. Just a quick Google search shows quite a number of complaints about their Z series phones already having cracks under normal use despite being new or in use for only a few weeks.
I've owned both generations of the Z Flip. From two years dropping them on all sorts of hard things, I can confidently say that the folding mechanism makes a Z Flip 3 more durable than any slab flagship in the world. I also have an S21 Ultra. That one has a nasty hairline crack across the expensive front display. My even older Note 9 looks pretty much like Linus' old Note 9, full of cracks everywhere. The folding mechanism absorbs a lot of the worst impact, while it perfectly protects the display when you don't use the phone.
@@amirali.m7621 If you factor in Samsung's quite reasonable trade-in values for old phones and the fact that they give store credit which further lowers how much you'll pay (in my country at least), I'd say it's not that expensive. Just ended up ordering the S22 Ultra the other day to replace my S10+. Had planned on keeping the S10+ for years to come as I'm not one to waste money on the latest phone every year (and I REALLY resent the removal of both the headphone jack and microSD card on these newer phones), but the USB-C port is totally worn out already. It will lose the connection if I just breathe on it, if I can even get it to charge and connect in the first place. So forget about charging in the car. This is the first USB-C device I've owned that I use regularly, and so far USB-C being more durable has definitely not been my experience. Anyway, since Verizon (I think all the major carriers are offering the same deals) was offering $1,000 trade-in value for my S10+, along with selling the next storage size up for the price of the lower size, I figured may as well go all in. This will be my first Note-class phone, and I'm looking forward to it.
How is ur usb-c port already worn out? I didn't even know that was a thing. My Note 10's usb-c port looks brand new. Looks like someone needs to be more careful when plugging in their devices.
I love the note series because of its size, and the pen because I could take notes in class with it and not have to carry around a ton of spiral notebooks anymore, I got really attached to the Fold 3 for the same reasons, except that it does not have a dedicated pen insert, but still for me, after having a folding phone, I just do not think I can go back to anything else at this point unless I absolutely had to.

Can we get some (sustained load) benchmarks between the EU/US versions? Would be interesting to know how they compare, especially since Exynos is now using RDNA2 IP.
Every other Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 phone throttles like crazy and runs hot. I am skeptical that Samsung is going to be decent here. Not until gaming phones with some active cooling come out will we see less throttling, IMO.
MagPC already tested the S22 lineup and the throttle a LOT. They go down to 75% performance after just a few minutes and in benchmarks like GFX they go from 29fps down to just 18 and in Geekbench Single Core from ~1200 to ~800 after a short period of time. It's pretty much QSD810 all over again.
@@Raja995mh33 Damn. My biggest reason to want to upgrade to either the S22+ or the Ultra is so I can game and run emulators like AetherSX2 and Dolphin emulator better and seeing this is quite disappointing. And if so, the hilariously sad thing would be my region getting the SD versions for the first time after being shafted with the weaker Exynos chips for the older S series phones only to now get worse chips with the SD models for the S22 series.
Well yeah, Samsung really turned things around with the One UI overlay/gui for Android. I had avoided them for years, until recently, when the only option on my carrier was either mid range phones, refurbished phones or the S20 FE 5G. So I ended up with the S20 FE 5G, and the One UI experience has been some of the best gui from a third party I've seen in a long time.

I really miss the Note but the Ultra seems like a worthy successor. these new phones are almost tempting me away from my iPhone. I once used the Samsung Galaxy 4 which was ok for like a month but I was honestly regretting buying that phone over the iPhone 5 after a month with thing. So if Samsung really wants me to get their phones over the iPhone they really have to be amazing on battery and UI and really manage the bloatware it comes with because those were the issues I had with the Samsung Galaxy S4. I really want to see you addressing their inflexible approach to photo shooting quality. The thing is that as Galaxy user you are not in control of the target resolution, photo is taken in highest available. This leads to bloating of pictures folder, especially if you tend to use raw formats; it also stacks quite well with SD card removal and death of Samsung Cloud storage, which was previously provided to Galaxy users for free. It also has higher power consumption required to post-process huge images (1880x4000 in my case) with modern upscale/beautification techniques: on my Note 20U I'm regularly seeing how battery melts by 1% per minute when actively taking pictures. There's definitely more adding up to it and I hope that eventually someone qualified will dig into this photoshooting mess and clarify where invisible hand of the market is dragging us, fellow consumers.

Isn't it kinda weird you don't review the regular S22 with these? I mean, did they not send you one or did you choose not to.. for some reason? Because you mention the regular S22 a lot with the specs compared to the S22+ and ultra, but you dont have the phone with it to show it side by side. Kinda odd, would've liked to see the S22 as well, especially considering its much smaller size (which is more convenient for some people, I hate huge heavy phones).
As someone who uses an external USB dac through a USB converter to play music, I can almost forgive the lack of aux. But the expandable storage problem is annoying.
I feel dirty moving on from my glorious Note 9 with great sound, SD card slot, headphone jack, and no camera punch. Finding a good deal on the S22 Ultra, the lack of Note 9 Security Updates, and the ability to make my Note 9 a dedicated Gear VR device tipped me over the edge though. Glad to see that the Note is back in spirit, but no expandability and no headphone jack takes away from what could be the perfect successor to my Note 9.
yeah. i liked that series of phones, I had the note 4 first (s2 before that)
I sucked up the lack of headphone jack with the Note20 Ultra, but I don't think I'll be so easily convinced to go without SD cards.....
Why are you ppl hung up on head phone jacks? Who the fuck still uses wored headphones? Its weird
@@summondominion Your writing style shows me it's pointless to explain preferences to you.
As a guy getting old, I love the magnify feature of the s-pen. Current phone is the Note 8. Can't wait to upgrade to the Ultra.
Note 8????? Throw that thing away and get this one asap lol 😆

@@edwindano Also on a Note 8. Don't do any gaming, and it is an awesome phone. Have no actual need to upgrade this.
@Madness Reborn just an old phone ull definitely feel the difference with the new ones. 120hz, faster charge, multitasking, hours of gaming wothout overheating, resolution etc... that one came out in 2017 5 years old
@@edwindano Okay, fair enough. I've got a recent Motorola personally. Just wondering if there was some big news I'd missed.
Samsung: "We don't have space for a headphone jack!"
Also Samsung: "Hey look we brought back the S Pen, with it's huge internal holster/charger!"
samsung never said that about headphone jack and removing it was the best thing ever for a mobile device to do..lol... old technology should neve be in modern device..thank you apple for starting that and thank you samsung for going the same way as apple :) ps.dont start about that headphone jack sounds better then bt headphones..lol.
@@dj.mb_one Samsung did remove it because they said it would make more room for more battery. Yeah headphone jacks don't sound better than usb, they sound the same. The S-pen for screenshots and gifs is very underrated, especially when you need to mark something.
I'm on the Z Fold3 right now, and you get somewhat of a similar experience, but I'm unable to use it most of the time as I have to store the pen separate.

S6 is still my favorite phone. Preordered the Ultra so hopefully that changes. I don't like the camera bump but hopefully the camera itself makes me fine with it. Would rather have a headphone jack and sd slot over a stylus but I'll adjust. Excited for a heavy phone.
I have screen burn in on my s21 ultra. I thought samsung would've rectified the issue in recent years but I guess not.

Foldables are still not mature enough for most users, especially given how expensive the displays are to repair/replace relative to their durability. I would prefer the S22 Ultra over any of the Samsung foldables (already Pre-Ordered the Ultra).
Repair? Do people be breaking their phones?
@@NGEvangeliman Display is still pretty fragile even if Samsung claimed it is more durable. Just a quick Google search shows quite a number of complaints about their Z series phones already having cracks under normal use despite being new or in use for only a few weeks.
You are a rich guy.
This will be my first Note-class phone, and I'm looking forward to it.
ok
How is ur usb-c port already worn out? I didn't even know that was a thing. My Note 10's usb-c port looks brand new. Looks like someone needs to be more careful when plugging in their devices.

I love the note series because of its size, and the pen because I could take notes in class with it and not have to carry around a ton of spiral notebooks anymore, I got really attached to the Fold 3 for the same reasons, except that it does not have a dedicated pen insert, but still for me, after having a folding phone, I just do not think I can go back to anything else at this point unless I absolutely had to.
That smaller radius screen angles -> very underrated feature!

black, white, green, burgundy, OR the online Samsung exclusives, sky blue, red or graphite?
I'm going for the sky blue
Just pre ordered mine, my carrier is giving me $1,000 credit for my S21U 512, so only $12 a month for the phone cost added to my bill. Ordered a supcase UB pro to go with it.
Just wished for a 3.5mm jack. Love my BT earbuds for gym and convenience, but wired is still king for enjoying music and chilling. Oh well, adapters aren't expensive.
And that video stabilization, damn, actually impressive, even elderly with arthritis can take decent videos now :)
It gets better battery life when performing smaller tasks
MagPC already tested the S22 lineup and the throttle a LOT. They go down to 75% performance after just a few minutes and in benchmarks like GFX they go from 29fps down to just 18 and in Geekbench Single Core from ~1200 to ~800 after a short period of time.
It's pretty much QSD810 all over again.
@@Raja995mh33 Damn. My biggest reason to want to upgrade to either the S22+ or the Ultra is so I can game and run emulators like AetherSX2 and Dolphin emulator better and seeing this is quite disappointing. I'm interested to see if the Exynos models fare any better for prolonged gaming use.

But lemme see what this year's iPhones are like before making any major decisions to switch from iPhone to the Samsung Ultra. I once used the Samsung Galaxy 4 which was ok for like a month but I was honestly regretting buying that phone over the iPhone 5 after a month with thing. So if Samsung really wants me to get their phones over the iPhone they really have to be amazing on battery and UI and really manage the bloatware it comes with because those were the issues I had with the Samsung Galaxy S4. did you get the s22 ultra?
I just got the ultra and noticed last night, no headphone port. Didn't like that but I love the phone. I had a LG stylo 6 lol so it's 100% upgrade for me
With Samsung turning into Apple, unfortunately I can't own another one 😕😂
Rooting should never be locked out.
And lack of SD card will always put me off a phone.

When you said its heavy it sold me as I sometimes carry multiple completely bespoke and or artisan complemented items or devices that are made of soft colored metals like copper or bronze that if dropped or mishandled will never be the same..
The items that are lighter than a standard modern cellphone will NO MATTER WHAT eventually be disregarded in a circumstance that proves to be critical.
in the case of handheld things heavier will be better at least in cases where its worth is constructively evident by its heft..
My note 9 recently started having the green screen issue. Lasted me 2.5 years. Too bad I already had the battery replaced. The new dbrand skin was on the way. It took me a fellow Note fanboy to convince me that this is a viable successor. RIP the headphone jack, heart rate sensor, iris scanner (came in handy during the pandemic), and lastly the back mounted fingerprint scanner.
While I make the switch, I am back to my backup LGV20 which is starting to show its age after so many years.
The reduction of the already small battery size across all three models is a major seal breaker. When will companies learn we want MORE battery life

the s22 ultras design reminds me of the a32

Honestly I learned something in this video. I've bought a couple 45w chargers and 100w chargers all ment for my phone and Honestly I love it but I didn't really think of the fact that it could eventually ruin the battery In the long run
Edit I thought about it for a while and then said to myself why would they put in the feature if it hurt the battery life
I feel like I have never noticed device weight....like ever. z fold 2 was "heavy" but blew the doors off every other phone at the time and I didn't notice that either.
I can attest for the screen brightness. Coming from a Motorola I'd run @ 75% brightness all-day, I was shocked to only need 25% with my S22+.
As someone who uses an external USB dac through a USB converter to play music, I can almost forgive the lack of aux. But the expandable storage problem is annoying.
I haven't watched LTT's channels in 3 years. When did they hire the guy from Cast Away?
I feel dirty moving on from my glorious Note 9 with great sound, SD card slot, headphone jack, and no camera punch. Finding a good deal on the S22 Ultra, the lack of Note 9 Security Updates, and the ability to make my Note 9 a dedicated Gear VR device tipped me over the edge though. Guess I'll have to stop losing wireless buds and start cutting down on what I keep stored on my phone.
Have u observed any battery expansion in any of ur old galaxy phones??
8:00 that maybe due to the video enhancer feature. Turning it off might help.
It’s Herz so it’s Herz. Not Herts as many people may have already commented.
My s22 ultra should be coming in this week, im excited
You must be one of the people that think feathers are heavy because I picked it up at Best buy because I'd already ordered it and I hate the body style but the phone is light as hell it's like holding a piece of plastic just light
The only thing I wish that the s pen could do was to have a camera in the head of it so if I need to take a picture in a tight location for electric work or something you could stick it in there press a button get a picture
So Linus, how do you charge your phone? Since you don't use the fast charging?
I have pre ordered s22 with s9 trade in.
S9 is still ok but the screen is defective with yellowish symptom.
I am on 4th screen since last month. 2 of them are free replacements.
Wow that rear camera is impressive as fuck...
I was about to order it, then you said no audio jack. Already the sd slot was a lot, but no audio jack? Thats insane, why am I paying more but losing out on stuff I used to have? Gonna have to look into another phone this year, after being with the galaxy series for over 10 years this is gonna be tough
Linus to the cameras: 🤜📷
No SD Card? My S20 FE has an SD Card slot. Strange to see the new phones losing features the old ones had.
