Tbh I would also remove the mineral sunscreen as that's what triggered mine. I've just gone three weeks putting literally nothing on my skin and its got a bit better but definitely still there. UPDATE - 4 months of no skincare AT ALL and washing face with water once a week and my PD is healing! Zero therapy works people :)
@@iluvcutestuf13 Hi yes happy to say my PD has almost fully healed! 4 months ago I decided to stop putting anything on my skin and go full zero therapy. I have naturally dry skin so only got water on it once a week when I had to wash my hair in the shower and obviously water would get on it. Apart from that I did literally nothing, no moisturiser, no cleanser. The first 3 months were really hard, it just got drier and drier, then at the end of month 3 my skin kind of peeled and there was softer skin underneath. Coming up to month 5 now and my skin overall is so much calmer and healthier looking. My PD areas are still slightly redder and drier than the rest of my skin but definitely healing. Will never wear skincare products again now as im sure they were the cause of my damaged barrier, hence developing PD.
@@Nana-ir5bf hey, its called zero therapy and is often recommended for treatment of perioral dermatitis so its probabaly the safest treatment you can try. But it depends on what caused your PD in the first place, if it was skincare products then zero therapy is going to take away the risk of further reactions to products and allow the skin's natural healing process to take place. I think many people aren't aware that the skin has the ability to maintain itself, it can just take time. I wouldn't be put off trying it just because you have oily skin. your skin being able to produce oil i.e. form a protective fatty layer over skin is a good sign that is working healthily. If you are constantly cleansing, the skin thinks it needs to make more oil, so it won't be harmful to do zero therapy and let your skin balance itself out over the period of a few months.
@@Melissa-xd7zf what if I’m sweating all day everyday? It feels really dirty do I just wash off and use basic moisturizer? I have hypochlorous acid and rose water or hydrating mist? And what do I do when my face starts to get oily during the day
I experienced perioral dermatitis after 3 weeks of retinol use. Get a prescription for metronidazole. After just a few days my rash is almost gone. I'm thrilled with the results.
Do not be really very happy. I experience also this skin disorder and still today. I got also a prescription for metronidazole. It has gone but not really totally. After few months , it came back and worse than the 1st time. I am crazy and really do not know what to do . I also used for the 1st time retinal from the ordinary. I was advised to start 1st with retinal in stead of Retinol which is stronger than retinal. What would be my skin reaction if I tried retinol directly may be worse ….. anyway I am still suffering. My dermatologist just recommended me to drop any skin routine currently which is also quiet difficult especially when the dermatitis is inflamed and need to camouflage it a concealer ….
Hi, I've just found this video. I've also been on the metronidazole and my skin is improving so far after 3 weeks. Just wondering if either of you have any updates on how it's going for you with the metronidazole? Did you keep using it? Have to wean your skin off it or anything? Did it come back?
I just found this video. I have gone months without putting anything on my skin. No make up, no sunscreen. Just sensitive fragrance free cleanser and moisturizer from Neutrogena. And yet... It's been years. Three years since I got it from wearing a mask. I have a horrible outbreak right now. But it's never gone away. It's always there and gets worse at times. I have not put any steroids or hydrocortisone or anything on it. But I can't get rid of it. It's awful and when it's bad like it is now, it's itchy. I have sensitive skin and the only thing that doesn't make it worse is the Neutrogena. I am at my wits end.
have you tried oral antibiotics? lots of people have had success with them, ive been on 100mg doxycycline for 8 weeks and it still hasnt cleared up though :/ but might be worth a try for you
Thank you so much for this video! I just made an appointment with a dermatologist. This is my first flare up but I have seborrhic dermatitis. I’ve had this flare up for about a month and a half even after switching up my products. 😢
I have been proscribed 16 weeks of small dose of doxycycline antibiotics with food and metronidazole gel…i am seeing results after 3 days already…also stopped using towel (using paper tissue) after face wash, cream for sensitive skin on top part of face (no acids, scrubs, very active creams), threw away all shampoo (using eco bar), no spray deodorant or parfume, changing pillow cases every 2-3 days. Good luck to all, it is struggle but we will win🙌
It’s been about 2 weeks since I had my first flare up and it was really bad. I think mine was due to using topical corticosteroids as I do already have atopic eczema and rosacea. When I first went to the GP, I did not know what was going on with my skin so the doctor prescribed me a hydrocortisone which made it worse. Went back to the GP after doing my own research as well, and he gave me DUAC which is an acne gel. I stopped using everything and was only using DUAC at night. I threw away everything that I was using for my skin care prior to getting PD. It’s been 6 days since I’ve been using DUAC and my PD has substantially gone down. But since DUAC is so drying on the skin and makes the skin peel/flake I had to start getting my skin back in a routine. Currently using the following: 1. CeraVe hydrating cleanser 2. CeraVe micellar cleansing water with niacinamide 3. 100% plant derived squalene from the ordinary 4. La Roche-Posay Tolerine sensitive riche 5. La Roche-Posay anthelios anti-shine suncream SPF 50+ 6. DUAC once daily before bed for 10 days This might not work for everyone but it’s working for me so far. And slowly introduce each product to your routine.

Thank you I’ve now realised that the rash around my mouth that I haven’t got rid of for almost 3 months must be peri oral dermatitis- i first through it was acne, then started treating it with a mild steroid cream (argh I’m sure I made it am worse) have sensitive skin, am a nurse and wear masks a lot so it’s all making sense. I will be following your advice now thanks!
Ugh I’ve been dealing with this for months, and it took months to get into the dermatologist’s office at all. I’ve thrown everything but the kitchen sink at it - topical steroids, acne treatment, etc. Finally got into my appt and on antibiotics, and I’m so glad this information is here. 😭 Never dealt with this before.
How did you get on? If you still need a topical try proskin eczema by the natural skincare company 'mama nature'. I had this red perioral rash all around my mouth and it was gone like magic! I think it has to do with the calendula and the cream feels silky smooth. Mama nature do a full refund if it doesn't help. Doc says my rash was caused by hormonal fluctuations.
I’ve had aggressive POD for 3 years to no avail and no one can help me. I have no idea what to do and feel like all my options aren’t spent. It’s destroying my life.
Great video. Consider patch testing Aquaphor Diaper Cream 40% with no petroleum or mineral oil. Also try organic green tea compresses. No makeup. I hope you find relief.
I've been using Benadryl for mine and it dried up overnight. Still using it and it starts to flake and dry up, making the rash and pimples alot smaller. My face is no longer hurting and there is no longer any soreness or oozing. It does leave around my mouth dry so I add coconut oil to add moisture. . I'm so glad for this though. I got this rash from using huggies baby wipes (aloe vera) on my face. Hope you all find better results for you and feel better about your skin.
I've randomly started getting what I think is perioral dermatitis in my nasolabial folds. I'm rosacea prone which significantly improved and basically resolved with use of daily moisturizer and physical sunscreen. I was using the thicker vanicream moisturizer and eltaMD UV physical but now I've noticed these products have been triggering this perioral dermatitis which is upsetting, so now I'm trying other find replacement products while also trying to clear the dermatitis.
So glad to see this video on POD! Somewhat surprisingly, Epiceram made a massive difference in my POD when I added it to my regimen after I'd been using Elidel for a few weeks. Now Epiceram is the only moisturizer I'll use!
I’m not sure whether I had perioral dermatitis. I applied Aloe gel for 5 days and then shifted to Vaseline. In one day, most of the red patches disappeared and counting. Anyway, I wish no one would go through this disease.
I tried a couple of these treatments recommended but had no joy! Used a brand I had never heard of before (Mama Nature) because their cream proskin eczema that contains calendula was recommended on a forum and my skin has been fantastic!! I, along with my doctor and dermatologist, had given up all hope and we couldn't believe how it healed all of my PD!
Honestly I have done so much to try and heal my PD but nothing works except for sun exposure and unfortunately I live in the uk and the only way I can live without PD is going on the sunbeds twice per week for 6 minutes (that’s the minimum I’ve found that helps me). I even did an allergy test to see if something was triggering my PD, found out I was celiac and cut all wheat and rye out my diet, this never helped my PD. So unfortunately the sunbeds is still my thing.
Oh my Buddha! First person saying Periorale dermatitis and seborrheic dermatitis at the same time is actually a thing. Struggling for months now and not finding a solution. There are conflicting information out there and not any experiences from other sufferer
I suffer from the same thing .. been having SD for the longest time on my cheeks. N this perioral dermatitis started during Covid.. I am so confuse with how to treat n what to use to keep it tame 😢
I have dermatitis seborrheic and inflammatory acne but I am treated with this too, I don't know what to do. I'm some tired, it have been more than 5 years I'm in different treatments.
Dr. Liu thank you so much for this video!!!! I took your suggestions and my PD is clearing up and it’s better than before!! However, can you recommend a makeup foundation that I should try? I am seeing so many variations and am not sure where to turn? Thank you so much!!!
Thanks for the information I just want to ask if Avene cicalfate cream that contains Zinc is helpful or not! Cause is saw a video of dermatologist saying that any zinc containing products may cause a flare up and this was seen only in children so I am not sure whether to use it or not
I hope and pray this helps many of you suffering for a long time. I suffered from this since November of 2023. It first started small then overtook half the bottom of my face. It burned, itched and tingled. I tried almost every natural remedy which may have made it worse. I also was prescribed metro-gel for my family doctor which made it even worse as well. The only things that worked were plan greek yogurt overnight on my face to stop the itching and I purchaed canestan external cream (2% clotrimazole cream) which is an Anti Fungal. My doctor told me that if its not caused by bacteria then its caused by a fungus. It has been 3 full days and my PD is almost Entirely healed (90%). I expect it to be fully gone by day 5. Please if any of you are frustrated then try it. I apply it 3 times per day God bless.
I have perioral dermatitis for two and a half years now. It has gone back after I've done zero therapy but I still have some redness left which bothers me a lot. Nothing helped. Now I'm trying sulfur soap and purchased a Korean mineral sunscreen. Hopefully they'll help.
You could try proskin eczema. I love this and it is the only cream that helped me. Maybe their 'mother of skin' cleanser/moisturiser would work better for you?
I have some area near the nose and cheek fold and now and then near corners of mouth. I was using makeup and a concealer to cover my terrible dark circles under my eyes and sun spots...I started using the Cetaphil cleanser and it seems to be less irritated. How can I deal with looking better if I cannot use makeup to cover the spots, dark circles and sun spots? I am 71 and want to look better.
Hi Thank you so much for making a video on this! I’ve been suffering with this since February, It's around my mouth and even my lips are highly pigmented and dried up. I was prescribed Azelaic acid and lymelysal 300mg. When I searched about Azelaic acid it is said not to be used around mouth. But my problem is around the mouth area. So is it okay to apply around the mouth at night avoiding the lips? What should I use to keep the area hydrated? Thank you
I have been dealing with this for years now, i have tried everything, OTC and prescription, but my options have also been limited because i have been either pregnant, or breastfeeding for the past few years since 2019. I recently started Curology and thats all i am currently using. Its been a month and no improvement yet but i will give it some time and see.
Have you tried a prescription for metronidazole? I experienced perioral dermatitis after 3 weeks of retinol use. After just a few days my rash is almost gone. I'm thrilled with the results.
Great video thank you! So my Perioral dermatitis just cleared up after 3 weeks of just using vanicream cleanser, vanicream moisturizer and topical clyndamycin and oral doxycycline. My case was not severe! I really want to start wearing makeup again and start using my prescription retin A (altreno lotion) again. But I am so afraid to add back products!!! How would you add those back in to your routine? Also I'd been using altreno lotion for almost 3 years every night so my skin is used to it!!

Hi, I have perioral dermatitis for 4 months now. No treatments is responding. Thy gave me steroids treatment for 2 weeks initially- it was clearing up first and then everything came back again when I stopped it. Then, I went to urgent care since it was spreading very badly overall my face including my eyelids. Thy gave me some shot and lotion- I left better for 4-5days, then everything came back again. I went to dermatologist, was on treatment for 2 months with antibiotics, steroids, anti fungal , Elidel, and some other ointment. Again, it was settling down, but once I stop the medication every thing is back again.. I am soo frustrated and with all this medications, my periods is irregular. Please help me. Thanks.

Interesting. I have MS as well. I'm wondering if my DMT caused this because it listed skin infections as side effect. I'm trying to not take the antibiotic prescribed by my derm to clear this up. What a mess... lol
A couple years ago, after being on prednisone for several months, I developed perioral dermatitis. I was desperate, so I used a 20% zinc oxide cream and it worked!
The moisturizer recommendation is confusing. I've been using The La Roche Posay Lipikar AP Balm but you're saying it's too thick? I also own the Aveeno oat gel but you say gels aren't good either. What about the CeraVe Daily Moisturizing lotion?? I stopped the lotion because I felt like it wasn't doing anything to help the situation so I bought the balm thinking thicker is better.
I am suffering from perioral dermatitis since one yr and seen a dermatologist also and she recommending the same face wash and a sunscreen and a moisturizer also but because all of this tiny bumps came on my forehead
My pd is not due tobskincate triggers as such however stopping anything on my skin helps a lot , just amperna products occadionally to help with the dryness on some days. Going dairy free and cutting sugar was the key for me, such a huge difference!

@@Luke2128 Thanks for the reply. That sounds like a good idea. I haven't done that yet because I still wouldn't be able to get medicines they recommend without a prescription. But yes I could consult for over the counter options 🌸
@@TheArunimaa , I'm not sure where you are from, obviously. But here in the states, our big pharmacies are Walgreens and CVS. Both will fill a prescription from a doctor as long as they have the script and the doctors have a number of your pharmacy. Once they fill it, anyone you send can p/u the prescription. Here they only ask you the name and address of the person you're picking up for. If it's a pain killer - different protocol and then it depends on the state and the store. All that said, can anyone p/u and send to you?
I lived in Germany for three years and also traveled around Europe a lot. They don’t don’t really have drugstores like we know them. Go to any of the local pharmacies. Most European pharmacies have pharmacists that can actually prescribe your condition and get you “over-the-counter” medicine because you literally have to get it from them over the counter. They will have stronger/better meds than what you’d find in one of their regular Walgreen-type stores. Use Google translate and show them your actual condition or the medication you’re looking for. I had to do this for a yeast infection that flared while in Italy, haha!
I was looking at getting the cetaphil cleanser, however in the past couple of months people are complaining about the formula being changed. Are there any other cleansers you recommend? How about the cerave cleanser?
Cetapil doesn't seem to help me. The cream just made it worse. I have yet to find a cream for my face. Right now I use shea butter (pure). It's hard to put on though.
Many skin conditions are secondary symptoms of gut problems. Do your own research. Checkout the link between L-glutamine and skin inflammation. Dermatology is in the business of treating symptoms - we can do better. Also checkout biotin an riboflavin deficiency. The problem is on the inside.
Ha I have problems finding any sunscreen that dont give me a flare up, i have even tried mineral sunscreens but allas nothin works. Which is makin me go crazy as a skincare junkie bcs its super important😭
i’m not an expert, but from all the information i have found from doctors and dermatologists about perioral dermatitis, a SA cleanser is most likely way too harsh and will worsen the dermatitis. i personally found the Cerave SA cleanser to be very drying and irritating, even before i had perioral dermatitis. Salicylic acid can reduce the appearance of acne because it exfoliates the skin and gets rid of dead skin and sebum that are clogging the pores. the red bumps you get when you have perioral dermatitis aren’t caused by pore blockages like acne is, so salicylic acid probably won’t help clear them up. my doctor recommended that i just stop using a cleanser and any other skincare products for awhile to see if my dermatitis clears up on its own. if that doesn’t work i’m going to try oral antibiotics. you want to be as gentle as possible to your skin when dealing with perioral dermatitis, and you should see a doctor or dermatologist about it as soon as possible ❤️

Zero therapy works people :)
hi has your PD improved at all?
@@Melissa-xd7zfI feel like this isn’t safe… I would love to try but I have oily skin.

Hey how much percentage of metronidazole have you got?also congrats on your healing journey 🤍
Try a cleanser with zinc pyrithione
I have been proscribed 16 weeks of small dose of doxycycline antibiotics with food and metronidazole gel…i am seeing results after 3 days already…also stopped using towel (using paper tissue) after face wash, cream for sensitive skin on top part of face (no acids, scrubs, very active creams), threw away all shampoo (using eco bar), no spray deodorant or parfume, changing pillow cases every 2-3 days.
Good luck to all, it is struggle but we will win🙌
What cleanser and moisturizer are you using? Also prescribed same treatment as you but still seeing small issues
Can we get an update on your condition? What makeup do you use now?
Currently using the following:
1. CeraVe hydrating cleanser
2. CeraVe micellar cleansing water with niacinamide
3. 100% plant derived squalene from the ordinary
4. La Roche-Posay Tolerine sensitive riche
5. La Roche-Posay anthelios anti-shine suncream SPF 50+
6. DUAC once daily before bed for 10 days
This might not work for everyone but it’s working for me so far. And slowly introduce each product to your routine.
I just use proskin eczema and a cream cleanser and my skin has never looked so good since my PD!
Is there a facial someone with perioral dermatitis prone skin should avoid or a facial service you feel has caused a flare up for someone?
I was told to use vanicream products because it’s gentle. I started having Perioral dermatitis in Feb 2023. Still trying to get rid of it 😢
Try proskin eczema by the natural skincare company 'mama nature'. I had this red perioral rash all around my mouth and it was gone in a couple of weeks. I think it has to do with the calendula. Doc says my rash was caused by hormonal fluctuations but the cream took care of it.
The only thing that clears my POD is a 6 week course of Lymecycline. I use AproDerm Colloidal Oat cream moisturiser which is very kind to my skin xxxx
Did you fine it completely cleared up? Or does it still reappear once in a while?
What mineral based sunscreen would you recommend for someone with POD but also acne prone? Thank you,

Hi! I haven’t left my house in weeks because of it. Is there a foundation/concealer you would recommend?
Yes! I have been telling people about this because it is the only cream that worked!
Why do dermatologists never recommend ALL natural products as opposed to products with predominately chemicals and a few natural products?
That has always puzzled me. Maybe they are conditioned to so so in training and have become more narrow minded?
I suffered from the same for a year plus. Use tacrolimus gel ointment and oatmeal facewash only. It worked.
Did it occur again!
Glad you found something! I used proskin eczema and it was amazing!

Cerave is what caused my perioral dermatitis. I've been using vanicream and metronidazole topical and it seems to be getting better.
I have this prblm for 3 yrs nd still it continuing
I 100% cannot use a single one of these products. I have tried all except one - every single one set off my POD.
very well explained!😊
Many skin conditions are secondary symptoms of gut problems. Do your own research. Checkout the link between L-glutamine and skin inflammation. Dermatology is in the business of treating symptoms - we can do better. Also checkout biotin an riboflavin deficiency. The problem is on the inside.
I think the same, antibiotics could make it worse right ?
Ha I have problems finding any sunscreen that dont give me a flare up, i have even tried mineral sunscreens but allas nothin works. Which is makin me go crazy as a skincare junkie bcs its super important😭
Can Cerave SA cream for rough & bumpy skin be used for perioral dermatitis too?
i’m not an expert, but from all the information i have found from doctors and dermatologists about perioral dermatitis, a SA cleanser is most likely way too harsh and will worsen the dermatitis. i personally found the Cerave SA cleanser to be very drying and irritating, even before i had perioral dermatitis.
@@halifaxverbeck7098 thanks a lot 🤗

What do you think about cera ve??
Love their products I have a dedicated video on my favorites from them
Is cerave good?
can i use vaseline on perioral dermatitis
Not the best. Some feel the occlusive nature may worsen PD
Can perioral dermatitis be on your cheeks?
Can certainly get a few scattered ones but majority of them are focused around the mouth and nose
Okay, well my dermatologist has given me a antibiotic lotion (metronidazole) for a rash that is focused on my cheeks, nose, and mouth. A majority of them are on my cheeks though and she thinks it is perioal dermatitis. Any thoughts?
I have this problem around my mounth and on my cheeks and no one knows what it is. I was using metronidazole (gel) but it did’t help. I made test on demodex but I have negative result so still I don’t know what it is and how to treat it.
@@jordanrisberg5579 I'm the same I have rash that is around my mouth and on my cheeks and under my eye. I was told it was peri oral dermatitis and given elidele cream and its not working and they derm said there was nothing else they could give me. I think I'm going to go g e t a. Second opinion. I can't live like this it's my face and its ridiculous they don't have anything else.
Also to had I've had my rash two years now and I stopped leaving the house and became a recluse.
I think I'm the only guy who has perirorial demirtities
I'm a guy and I'm suffering too :( have you been able to cure it?
I'm the other guy. Used CeraVe lotion and Cetaphil Cleanser. Had a flare up. I don't know which one was the cause just yet.
Nah bro I have it too don’t worry
Antibiotics just cause gut problems and then I have to deal with that. So basically I would be trading one problem for another. That is not a cure.
I had no problems until the stupid masks. My dermatologist said he is seeing a huge increase in PD. I was given oral antibiotics and an antibiotic cream. It got a better but the best thing has ben Manuka Honey with a UMF higher than 20. My dermatologist said that in Women over 50 it never really goes away - it goes dormant until the next time you wear a mask. And sure as heck, everytime I have to put on a mask, the next day, my nose is flaring up. Currently having a problem with columella area. It does burn for sure! I can actually see the spot where I think it lives. I am so sick of this as it's been a year. I am at a point where I seriously would entertain an injection of antibiotic in that area if that is even possible. 😬😳 Anyway, I will give some of these creams a try, but I agree that makeup aggravates it. Thank you for the video and product recommendations.
This is crazy! Once I stopped wearing masks it started!
@@ashleykuzmicki, it's crazy. My MIL said she was fine with the cloth mask but once she moved to the N95, she broke out around her mouth. I'm going to get her the clay soap and some shea butter, which is the only thing that has helped me so far.
Inject much better i have also huhuhu
Hi
The problem is none of these products are cruelty free :(
