Thank you so much for this video! I’ve gotten pretty dark patches and also rough skin on my knees, elbows, and even the top of my big toe during pregnancy. I’m eight months postpartum now and have tried almost everything to lighten the areas and it’s just not happening.
I've had this skin since I was 8 or 9 years old, honestly it made my puberty so painful and now I'm 20 and still can't stop being self-conscious. But after cutting down on starch and using some moisturizer the skin has improved a bit but the dark patches still don't go away completely

Hey, this can be a sign of insulin resistance, pre diabetes, or diabetes. Definitely check in with your primary care physician. I’ve started treating my insulin resistance and my dark areas have improved substantially. You can load on creams and diys but this won’t go away unless you treat the root cause.

I had this as a child and now my daughter has it very badly. She's mixed so it is way worse on her than it was for me. However I did cure nine with a pill from my dermatologist.
I have had it on my neck since my childhood but as i grown it showed up on my underarms and inner thighs, now it's spreading on my corners of mouth, this condition made my life rough as everyone made fun of me and said i wasn't clean. Even now it's my biggest insecurity. I wear full sleeves clothes now, imma try reducing my weight now, i have shed some weight while growing up and my dark neck is kind of less dark now so i guess that will help. Also i will be using the products she recommended

I cut out carbs and see some improvements in my neck but I don’t believe it will ever be 100% cleared up. Even when I did sports in high school my neck was still very dark. So believe it when she says prevention is more helpful than treatment. I use Kojic soap, Alpha arbutin and CeraVe cream for rough and bumpy skin. My neck feels a lot smoother but overall I feel better with myself because I know I’ve at least been eating healthy! Love yourself always ❤

Thanku so much now I have confidance that it is due to my pcod but not my own fault.
People always pointed my neck and arms and I always felt very insecure about it.
I went into depression for two years and was very ashamed to talk about it . Due to this video I got confidence and spoke to my mother .
Am still under treatment although I have no diabetes which I am glad but not going to hide myself because of insecurity .

My was caused by dye allergic and exzema
I’ve dealt with this since I was about 12 years old and was always told I was dirty and needed to scrub my neck & other areas better. Turns out I was just insulin resistant. People can be cruel when they don’t understand something.
Does anyone else notice how black/melanated skin conditions always take a back seat in the medical science world? Like all the conditions we suffer from don’t have viable cures or solutions. Like keloids. Like how lasers are optimized for every skin type but our’s. Like how the FDA doesn’t makes brands test sunscreen on black people. Like how the Fitzpatrick scale is skewed in favor of paler people.
Keloids can be treated with steroids. It needs early medical intervention. I would agree with everything else. It’s even hard to find images or description of certain skin conditions when it occurs in dark skin.
There was a video of a black women who got a laser facial treatment and her entire face was covered in scars. Apparently the laser was not to be used on melanated skin. Sad.

Tretinoin is what really helped me. Made sure I was off for a week, ie spring break, and that it was winter (or that you have a good working A/C) so I didn’t sweat. Knowing tretinoin is chemical peeling, and would burn my skin especially as it peels. And in spots, ie armpits, where you sweat a lot.So I stayed I did the tretinoin chemical peel, I stayed indoors the whole week during the peeling period.But after that?Voila!No more dark spots.

In short terms …lots of sugar scrubs, healthy diet to balance hormones. Mine started due to my pregnancies caused lot of hyperpigmentation.

@@vhinnymolina4420 Adapalene is available over the counter. You can get generic brands or Differin gel. I apply to face to control oil and acne. I also apply on my armpit to lighten the skin and prevent ingrown hairs.

Dr is it possible to use arbutin, tretinoin, and moisturizer at the same time?
I used salicylic acid ointment on my eczema then I have a white patch on the exact same area. I think it might work on my discolorations like dark thigh and dark UA. Maybe knees. I've also used the ordinary lactic acid but I haven't seen much result because it use it on and off
Did the white patches go away by any chance? I'm suffering from them too and don't know what to do.

Goat milk soap is the best for skin care. Especially Beeekman 1802 brand. I love their whipped body cream and bar soap! Been using it for 6 years already. I absolutely love goat milk soap.

Can you use tretinoin with Cerave SA together at the same time for inner thighs? From what i learned, you can’t both at the same time in your face. Is it because the skin in the inner thighs are thicker that the face?
I started using the kikumasamune lotion (it’s a very watery lotion). What do you think of that? Have you heard of it? I read it has arbutin in it - well a form of it.
I also wanted to use eucerin advanced repair cream down their. I have used eucerin advanced repair cream on my face and it’s worked really well
growing up i hated myself, i was insecure, i didnt care to take care of myself and now i regret it. i was bullied. i have no friends. i felt useless. im trying so hard to take care of myself but everything has built up pver time and now it feels like its too much to handle. i wanna give up lol.
Hey I am also suffering from this problem I am a 16 year old now I am not obese and I am healthy yet I have this problem that is embarrassing and makes me insecure. People should normalise it since many people have it and sometimes losing weight doesn’t help it’s a very tough issue that a lot of people have. You shouldn’t give up no matter what and not judge your body it’ll make you more miserable that’s why I don’t focus on my skin issue anymore because I know for a fact it’s not going away no matter how hard I try.

Thank you so much for this education. I have a 21 year old adopted daughter from China that just developed this. We have no medical history for her. She is pretty overweight. What is the chance she’d have malignant AN? I heard AN was super rare in Asians.
My daughter had a pituitary tumor causing false diabetic symptoms. I encourage your daughter to see an endocrine specialist… this symptom is an underlying issue of more health problems. Wishing your daughter the best.

If the underlying cause is treated would the acanthosis nigricans still come back? For example losing weight and changing your diet.

I'm confused, how are you supposed to use urea products together with Trentinoin. Do you use them both at the same time , or one in the A.M and one at night.
I would love to know where you were in the 90s because when I went to go see a dermatologist back home in New York he told me it was friction. I needed to lose weight but didn’t offer any other solutions like cream or any other thing he just told me I had to lose weight.

I actually had this. I used shea butter for a month & it cleared all up. I don’t know if it was this particular illness but i had the darkening my neck, inner elbow, under my boobs. I live in Nigeria so I have access to organic shea butter.

@@inuhuabdulrahim7966 the darkening of my neck, inner elbows , under boob & under belly area. I didn’t know until my sis saw it & immediately started using organic shea butter in those locations. Shea butter is very healing so it was more of a skin issue not a diabetic symptom, not everything is a scary ailment

I've used lotions, chemical peels, scrub, lighting creams, changed my diet, lowered my A1C to a normal range and I've been dealing with a dark neck my whole life. I'm about to try napalm next. Do you know if there is something stronger than a lotion because nothing is working. Can't use tretinoin, because I'm trying to get pregnant

Aveeno baby moisture lotion is good, but everyone is different.
I never find important information. If I use those creams, after o before deodorant? After bath? Is there a risk of mixing certain deodorant with these creams or acids?

Guys it’s your diet!! I’m 170lbs and much healthier than when I was 130lbs and pre-diabetic. You need to eat well balanced meals. Not just pizza for the day, fast food, etc. once I changed what I ate my inner thighs lightened all the way up. My armpits got lighter as well. I used to have insulin deposit under my arm…I haven’t gotten it back in over a decade. Also Strength training helps as well. Products can lighten the dark areas but it will not go away unless you make a change.
what type of foods did you eat?
@@chantelle5170 I cut high sugar foods. Cereal (froot loops, cheerios, etc.), junk food, eating pasta on the daily…high carb foods. I learned that when I was eating pasta on the daily my body didn’t have enough time to break it down and due to my resistance my insulin wasn’t helping with sugar spikes. So giving my body a break during the week from high carbs and sugars helped a lot. Also, I increased my protein intake, made it relative to the carbs I was consuming. I make sure I have protein with every meal. Sometimes a lot of us will just eat a bowl of spaghetti or cereal for dinner. “We” can’t do that all the time. Another important thing…stay away from high fructose corn syrup and highly processed foods. If you can’t pronounce the ingredients stay away. I shop for food alternatives. Since I love pasta I went for Banza instead…it has more protein in it. Instead of Doritos I went for this seasoned Florida old fashioned brand of tortilla chips. Instead of Yoplait I went for ratio protein yogurt. Instead of honey I use Agave. Instead of eggo waffles I eat Vans waffles, they also make ones with extra protein in them as well. Just some examples.
