I love pre rendered graphics. To me they still look just absolutely amazing. The chracter models should of been completely redone and not just retextured though.
When a game comes out and I look at review for them , I usually watch and read about 10-15 of them . Every time I come to this channel and see what you have say , I'm always impressed on how fair and accurate you judge games . Keep up the good work !!!

Applejuiceisxxx How many versions of re4 are on steam? i heard of this ultra hd edition that some youtubers have been playing recently.
Mohammed Rafi that ultimate hd edtion is still in the works i believe and that is a fanmade hd mod. Capcom's version is poorly optimized and much of the textures were not remade in HD.

On steam I think there's only the original pc version and the ultimate hd edition. Then you have the gamecube, wii, ps2, android (don't know about ios) ps3 versions. I for one think there are enough RE4's out there xD

Although lots of diehard fans dislike remakes I think this one is pretty gud. Im still waiting for a RE game to play like 4. The inventory system was sooo perfect to me.

I've played and beaten this game a number of times. Overall I really enjoyed the gameplay mechanics and loved the partner support systems. However, I think the story needed major work. When I first bought and played this I was under the impression that it would focus on Mansion events from Bravo Team's perspective. But that was not the case. Instead you just see it from Rebecca's POV along with Billy. The rest of Bravo Team were barely in this.
The current console generation has been a generation of many HD Remakes and Definitive Editions. Some games were deserving of the HD makeover while other titles didn't really need it to begin with. However, Gamecube and PS2 games are in need of an HD polish as is the case with Resident Evil Revelations HD, Resident Evil 0 HD Remaster and Resident Evil 4 Ultimate HD Edition. In regards to RE 0 HD the game ended up getting a pretty big graphical polish when it comes to its visuals, most notably the character models, textures, lighting, cutscenes and shadows. Unfortunately, the audio department is sorely lacking minus for some sound effects and small audio cues. The game is definitely worth a purchase for the PC. Resident Evil Origins Collection releases tomorrow for the PS4 and Xbox which I do plan on purchasing as well. As someone who has the original versions that came out for the Gamecube its a huge plus to have said versions on a newer console with the HD polish. Thanks for another great video and God bless!
As a side note, giant scorpions are good for two things:
1- Inducing nightmares
2- Scaring the shit out of someone and in the process making them piss in their pants
Man, I Miss these style of survival horror games. I really appreciate the sound/music analysis during the reviews. It's crazy how much difference those things make in any type of entertainment medium. Digging the content, that 100,000 subscriber plaque shall be yours soon!

Played the game back on GameCube, remember enjoying it for what it was. Will probably buy and play it again when it goes on sale.
This was very enjoyable, never got a chance to play it the first time not having a game cube, but compared to newer titles this one actually isn't as cheesy as other titles and more creepy than action based. Still I think the remake of resident evil 1 was better but glad both finally are available outside of Nintendo

Has anyone noticed any difficulty changes between the GC version and the HD rereleases? Running into issues with enemy reactions being suddenly amazing, when I was able to run past them in the GC version, as well as bosses having more HP in spite of using the same tactics and weapons for the GC version.
Great review, as always, mate. I have this sitting on my PS4 right now - gonna get stuck in tonight. The original RE was the reason I bought a PlayStation back in 1998, and am still playing the HD Remake, but never played Zero. If it is more of the same with minor tweaks then that sounds like a perfectly reasonable proposition for the price, so am really looking forward to finally checking it out. Also, where do I add my vote for a RE2 HD remake? Sounds like a no-brainer but, seeing as how the GC version was a straight PS port, Capcom probably don't have a true "remastered" version to build on, so it would presumably take actual effort and $$$ to make it a reality.

I've heard a lot of mixed reviews about this game and the question I would like answered is would someone who has only played through the action based resident evil games, I.E 4, 5 and 6, and enjoyed them, have a good time playing this game? I love the survival horror genre and watched my uncle play the original resident evil games when I was a kid and he is a huge fan of the series and thinks the action resident evil games are insulting. Is this game worth my money?

I enjoyed the game on my 2nd playthrough, once you beat the game your sense of direction improves and everything becomes more fun, especially with the new unlocked weapons from leech hunter

Hi Karak, I am a huge fan of your reviews and love the pace and quality of the videos. If I may suggest one enhancement for reviews of games that are re-makes, it would be to have one comparison section between the original and the new. Essentially these titles stand on the shoulders of their initial releases, so it would be nice to see just how much work was put into remaking it either visually or audio/game play wise, seeing as how this is a large reason we would be shelling out for the revamped price of the game. Otherwise as always, excellent review.

For me, RE3 (I like the many locations), REmake for PS4 (creepy), RE Zero (kinda a mix of RE3 and RE1 IMO), RE2 (great, but literally everything needing a key or being a puzzle just got annoying), and finally RE4 (nice change of pace). Anything after that is just utter, utter turd and deservedly needs wiping from memory and existence. Heres hoping RE7 is awesome :D
I just got this game. Never got to play it because they never released it on ps2 back in the day. I got it because it's similar to RE 1 remake.
+Mazaki Anzu And the moment they did that they signed the death warrant for classic Resident Evil gameplay. there just weren't enough players on Gamecube That wanted Resident Evil. On a system where most of your fanbase plays Mario and all the other "family friendly" stuff, it's a very bad idea to just toss a random mature game in there when most of your RE fanbase was on PlayStation 2 and wasn't going to buy a GameCube for 2 games. I bought a gamecube after it was long obsolete because I wanted to play the REmake. They went action-oriented because of the poor sales of Resident Evil remake. It's a shame they were too stupid to realize that most of GameCubes fanbase had no interest in Resident Evil and that is why it sold poorly. It was in no way shape or form a terrible game. It was outstanding in fact from a technical standpoint and as a Resident Evil game. There's a lot of people that prefer it to the original game. Resident Evil 4 would have been drastically different and we would have never had this action bastard gameplay if they didn't screw up and put it on a Nintendo system. I'm done ranting, at least they're correcting their mistakes in some way and I can't wait for Resident Evil 2 to get its pretty little remake.
I actually did have a gamecube at one point.. But I'm not sure if I knew Resident Evil 0 existed back then. I remember playing RE 2-3 on PS2 and Resident Evil 4 on Gamecube, then PS2; now I own it for 360.

The very first rule of these older REs - you don't use Alternate controls. This game was designed around tank controls, you mustn't disrespect original creators' work. Alternate controls kind of break this game

This game is excellent....but hard as fuck.
I've always found Re0 a beautiful game, even prettier than the Re1 Remake, but a boring game. I had both REmake and Re0 on gamecube and I've played the shit out of REmake but Re0 Ive just completed one time. The inventory management is tedious and the lack of the famous "lan-connected magical boxes" makes the backtracking way worse when you have to go back and retrieve an item, you had descarted cause you were out of space, to combine with that item needed to progress the game.
And the AI is pretty dumb, makes the game almost feel like one giant escort mission.
And as for the armosphere I've alway found that the lavish amount of enemy types (monkeys, insects, giant scorpions, giant bats, frogs, leechs) made the a freak circus show rather than a creepy b-movie about hellish experiments with humans gone wrong. And the story in this one, for me, summarizes whats wrong with the batshit crazy RE lore: "anime" villains with 'magical' powers.
Anyway, awesome review as always, Karak. Re0 is juts not my favorite. I like the more "grounded" haunted house feel of the REmake.

Yes, it is not perfect, but fun if you like the story and enjoy switching characters on the fly, which you couldn't do on most other RE games. The lack of boxes, didn't bother me, because this was something new and different, which I enjoyed. This type of game play is in other games, so I guess it's a matter of preference. I loved the monsters too! Again, it was something different , which jell with you, but it did for me. "Anime," in RE games, come on, this game was made by the Japanese, so what do you expect? Anime is big over there and still appears in many games.
Sam Clegg I like I RE, but RE0 was the worst of the entire series, and the amount of OP enemies it throws at you really becomes unfair by the end of the game. The bat boss fight, the leech men, and the tyrant are ridiculous. Unless you've got heaps of molotovs, don't even bother trying to shoot the leech men. Don't hope to accurately shoot the bat because the targeted aiming will go crazy once the mini-bats show up, and good luck dodging the tyrant's attacks in the closet-like rooms you have to fight him in. That and the lack of an item box? Not a fun experience.

Resident Evil 0 is a solid entry into the series. However, with the other Resident Evils, especially Resident Evil remake, I really wanted to beat this game under 3 hours to get the Infinity rocket launcher. This game on the other hand I just didn't really feel like it. Feels like once you play it through one time that's good enough. Maybe it's because the story is lackluster and doesn't really add anything that intriguing or interesting to the series. Feels like a complete DLC. I definitely agree that there's cheesiness to this game. Billy and especially the main villain Marcus have a very anime feel but their long hair going down basically each other waist feels like you're watching the Japanese animation. Very over the top. The salute at the end with the thumbs-up by Billy was super cheesy. Still a good game though but I wouldn't rate it higher than the original 3 RE's.

Yup, started playing it and getting 120 fps consistently (game is capped at that frame rate). I'm getting a stutter/hitch at door and camera transitions though, which never happened with RE1HD for me. Waiting a bit til that gets sorted out, plus the lack of an available door skip mod really sours the experience.
yea first i kinda hated it too but after i while it added to the atmosphere and i started liking it, but not for the first 2-3 hours of gameplay :D

- Convoluted story,begs too many questions at the end.
- Annoying item drop system
- Barely any soundtrack,only the Save Room is memorable.
- Only a few locations with lots of backtracking.
- Scare factor minimal
Whole game feels unnecessary and doesn't fit at all well with the original series,in fact I'm certain Rebecca just hallucinated all these events while chugging back all that Serum in the room under the stairs,why else would she NEVER talk about what happened when Chris finds her.

Great review, but I really have to question the recommendation to "watch the movie" first...
I'm interested, kind off. But I still have to finish the RE1 Remake/Remaster with the classic bad VA mod. Yeah, I said it, fuck the new VA. After I finish it though. I'll probably get this one. To be fair, I don't think that static background holds that well, I prefer full 3d like RE4, but I could do with less action. But who am I kidding, after RE6 we can't hope for a classic RE game.

I think resident evil needs to re - invent itself. These hd remakes is all we get now and yeah there fun for nostalgia but that's about it. I think an open world resident evil would do well. puzzles , 3rd person gun play and some serious scavenging for gear and ammo. With all the classic monsters to fight.

Thank you, I see so many horror games released today that get praised for being scary but the level design and pacing are completely ignored.

All that crap Rebecca went through in 0 and she gets one shot'd by a lizard man in the original(well she might die).
RE title are not for everyone and that what makes them great. You were a little to mean to this game in this review, all you needed to say is that if you are not into puzzle solving and strategy type game play you are not gonna enjoy it. RE is a very niche kind of market its not for everyone and that why most fans of the old games hate RE 4, 5 and 6

calvin Dellenbach Don't forget to play Code Veronica because that is the true sequel to Resident Evil 2. RE3 Nemesis is just a side story to RE 2. Then continue to RE 4 and finish with 5 to conclude the Wesker arc. You don't need to play Resident Evil 6 because fuck Resident 6. Try out the two Revelation games as well, they're alright.
