When I saw your audition, I instantly cried. Although I didn’t grow up with a father, this song hit all the notes because I missed out on all the wonderful things a father could’ve been for me. But I also cried because my grandmother who passed away April 18,2022 was my second mother and also played my father role. She meant the world to me. She saw value in me, but most importantly she loved me for me and never judged me. Everyday that goes by I miss her and think about her. You made me feel her when I listened to your audition. Brah you have no idea how much pride and love I feel when I hear you sing. Music is more to local people than it is to most. Music is part of our lives, families, and friends. It makes us laugh and cry and feel things normal words can’t. I’m so sorry I can’t imagine how it feels to lose my father, but you couldn’t possibly be doing a better job of making him proud. My dad's currently on dialysis. Im his caregiver. In my 20 years of life ive never had a song resonate with my fears so much. Just the thought of losing him has me constantly terrified, and hearing this made me burst out in tears In the best way possible. While losing him would be the hardest thing ive ever experienced this song gives me hope that even if his transplant dosen't come in time I could be there for him one last time and make him proud. Every time I hear you I cry like a baby. My father passed away May 7th, 2019 from pancreatic cancer and he was my best friend. I still mourn his death now and I feel like he walks every step of my life next to me. When I heard your story on American Idol I can relate to you so much. I rooted for you the entire way and I’m so happy you won American Idol, you have such a beautiful soul and I know for sure your dad guided you through the whole journey. I cry every time I listen to this song. My mom and dad got a divorce when I was 9. But my daddy left home when I was just 3. But I remembered him and he looked. When I became a teen I tried looking for him. I took my lunch money and saved it until I could make one call. I did this for 3 yrs. Then when I was 19. He had a lady call me . She said my dad was dying and wanted to see me. She gave me the hospital the town and the state. And I left that night. It was early morning when I arrived. The nurse stopped me and said it wasn't visiting hours.
I said with tears in my eyes and told her my story. She said go he's in room ###.
There he was awake sitting on edge of the bed smoking. I said daddy and I just stood there and cried. He said my full name . He knew me. I went to his bed and we both weeped like we were two babies. He wouldn't let go for sometime and I was hoping he'd never let go !!!!! I had go back home I had responsibilities.
Went back to see him..daddy passed away right after that. It's been 51 yrs . And I still have times I cry. But I miss him everyday. My heart is broken 💔
And it can never be fixed. He missed out on so much. And I missed out on everything. I'm not sure why I'm telling this. But I'm 70yrs old and I just look back to memories and he's not in any of them. For all you dad's out there if you walked away from your kids ho find them . They want you to wrap your arms around them tell them you've never stopped loving them ❤

I have many Tongan friends in our Polynesian community in Australia and I can tell you that I felt all the humility and love of family in that song. The fire alarm beep at the start and end, unless I’m crazy, and the glow of the TV on in the background make this so real. It’s the opposite of the audition on TV. Both amazing performances, and I can’t stop crying. This song represents the pain of losing my father captured so perfectly in a song it’s scary. Nobody ever says how good Iam is at guitar! Those hammers ons add so much character and Iam just nails them throughout the song

At his funeral all I could say was in the short time I had with him he taught me to be a man, a father, a brother and a son. Thank you so much, 1 week ago my grandfather passed away from COVID19, thought I wasn't sad and I could just pretend nothing happened. Sadly I was wrong, I didn't know that there was a hole in my heart that neither alcohol nor entertainment could fill. Thank you for your singing, let me know my sadness, let me cry a lot, and gradually fill my pain. Although it still hurts, I believe that someday Monsters will be chased all away.
