The Album Permanent Waves was Rush at their absolute best, yet it always seems to be over shadowed by Moving Pictures and 2112. I have always thought PW and MP could be a double album. Natural Science is a masterpiece.

A true masterpiece. I love the offbeats from Neil Peart. His drumming and lyrics in this song is from another universe. This song is so perfect and i have lost count how many times i have heard it. It doesnt get any better than this. Alex soloing the crap out of his guitar. The fill in from Neil at the end is so fast, my eyes started bleeding.

Great reaction!! This is really about how technology can make you forget about nature! They must both be “tamed” in order to protect both!! Since this came out in 1982, they were a little ahead of the times, but of course they were spot on and the situation is even more relevant today then it was then! This song is very “proggy” with time signatures in 7/8, 6/8 and 3/4.... the talent of these 3 guys is over the top!! Alex has said this is one of his favorite songs to play!! Great job!! Keep em coming!! Check out the comments on “Xanadu- Exit Stage Left” if you haven’t done it yet!! Best live song from the best live album EVER!! God Bless and be safe... from TX!!

Love every one of your Rush reactions brother!
As an ardent fan, having seen them 24x times since GUP tour, I too was totally blown away when I witnessed this played live back in 1994! I still remember nodding in disbelief that I would be blessed to witness this song live. Other notable songs where I felt the same thing is La Villa Strangiato, Camera Eye and 2112- in it's entirety - back in 1994 Test For echo Tour! I mean these were just epic compositions from a better time and I... got to hear them all live(!!!); amazing really, just so grateful for those life changing experiences. Some great live footage exists of the latter in their 1994 show.
I'd really also give their Counterparts and Signals album a listen. Both were transitional albums, the latter grooving to Police like time signatures and reggae undertones on tunes like Digital Man. Losing It and Analog Kid rocking out in their own musical realms. And then Counterparts came around in 1997 featuring Rush back to their roots with shorter song compositions, but back to guitar driven songs showing yet another evolution packing an even meaner punch! You should really give the entire studio album a listen if you want to dive down another crazy intriguing Rush rabbit hole, filled with great grooves, epic guitar solos, and poignant lyrics.
Sad to say, Neil would suffer dual tragedies months after that tour ended, losing his teenage daughter Selena first in a car accident, then his wife Jackie to cancer less than a year later. RIP NEP; what f'n incredible scholar and musician he was. He'll never be replicated again.
