I love this era of Rush! I understand 80's Rush isn't for everyone, but it's still Rush, and their talent, their musicianship, their craft, continues to evolve from their already legendary 70's era, and man, it definitely shows.
Fantastic tune. Rush never fails to surprise with their eclectic approaches to rock music. This production is technically superb and as always all three greats are in perfect synchrony.
The 80s was a special time for RUSH. They had this amazing, mystical sound. It's almost as if they had a fourth member of the band on keyboards (a testament to the amazing musicianship of Geddy Lee). The saddest part is that this sound would not last, because Alex thought the synth was edging out his guitar presence in the music.
The first time I heard this- I fell into a deep lifelong love of Rush- I liked them before but this album solidified them as my obsession, my one true musical love.
WOW! You have the best Rush Reactions playlist,so many different one all from my favorite era of Rush.Lookslike I'm a be here awhile on Thanksgiving Day.
One of Rush's most polarizing songs as it embraces the 80's techno genre which is not always appealing to some fans. I love this era of Rush. Geddys voice and basslines are epic, Alex's guitar work is amazing, and Neil is, well, the best drummer in rock.
An incredible power opening song for Power Windows. I remember when I first heard this on the radio and ran out to buy the album. Still remaines one of my favorite Rush albums. Thank you for your reviews, they say pretty much how I feel about these songs.
I grew up on this album. One of my favorites. I've loved them all but this was the 2nd album my older brother shared with me and so many of the songs were just so good. Hold Your Fire was my first album.
@@tonebonetelevision try getting his books. I recommend _Ghost Rider_ . It’s a bit dark as it chronicles Neil’s grieving process, but it provides insight to his philosophical way of thinking.
There are four albums in the synth era cycle. It begins with Signals. If you start there you can track the progression of the band and the development of this sound that culminates with Hold Your Fire. Every record has its merits. The Rush journey is long and varied. As I mentioned in another reaction, it’s a near miracle for any band to break just once with a signature defining sound. Rush broke at least four separate times and found success in each one.
Power Windows is my favorite album! The music, the lyrics, the passion. Oh wait... That's every Rush album. This is just another example of why this is my favorite band. Manhattan Project and Territories are definite must listens. Red Sector A, Distant Early Warning, Mission, Force Ten, Chain Lightning, Roll The Bones, Ghost of a Chance, Red Tide, Bravado, Test for Echo, Driven
Power Windows is a fantastic album, I'd say it's in my top 3 from Rush. Every song on this album is very good, with some of my favorites on this album, such as Marathon, and Middletown dreams. If you like this style of Rush, the Hold Your Fire album is very much like it. There are so many great songs from this era though, Mission, The Pass, Middletown Dreams, Between the Wheels, Roll The bones, Time Stand Still, Available Light, Lock and Key, Dreamline, Enemy Within, Losin It, Territories. Enjoy the journey, it's a good one.
@@tonebonetelevision Just trying to hit a few of them that I think you'll like, if you like the 2 off of Power Windows that you've listened to. Can't sit here and list them all.
Tony - some trivia for you - Alex tuned his PRS up a whole step to perform this song. If you've seen the live video of a performance, you'll recognize that. Great meaning in this song.
Wow dude, really like your reactions. Personally, my favorite Rush is the era your starting to listen to as it's more melodic, and to me, the lighter sound of this era lends itself to Geddy's voice waaay better. It just works, and it baffles me that the majority of Rush fans seem to like the heavier, earlier stuff more. But each to their own. Enjoyed it man; thanks.
Bass, organ AND he's playing the synth too. They do this live. Neal Peart had a big drum kit and part of it was synthesized too for certain special effects.
I didn't discover rush until the early 90s so yeah I was listening to poison and stuff back then too! I was a huge extreme fan as well as U2 and Van Halen before rush came along
Once you've listened to the studio versions, although perhaps "cleaner", since RUSH are "true-to-the-album" when live you must check out some of their best (hard to find stuff that isn't) live cuts. 2 benefits to this of course: 1 - Yes, they really do it live and you can see the magic happen and 2 - They're spectacular at finishing songs on stage that annoyingly fade on the album versions.
Le feeling complètement différent que Power Windows. Ils se defoncent. Bonne réaction, merci. En passant vous jouez quoi au juste, la guitare ou plus de la basse? Merci et continuez.
Grace Under Pressure was just before Power Windows. The first three songs are great but a bit depressing so I don't listen to them often. The last five songs there are excellent, "The Enemy Within" is always overlooked. Hold Your Fire is next after Power Windows and is also synthy but a little less so maybe. It has some gems like "Lock and Key" and "Turn the Page".
I like it, man! I like where your head is at! You should check out a song by Rush called “Between The Wheels” from Grace Under Pressure!! It will take your head clean off!! Go man, go!!
Try Middletown dreams, Territories and Grand designs off of Power Windows. Analog Kid ,Digital man and Losing it off of signals. Between the wheels, Kid gloves and Distant early warning off of Grace under pressure. Turn the page off of Hold your fire. I think they would be your style.
Ghost of a chance ,or presto off presto, roll the bones and bravado from roll the bones album, pick a song out of 167 of them,u really won't be disappointed.when music speaks to you, moves something inside you its magical, almost preordained.their music is a testament to their talent their creativity but most of all, their work ethic
Stick with this album for a while it’s got a few more tracks you should listen to before you move on... Grand Designs Manhattan Project Territories And my favorite Middletown Dreams, On second thought just listen to the whole album.. it’s all good. ✌️☝️☝️✌️
Well put, John. In my opinion, Power Windows is arguably one of their best albums period. All eight songs are spectacular and sounded just as good live (Never got to hear the woefully overlooked "Emotion Detector" but oh well). Power Windows is definitely one of my desert island albums.
Synths in the foreground, electronic drums, weird sound effects, too much reverb and not nearly enough Alex Lifeson were my impression from this album. I would blame the 80s but some of their best stuff was in the 80s. There is a lot of great playing going on here, I don't deny it, but the overall sound did not sound like the Rush I knew and loved. That being said I never stopped buying the new albums. Counterparts was the return I was waiting for.
Nope. I suffered through this song again. Magnificent work from Geddy and Neil - afterall, 1985 was the middle of the era of Geddy and Neil. Why did Alex even play on this song?- Geddy could have programmed almost all the guitar parts into a synthesizer. Same old, tired guitar power chords sliced into groups of four, same tired predictable guitar arpeggios, same old guitar false harmonics during the solo. As far as I can tell all their garbage music began when they started to sell out in 1980. They actually had a couple great songs from the '80s (Between The Wheels, Mission, Available Light) - this song is not one of them. To respond to all the Haters at one time, I may need to comment here once more. Give me Hemispheres, 2112, or A Farewell To Kings. Definitely even Caress Of Steel.
Kirkland Raab your a Rush Buddy which means you like the early Rush sound which is awesome 👏🏾. But you don’t have a clue to Rush’s versatility and what they did from 82-87 ... Alex’s innovations on guitar 🎸 are off the chart!!! You can’t shred for 40 years. Vapor Trails doesn’t have one lead on the entire album!!! Absolute confidence!!! Sorry this isn’t for you but you need to step somewhere with your bs!!! 3 Geniuses!!! All of them Master’s at there craft ... CHECK IT

I seen the Power Windows tour in Buffalo in 85. Marillion opened for them. That concert was unreal.

Right now it is #1 on my list but that might change after I check out the next 3 proceeding albums!
@@tonebonetelevision Have to check out their last album Clockwork Angels it is brilliant!
See why every Rush album, each song is a party for the brain, the ears, the heart and the soul! Rush are simply the best!
I absolutely freaking love the bass work in this song.
This was the Wal bass era for Geddy, it really has pop.
Dude, I’ve been jamming to this tune since 1985, for freaking 35 years! Where ya been?
Haha. I was a 9 year old 35’years ago, probably watching thunder cats 😊😺
I love he synths and the mixing of this record, everything sound huge.
Geddy's vocal/bass/synth-combo! Second to none. Love this album!
Loving your Rush reactions! So fun to watch someone discover my favorite band for themselves. New subscriber here!

Love the live version where they insert Dr. Evil's "one MEEELLION dollars!" as the song wraps up.

That clap that your hearing is a trigger right next to Neil's high hat pedal that he hits through out this song!!
Neil with another nod to John Dos Passos here: “The Big Money.” “The Camera Eye” was another Dos Passos reference I believe.
Alex Lifeson’s 🎸 work on this Album is superb ... 3 Master craftsman!!!

Unique! Then and now!
Great reaction ! If you watch The Big Money in concert you definitely see Geddy singing and playing bass !
Rush 'Power Windows' is a masterpiece!
Their synth stuff is great
Mystic rhythms is good as well and time stand still from their synth era
Great to see so many reactioners dipping in to Power Windows for the first time! Epic album! 😁
The Power Windows album seems to sound better with every passing year
1:42 ”oh the drums, man!” when Alex is pulling off the sickest pick slide of all time. He made his guitar sound like a tiger roaring. LOL

Check out "Emotion Detector" from this same album. IMHO, it's an EXTREMELY underrated gem.

That opening of the instrumental section was electronic drums, and coupled with harmonics on the guitar. Made a nice combination.
