I believe the back cover of the power windows album was inspired by a guy(R.I.P., was one of my best friends)in St Louis MO in 1984 at a rush concert, he was sitting five rows up from the side of the stage very close, he had a giant pair of binoculars watching the band, and he said Getty took a double-take at him.
This song will grow on you, I promise. The lyrics are fabulous. The energy is fantastic. It’s not epic, it’s not 2112 or YYZ, but such a great song. Every time you hear it you’ll enjoy it more.
Definitely was a great tour, I saw both shows in Chicago. Plus I discovered marillion as a bonus. Also this song has one of my favorite solos from Alex .Well done Lerxt.
The talent that they forged, really great band with the best lyrics on several of their songs. Really smart and creatively insightful lyrics. This band knew what worked for them and they made it look easy.
RUSH is a very unique sound and their music can be very complex. The lyrics can also be very deep. When was in High School, everyone called them the Nerds band - must be why I liked their music so much ;)
This was played a lot on MTV back in the 80s. It was one of the first music videos, along with money for nothing by dire straits to use computer graphics in the video.
When I was in college, and lived in a dorm, down the hall from my room there was kid who, every morning, and i MEAN EVERY MORNING, as soon as quiet hours was over would blast MLK's "I have a dream" speech. I get it. Its a great speech from a great man and very inspirational but after a month of this, EVERY MORNING we all had about enough of it. So one morning, I got ready, door open, volume turned up, and Big Money on pause. As soon has his started that speech, I hit the play button and out came that massive opening power chord to The Big Money and I blew that speech away!!
Power Windows was one of the first Compact Discs I ever bought and remains one of my favorite Rush albums. Plenty of 80s synth, awesome base lines and drumming in all the tunes. Personal favorites are Territories, Mystic Rhythms and Grand Designs.
Neil: I didn't want to take the easy knee jerk reaction of saying that anything that's money is bad, because it's too simplistic, and of course it's just not true ... It's like weapons really; it's not what they are it's what people do with them. They can be nasty things and there is an ugly side of it that isn't necessarily bad, but it's tasteless at least. Like the game show mentality, the lotteries and things that I call "The Cinderella story on the tumble of a dice" where all of a sudden, through some totally random effect of a number being chosen, or be the most stupidest on a game show you know win a million dollars, these things take all the reality out of money... If you take the old fashioned thing where you learned how to do something, where you worked hard at it and earned some money; that's how you get wealthy, that's supposed to be the American dream. So much of that gets eroded because people don't believe in it anymore, and they see it happen on that tumble of the dice or somebody on T.V. who's getting paid a whole lot of money to play the fool - that totally takes away any belief you might have in the worthwhileness of learning things and of getting good at something so people will reward you accordingly. High finance, as I tried to point out in the song, is sometimes a good thing in terms of medical research and all large charitable things, most of them are huge institutions and they achieve a lot of good. And people do get fed and housed and clothed and educated and get clean water, and these things go on and I know them to be. But people find it in themselves to ignore them, and the only ultimately negative thing I had to arrive at, the ultimate conclusion with money, was that it had no soul - you know that's the last line of the song, and that was the bottom line of it all - because it doesn't have any conscience, it can't control it. - Innerview with Jim Ladd
Grand Designs, and Time Stands Still are both from this and their next album at the height of this sound. I'd recommend "Mission" live off their 1988 concert tour to really get blown away at what these guys were doing at this point. Also make sure you keep an eye on their lyrics!
I remember when this video came out and I was soooooo furious that it was chopped up. The cuts are minor but make a huge difference-make sure you listen to the uncut song sometime.
Good reactions. My only problem with Alex's solos are that they are so good it almost always leaves you wanting more. All of them are good at what they do and deserve a share of the spotlight which they do nicely.
Where Rush is concerned I'm glad to see the younger generation picking up on this but if you really want to understand rush enjoy the music and listen to the words simple right
I love your enthusiasm for the band, myself being Canadian. Three things make Canada great, hockey, free health care and Rush. And three things make Rush great, their members. There is another three piece band, a young band that gets its inspiration from bands like Rush, Pink Floyd, Muse and 70's rock. They are called The Warning and you should check out anything live by them to see their enthusiasm, musicianship and song writing ability. I could really say they are a modern day band of endless quality riffs.
Never watch film clips from the 80s, they are always edited and formatted for MTV, and so it is here. A good 40 seconds has been sliced out of the song (including from the outro, which you liked), and you lose some of the song's essence. Always choose the original studio version...
I see you guys don't have a ton of views... I'll give you 3 artist that will top your 18k views (5 months) in 1 to 7 days.. these 3 have a MASSIVE following and the artist are amazing. 1} Dimash pronounced Dee-mosh - ---> ruclips.net/video/JEz1qGS0T1Q/видео.html 2) Diana Ankudinova - --> ruclips.net/video/M-znD6QKbrg/видео.html 3) Angela Jordan --> ruclips.net/video/RTbKhkceR00/видео.html
What a funky song, really! Perfection! Power Windows is a masterpiece!
One of their best songs ever🤯lyrically AND instrumentally 🎼🥇🇨🇦🎸🥁🎹🎤🤘😊
Rush at their zenith. Perfect song from a perfect album.

Emerson, Lake and Palmer are artist that will blow your minds.
Love the bass fills

It is epic, such a perfect album.
One of my favorites. Very catchy.
2nd Most underrated song….

Great song great reaction greatest rock band of all time ❤
Dat bass doe
Good one guys! Thanks for the honesty.
Grand Designs, and Time Stands Still are both from this and their next album at the height of this sound. I'd recommend "Mission" live off their 1988 concert tour to really get blown away at what these guys were doing at this point. Also make sure you keep an eye on their lyrics!
Time Stand Still is from the next album, Hold Your Fire.
This is the era when my older brother introduced me to Rush. Mission, Tai Shan, Countdown, Time Stands Still. Still incredible.
I remember when this video came out and I was soooooo furious that it was chopped up. The cuts are minor but make a huge difference-make sure you listen to the uncut song sometime.
Great album!! Keep going.
This is much better live.
Still need to do Natural Science Studio version Fire 🔥 fire 🔥 fire 🔥
This is one of the few good songs on this album and in this time period.
Good reactions. My only problem with Alex's solos are that they are so good it almost always leaves you wanting more. All of them are good at what they do and deserve a share of the spotlight which they do nicely.
80s graphics Love it I Graduated in 85
Definitely playing out on this one..Grace Under Pressure indeed
Awesome reaction, thanks, Todd from Ohio...
When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
Matthew 9:36
This is my favorite Rush album. The production should make it sound sterile, but the bass and drums keep it loose.
Where Rush is concerned I'm glad to see the younger generation picking up on this but if you really want to understand rush enjoy the music and listen to the words simple right
This is my favorite Alex Lifeson solo... it's SICK! "Mission" has my favorite outro solo from him and I recommend checking that out too!
Somewhat discombobulated, they don't always go where you expect.

Their look influenced by what was happening at the time. Their music still bore the quality.
I can name at least 30 songs by RUSH off the top of my head that are better.
Go on then.
