    1. Gaming laptop is not pocketable

      I got one just because I put out a $5 deposit in 2021 and when it was my turn to pay, why not? TBH I have every console except the PS5 and Series X and each console has the Maxed SSD capacity with all their games on it, keeping it simple but thats for home, what if I want it to go like take out? You wanna carry alot of these flimsy switch game carts or1TB internal ssd + 1TB microsd 2TB on the run?

      My god man, how big are your pockets that you consider the steam deck pocketable? I love the deck now I've started to get used to controllers again but the size of the pockets required to fit a deck inside is crazy to me. Not to mention the fact that any pocket it is in will be putting pressure on the screen and thumbsticks. I'd consider it about as portable as a gaming laptop, they are both backpackable, if thats even a word. The deck has the gaming laptop beat in that it is a lot more usable on a couch or lap (ironic when you consider thats what a laptop was designed for) the deck is also cheaper. So it makes for good budget gaming away from home or a desk, especially for people who travel/commute a lot or are away from a desk with a lot of downtime e.g. college students. Unfortunately the laptop has it beat in every other metric I can think of, even couch gaming could be contested because you can always set the laptop down and plug in a controller.

    Suggesting the Nintendo Switch for retro games is terrible advice. The library is very small and the cheapest option for their plus expansion is 50 dollars a year.
    Alot of the most treasured retro games aren’t even on the system and as soon as you cancel your expensive subscription you can no longer play the games.
    I love my Nintendo Switch but emulation on the Deck is Far far superior. The game selection on switch is a tiny fraction of what you’ll have access to on steam deck

Switch physical copy of games hold their value more compared to Steam game sales , more sales and even more sales and Epic / GoG/ Amazon Prime free games.

    Main reason to get a steam deck is dual boot windows and steam. Means I can run all the windows programs I need without having to lug around a laptop. Also the power consumption to performance ratio is really good as well. But the last consideration to get the deck is the price point. It’s not way overpriced but still flexible enough for modifications.

    While I appreciate your video I totally disagree with your points, especially about switch games and emulation. Not a single person interested in buying a steam deck says they want to buy it to play switch games. While you can emulate them okay, no one is buying a deck for that purpose. And emulating on these other devices you mentioned are on two different levels. While those system can run games maybe yo to PS1, they want be useful after that. The steamdeck can emulate PS3 games which is no easy taste for many devices. And while yes there’s tinkering that needs to be done to make thing optimal they aren’t huge deal breaks and very simple to do. Most people buying this device are techies, and will have no problem going to Ted it if need be. And lastly even if games say they aren’t playable or unverified, they still work, a lot of the time.
    Since getting my steam deck I haven’t touched my Xbox Series X, PS5, or Switch. I’ve been enjoying AAA PC games, older PC games, and retro emulation way too much.

    Ouch.. Dude - I haven't touched my switch in over a year and I sold it for the deck and HOLEY SMOKES - this thing is incredible!! I LOVE IT. I can play all these old titles I loved from PS3/Xbox360 era to even current games like Dead Space and Callisto. Yes it's got compromises, but WOW. Dude, this is perhaps the worst justifications I have ever seen "not to buy the steam deck". The thing is like nothing I've ever owned. Yes its like a weak gaming PC that can play new titles with lowered settings - BUT IT'S A HANDHELD. And for what it is, it's quite cheap - I got the 64 and added a 512 Micro SD card (nearly as fast as SSD). You've only got 319 subs and finding poor arguments not to buy a deck is a really bad way to catch new ones friend. Almost 4000 views and only 319 still? Ouch. Deck-pro videos and content is HOT right now as handheld PC gaming is a new niche to be plundered. I started a channel years ago (another name) and went after popular tech (tablet gaming at the time) and I got 3200 subs in under 2 months and didn't monetize my vids so they even didn't get promoted by the algorithm. Don't cripple your channel with unpopular opinions like this. I mean, there's little legitimacy to your video and much of your arguments against it are just.. bad ones. I wish your channel all the luck, you do have a professional looking format (waaay better than I had) - but this is a bad video topic and I think you're steering people in wrong directions with bad advice. If this were a pro-deck video you'd be scooping up subs. Honestly, the Deck's only true failing is its battery life - but depending on how you set up your games - it can be stretched out considerably. A video on ways to do that would get you views AND subs. This video is just bad advice (as a Deck and prior Switch owner with a bunch of dusty retro handhelds I wish I hadn't wasted my money on.). Cheers.

      Well thanks to his opinion I'm sticking with a laptop now I know a steam powered handheld device is not capable of running all steam games and requires a verification procedure. • @Skett
      @Skett Год назад

      @@arnolduk123the games don't require verification, it's just that those games have been confirmed by valve that they'll fully work out of the box.
      You can install any software you like on it, just no guarantee that it will work as it's using Linux with a software layer to run Windows executables. In my experience more unsupported games work than not, but may require some tinkering.

    • @arnolduk123
      @arnolduk123 Год назад

      @@Skett Whatever way you put it, games still need to be verified or manual checked to see that they are 100% compatible. • @Skett
      @Skett Год назад

      @@arnolduk123 I simply said that they don't require a verification procedure, and they don't. 100% of steam games running on it would be great but unfortunately that's not the case. About 25% of the games I have on mine are verified and about 50% are either not verified or classed as partly working (which usually just means small text or having to bring up the on screen keyboard) but seem to work absolutely fine. That's enough for me but if you're worried about your library not working it's fair enough and a laptop may be more what you'd need (as you said). I love mine but I understand that they're not for everyone. Enjoy gaming where you can ;)

    The biggest issue I have is trying to use the Steam Deck outside my home on a road trip or something. I run into issues when in offline mode (even with airplane mode enabled) where I want to play a game and I can't. Forced updates fundamentally ruin the concept of a portable "On the Go" system.
    Portable in the sense of playing it from bed or the couch sure, but I won't be bringing my Steam Deck with me anywhere unless I know I'll have internet access moving forward. It's just not worth the hassle.
    A Steam Deck that is used daily is much less likely to have issues, it's the ones that are off for a few days that you wanna take with you that become the problem. The more Steam Decks in the household, the bigger the headache it is.

For us tinkerers, this thing is great but I'm afraid the console player would get frustrated trying to do certain things. Many things aren't plug and play. This is fine for me. I'm used to messing with settings and downloading plugins to get something to work but many people aren't. The analysis has some points but seems missing one important point. People like SD may because of all-in-one nature. They could play steam games, Xbox game pass, amulation, watching video, surfing internet etc., but no need to bring so many different devices but just one could fulfil all these. Due to this, that's why other companies like OneXPlayer, Aya Neo, GDP etc., would like to join and share the cake. Sometimes it is kind of convenience like riding on a bus or MTR, going to toilet, or just play 15 mins before sleeping etc.,

    Professor Tek discouraging people NOT to buy Tech. The Steam Deck is a Portable PC you can't buy nor build a PC like a Steam Deck. Yes a Switch Lite is $200 but most games on the Switch is like 60 bucks , to go down the rabbit hole you need teach the average joe to jailbreak find roms and install, That alone is way more that alot can handle. Steam has a lot of titles for a buck or two can't say that for the Switch Lite and no AAA titles and need to pay premium to play online , thats another 100 bucks on top. so switch lite $200+$100 premium + $$$ for games is as much as a 64GB Steam Deck.

    As someone who has spent the last 40-ish hours trying to install Tekken 7 via WiFi... I absolutely hate this thing.
    The WiFi is ABYSMAL to the point of not functioning on certain routers -- making a dock/hub MANDATORY for normal use. The analog sticks suck, the d-pad position sucks, the face buttons stick, and the track pads are a waste of component space. Not to mention the CPU hangs at the slightest HINT of load. I cannot overstate how much I hate this device. It's the crappiest PC I own, and the second crappiest controller I own.
    I deeply, deeply regret the purchase. Buy a gaming laptop or a functional handheld instead. I wish I'd bought a Switch or literally any non-AMD device.
