    I finally bit the bullet and purchased the 512 OLED over the weekend. Thought about getting a SD since they first launched, but after the countless videos and articles talking about the new OLED version, I couldn’t resist any longer. I definitely thought about getting the Rog Ally since it’s got more power, but comparing the Ally to the SD is like comparing the Xbox series X to the series S….and I love my series S, I’m more of a casual gamer, I don’t need the most powerful piece of hardware on the market, I just want to play games and have fun😂

      I don't think the comparaison of series X to series S is accurate, in term of power yes but the SD interface is infinitely better in my opinion, the ally is more raw power. What I'm trying to say is that I think the only thing the ally does better is power, where as for the xbox, the series X is simply better than the S there is no arguing. I think the SD and ally are very different, and for different peoples

    I've bough 3 decks at this point, the launch version which I have sold to a friend, a second launch deck for my GF for Christmas and the OLED version a couple weeks ago and can say without a doubt this is my favourite console. I love that it's so simple and seamless. I stopped playing console games when the Xbox One launch and went directly to PC, but pc although has great games its never felt as laid back as when I was playing the 360. The steam deck 100% offers that, and I love being able to sit in the tv room with everyone playing a game while they watch tv.

    my big concern with getting a steam deck is how long before the requirement floor of new releases exceed the performance ceiling of the steam deck to keep a steady 30fps

    • @TonyCassara
      @TonyCassara  10 месяцев назад +16

      I wouldn’t worry about that because developers are actively tweaking their games to perform well on deck. It’s the mark of a good dev when they can turn down settings to accommodate weaker machines. Everything I play runs between 60 and 90 fps and the AAA games for the most part hit 30 with lowest settings. The one thing that is hit or miss is Switch emulation but I still manage to get 20-25 fps min there and some of that bottleneck is in the emulator itself so improvements will come!

    Thanks for going through the list with your machine! My OLED has a lot of the issues and defects listed and I was curious whether some of them, like the rattling buttons, were common enough to be more byproducts of design choices rather than defects. I think previous owning an LCD Deck with none of these issues is what makes having these issues on the OLED Deck much more frustrating and disappointing regardless of good features and good pricing.

    • @TonyCassara
      @TonyCassara  10 месяцев назад +1

      Manufacturing is hard and it’s even harder right now given the state of US/China relations. I think Valve made the right tradeoffs and accepted a level of quality that still delivers a great experience to customers at a price that is nearly competing with consoles. Friends who have never had PCs are buying Steam Decks and I think that’s a very good thing 😁

    • @AJarofToeJam
      @AJarofToeJam 10 месяцев назад +2

      @@TonyCassara Oh 100% on manufacturing, and I think it's more than fair to accept tradeoffs and be happy with what one's received within that perspective. That said, I think each user/consumer should also figure out to what degree they're willing to make compromises since they are the ones purchasing the final goods/services and living with them at the end of the day. Being unhappy with tradeoffs doesn't have to be negativity directed towards Valve, it could be criticism directed towards the state of industries, markets, and their practices. Unfortunately, because it's their product, Valve has to be the ones to address these bad user experiences.

    I unfortunately found a dead blue sub pixel on my LE. It suck’s because the LE is beautiful but I submitted a ticket to rma 24hrs ago; still waiting for a response back. If something isn’t 100% out of the box, I can’t trust it to last until steam deck 2, which may be another 2years.
    I’m also bothered/annoyed that Valve would use a less reliable screen manufacturer for a product that they advertise as a “premium/special” version.

    • @TonyCassara
      @TonyCassara  10 месяцев назад

      My guess is they secured the contracts for the typical deck a long time ago and in bigger quantities and because the LE was a smaller / later order they had to go with a different manufacturer to make it financially sound. It’s unfortunate but it was also a test to see if people want the custom color ways which seems like a resounding yes!

    I got my Steam Deck OLED some days ago and so far I have had none of the issues described here. The physical faults are not present (yet?) and the usability is perfectly fine for me. This may be the reason why no other big YT channel has raised these issues discussed here - because they probably are just way to rare to be a realistic picture of the Steam Deck.
    It's like saying every car breaks at 100k miles. Some break even at 10k, but this is not to be expected of every car. So if you think about buying a Steam Deck - expect a perfectly working product with no flaws whatsoever.

    This was a good/informative video, but I can see a possibility of ALOT of hate coming your way with this video (and honestly it will be un justified IMO). But I say this because literally all of these issues are slight defects that have only been observed in a select amount of units. You have to remember that with MORE units sold (more than double the amount at the original Steam Deck launch) more units are going to have issues that could lead to devices being sent back to valve and/or online threads getting made to talk about said issues. It's just how it goes in the tech world.
    My OLED has none of these issues and same goes for my 3 friends who also got the OLED on launch day. Maybe we got lucky, but from what I am seeing it seems that for ever 1,000 units sold, 1 or 2 of them seem to have these defects.
    I was sorta hoping this video would highlight issues that EVERY steam deck OLED owner would be experiencing and what Valve could improve on for future models, not just one-off defects that clearly aren't a massive issue.
    Anyway, great video as I already stated and I am excited to see more steam deck videos from you in the future Tony! Keep it up

    Most of my headsets require a dongle, and the Deck doesn't support LC3 Bluetooth currently, and aptx low latency is on its way out, leaving few low latency options with noise canceling. It has the hardware, and Pipewire did get updates for LC3, but only time will tell when Valve includes those updates to SteamOS.

    A few things to note, it's not reasonable to expect perfect QC for this kind of thing (keyword: perfect). Issues with the device will always seem over-represented because someone with an issue will make it KNOWN, whereas someone without has much less reason to.
    Some issues may not even be a fault of Valve, but perhaps rough handling in shipment, etc. Temperature and humidity changes can also cause the parts to expand/contract, and do so unevenly.
    1. A single dead pixel is not acceptable. A stuck pixel and a dead pixel are not the same thing. If you do, in fact, have any dead pixel, that means you have a broken screen-period. And a single dead pixel means other pixels are at significantly greater risk of dying over its life. If you have a stuck pixel, try and fix it if you can, but RMA if you can't - RMA unquestionably if you have a dead pixel.
    2. I don't entirely know what the issue is regarding the sticks. Try and fix it if you can, or try and RMA it if you can't.
    3. Triggers, same thing. Try fixing it first if you have it. RMA it if it bothers you.
    4. A/B/X/Y buttons rattling is an "issue" I have personally. Specifically on my Y button. My X button is a bit mushier than the other 3 as well. It personally doesn't bother me whatsoever, and the rattling itself has also been present on other controllers I have. I have seen people with their A/B/X/Y buttons stuck. It was an issue for some people on the LCD model, same here, it seems. I personally never had the issue on either. Only suggestion is try and press them a little lighter or more directly down/less of an angle.
    5. The D-pad issues are something I have never heard of anyone having an issue with before. Really don't think this issue is any kind of widespread.
    6. Same thing as the D-pad as with the bumpers.
    7. My OLED sits perfectly flush on a flat surface (luckily), but if it didn't, that would drive me utterly insane. Try twisting it to see if that helps.
    Obviously, if you have an issue, and particularly, an issue that bothers you, do try and return it, but I just say this to remind people to be considerate of circumstance.

    I have the haptic feedback issue where the left trackpad is way louder than the right. I scared myself a bit when I read that people were having that issue but if I'm honest I thought that it was a feature at first 😅. It does seem like most of these issues are pretty minor all things considered. I might try to fix my trackpad down the line but for now it's whatever in my book.

      Because you paid a lot for a product why not make sure it works 100% like intended?

    • @Nicktechnoo
      @Nicktechnoo 10 месяцев назад +12

      Because if you have even 1 dead pixel that opens up the possibility of the display to continue getting more dead pixels within a short time span which THEN would be noticeable and ruin the experience you paid for. So you might as well send it back during the return policy and exchange if you like or get your money back.

    These are what you guys consider issues. You've got to be kidding me. Nothing will ever be built perfect. Nor should any company give a damn about complaints like these. You expect a company to put every unit under a microscope when you are only spending what $700.00 on it. This isn't a sports car. That's not in the budget.
