I've been interested in picking one up on the cheap now the dust has settled. Seems like a great backlog killer, I'm also into upgrading the SSD and picking up a 1TB SD card down the line. Sure is exciting watching all these videos about emulation and little tweaks to get good performance and battery out of it.
Heard good things about the comparable experience to OLED using the vibrantdeck plugin like you hinted at, it seems really versatile that way being a whole portable PC.

I have a 1440p monitor with a built in USB-C PD KVM Switch, so I literally only need a USB-C cable to dock my Deck and give it power. I also have a USB-C nvme SSD connected to the KVM, which allows me to boot into full Linux distro when docked. (It could've been Windows, but who wants that when Linux exists!? :D) This is my work environment completely devoid of games and distractions. The most amazing part is that the device only draws 1-3W typically when doing desktop tasks and programming. 20W at full load. That's honestly INCREDIBLE!!! Especially considering the amount of performance you get.

  • @ravine9083

Great video. I almost want to buy another one! 😂 I was at the tail end of the queue and I bought one for my whole family back in September. That was a good Christmas. I upgraded my steam deck to a 2tb NVMe and I play steam games, original Xbox games, and various consoles from *shall not be named company*. I'm very happy with the steam deck. It's almost perfect, except there's no video for Burnout 3. I have to use my Linux desktop PC to play that game. The steam deck is better than I imagined. I hope Valve continues the trend of user serviceable steam decks.

Steam deck 64GB is nice but here it is priced 100 USD more than the Switch OLED. Since I had a switch oled, I just ended up buying a laptop that can emulate 4k 60fps PS2 games and some newer games at 1080p, can do valorant at 120fps for the same price as the steam deck but with a whole lot better battery and 512GB SSD and it can detect my already available switch pro controller. Plex worked great right after install on the Steam Deck, no clue what hes talking about

  • @duckilythelovely3040

    I actually disagree.
I think if you already have a gaming pc, the switch offers the best value.
For one, you can get them used for 200-250.
Secondly, any pc game you can play, you've already been playing and likely are bored with it, or just don't care.
I know allot of people with a steam deck, they don't even touch it. But they still play their SWITCH.
want to know why that is? Because it has a stack of games that are special, ones you can't get anywhere else
that run without need of emulation, or glitches while some emulation games flat out don't run on it, or don't work.
The switch also offers easy multiplayer! I get an hour launch break where I work, so me and people take the controllers and have a blast.
The switch offers you so much more in terms of fun regarding portability.
On top of this, there is nothing coming out on pc that excites me, where as the switch has a prefla of amazing games coming out.
The steam deck is just a boring device that leaves me with the question "Why did I get this?"

"Nothing coming out of pc that excites me" thats all you need to say. It isnt for you. Im not really into switch games but the few that I wanna play i can just emulate with better graphics.

@@ferny7402 Problem is not many work that well on steam deck, it's great that for you it's good enough. But, few pc games I want to play, I do it on PC with "Better graphics"
The switch offers something exclusive, and special, while the steam deck is a lesser of a much greater. On steam deck, you can't emulate multiplayer, constant updates, cloud saves, and 100% functionality.
Just isn't the same, likewise the deck isn't the same as a full pc. And that's where it just falls short for me. It's existence is tolerated, but not needed.

@@duckilythelovely3040 I guess it depends on use case. "Not needed" to me would be a switch. Multiplayer and "cloud saving" is pretty useless to me if thats all im missing out on the switch games. I dont think people buy this just for switch games. Playing the switch version of certain games is whats not good enough for me. Some of them just look horrid. I also don't like carrying more than one device for different games from snes to switch. Painless emulation is amazing. Also my more than a decade old steam account hasn't had this much play time in a while. This is so much better than carrying an expensive gaming laptop or a gaming pc.

    • @duckilythelovely3040
      @duckilythelovely3040 Год назад +4

@@ferny7402 The Steam deck does not have painless emulation by ANY means, and you know this is true.
Most games barely run, some don't run at all. And many that do run at around 20-30 fps with an even lower resolution than t he switch. While being littered with random frame spikes, audio issues, and crashes and other oddities.
The switch offers a much brighter, and better OLED screen than the deck.
      Much longer battery life.
Access to AAA titles that simply work, and don't require going into settings for 30 minutes to get it to run well.
Access to to RETRO games which you COULD emulate well, but again without the cloud saves on them, nor the multiplayer. For you it may not matter, but for allot actually? yes I' know people who got the switch just to play classic games that they love with multiplayer.
Steam deck is cool, but it lacks in many areas the switch is top tier in. Neither replace either.
But it's when people try to say it does, is what's funny to me.
I find it funny, how people will say "I emulate wii games on my pc better! " and that's not true, a few games run pretty well depending on hardware, but allot don't at all or are filled with glitches.
yet at they same time they'll use another device which does the oposit, and plays their pc games at max low FSR performance DLSS hacks and INI edits.

The switch Oled has actually the same screen size as the Steamdeck.. not smaller, but you said something very right, has one of the best handheld screens.. another thing, just buy another joycon set and get 4 co-op at home and with the deck, it’s more expensive adding 4 controllers plus a dock just to play like the Switch Oled.. and I could keep going.. steamdeck is the best value/money but not the best go to.. all about the subjects that are going to use it.
