honestly, the most attractive feature of the steam deck for me is already having a comprehensive library of all my favourite games. the experience of buying a console (the switch for me) is always soured by those first few weeks with very few games and little reason to play it over your pc
That's kind of your own fault for not buying more games when you buy a console (the switch for you) though? I have like 300 games in my Steam Library, but most of them are total garbage. I actually play two of them, Civ 6 and PuBG. This handheld would be absolutely awful to play Civ6 on, and you might be able to get PuBG to work on it, but the framerate would be low and graphics settings would need to go to low / medium. Even still the controls on the Steam Deck are awful for FPS games, so I can't see myself playing PuBG on it... Whereas on the Switch I have Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Mario Odyssey and Zelda BOTW, four great games which work really well on handheld / joypad controls. I think the biggest issue the Cleveland Steamer has is that most PC games are not in any way set up for Joypad control. Those that are, are usually low-budget indie platformers which are just... meh.

This is by far the best "hands on" I've ever seen of a pre-release product. Linus came incredibly prepared to test a wide range of important technical questions and he remains so focused while his excitement for the device is palpable. Fantastic video! The Steam Deck truly feels like the first no-compromises handheld at a reasonable price, and I'm as excited for it as Linus is.

the only thing im worried about how prone it will be to hardware failure. There are many features on the device and most of those are hardly replacable for the common consumer. I also dont know how good valves repair service will be.
This is how you do a product launch. With transparency. It's such an underrated marketing strategy most of the time, but the best aspect of it is it also sets realistic (or as realistic as you can get) expectations for the product, so people can have a good idea of what they're going to get.
definitely, and on a handheld gaming console its never gonna be as noticable in person as it is on paper. a lot of esports pros even reduce their res to get extra fps. CSGO 720P STRETCHED RES BABYYYYY
Well put.
STEAM Deck is an actual a PC on a mobile- feel and just like a PC I can use import all my games that is non-STEAM based and I hope Valve would actually work with GOG on this one as well. CDProjekt better work with Valve on STEAM Deck because it will also help their market since half of their market are also using STEAM. So it's no brainer to work with Valve when half of your market is also using STEAM to capture more customers.

Game-Developers who are low-funded like me would definitely want GOG to push forward on working with Valve on a cross platform.

That's kind of your own fault for not buying more games when you buy a console (the switch for you) though? I have like 300 games in my Steam Library, but most of them are total garbage. Those that are, are usually low-budget indie platformers which are just... meh.

Difference between Linus and journalists is Linus actually has a passion for this stuff. The others probably couldn't care less.
They'd be too busy trying to find a way to call Valve racist or sexist. And yes, it is nice to see someone who actually cares and has passion to give us a look at an unreleased console. Wow, so this whole thing has been super interesting, up to 12 minutes, but seeing the motion controls inform the fine aiming, that made me say "Wow!" aloud. That's awesome. It's a brilliant addition to standard stick controlling in FPS which is let's be honest not great if you're used to using a mouse. Seeing the stick controllers get close then the motion of moving the entire thing do fine aiming is amazing. It's exciting, and this review is excellent!
I agree, but its nothing new or unique, i recall playing some games on the ps vita back in the day. Truly excellent way to play fps
@@metroid2 I did not know that! I'm impressed by this innovation.
@@GraeHall it was pretty awesome. Uncharted Golden Abyss had this mechanism. It made playing it on the hardest difficulty a breeze as popping headshots was so much easier than on the console versions.
If you’ve ever played splatoon you’d have used it before. I saw it on the steam deck and I legit said thank god because fine aiming is so hard on console controls.
Man, Valve is confident in this hardware, and it shows by a type of review like this. Great PR move.
oh yeah, they could have asked him not to and no one would have known.
Keep in mind this is just a preview of pre-release hardware. They've got 4 more months to tweak the software even if they are probably locked down on the hardware at this point.
People will truly know if the Steam Deck is good or not based on impressions after long term use and if Crowbcat makes a video on it.
It not a review
@Krazy Kommando “Looks great” is Valve paying you to say this? This looks like something you’d see off Wish or Amazon.
This is how it’s supposed to be done! Both LTT and Valve handled this great. Linus bringing all kinds of stuff to try and Valve saying ”ok, go ahead”. I turned from ”kinda want because it looks pretty sweet” to really getting one.
It also goes to show that Valve trusts their product. Consider how many engineers and game developers put companies under NDA until release day. Valve said 'Fucking come on with your latency tester, and equipment! We're good to go.'
