I play on PS5 and PC mostly, but dayum, my Steam Deck is my buddy for ANY type of flights or train rides. Just love this thing so much. It'll be fun for me for years to come. Thanks for the vid, man!
I literally just traded in a Series X for $390 to Gamestop, bought Steam gift cards with credit ($200 at a time) and then bought a steam deck 2 days ago. Wasn't using xbox, and can still access game pass via cloud.
Did the same with my Switch and PS5 🤣. Miss em a little bit, but the trade off was totally worth it. One library, most games, almost anywhere. If Nintendo cared about making pc ports, it’d be perfect, but we know how that goes…
The steam deck got me into PC Gaming. It's quite an amazing handheld, but there were too many games that I couldn't play due to them being unsupported. That made me switch over to the ROG Ally, which is much more powerful, but it made me miss how console-like the steam deck was. Now I'm just waiting to see how xbox's handheld turns out.
In testing it’s hardly been called much more powerful than the steamdeck, a little more powerful, but you might be exaggerating a bit. It only really reached that point with the overlock mode, which kills the battery way too fast to be practical in many situations. Edit: also, having the track pads are really nice. Some games benefit from them a ton
Bought the oled steamdeck one month ago best buy ever,,,,,,,and for emulation many great ps2 games looks and play fantastic on the deck......even xbox cloud gaming plays excellent
I'm not quite a day one adopter, mostly because I forgot about the preorder starting, so reserved my slot about a week late. I got the 256 GB, and I've been super happy with it. If you're super into having the best quality graphics or the smoothest experience with the higher graphics settings available in games, you will probably not be super happy with it, but if you're willing to compromise with the hardware, its great. My brother has one and loves his. He's also more techy than I am.
Here from the future yes the LCD has one ultimate advantage over competitors....battery life! a ROG Ally or LEGO can't even run Tomb Raider 2013 for longer than an hour.
I just bought a 64gb because it was under 300 and an SD card is cheap. I haven't had a PC in a long time, and only been gaming on my switch when I can.
Love my OLED one and that was upgraded from the original LCD versions. If you want a good handheld with god support then I personally wouldn't by from anyone else except from Valve.
Regarding compatibility: In my experience, SteamOS is MORE compatible with older games than Windows 11 is. This is a little bit unintuitive, because you'd expect PC games to work best on Windows... but modern Windows SUCKS. I can't even launch Fallout 3 without a community-made patch. It works immediately on my Steam Deck. That is one example of many. I'm a life-long windows user, hardcore PC nerd, and the steam deck has converted me.
I installed Windows on an SD card and it runs pretty well, other than the audio drivers... I need headphones to hear anything since the speakers won't work. It's probably not the best, but it is serviceable for the Windows games I play. I absolutely love the Steam Deck OLED screen and the console is really comfortable, so it's a trade off I was happy to make.
Got a refurbished 64gb slapped in a 1tb drive all these other handhelds just can't hold a candle to ease of use and battery life! I can lock Fallout 4 to 40fps at 7 watts and get 4 hours of battery. Other Windows Handhelds can't even get past 2 hours
This has been the best device I’ve ever purchased. Waited a year to get mine delivered for the lcd model. It got to the point where my wife wanted to play it too so we would take turns. Finally, when the OLED model came out my wife so happened to win $500 bucks from the scratch ticket from the gas station so she called me and asked if I wanted the terabyte model rather than a Christmas present that way I could just give her the LCD model and I could have the OLED. Now, we can both play project zomboid on the couch while our son has the T.V on and toys.
@@punch6482 My PC had just been collecting dust. I don’t care too much for multiplayer games anymore but to play a bunch of indies, emulators and ps4/xbox one era games is nothing short of amazing. I’m glad you’re enjoying yours too man!
I always recommend the Steam Deck to anyone who wants to get into PC gaming, I just temper their expectations with what games it can handle. As long as it’s a game that can run on Xbox One or PS4, everything will work fine. Even some games on XSX and PS5 can run if the graphics are set to low. If people are fine with a game on Switch, they’ll be really fine with it on Deck.
The steamdeck oled is the better buy using Linux runs better over windows since it's not equipped for mobile plus it has issues weaker battery and currently asus may be under investigation for warranty issues so I'd say get the 1tb oled steamdeck
@@animefrasier Battery should be better as it's 80whr vs 50whr. Deck LCD and OG Ally have very similar run times with the Deck being more efficient at 12w and under as they have the same size battery
@crestofhonor2349 I'm referring the the OLEd model. Has a longer battery that last a bit more plus the SD card issue overall between a few issues plus asus looking at investigation over. Warranty and customer support I don't. Trust em and steam is more user friendly and customizable run and look great. And more affordable.
I think Valve should take their time with the next iteration of the Steam Deck. I friggin love my OLED more than anything else I’ve ever owned tech and gaming-wise. The only reason I’d buy something else, including the next Deck, is if it keeps or improves on all the things it has now (solid price, long battery life, high refresh OLED screen, comfortable ergonomics, amazing support and optimizations on games, etc.) while also making a solid jump in performance, which doesn’t seem like exists at the moment or even in the near future. To be more straightforward, the price to performance of the Ally, Go, and Claw are not enough to sway me from the Deck. I wouldn’t throw down money for a new system if that was the only jump in performance (especially giving that the battery on these is worse than the OLED Deck, which is something I wouldn’t want to sacrifice). I think it would be a solid investment for someone to go for the mid-tier OLED Deck right now. At $585 (after tax and shipping), I really don’t know how anything else that compares in the handheld market, unless you really want a Windows device. Still, I’m excited and looking forward to the competition and future of handheld systems.
I would recommend if you scroll all the way down on the page where it says the options they have the 64 GB and one still and I would recommend just buying a SSD. It’s what I did.
If I could finance / split pay in Canada direct from steam, I would. Can do this through Amazon, but it's all third party sellers, running the risk of getting a different cheaper model than ordered, and paying more.
I just bought one and waiting for it to be shipped! So excited :D (i dont care about newest TRIPLE A Games - i got an XBOX Series X for it)! Can't wait for checking older games while in bed :D
Just open up the system and upgrade the SSD. The Micro SD card will suffer SOME performance loss. Be it more stutters, longer loading or a small fps drop. A small drop doesnt sound bad but a game thats running at 33fps needs as much extra headroom for a stable lock as possible.
It's still an impressive handheld. The more powerful steam deck "killers" get lost and forgotten over time. It's basically a portable PS4 but fanboys of the other systems act like it's only good for switch and mobile type games which is ridiculous.
It is a little washed out I've compared them. I have an OLED 512 and used it in public transit during day time without any issue. I Turn up the brightness and tilt the screen a little so any reflections do not get reflected back at me. OLED screens have awesome view angles.
I think the anti-glare is fine, it doesn't seem too washed out to me. Though honestly I'd recommend just getting an anti-glare screen protector, they're ridiculously cheap compared to anti-glare steam Deck models, and also way easier to replace as well.
i was not wanting to pay for the oled or an extra 200 for storage so i picked up the 64 gig version because it was the cheapest at $350. i just upgraded the ssd with a sabrent rocket 512 gig for an extra 65 bucks and i now have a 512 gig steam deck that costed a total of $430 instead of $550.
all the games i play are mainly indies so they dont take up much storage. the largest game i have is only 74 gigs. i recommend just buying the 64gig lcd and just upgrading the ssd or using a micro sd card.
@@pobbityboppity1110 i was honestly too broke to get it. if i had the money at the time i would have went oled. i recommend the lcd on a budget. i know i missed out on a few features like a 90hertz oled screen and longer battery life but i honestly dont think i need the deeper balcks and higher brightness. the brightness of the lcd is already too much for me.

What a lot of reviewers leave out about windows vs Linux (SteamOS) is windows is demanding. Linux/SteamOS is a substantially lighter OS using less ram and not tracking everything single thing your doing. Also windows is doing so many things in the background.
It's weird on the OS side because it's kind of the opposite of something like iOS vs Android. Normally the convenience "it just works" choice is associated with the locked-down proprietary system, while the techier more hardcore choice (but less convenient) will be something more open. Here we have the opposite, and the replacement apps on the alternative handhelds look like the kind of janky free apps made by enthusiasts instead of by big companies for big dollars. That's not a good place for Microsoft to be in.
I would never advise anyone getting a Steam Deck (I have one and its awesome but...), until Steam sells undefective units or allows iFixit to sell button/daughter boards. The bumpers stop working right after warrantee expires and they refuse to let you fix it yourself and if you just return it to Valve it will take months and they won't even send you back your same unit...no thanks.
My biggest question (bevor watching the video, maybe i get a answer): Is it easy to get the xbox pass on the steam deck? This would be a big point for buying or not.
Without installing Windows the answer is no, you can setup X cloud so you can stream games but thats only available for Gamepass ultimate. If you want Gamepass games on a handheld directly like I did, get another device, I have a ROG Ally Z1 Extreme model, I like it but Asus have been pretty bad recently with RMA issues so check what ASUS are like in your country before considering buying anything from them.
Even then is still say go with steamdeck. Installing windows edge to play gamepass isn’t all that difficult, and there are step by step guides to get it done without any issues
@@HappyDrunkGamer How is the rog ally with the game pass games? I have been thinking of buying it since u have more freedom with windows. I was thinking of playing game pass games and games from epic games launcher.
This was a great vid. I actually have been debating on getting a steam deck. Maybe I’ll ask for this as a Father’s Day gift or bday gift. Lol! Random question though did you ever try out the Playdate handheld?
If Nintendo switch can stay with the same hardware for 7 years, Steam Deck is in no means of ever being pressure to release a new Steam Deck any time soon. If Steam Deck were to add the z1 Extreme, they are the favorites to win even if ASUS came out with a z2 extreme. Steam Deck OS is very stable and does not require much power vs Windows 11 OS which constant have issues due to updates or random BSOD.
I can't afford to get a somewhat decent gaming computer for my daughter since I'd have to spend $1,200 - $1,500, from what I see. Is this a good replacement just for gaming? She likes to play games like Overwatch, Minecraft, Genshin Impact, and other games like that. I would think the steam deck is optimized for games available on steam, but has anyone experienced lagging on these? Also, are most steam games compatible with the Steam Deck? I do like how you can get the dock to present the game on a monitor or tv.
Who cares about Valve releasing new hardware? Advancement is a good thing and it doesn't make the current deck any less good at what it does. Don't let speculation about the future influence your decision to get a deck.
one thing you for some reason didn't mention is that even the most expensive model of the Steam Deck is significantly cheaper than the competitors. And also the fact that Steam has made a lot of the games on its store specifically Deck compatible, which Asus and Lenovo obviously cannot and did not do.
I'd argue the viewing angles are more important on a portable device since sometimes you have to angle it away from glares and/or just for comfort of how you're holding it.
For the people outside the industry that think that Valve would feel the need to rush when the competition gets better...... Very clearly have no idea how Valve works..... Just as an example, their critically acclaimed game series Half Life has the entry Half Life 2: Episode 2 which was released back in 2007 and the events and story ended on a MAJOR cliffhanger...... Episode 3 was anticipated for years... Then that turned into a decade.... Then Half Life: Alyx was released..... Not episode 3, a prequel to Half Life 2, which also acknowledges the cliffhanger ending of Episode 2 which means Valve was well aware of the existance of their own game series.... And yet it took them 13 years to make this prequel with a semi-sequel-esk moment............. Valve is never and never will be in a rush to release new hardware just to catch up with the competition.... Lord Gaben is in his own pocket dimension with Valve and they're too busy making millions every other second to be even remotely bothered by what the other guys are doing with their own hardware.....

I am waiting for Steam Deck 2 & switch 2 on 2025
If Nintendo arent rushing to make a Switch 2, why would Valve try to reinvent the wheel so soon? Theres still time for tech to develop and to aid upcoming handhelds.
64gb on sale now for under $300. Just swap out 1tb ssd($50-eBay) very easy to do and well worth it.
Pretty much what I did. Also the 512 LCD same price as the 256 LCD. Pretty good deal regardless if you ask me
I play on PS5 and PC mostly, but dayum, my Steam Deck is my buddy for ANY type of flights or train rides.
Why u lyin,u cannot use the money on your steam acc to buy the steam deck i tried it....
@@Paladinshqipe No lie. In the United States this is an option. Perhaps thats not the case elsewhere?
@@ctjpierce damn sorry i saif u lied was drunk and i insta judged lool
Did the same with my Switch and PS5 🤣. Miss em a little bit, but the trade off was totally worth it. One library, most games, almost anywhere. If Nintendo cared about making pc ports, it’d be perfect, but we know how that goes…
@@ZAIBYRNintendo would be digging their grave to make PC ports. Nobody would buy their consoles. Just emulate them 😒
Steam has the LCDs on sale on their website until the 25th. So tempted to grab the 512 GB for $336.75.
I went back and forth all day after wanting one for a while. I ended up buying the 512. Its a great deal right now.
Which games are you talking about? Just multiplayer games that have anti cheat? Or are you talking about something else?
In testing it’s hardly been called much more powerful than the steamdeck, a little more powerful, but you might be exaggerating a bit. It only really reached that point with the overlock mode, which kills the battery way too fast to be practical in many situations.
Edit: also, having the track pads are really nice. Some games benefit from them a ton
I recommend Dual booting with bazziteOS. It will make the Ally feel more deck like
Valves customer service is trash
Ah yes the steam deck I have one and it's absolutely mind blowing how you can carry your steam games on the go 😁
Love my OLED one and that was upgraded from the original LCD versions. If you want a good handheld with god support then I personally wouldn't by from anyone else except from Valve.
In my region, the steam deck oled costs 300$ more than its original price. So, lcd is the only option
Just pulled the trigger on the phase out sale for the 512gb lcd SD. Very excited.
I'm still happy with mine.
Just purchased the 512gb lcd screen steam deck
me too!!
I second that, since getting mine I barely touch my PS5 and Switch. I'm just upset I didn't get one earlier
@@punch6482 My PC had just been collecting dust. I don’t care too much for multiplayer games anymore but to play a bunch of indies, emulators and ps4/xbox one era games is nothing short of amazing. I’m glad you’re enjoying yours too man!
Got a refurbished 64 gb lcd steam deck from gamestop for 278 bucks. Half the price of what i paid for my ps5 which is a paper weight at this point
Got my deck oled 1tb few days back, this shit crazy omfg so powerful i love it!!
The next steam sale starts June 27th 2024. I'm going to buy the 1TB model then. Last year the top range LCD model had 20% off.
same i hope it goes on sale
Nice I’ll just wait one more week
My mom bought one kislux and she loves it. It had been there for over 10 years when she went out with it.
Hopefully they make a new one that will be able to support GTA 6 the amount of sales they would have would be crazy
I'd say wait, because the new AMD Strix APU's are going to disrupt everything.
What game are you playing @ 1:49? Almost looks like Quake and Minecraft had a baby lol
Dude I've been contemplating this for months, thanks for your input!
Did you pull the trigger yet? I've been mulling it over too. I want to sell my PS5 and Switch for this. Worth it?
Tbh selling the switch isnt a bad idea for this. The switch 2 should be coming late next year already@WaldoBagelTopper
Just got a steam deck recently, it's easily the best purchase I made in recent years and I couldn't recommend one more. I have been missing out!
Better help? Ugh
I'm gonna buy the Rog Ally X, I'm glad I just discovered these devices during the current round of updates!
I'm debating between the ROG Ally X or Steamdeck OLED.
The steamdeck oled is the better buy using Linux runs better over windows since it's not equipped for mobile plus it has issues weaker battery and currently asus may be under investigation for warranty issues so I'd say get the 1tb oled steamdeck
oled ez
Ally X would be my choice unless you really want the Deck for specific things like using Steam only
@@animefrasier Battery should be better as it's 80whr vs 50whr.
I just ordered the 1 TB OLED, but I plan to play the Sims 2 and a very highly modded Sims 4 on my steam deck.
The better viewing angle helps a lot when you're using the gyro aiming. I use gyro/touchpad a lot when I'm FPS gaming.
Yeah I can’t with Better Help.
The only problem for me is i have to buy it through reseller which makes the price a lot higher than it should be
I'm thinking about getting one. I still play on a gtx1650 laptop and would like to change things up as I'm starting to ne on the go more.
It’s not, bought in February and enjoy it every day.
Already got the Switch. I think most of my steam library is better on pc or laptop too.
What i like about the steam deck is the fact that you could dock it to your monitor
current apus are soo slow playing on 720p low with FPR is a stupid idea
The masses want a steam deck that we can connect a quest 3 headset to, and be able to download games to the deck to play them in VR.
I owned a oled and it was amazing but I couldn't play the games I liked
You REALLY should've touched on repairability. That's a major thing with the Steam Deck.
I’ll get the 512gb Oled at Black Friday
I love my Steam Deck but after getting an Ally I haven’t had a reason to use the Deck anymore
Thanks for the video. Wondering about the OLED anti-glare vs. regular screen. Some have said the anti-glare is a bit washed out. Thoughts and thanks
You missed out not getting the OLED. I regret not upgrading.
YES! It's so good for emulation alone!
Also you still can run big game at high power by buy a membership or free GeForce Now
Guys, been looking for a good handheld for so long cuz wanted to play older ps2 games. Did a TON of research and vid watching. Got an Ayn Odin 2 cuz of how great it is for emulation.
This love grew, into what if I could emulate old stuff and play some backlog pc stuff all in one device (i travel a lot)
Have recently gotten my steam deck and had for like 3 weeks now. it is DEFINIETLY worth it even tho i was NOT a beleiver at first at all. Like why would I want a pc handheld when i play my pc with kb n m inputs. I was wrong, ded wrong, i play games amazing for controller on it that i dont typically play on my PC
Here to say if ur on the fence or a non believer, and its within ur means, stop hesitating, go for it, it is so worth it, im super impressed and I have the 512gb OLED model and its... beautiful
Thanks for reading, sorry for long comment, hope this helps if someone is thinking about it and not sure yet.
Which one is better for emulation?
It takes 5 minutes to set it up through using edge browser and adding it to steam library. Only xcloud
Even then is still say go with steamdeck. Installing windows edge to play gamepass isn’t all that difficult, and there are step by step guides to get it done without any issues
@@tetchedskate3366 U need it to be a windows system to u can play xbox game pass games form what people say, since its Microsoft, it requires windows.
@@HappyDrunkGamer How is the rog ally with the game pass games? I have been thinking of buying it since u have more freedom with windows. I was thinking of playing game pass games and games from epic games launcher.
2:39 whichever frame rate you choose, The latency can be cut by double or triple.
If you want a Steam OS experience (and don't want to dual boot Steam OS itself) just run Steam in Big Picture mode. It's 95% the same thing.
steamdeck is the GOAT of the handhelds!
Looking like second half of 2026 for Steam Deck 2, so yeah it’s still worth it to pick one up
I'd argue the viewing angles are more important on a portable device since sometimes you have to angle it away from glares and/or just for comfort of how you're holding it.
