    Only the headlight puts me off - Honda understandably share components with their other bikes, but given this is an adventure style bike, I think they could've shared the headlight with the Africa Twin for a far more interesting and road presence appeal, rather than the Hornet and CB500 range light.

    Have to agree with Nick looks much better in person , much more substantial bike than i thought. For me it was slightly over my budget together with the extras i would like. Normally find adventure bikes too high but felt comfortable with one foot firmly down, not too top heavy like the AT. Enjoyed the vid as always, cheers for sharing

    Hi Steve,
    just checking through my subs list and discovered that I hadn't watched this one yet !
    A very nice chat about a very nice bike by two very nice blokes, if I may be so bold 🤗
    I really like the current Transalp and could see myself getting one, if I ever started doing a bit of touring.
    I'd rather have something like this, with a bit of trail riding capability, than some touring behemoth.
    This would be a very competent touring machine but you could also explore the odd interesting looking trail on your travels. I like it a lot.
    One of these for touring, Buddy for Sunday rides locally and Norman for throwing at the mountain scenery.
    I think that would probably be my dream garage.
    But there's no point in me spending all that money on a Transalp at the moment because I wouldn't get enough use out of it, unfortunately.
    But if my circumstances were to change and touring holidays became a thing, I'd absolutely love one 🥰
    Thanks to you both for an informative chat.
    Love from Spain to the Exmouth posse,
    El Outro and Robbie

    • @economicalrides
      @economicalrides 5 месяцев назад

      @@exeterrider Hi Dave,
      no, if I ever spent that kind of money on a new bike, there is NO WAY I would be taking it on the rough trails I'm riding at the moment. Maybe the odd easier one but that would be it. For everything else I would keep Norman. Norman is going to be my crashy bike. For me the Transalp would be a precious object. There is no way I would want to risk dropping it. I just couldn't get into that way of thinking 🤗
      It would be a lovely bike for doing journeys on though and maybe the odd light trail with low risk of crashing.
      Have a good Christmas yourself Steve, much love to the Exmouth crew.
      Apparently we're going to my Mum's for Christmas dinner and there will be "pigs in blankets". Ruby said she doesn't need the blankets, just the pigs 😂
      Cheers Steve,
      El Outro and Rupert

    • @exeterrider
      @exeterrider  5 месяцев назад +1

      @@economicalrides Thats the "rub" isn't it....alot of money on a bike that handles off-road work quite well but its to expense to pay for a new side panel or handle bars......Royal Enfield are amazing for that issue.

    • @economicalrides
      @economicalrides 5 месяцев назад

      @@exeterrider Yes. I find these cheaper bikes really quite liberating in that way. I know that a drop for Buddy or Norman is not going to be that expensive to fix. I think you can get a ready painted tank for Buddy for €300 for instance.
      Obviously crash guards are good and Norman is quite well protected against drops but it makes me more relaxed about using the bikes when I know that I can afford to get them put back to like new condition, should I ever suffer a "dropsy" and decide that I can't live with the resultant damage.
      I think that these days I'd be terrified riding a more expensive bike, even terrified to leave it anywhere. Nicer bikes are lovely and all that but I probably enjoy my cheaper ones more, simply because there is a lot less to stress about with them.
      But then you know that yourself of course. You're constantly worrying that your BMW is going to get expensive on you 😬
      That sort of thing does eat into the enjoyment of owning and using a bike.
      Nah, I think I'll stick with the cheapo ones, even though I would like something nicer as a bit of a toy from time to time. Trouble is, the costs are all of the time, not just from time to time, so hard for me to justify really.
      Norman and Buddy are delivering plenty of smiles at the moment, so I think I'll stick with them for a while longer !
      Cheers Steve 👍🏻

    Hey Buddy! So, I'm split between getting a pre-owned Tiger 900 Rally Pro (2021/5K kms) and a new Transalp. I know spec-wise they are Oranges and Apples. My riding usage is city and touring; My riding style is pretty Hooliganish. So, here in India (no T7s, Tuaregs or KTM 790/890s here. Even the Honda AT comes in a lowered suspension model) the Tiger 900 Rally is the bike that checks all the boxes. The High Maintainance Costs are the Only Red Flags. So, enter the Transalp: it's light and nimble: makes for a good project bike - rally seats, suspension upgrade etc along with Honda's reliability and affordability. Also, makes for a better Daily Do-it-All. So, What would you suggest?

      I think you said it there at the end... A mate of mine has the tiger 900 pro, amazing to ride but sadly he has so many issues from new he sold it 6months later.... The Transalp is more fun to ride hard as well.... Full review and off road video coming soon. Thanks

      So, I'm pretty close to finalising the nimble Transalp XL 750 (Test-Rode it in Shorts: Cool as a Cat). But at around 16.5K USD (we pay some crazy import taxes) it does seem like a whole lot for its Plain Jane Specs.
      Another bike that has come into the picture is a pre-owned 2019 CRF1000L Africa Twin (fully-loaded and souped up with performance upgrades & accessories) for almost the same price.
      What say??

      @@2-WheelsMoveTheSoul for me the transalp is newer, and the africa twin is a monster of a bike which isn't a bike you will bother to get on with shorter trips but the transalp you would.... Transalp is the winner for me

    Great bike love it, but the rear suspension is not up to the job, now changed to a Hagon unit, transformation, only the tyres are the only limiting factor. Rear wheel converted to tubeless. Karoos are better than Dunlops. Plan to fit electric cruise in the new year.

      @@exeterrider With one average rider and not ridden hard the suspension is plush and fine, but put pushing it to limits and when riding 2 up it s struggles. I just think is a great upgrade to maximise it on the road, Im not an off road rider, but plan to try it.

    For sure your test bike is the best colour, that black is blander than a bland thing... Sorta the new beige.... 😊 Seems an ok sort of bike, I would say that it would be a good tourer but on the dirt? Im not convinced.... I reckon the off road orientated riders will go T7 all day long (just the opinions of an ol' fool!😊)

    • @exeterrider
      @exeterrider  7 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah the T7 is a proper off road jobby BUT I would say it feels out of place on the road. The manners off-road really surprised me handling-wise ,and wish I could have done more with it TBH but 3 weeks was up before I knew it sadly : (

    It was controversial decision in the beginning on Honda's part to replace all v-twins with 270° cranks parallel twins. Specially for the Africa and Transalp, the parallel twin engine frees up a lot of space where the back cylinder would be and that allows for easier and more varied design in this space.. Like the seat position, air box and the overall length of the bike.

    • @exeterrider
      @exeterrider  7 месяцев назад

      Yeap, I like a Vtwin, but the parallels make a lot of sense👍
