Great video as usual. Love every single one of them; very informative. I'll probably stick to ASUS. My current system has a 9 years old ASUS Z-87 motherboard (with a SAPPHIRE TRI-X R9 290X GPU) , and still works like a charm (of course I can't run some games anymore). In the past I also had Asrock and Gigabyte motherboards, but of none of them lasted this long without any issues. I'm going to wait a little bit for the Ryzen 7000 X3D CPU's, and then I will probably go for the ASUS ROG Strix B650E-F (maybe with another Sapphire GPU :-)). I like the Audio on this board and I feel it's a bit more future proof than some other boards. I also don't need the excessive connectivity of a X670E board or the second GPU slot on some boards. And in general, in my personal experience the ASUS boards are more durable and stable. Numbers are important to me, but building quality even more. So yes, I am one of those ASUS fanboys :-)
Whoa Im in a very similar boat, my setup is about 11 years old and has an Asus P8P67-Deluxe with an MSI R9 280X and Ive been very satisfied with the longevity of my Asus motherboard. Ive also had my eye on an ASUS ROG Strix B650E-F (we might be spirit bros lol j/k) however Jason doesnt seem to think that PCIe 5 is a big deal at this point but Im hoping this board will future proof enough to last another 7+ years. Im still undecided about the cpu and was looking at the X3D cpu's as well but the 7900 (non X) seems to be a pretty good value now that they have launched. Even though my last GPU was an MSI I went back with an ASUS gpu this time but no matter the choices I fully expect at least 1 upgrade to the GPU and CPU in it's lifecycle and Im fine with that assuming I dont have to upgrade motherboard and RAM on top. Cheers.
Same here. i5 4440 and Asus B85M-E. Still working perfectly with alot of miles on it; my pc is on for almost 24/7. This is the reason I most surely want to go with ASUS board again for AM5. I'd like to go with the TUF board in combination with 7600(non x) but need to do more research on it.
Thanks Jason! Any chance you could begin uploading in 4K resolution? Your videos are top notch and I think the extra resolution and clarity would really help add to the production quality of your content. Keep up the great work!
I just looked at the Australian prices for b650 they are ludicrous the average is around 350 Australian kangaroo coins, nuts! We need to hopefully put pressure on these insane prices by simply buying 13th gen intel or a 5800x 3D
Jason, you are the man. Im so glad you show the price vs features. It appears the am5 x670 motherboards are cheaper than am4 x570 motherboards looking at it that way. The gigabyte aorus x570s master is still $279! I've been holding on to this 5900x cpu for months waiting for the price of that motherboard to go down. I should just sell it and cut my losses and move up to the 7900x and new amd platform which now is being used through 2025. Great review on this episode. Thank you again
Hello Jason! Ive been watching you for a few months now and man your videos are so awesome and educational. Have you ever thought about making content about emulation pc (android emu specifically eg: bluestacks, ld player etc and multi instances while at it). Would love to hear from you about what parts to prioritize for them
i just got the b650 aorus elite AX and i did the order while i had ur video open , im cancelling the motherboard to change it for PRO AX version is 20$ difference to get the better audio so yeah thanks a lot man :)
Great summary, Jason. I think you've inspired me to pay more attention to the audio codec on my next board. Presently with ALC892, and I've always wondered if that's the source of an extremely subtle buzzing.
if prices gets better, i've been eyeing on the Asrock B650M PG Riptide. At least this time they added a Bios Flashback feature. Sure wish though they had the Pro series for MATX just like the Pro4 on the AM4. although, i'm a little bit skeptical about the VRM config. But since undervolting would be the best way to go to save power and heat, i don't think that would be a problem.
May as well as get the B650E pg riptide. Asrock is the only one making cheap B650E anyway. Since it cost so much, might as well make it futureproof with PCIE5.
The TUF is honestly not that bad... A lot of gamers out there use a USB amp for headset/microphone, so the audio drivers aren't the end of the world. 3 M.2 slots, a 10 GB USB-C and a 20 GB USB-C, and for me, personally, I'm using a USB interface for all my audio so the built in audio drivers aren't even a factor. 8+4 CPU power connectors, and one of the biggest VRM heatsinks I've seen for the price with built-in I/I shield. Not the most equipped on the USB side, but I only have two USB 3.0 peripherals I use so, again, not a big deal. Then again, only time will tell.
Also on motherboard features I look for; I always want around 4 or so m.2 drives since I love being able to store data, and aesthetics! Can't be out here with an ugly PC
Strange Fact, in my country (Argentina), the MSI TOMAHAWK and the MSI MORTAR have de same price, I think I will take advantage of that and I will go for the tomahawk...
Another amazing value video. If i go with a board it will be the steel legend one. Not cause i have one of the same brand in my current pc but i feel its best bang for buck right now for higher end stuff. Thanks for the great info cause i dont know much about boards. Likely gonna go with the Gigabyte AERO. love the look of it and it will complete the aesthetic I'm going for with my new build. glad to see it in the video and thanks for all the great info as always!!
Liking this video so it doesn't get overshadowed by the 4090 reviews. When I upgrade to a Ryzen x3D chip. I'll definitely be eyeing an Asus Crosshair Hero or the Strix (which seems to be the new Hero pricing wise).

I bought a Proart X570 creator the last time I built and I believe it is the best motherboard I have ever purchased . Has all off the good features and stable overclocking as well . The most I ever spent before that was in the 200 dollar range . I guess you sometimes get what you pay for ... but almost never get more than you paid for ? LoL !!
Awesome video Jason - the motherboard on my Dell Optiplex 9020 recently blew so posted at just the right time! Looking at building up a new PC on a whole new platform. Probably going to base it around a B650E-F Rog Strix with a 7600X and a Fractal Design Meshify 2 Compact. Should give me scope to upgrade within the lifecycle of AM5!
could you maybe make a video about sound cards for good audio for the bad audio mainboards ? would be appreciated, because i always wonder what they would do with sound quality. :)
Just a stranger on the internet opinion: Gaming - either Sound BlasterX G6 or Schiit Hel 2e (both have mic in) Non-gaming DAC/AMP combo - DX3 Pro+ Or, as he noted, a USB headset also has a built in DAC. The PC38x headset is well reviewed.
Thanks for another great an informative Video. Looking forward to building my new system and this helped a lot. might be holding out for an X3d processor!
Now that i ended up with my buying, and soon building my first pc, i guess i can learn from my mistake and take your knowledge to plan for an upgrade before time and waiting for the deals wisely. Greets man
i really like the design of the NZXT N7 B 650E boards. unfortunately, german retailers charge a €80 premium once again. (€430 - and out of stock everywhere)
I just bought 7700x and the b650e aorus master, I was going to go intel but I didn't want to buy another whole platform next year again. I really wish intel would start supporting more than 2 years at a time
Thanks for these videos! They're fun and informative. I'm looking to do a partial rebuild of my existing 5 year old gaming desktop. Currently, MSI Z490 WiFi Gaming Edge MB with i9-10 series CPU and AMD RX6800XT. I want to switch over to a current generation AMD CPU and board. Still dialing it in but looking closely at an MSI MPG. Your videos help the decision process a lot.
Thanks, a lot Jason for taking the time to create all those great videos for the community...👍My concern is maybe I missed out something. Is the AMD Ryzen 5900 compatible with the new AM5 Socket Motherboards? Thanks for any info on that.
Each video you put out is so fucking perfect! I feel like I can send your videos to even the most non-technical people and even they will take a great buying decision. Keep up the great work!
I love the emphasis on audio codecs. As someone with an external dac/amp hooked up, I am wondering how the recommendations for midrange boards would differ
@@PCBuilderChannel It really was, so thanks for making your content! My original question however was perhaps poorly phrased. I was wondering given that I probably will never use the onboard audio, would your recommendations differ in any way (such as perhaps recommending the TUF series of motherboards). Don't feel compelled to respond as I was simply curious
You won't need the on board audio and will need the USB port for external audio. Your dac/amp uses USB 2.0? Ignore the analog 3.5mm jacks on the IO shield.
@@gamedoutgamer Yeah, I've had my dac/amp for several years now and plug my headphones directly into its 4.4 mm Pentaconn jack. My current PC was built in 2009 so I'm overdue for an upgrade. I asked because I wanted to see if there were other better value propositions given I don't anticipate using any motherboard-based audio solution.
#1. USB 3.2 Gen 2 Back Panel Ports Type A, ( 2x2 type C draws persuasion as well after 3-4 type A's), #2 PCIE gen 5 on video card slot ( may not be fully usable but get something for money spent to ensure Top data transfers) #3. PCIE gen 5 M.2 slot, #4 wifi, then comparisons of VRM & audio codecs. I do not overclock. Looking for affordable ( under $200) AM5 board that meets 3.2 gen 2 back ports is hard to find
This was of considerable interest. Thank you. Would have watched it right to the end as well, and enjoyed it more, if you had spoken a bit slower. Seems almost all of these videos have frantic authors. Don’t understand why.
The GIGABYTE B650 AORUS ELITE AX wasnt mentioned, would you say its a good micro atx motherboard. Or would the MSI varient be better in terms of audio and power delivery performance?
Great video, and great style. New subscriber here... One thing that you keep mentioning is that the PCIe5 is not really meaningful so consider the B650 MoBos. That said, when will it become meaningful? I'm wondering if the next video cards after the 40X0 and 7900XT series will need it. Why else would AMD push this standard out if they never planned to use it? I know NVMes will use it first, but when will the video cards use it?

Always LOVE your videos. Thanks for the insights! Would be nice to see you think about us creators/productivity users out there. I'm a wedding photographer/videographer and some of the most important things I look for in a mobo is 6 sata ports (Yes, I use them all), at least 10 FAST USB ports (why are they STILL using USB 2.0?) once again, yes I use all 10, 2 USB 3.0 headers and 4 M.2 slots. What mobo would you recommend for us? I'm leaning towards the MSI MPG X670E CARBON WIFI.

Hi Jason, thanks so much for your in depth reviews and advice. I'm putting together a reasonably priced upgrade to my pc by selecting AMD Ryzen 7600x chip and either ATX 3070 ti GPU or Radeon RX 6700 XT and a bit overwhelmed by choice in the motherboard section. Bearing in mind I don't need a pcie 5 slot, what would be a decent board that is in keeping with my pricepoint but also doesn't hinder the compatibility of my parts? Thanks in advance. Nick
@3:06 I was literly on another web looking for a motherboard with two gen 5 m.2 slots and one pcie 5.0 16x. So I can raid zero two gen5 nvme drives and have the bandwith to feed a gpu for ai work loads. faster storage = more better.
I'm gonna cross my fingers on the ASUS B650-I, has all I need for my ITX build, though some customers reported lots of coil whine on idle from their examples even after getting replacement. One of our retailers had like 5+ of the same board returned within the first few months. But there are so few ITX boards for AM5, I don't want to break my build's all-black aesthetic with the white MSI Edge, and I don't trust AsRock.

What motherboards are you looking at? What motherboard features matter most to you and why?
Usb4 and a lot of usbA
Gigabyte only had b650e aorus master, rest are b650 /cough wrong description
I think the heatsinks are important for vrms and m.2s and the look overall, I don’t really care for the entry audio
B659e aorus master or x670e steel legend as the steel legend is nearly 50 to 80 bucks cheaper or 5000rupees inr
I suspect this will happen more than once to us all this generation. It is just too easy to get that wrong this time.

Watched your video for the Z690 and Z790. And now found you again! Thanks for the great work!
Glad you found us! Thanks for watching
Oooh! B series is out! So exciting! I clicked so fast!!
Thank you for the video! 😸
Hi Valentina! Hope its helpful!
Thanks Jason! Any chance you could begin uploading in 4K resolution? Your videos are top notch and I think the extra resolution and clarity would really help add to the production quality of your content. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the feedback! We have talked about going that route in the near future.
I just looked at the Australian prices for b650 they are ludicrous the average is around 350 Australian kangaroo coins, nuts!
We need to hopefully put pressure on these insane prices by simply buying 13th gen intel or a 5800x 3D
I happened to find the GIGABYTE B650I AORUS ULTRA at Newegg for $188, what a steal for my new ITX build!
Thanks a lot for ths one! Was completely lost in ITX motherboard options. You made it super clear!
Glad it helped!
Good and thorough as always.
And thanks for touching mATX and especially mITX!
Hello Jason! Ive been watching you for a few months now and man your videos are so awesome and educational. Have you ever thought about making content about emulation pc (android emu specifically eg: bluestacks, ld player etc and multi instances while at it). Would love to hear from you about what parts to prioritize for them
Hello! So glad you have been enjoying. I haven't! Perhaps someday (:
Thank you for actually replying. You are awesome
Ryzen/Radeon for life ❤ I’ve never had a bad experience with any of there products. Great video by the way 👍
Hey Bob Odenkirk!
I had no idea you also made youtube videos!! That makes me admire you even more!!!
You are my favorite actor of all time
i just got the b650 aorus elite AX and i did the order while i had ur video open , im cancelling the motherboard to change it for PRO AX version is 20$ difference to get the better audio so yeah thanks a lot man :)
The ASUS ROG STRIX B650E-F was part of a bundle I recently purchased and it's great so far! #TeamROG #TeamSTRIX
Great summary, Jason. I think you've inspired me to pay more attention to the audio codec on my next board. Presently with ALC892, and I've always wondered if that's the source of an extremely subtle buzzing.
Those cheap ALC8xx doesn't have audio shields.
When I first starting watching ur videos I said good tech channel but now lol u one of the best tech channel😊
Thanks for watching and your support! Happy to have you :)
if prices gets better, i've been eyeing on the Asrock B650M PG Riptide. At least this time they added a Bios Flashback feature. Sure wish though they had the Pro series for MATX just like the Pro4 on the AM4. although, i'm a little bit skeptical about the VRM config. But since undervolting would be the best way to go to save power and heat, i don't think that would be a problem.
Sounds like a plan! Hope those prices drop soon.
May as well as get the B650E pg riptide. Asrock is the only one making cheap B650E anyway. Since it cost so much, might as well make it futureproof with PCIE5.
Covered everything, now I’m up to day and putting things on my Amazon list.! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
THANKKKSSS MANNNN! So close to finishing my build, just have to pick storage and PSU! Best channel to watch as an indecisive buyer 😅😅😅
Also on motherboard features I look for; I always want around 4 or so m.2 drives since I love being able to store data, and aesthetics! Can't be out here with an ugly PC
So glad we can help! And if you are going Ryzen 7000 we have build guides for 7600X (which Id use for 7700X too) and 7900X if those are helpful!
Would love to see more comprehensive information about motherboards from you in general. As in how they exactly operate.
Finally the video I was waiting for Thanks much!!!
Glad you like it! :)
@@PCBuilderChannel I literally refreshed ur channel 100s of times today for this exact vid XD, super confused on what board to go for with the 7900x
This video was incredible, I never knew or heard anybody mention what ALC was for years xD.
So glad you enjoyed it! And thank you for watching!
Another great video from PC Builder! I learned alot of just watching your video's and I also like it that you ask question to you public and that you leave a comment behind! Much appreciation 😁
Likely gonna go with the Gigabyte AERO. love the look of it and it will complete the aesthetic I'm going for with my new build. glad to see it in the video and thanks for all the great info as always!!
Nice! Best of luck with your build, glad you enjoyed the video!
Liking this video so it doesn't get overshadowed by the 4090 reviews.
When I upgrade to a Ryzen x3D chip. I'll definitely be eyeing an Asus Crosshair Hero or the Strix (which seems to be the new Hero pricing wise).
Appreciate the like!!
great video as always brother. it's great you are doing videos on the motherboards. I really want to see the higher end boards so hopefully you can do some reviews on them. looking forward to the next video
Glad you enjoyed! And we do cover our current picks for premium boards at the end of the recommendations so check those out for now!
I just found your channel and I'm instantly subbed. You're saving me so much money LMAO - yet I'm ending up with a better PC than I would have without.
Glad you found us! Thank you for the sub
Awesome guide, breaking down all the confusion. Good stuff!!
Glad it helped! Thank you for watching. Do us a favor and hit that like button to tell youtube to share the video!
my question is answered quickly and directly regarding Pcl 5!
Thank you!
So glad we could help!
LoL !!
I miss that enthusiastic " Hi, i´m Jason "... But still love the video.
Oh no! I'll try to work that back in. Glad you enjoyed the video! (:
Awesome video Jason - the motherboard on my Dell Optiplex 9020 recently blew so posted at just the right time! Looking at building up a new PC on a whole new platform. Probably going to base it around a B650E-F Rog Strix with a 7600X and a Fractal Design Meshify 2 Compact. Should give me scope to upgrade within the lifecycle of AM5!
Sounds like a plan!
Probably going for the same motherboard (and case :-)).
Just got the 7700x. I plan to go with the same motherboard and case as you.
could you maybe make a video about sound cards for good audio for the bad audio mainboards ? would be appreciated, because i always wonder what they would do with sound quality. :)
Just a stranger on the internet opinion:
Gaming - either Sound BlasterX G6 or Schiit Hel 2e (both have mic in)
Non-gaming DAC/AMP combo - DX3 Pro+
Or, as he noted, a USB headset also has a built in DAC. The PC38x headset is well reviewed.
@@assessingearth9815 thanks 🙏 will look into it
Thanks for the info on AM5 MBs. I will be keeping an eye on prices and any fixes, bios, that will probably happen down the road.
Glad we could help!
Thanks for another great an informative Video.
Looking forward to building my new system and this helped a lot.
might be holding out for an X3d processor!
Glad it helped!!
Now that i ended up with my buying, and soon building my first pc, i guess i can learn from my mistake and take your knowledge to plan for an upgrade before time and waiting for the deals wisely. Greets man
Hello! Glad we can help!
Nobody did this yet except this channel, thanks sir
Hope it was helpful!
The entry and budget levels you recommended are exactly what I had in mind to choose from as well (eventually).
So glad we could help!
Not thinking of upgrading at all but I like watching your informative videos🤙
I appreciate that! Hope you enjoyed!
i really like the design of the NZXT N7 B 650E boards. unfortunately, german retailers charge a €80 premium once again. (€430 - and out of stock everywhere)
I just bought 7700x and the b650e aorus master, I was going to go intel but I didn't want to buy another whole platform next year again. I really wish intel would start supporting more than 2 years at a time
Glad you got what you need!
Glad I could help!
Thanks, a lot Jason for taking the time to create all those great videos for the community...👍My concern is maybe I missed out something. Is the AMD Ryzen 5900 compatible with the new AM5 Socket Motherboards? Thanks for any info on that.
Hello! It is not, for that you'll want our Best Ryzen Motherboard 2022 video (it covers Ryzen 5000).
Thank you for the info! I just bought the Lightning PG for my new build.
Best wishes on your build!
Thank you, bookmarked this, will be building this November/December 2023 once intel/amd introduce next cpu.
Exciting! Best wishes on your build!!
thank you immensely, found the best priced reliable bord for me in my country, in my case, the white ASUS at 15:15
You're very welcome, glad it worked out! And thanks for watching :D
Each video you put out is so fucking perfect!
I feel like I can send your videos to even the most non-technical people and even they will take a great buying decision.
Keep up the great work!
That's amazing feedback thank you!!
Thanks for introducing the ASRock boards.
I love the emphasis on audio codecs. As someone with an external dac/amp hooked up, I am wondering how the recommendations for midrange boards would differ
External is better. No static issues unlike internal
Glad it was helpful!
Great video, I learnt everything I needed to about the new AM5 socket and board choices. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching
How does Taichi not come on this list at all for high end? I've used those on all my builds the last 5 years and they have all been solid.
This was of considerable interest. Thank you. Would have watched it right to the end as well, and enjoyed it more, if you had spoken a bit slower. Seems almost all of these videos have frantic authors. Don’t understand why.
Thanks for the feedback, glad you enjoyed
I went with the Asus strix b650-a, for 250$, went down from 350$ from last week and made a good deal on this. Prices here are not the same as US :(
Paired with 64gb g skill 6000mzh cl30 ram, and a 7800x3d. should pair well together me thinks.
Hope your vacation went well, food looked awesome!
Nice!
Thank you, it was a lot of fun (:
More great info. Thanks for this. It is tempting me to build a new pc.
Gonna check out the AsRock B650M PG Riptide you mentioned after TWICE having to return the similarly priced Gigabyte B650M DS3H to Best Buy. Both of them DOA.
Frustrating!!
That was so informative, thanks man and keep the good work and quality.
Thank you so much! Appreciate it. Do me a favor and hit the like button on the video if you can, helps youtube know to share the video!
@@PCBuilderChannel You can count on it my man
I just bought the ASUS ROG STRIX B650E-E board just for the peace of mind of maybe sometime taking the 5.0 bump on things. I'm coming from a 4770K so as you can tell I plan on holding onto this thing for a looong time and just worry about my GPU going forward.
Great video as usual. I'm looking forward to your review of the best Air Coolers for AM5. I have a Ryzen 9 7950x and want to pair it with a GIGABYTE X670 AORUS ELITE AX
Really good video. Exactly what i was looking for and well explained.
Glad it helped!
Awesome video! Extremely helpful. Thank you so much!
So glad you enjoyed! Thank you for watching
Jason THANKS for all your great content, really appreciate learning your knowledge you bless us with. I'm building a 1st build with a budget of 2500, I went over a little. Is there any way you can look at what i'm purchasings before I do something I will regret? Thanks for your time and wisdom.
Hi Jason, first of all great review. Second, you may include info about number of SATA ports. :) Keep on with good work!
Thank you and thanks for the feedback!
Nice vid as usual, what do you think about the MSI Carbon? thanks
We actually have a much more current version! Check out our Best Ryzen Motherboard 2024 video. I recommend the MSI Carbon there
Love your videos: informative and without clowning around
So glad you enjoyed! Thanks for watching
Hi between Asus tuf gaming plus and MSI mortar which b650 is better? I don't really care about the wifi 6.
Great video and easy to understand for first time builders! How about the GPU market update and a 6800 XT budget 4k build?
Thank you so much! That's the goal (:
GPU market update coming soon, waiting to get all the 4090 info. And yes we'll do some sample 4k builds soon! In the meantime check out our Best Builds 2022 video from September. We had some good ones there
B560 B650, tomato-tomahto or dyslexia. I don't judge :) Great video!!! Thanks, helped me buy the right MB!!!
Glad it was helpful! And yes typos abound, darn names too close together!
Bro i love your videos❤️❤️
Was just about to waste my money on expensive boards now after watching your review i have saved upto $200 ❤
Learning and savings--that's what we like to hear! Glad you're enjoying the content :D
Jason these B650 mobos are well over priced, they will come down a lot in price if they want to sell in this financial climate, Great coverage Jason.
Prices are brutal right now! Hoping they correct soon. Glad you enjoyed!
