Probably one of the best videos Ive seen on the subject, been around these cars since the late 80s and everything you say is spot on. What has happened to these cars is a new generation of young enthusiasts are discovering these for the first time and they were raised in a tech age so everything to them has to be some electronic wizardry, remember we went to the moon with computers that didn't have half of our current cellphone capabilities, unless your throwing a huge amount of air/induction into these cars they will run just fine with what they have. Ive always been in the "no tune" camp guy i guess just because i just enjoy my Mustangs and i'm not romping on them all day long or looking to get north of 500 horses,in other words i want them to last and i dont wanna be in a garage every other weekend working on them. If you have a Mustang thats stock and you have a slightly bigger engine and some mods and are just wanting to enjoy it dont go rooting around that computer, leave it be,just a hornets nest waiting to be disturbed, i do believe in widebands specially with mods, they are a valuable tool, nothing make me happier than to see a Mustang like this with a stock airbox, all those cold air kits and underdrive pulleys and ignition boxes are nothing but a gimmick, now if you have the Mario Andretti bug and you like going fast and you have a nice paycheck then by all means go study up on the tunes and the chip and the squirts and buy you a twin turbo setup and take her to the track!!
I have had only 2 Foxbodys. But turned many of wrench on them. U speak truth as always. Back in the day u went HAM with Mods and folks beat on those things soooooo hard. No tune, no failures unless it was completely careless or neglect. Should be zero hate comments or thumbs down, but as u said. This is the internet. Foxbodys 4 Life!
I recently added a vortech blower, hci package 47lbs injectors and a Ted Jenkins custom tune (sct chip)on my stock computer.. car runs great!! Very smooth Drivability. But back in the day on a different fox,i ran the same setup no chip and 30lbs injectors and a fmu and it ran like a freaking champ.
I’m 43 yo and Nobody used to tune these cars back in the day. We/they slapped heads cam intake exhaust BOTTLE you name it. Back then I think hypertech made a chip for these cars just a simple one size fits all prom chip. And there was some good running freaky fast foxes on the street back in the late 80s early 90s BREW speaks the truth you can get away with murder on these old cars and they seem to run great. Like he said unless you start getting real nasty with mods you’ll be fine.
Coming from an experienced tuner Id like to note that the factory EEC is far more capable than anyone can need or want. Myself and plenty others (@neomustngs) have made north of 600 wheel HP on an EECIV box.
Anyone in the St. Louis area. I just found a new tuner in the area that was the best investment I made. This guy is a wizard. My car had been previously tuned by the “mustang guru” in our area and he shit the bed as far as I’m concerned. I wouldn’t recommend that guy to an enemy. Conceded jerkoff that likely cost me an engine that was near $10 large.
A lot of people overlook a properly designed fuel system. Trying to push 255lph pump through tiny lines is asking for trouble. You can always hear a stang with a 255 in the tank. It's loud as hell. Why? Because it's trying to output it's rated flow through tiny lines. This causes cavitation as the lines are the restriction and not the fuel pressure regulator. Then you get a false fuel pressure reading and throw an adjustable fpr on it and now youve screwed the flow rate if the injectors Put in a 155 or a 190 and it's much quieter.
A few years ago I ran a MegaSquirt on a stock 93GT with a 76mm turbo and 60# injectors(to use later on built motor) and it ran great. Several years ago I ran a flip chip on another Foxbody. I've went through more nitrous than most dentist offices use in a lifetime......👍👍
I'm the odd ball of the bunch .. I like my carburator .. but I do have a 87 Lx that's 99% original under the hood and it took me some time to get the fuel injection working right but I got it ... Because it was all original .. but my other 2 foxes were 4 cyl swapped so they got carbs .. my 93 is bout to get a 1971 460 ..
With my old h/c/i fox body I just set the timing to 14 degrees on 19 lb injectors and a fpr! Ran fine no issues swapped to 24lb injectors, pro-m maf, 75mm tb, a 4” Anderson power pipe, long tubes and the car still started up perfect and drove fine! I thought I was going to have issues
The eec-iv is a great computer. Yes it does leave hp on the table no doubt but a huge part of the staying power in popularity of these cars in my opinion is the fact that the adaptive learning lets you buy a pretty damn fast reliable streetable car in your garage without needing a tune.
I used to have a 1990 fox GT with 376, heads and cam. The car always have a miss or skip and it was the ECM, I have a old ECM from a SD mustang and I installed, put a hose to the BAP of the car and run like a dream if I need to get more power took the hose out and plugged and the car run a little rich and transform it self.
You have the best channel for Foxbodys! You cover a wide range of years. I've taken a sitting around 88 GT and now I'm waiting on the weather to finish it. Been in turmoil over untouched stock 5.0........well, it's going to be touched!
Man mine aint self tuning around whats in mine, i built a 331 scat stroker TW 170 heads trick flo stage 1 cam systemax upper and lower, and it had bad surge and would die but after warm up it did fine but i threw a bbk 75mm throttle body on it this weekend and power was absolutely noticeable at lower rpm and takeoff but you cant slow down or it dies immediately, i need some info on a person that can tune the stock computer
I have a homebuilt 331 stroker, canfield heads x303 cam, ported cobra upper and lower , no tune runs and idles good. With help from your base idle reset procedure video
I have aftermarket efi on both of my foxes and love it. My 89 was carbed and I switched it to proflo 4 efi and even mounted the ecu in the stock location. Car runs and drives like a new one. I put the Holley sniper on my 85 and its a winner as well. I like that I can run nitrous or boost with the holley system. The edelbrock system can only run boost as of now. They're supposed to be writing a program for nitrous in the future.
Great video!! You make alot of great points. Tuning has become an obsession to me..the tuning experience for me has been alot of fun and pain lol as ive stated before i have 1993 coupe ive owned since i was 22, im 44 now. If you could go back to the mid 90s to early 2000s and sell these videos they would be the hottest thing since sliced bread. To the younger guys starting out now, watch these videos, the re watch them lol be thankful theyre here. Back in days we had books! Mm&ff was our bible, thats how we learned of new and improved parts were coming out. Ive tried alot of different intakes from ported stock to cartech boxes to my favorite, the explorer.. then i got into nitrous. Best day of my life lol..finally around 2005 i got a set of afr 165 heads, and after many years of beatings the crank snapped in my stock 302. I bought a used motor from a guy added my afr heads, good old e-cam (lol) and my new favortie intake the holley systemax. Ok heres where i should have started but..in early 2006 i bought a new vortech v1 s trim kit from summit. I added 30lb injectors c&l 80mm draw through maf and a 255 lph in tank pump. These kits come ready to run on safely on these cars. The fmu adds the fuel and the msd adjustable retard box allows you to dial in timing. This kit worked good untuned, like stated in the video at wot it ran like a raped ape, but as far as cruising around it had some bucking issues and the ford idling issues. But i tolerated it because it wasnt my daily and i raced it alot so if wot was good i was good. After making and installing an intercooler set up the bucking got so bad..the car got probably 8 miles to the gallon on the interstate. It had a severe tip in problem and would peg 10.0 a/f while cruising down the interstate. So around 2012 i became dead set on getting it tuned..but i am constantly changing the car and i wanted to know everything that was going on, so i bought an aem wideband( a must have) and bought the tweecer r/t tuning hardware and a laptop and jumped right in. The BEST advice i can give on tuning, if you really want to learn it, is read read read, make small adjustments and read some more. Tweecer is complicated to figure out, as in theres alot of adjustments in it and that can lead to more mistakes. You will only use about 30% of the adjustments to dial in a basic 400 to 500hp boosted set up. I fought it for years and my car starts and idles better than it did with just a cam and intake..Gets good gas mileage and has really good drivabiliy..and the 302 is still running good, even after the beating on nitrous then boosted since i installed it in 2004. There are alot of nice entry tuning set ups out there now. I just ordered the terminator x foxbody kit a couple weeks ago, still waiting to receive it..I am gonna through the a9 and tweecer into thw woods when it gets here..i am beyond excited to mess with it. Im already reading on it and i downloaded the software and learning it. Sorry for the long post, but like you said people talk and never have messed with a car in the depths we do.
You hit it, you always need a tune, it’s by far the best way. Without it, it’s hit or miss. How many of these cars have we worked on that ran unbelievably with not much done, and some ran awfully with a tone of stuff!! It hit or miss in those days, today is different, save up and get a tune!! Today I can literally plug up 90hp in seconds on my truck!!! Times have changed!!
This is tuff, for calibrators that know what there doing for foxbody’s specific. A better approach is really understanding the difference from Mass Air then SD tuning systems. Pros and cons, street car drive ability start up ect..mass air all the way in the hands of one experienced. Lack of good tuners in the foxbody world today, maybe lack of passion and time doing so. Great video. Thanks for the share
Holley’s terminator x for foxbodys appears to be a good option and Price is comparable to the megasquirt kit that comes with the wideband that’s on LMR’s website.
Everything above my pistons is aftermarket but still mine sets around 14.7 on the a/f gauge at idle and 11-12 on wot!! As long as maf matches injectors usually your good with stock tune on N/A engines!! A/F gauge take all the guess work out and is a must!!
@@TheJMan1K It's not wired into the pcm!! It has a sensor and a gauge like a typical aftermarket temp or oil gauge!! Screws into the exhaust before the cats!!
Mine is Speed Density, this doesn't apply to me *in my best auctioneer voice* Thanks for calling it an ECU...not a PCM 😂 And you're absolutely correct, several ways to skin a cat..I've learned that a lot👍
The micro is batch fire injector (bank1-bank2) The mega is sequential so it fires the injectors individually. The mega squirt has a lot more you can do with it than the micro hence the price difference.
Hey man love the channel my 86 is running megasquirt 2. I tuned it my self with no experience. I would be happy to help anyone, I went from bucking like a horse to frying the tires in no time🤓. Love megasquirt a (wideband) is a must. Thanks for all your videos 😊😉
I have a 347 NA with 42lb injectors. I had a custom tune by Diablo motorsports but it's on a chip attached to my factory ECU. Can I get a microsquirt and tune it myself?
We got away with murder on these things back in the 90's early 00's on a stock ECU, they're very forgiving. Hci, injectors, pro-m all with factory ECU, maybe a "chip", I've seen guys at 500hp on a stock ECU. That being said, you can always get a little more with a tune. As far as management goes, especially nowadays, I just can't see going with anything other than Holley, for the price you can't beat it.
I got an HCI set up and I'm gonna leave it at that. So far so good. The computer pretty much works it's way around it basically just need to drive it around so the ECU can do it's thing. Now with that being said, I installed a set of thirty pound injectors and it was running a little rich and ruff,at first anyways. Until I got the thirty pound air meter to go with it. Seems to be running, pretty good, but with that I got some issues I need to take care of before I can really get it out and drive it around. But as far as the idle and and running smooth it seems a lot better.
Young Ladd good meter is key! I had a C&L years ago my car would fall flat on its face switched to a pro m and it was like getting into a different car!
Ya that's what it was starting to do, so... I decided to park it until I get the proper meter on it. Had to readjust the pins or really do the pin install to the plug it came with The meter had the oval 89+ plug, where's mine was the square 88. And ya, I got a BBK 73mm meter that I think should work fine as far as my past experiences with their products. I bought an electronic 80mm TB for my 07 expy from them that works great.
@@wesboyd7416 I have a good meter, its an older pmas for 30lbers. Drivabilty isn't bad it only occasionally bucks. 5 speed with 373. Issue is terrible gas mileage. I'm running a lunati 51014 thats retarded for valve clearannce with ported y303 heads.
My brother got away with running a pro M MAF on his blower fox back in 03. I had ran the stinger performance mega squirt on my last fox “turbo car” they have there own support forum page! my current mustang had the aem ems computer when I bought it I’m upgrading to a Holley but the aem I had is currently on eBay plugs right into factory computer. When I got that car I watched hours of instructional videos on building maps and setting up this or that
I just did head cam intake and Vortech Supercharger I taught myself The car ran like crap when I first started it would idle but anything after that it would mess because it didn’t have enough fuel or too much fuel last night finally got the car dialed in 11 pounds of boost with 11.3 AFR
I have been tuning my car with help of others. Having someone you can trust with logging into your computer with a program and remotely tuning with you is great. I was pretty much tuned better then factory with a h c I setup. I noticed more response and power with no changes to parts. The only issue was at idle with cold temps 50’s or below surged a little. I recommend ensuring that your car is running well prior to installing any ecu. I’m now doing on3 kit and have started to setup my tune with a friend. As long as fuel afr and timing tables are conservative you should be good till a dyno tune to get it more aggressive.
I had an 88 speed density car. Headers, and 14 degrees of timing. I ran straight 30 weight castrol as I was concerned about lobe wear. It was my DD for several years, and I beat on the ole gurl hard. 352 representing!
I purchased a Trick flow kit, TFS-K525-432-370, that says the car will need to be turned after installation. Any thoughts on this? How do you update the stock ecu when a new higher # mass air sensor or injectors? Does this require a tune or aftermarket ecu?
My 88 gt is still running a Ford Epec stand alone with a low impedance injector driver. Old school stand alone but it works. I'd like to update it to the squirt or Haltech to get better drivability. Love your videos man. Quality cars and information. Cheers 🍻
So im getting my exhaust done on my foxbody and the guy says it’ll need a tune to run right and after seeing this video I’m kind of torn between it, if somebody here can help me out it would be much appreciated (bbk long tube headers and catted mid pipe, 75mm throttle body, cold air intake, underdrive pulley kit) this is everything I have installed engine wise.
I’m really interested in seeing how the micro squirt works. I’ve heard good stuff about them. Both my foxes are boosted and one has dyno tune with SCT chip and the other has a Pro M EFI ECU. I think one thing I have run across with them both which is important before tuning is making sure there are No Vacuum leaks and that all is in good working order. Otherwise you chase your tail in the tune or end up tuning over top a problem.
Most of the guys that have negative comments are not old enough to have modified these cars when they were new. You didnt have dynos around then like you do now. Pick up an old issue of mm&ff and see how many cars in there had a TUNE....
Hey buddy everything you said is 100% right 👍Once I switched over to Turbo I bought myself a Pro-m management system never Never had to tune it put it in been driving it for five years now making 16 pound 17 pounds of boost Works flawlessly like always it’s always a pleasure to see you making videos and keeping the dream alive good job brother
another great video.. but i can tell you from experience you can get away without having a dyno tune (with a pretty healthy street blower combo)..the addition of a wideband is great.. you can tune the afr by adjusting fuel pressure ..what you gain with a tune is better low rpm driving and fuel economy and then find more power ...adjusting the timing, using a good "recalibrated" mass air and adjusting fuel pressure is all we had back in the day..my combo is a 306, comp XE274 cam, GT40 intake Windsor sr heads, pro M 80 R mass air Paxton Novi 1000 around 9-10 lbs, 42 lb injector...etc idles at 950 has ran low 11's @122 mph with very very low timing on pump 93..i do feel i could have can go 10's with this combo...>>i get 9 mpg though
Just ordered a V3 si kit 10 to 12 lbs. All stock motor other than headers. Also got 42lbs injectors and a pro-m 80mm meter. Will the car be OK to drive without tune? Because won't i still use the fmu to compensate? Sorry I'm a noob. Had h/c/I a long time ago, thought I'd try a different route on this car.
At that boost level the car will definitely need to be tuned. You can get away with 5 psi or so sometimes but 10-12 is too much for the computer to compensate for.
I’m working on an 89 and just acquired an older Paxton sn2000 but have no tuning shops where I live on Vancouver island. I can’t find any info on what I can do to run it with out a tune. Any ideas what I can do to get by with the stock a9l?
Glad you brought up this topic ,always wanted to get the Anderson programmer, have you, your buddys or anyone in brew2l nation have or had any pos or neg experience with it
you're right about. not. needing a. tune with a heads and cam car but there is extra power to be gained with a tune I picked up 25 hp with a tune just have to weigh it out is $500 worth the extra 25 hp. at the time to me it was but if I didn't have the money I would be ok with not tuning it also some cars may not gain that much because I'm not sure where the timing was before tuning some may have come from advancing the timing.
I put heads, cam 1.6 rocker arms flat top pistons and cobra intake. I need help it runs extremely lean, at wot it’s a dog in the 15-16s on my AFR tell 4000rpm then it drops to 14 and starts to pull better how do I richen it up!??
I like the video. I remembered in 2005, I looked at an 88 Mustang GT with a cam at the dealership. The check engine light was on. I was looking at the car. I didn't test drive the car. The car sounds great, but I do believe that car might need a tune since the car is a speed density car. Something to look at when I do a project car.
I don't know if you remember or ever even heard of Texas Turbo Engineering out of Houston? My 88 LX was converted to mass air and has their Microburst Module attached to the back of the ECU. It works mainly from half to full throttle with timing with or without nitrous. Car did have nitrous installed at one point in time but not since I've owned it.
I wasted $$ on a CAI, even put a calibrated MAF on it... Ran like crap.. Was creating a cyclone of air through the bend after the air filter.. Put the stock air box back on and it rips... A CAI looks cool, but never again..
Well you know I’m a big fan of the channel but the people you talking about just talking a huge amount of shit I do agree with tuning a car especially a car like yellow wolf but these foxes don’t really need a tune I’m surprised your dad car don’t have a tune thought when you go with a supercharger u need a tune but to cut all of that short I’m from the Caribbean and we have fast cars down here but where I’m from my country don’t have a Dyno but I’m telling you we got a lot of cars over here where I’m from with a lot of power without tune and that’s facts keep doing what you doing big fan bin here since 1000 subs so F the haters they don’t know a quarter of what you know trust me
i run the megasquirt and this is a real gain... had some problems with running lean with the stock ecu ..went back from Nitrous to NA but higher comp and bigger cam .. Megasquirt has a lot of extras like autotune or VE analize... that helps a lot ..but needs some time to get into it ..but there is a lot of help in the net...
I agree only time its really "worth" the money is with a super pumped n.a. setup or with boost. Typical "driveable" hci setups you can certainly get away with rockin a stock computer. Its touchy and it better not have any air leaking in the intake department but totally doable with a good sealed up engine. 👍 speaking from experience
I am running 306 with 10 to 1 compression, gt40p heads, TFS stage 1 cam and 24lb injectors for a decade without a tune. However I recommend putting any build on the dyno to check your AFR. I just added the digital 6al and thanks for posting this being able to see your AFR ends up saving you $$$
What had me shocked when I put my car together was that the 19's with bigger pump and fuel regulator handled HCI upgrades no problem. A/F's were fine, no danger at all. Could it be refined further? Yeah no doubt but for a turn key car Im super happy foxbody owner.
Man my idle is up higher, and i watched ur video and am planning on trying too fix it. The thing is this is my 3rd Fox and ive never had to do anything but put a water pump on one. Old cars i can do almost anything but i am afraid of messing with computer cars. Luckily this isn't over done with all kinds of tech. But i do thank you for your knowledge.
These old ford processors are starting to show their age from all the heat cycles and i have personally seen where the SCT chips installed in an EECIV can/will overheat the processor. Anyone else experience this.
Asking because I don't know. On my 08 Bullitt I had cams installed and a dyno tuned. Got 347 rwhp car was N/A. On my Fox, it has alum Holley heads, Lunati Cam LT's and rest of the exhaust. It smells like it's running rich bad, but engine runs strong. I'm sure a tune would help it, but what exactly get's changed. Example, my Bullitt had a hand held with loaded tunes. Will the tuner basically on the Fox just add a chip to make it run more efficient with better HP and cut down on the bad fumes? This was actually being discussed yesterday on FB pages that I started. Ironically your posting this today. Thanks
The best option imo is to just change the computer out for something aftermarket, but a chip can be burned for the stock computer. More than likely it won’t 100% fix the rich smell it you don’t have cats on the car. But will probably help some for sure.
Mine's being tuned right now. I've got Trick Flow heads and intake and a Lunati cam. I bought the SCT chip a few years ago from American Muscle, which came with the BAMA tunes on it for my combo. It wasn't ideal, for sure. I'm having my local tuning shop retune the SCT chip... bringing it in, mine was running lean. The tuner said he's gotten my cold start issue fixed and the car is running smoother now that he's worked on the fuel. So basically I had to pay for the chip and then pay for a tune to get it dialed in. The peace of mind will be worth it in the end for me. If you got the chip, maybe it would be all you need and get you in the proper range, but it's possible you might still need it tuned in person.
I tune my car with a Moates Quarterhorse. The most important thing on a fox with a stock ecu is dialing in the maf curve. Most likely the reason your car smells rich is because it's actually lean and ecu is over compensating with fuel trying to get the mixture right. This is most always caused by the maf curve being off. If you're running aftermarket injectors and a "matching mass air" there's always a chance that the "calibration in the meter is off". I always recommend getting a good meter from pro-m or getting a quarterhorse and tuning yourself if you're on a budget. I have a RUclips channel that I'm going to use to cover tuning with a quarterhorse. But like BREW2L I'm thinking about selling all stock stuff with my 80mm c&l and quarterhorse and buying a microsquirt.
@@Riffs_Garage I have a pro-m from lmr for my 24lb injectors. Was driving today because it's the South and almost 80 out, but was thinking, this girl likes to drink gas. My son's 93 stock heads and bottom end I'm pretty sure when I had it was much better on gas. I've owned many Fox's, but never one built like this. So was thinking nature of the beast? After seeing vid, I may contact ProDyno tomorrow and see what his est is and says. He did the cams and dyno on my old 08 Bullitt.
Thanks for the info I am thinking about buying a megasquirt for my 1994 mustang that’s a stock bottom end with trickflow upper half and a modified vortech v1superchager, been having lots of issues with the car from previous owners
Good information. I subscribed, this is one of my favorite foxbody channels. Budget, down to earth stuff that helps people. I do like high end stuff though. Btw, Yellowbullet seems to be about dead in the tech sections now.
Thanks for the information, I’ve been on the fence about getting the SVE heads for fear that it would cause headaches down the road, but it sounds like that won’t be a threat. Keep doing what you do buddy and thanks for help keeping these old beauties on the road!!!
You must read my mind. I just rebuilt my 347 stroker with a new short block as a 331. New cam as well and reused everything else (intake, heads, exhaust). I was just thinking about whether I needed a tune
You should try the Holley terminator x system. I've been hearing lots of good things about it for a cheap price. You should review it before I buy it! Lol!!
@@wesboyd7416 cool deal brother. Let me know how it goes once installed. I will be placing my order soon. I've been having issues with my 1987 GT. I converted it to MAF and I've been having idling issues.
@@wesboyd7416 I just ordered mine today. Do you have the part numbers for the tfi kit? I bought the holley 550-937f. Is it the same terminator x kit you bought?
Love your videos, all the info you put out there is really beneficial about these old girls. I've had many EFI powered fox cars in my past, and so did my father ( that's how I got into this). All were modified to some extent. Some being stroker engines with the factory EFI set up that ran extreme well with no issues. My current ride though, is a 84 T-Top car with a stock bottom 302, Anderson B31 cam, GT40 heads, and a Holley 600cfm 4 barrel. Ignition is running the 6al box with timing locked and it runs it's ass off. How would you go about improving on the carb set up while using nitrous? This car has long tubes, electric cut outs, and extensive rear end work with 4:10 gears.
Great video, very informative, I was under the impression that you really needed an expensive aftermarket ecu like haltech, pro-m, Holley, etc. to be able to run heads intake and cams and such. I'm shocked to learn your pop's supercharged car isn't tuned even running 30lbs injectors. My old 93 5.0 thunderbird lx back in the day had a bunch of little cheap mods done to it ("the hot air intake"+ air silencer delete, msd distributor cap & rotor, msd coil, accel wires, E3 plugs, ported MAF housing, an egr block off plate made from the aluminum from a beer can, I also at one point put a plug in the vacuum port of the fuel regulator I had read online you'd get a few pounds more fuel that way) I never did get it tuned it idled slightly rougher than stock but it surprised quite a few mustang and ricers on the street. For an AOD car that was heavier than a mustang it drove pretty good.
Hey I've got a quick question? Wanting blew2l opinion. Not all the subs who dont even have a car. I've got a 94 cobra with a 347, aluminum afr renegade heads. Paid over 2k for the heads and just recently managed to strip a spark plug thread. Got a 14mm thread chaser with grease but before I do it I just want to see if you have any useful experience/input?
I just went through something similar with my used AFR 165s. Mine was not stripped, but one spark plug would not screw all the way in like the rest. I didn't force it, I stopped and assessed my options. I discovered that there is a tool called a backtap. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0014FGVVW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_image_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I layered it up with bearing grease, followed the directions, and it worked great. Not sure if this would help your situation, but might be worth a try.

Absolutely. Mines sitting at 781/785 on a dart 306 turbo deal

Fordhorder: where are you located?
Anyone in the St. Louis area. I just found a new tuner in the area that was the best investment I made. This guy is a wizard. My car had been previously tuned by the “mustang guru” in our area and he shit the bed as far as I’m concerned. I wouldn’t recommend that guy to an enemy. Conceded jerkoff that likely cost me an engine that was near $10 large.
I'm in St.louis, who do you recommend?
Delvin H I’ll have to get his info in the am. If I haven’t replied with that info by noon tomorrow reply again to remind me.
Thank you
With my old h/c/i fox body I just set the timing to 14 degrees on 19 lb injectors and a fpr!

Well said really. I actually paid for dyno tunes in the past that didn't go well and it probably wasn't necessary
Ur videos are so educational on fox body mustang! Thanks!
This was helpful thank you so much
I have a homebuilt 331 stroker, canfield heads x303 cam, ported cobra upper and lower , no tune runs and idles good.
Awesome advice
Love the channel and love the live podcast
awesome info !!
Thanks for the video bro
Exactly
How’d you wire an AF gauge in on a stock PCM?
@@TheJMan1K It's not wired into the pcm!! It has a sensor and a gauge like a typical aftermarket temp or oil gauge!! Screws into the exhaust before the cats!!

Can i run 24 lbs injectors on stock maf or do i have to buy a calibrated 24 lbs maf? or can u tune stock maf?

Tmoss huh.. 2000s forum legend right there.

The micro is batch fire injector (bank1-bank2)
The mega is sequential so it fires the injectors individually.
Yes sir
@@BREW2LFOXBODY Does the Microsquirt also eliminate the MASS AIR?
Had to readjust the pins or really do the pin install to the plug it came with
The meter had the oval 89+ plug, where's mine was the square 88.
And ya, I got a BBK 73mm meter that I think should work fine as far as my past experiences with their products.
I bought an electronic 80mm TB for my 07 expy from them that works great.
Holley Terminator X kit for Foxbody. This is my plan. I have a HCI combo that needs a tune bad.
bob smith if your just running a hci a good meter should get you straight! But if your planning on more upgrades down the road good to plan ahead!
Self tuning is so satisfying. I love rolling around with the laptop open. It’s so ricey but I love it ha.
Cheers 🍻
I think it was a very helpful video I learned a lot two thumbs up bro
Thank you 🙏
So im getting my exhaust done on my foxbody and the guy says it’ll need a tune to run right and after seeing this video I’m kind of torn between it, if somebody here can help me out it would be much appreciated (bbk long tube headers and catted mid pipe, 75mm throttle body, cold air intake, underdrive pulley kit) this is everything I have installed engine wise.
Great pointers there Bro👍 Stang Life 🐎
I’m really interested in seeing how the micro squirt works.
@@BREW2LFOXBODY yea I'm out of cash for a tune... im just gunna send it. Thanks for the reply 👍

Back when cars where simple. My 2011 gt need to tune seems like If ya change the spark plugs lol
Exactly, I think that’s part of what people think of when they make changes to a fox.
I’m working on an 89 and just acquired an older Paxton sn2000 but have no tuning shops where I live on Vancouver island. I can’t find any info on what I can do to run it with out a tune. Any ideas what I can do to get by with the stock a9l?

Thank you, I don’t have any experience with it myself though.
you're right about. not. needing a. tune with a heads and cam car but there is extra power to be gained with a tune I picked up 25 hp with a tune just have to weigh it out is $500 worth the extra 25 hp. at the time to me it was but if I didn't have the money I would be ok with not tuning it also some cars may not gain that much because I'm not sure where the timing was before tuning some may have come from advancing the timing.
Hey Bama tunes worked great on my my 331 with afr 185 heads and cam 30lb injectors and a 100 shot on my 🦊 body
I wasted $$ on a CAI, even put a calibrated MAF on it... Ran like crap.. Was creating a cyclone of air through the bend after the air filter.. Put the stock air box back on and it rips... A CAI looks cool, but never again..
Well you know I’m a big fan of the channel but the people you talking about just talking a huge amount of shit I do agree with tuning a car especially a car like yellow wolf but these foxes don’t really need a tune I’m surprised your dad car don’t have a tune thought when you go with a supercharger u need a tune but to cut all of that short I’m from the Caribbean and we have fast cars down here but where I’m from my country don’t have a Dyno but I’m telling you we got a lot of cars over here where I’m from with a lot of power without tune and that’s facts keep doing what you doing big fan bin here since 1000 subs so F the haters they don’t know a quarter of what you know trust me
No ….I don’t got experience ima shut up .
6 months later I’m backkkkkkk!!!!!!!
i run the megasquirt and this is a real gain... had some problems with running lean with the stock ecu ..went back from Nitrous to NA but higher comp and bigger cam .. Megasquirt has a lot of extras like autotune or VE analize... that helps a lot ..but needs some time to get into it ..but there is a lot of help in the net...
How much timing for 331 10:1 vortech? 16 degree? I’m on mega squirt
I have an 86 air density. Can I just plug and play the microsquirt? Or do I need a mass air?
The biggest advantage to MS3 over Micro is sequential fuel injection (MS3) compared to Batch Fire (micro). I have MS3 on my turbo fox.

Just bought a 91 lx with edelbrock pro flo 4 and it runs like shit. Should I take it to a tuner?
Man my idle is up higher, and i watched ur video and am planning on trying too fix it. The thing is this is my 3rd Fox and ive never had to do anything but put a water pump on one. Anybody on here tune scat chips
I'm building a 331 stroker w gt40 heads and intake 24lb inj. Need dyno tune???
Don't know if it matters, but mines an 88 and maf converted by previous owner, but engine installer stated it looks ok.

How does everyone like a bama tune on a relitivly stock car?
Eectuning and efidynotune good websites for those that want to learn ford tuning.
Yes!! I use efidynotuning.com and eectuning.org a bunch
You talked about boost needing tuning. What about nitrous. Pull timing (2degrees per 50hp) vs getting an actual tune. Thoughts ?
It’s definitely always safe to get a time on nitrous. But we’ve done as much as a 125 shot without a tune.
I discovered that there is a tool called a backtap. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0014FGVVW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_image_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I layered it up with bearing grease, followed the directions, and it worked great. Not sure if this would help your situation, but might be worth a try.
I gotta get a good dyno tune done when i get my new motor in its a big difference from a 302 to a 408 clevor and i dont know a thing about tuning lol
