  • I am a Christian who loves and fallows Jesus! But it can be hard to know what to believe when it comes to nitty gritty christian doctrine. There are so many different christian denominations teaching lil different things about the Bible. How can you know who's right and what you should believe?? To be honest I think its impossible to get everything 100% right when it comes to God. So I just do my best to think things through and trust in Jesus along the way.

I'm 26 at the moment. Born into a Cstholic family and stopped attending church when I was 14 years old, because I did not think confessing to a priest was biblical and thought the images and "Mary worship" are idolatry. So I became somewhat non-denominational discovering Christianity from the internet, getting my own Bible and interpreted the Bible according to what made most sense through the lense of my influences online, which where from Baptist, Hebrew Root to Seventh Day Adventists kind og Christians. Back then I had a really hard time in my life and lost trust in people. So somehow in retrospected I was more attracted to denominations like the Seventh Day Adventist church, which make a big deal out of how the mainstream churches like Roman Catholicism and even others who worship on Sunday must be wrong. So I had kind of a conspirational mind, where I thought that I'm the only one knowing the most about the faith, while everyone else around me might be deceived by Satan. And of course I didn't attend any church because of that.
As I got older and stopped to be like that I discovered more of the scholastic site of the Christian faith. The Lutheran Jordan B Cooper was a big influence on me as well as glimpsing over church history. Back then my conclusion became that the mix I believed earlier was pretty ahistorical. I was shocked that Luther (and even Calvin to some degree) would practice their faith rather in a "Catholic way", as both Lutheranism and Presbyterianism are pretty liturgical instead of the endless sermon kind of worship in contemporary evangelicalism. It begged the question in me how modern worship could be the way to go, when it's, well, modern. Why would got allow all teh ritualistic parts, when it doesn't matter? Wouldn't it be rather superstitious or idolatrous?
Later on I got convinced that the Eucharist/Lord's supper is truly the flesh and blood of Jesus Christ and not just a mere symbol, as Luther believed and also the church from the beginning as evident in all tge church fathers. So either the church felt totally into idolatry eith tgis belief from the very beginning and everyone was wrong until very late in history, or the truth got preserved by God throughout history and I was the being wrong. So I wanted to become a Lutheran for a good time because of this, but didn't because the kind of LutheranismI wanted, became rare and the modern evangelical luth. churches did not put that much emphasis on the real presence.
I still had the option to revert to Catholicism, the religion I was born into, but I knew that I couldn't receive the Eucharist there without making a confession.
Later on I listened to a preacher I still admire very much, named Derek Prince. He died a longer time ago, but I didn't saw anyone preaching like him in my life and dividing the word of God as he did. To my shock, even though he was a Pentecostal of the Charismatic movement, he would mourn and say that it's a bad thing that Protestants removed confession. At the same time he also believed in the real presence of the Eucharist. I also found out that my idol Luther still went to confession after the reformation happened and that for a long time confessions have been practiced in Lutheran churches commonly.
Then one day a Catholic persuaded me to just go to a Catholic church and make a confession there. I didn't believe in the Catholic church yet because I had my issues with "Mary worship", which made me prefer Lutheranism. Long story short, I did it anyway. For some odd reason I felt like really contrite while confessing and started to sob like crazy. As the priest absolved me from my sins, I felt a "power" running through me and my Tinnitus (a condition where one hears ringing constantly) fully disappeared for a good time and I felt super light after that. I knew for sure that the Holy Spirit was working in the Catholic church from now on. I also had it way easier to resist sexual urges. It was as if a curse on me lifted and I had the freedom to actually resist sin. Before that I thought I'm doomed to sin in particular sins, without even hsving the possibility to resist it.
After this experience I became someone who wouldn't skip church anymore and go to the Catholic church, while still doubting many dictrines of the church.
Finally I worked everything out for me, to really become Catholic by some special encounter in Croatia. For now I don't want to mention it, as my comment is already long.
Anyway, God bless everyone. Life is sometimes not as it seems and oir understanding of the faith grows with us as we ourselves grow. I don't want to proselytize anyone, but give a testimony about my development and experience. There is more to tell, if soneone is interested. I can reply to comments. Have a blessed day.

    I'll be 47 in Sept.
When I was younger and at an appropriate age, my parents allowed me to go church hopping.
I grew up in a pre-Trib rapture, Pentecostal household. I'm the oldest of 3. Have one younger sis 2 years younger and my kid sister is 10 years younger. I'm 20 years younger than parents and they just celebrated their 50th anniversary.
We frequented a Four-Square Gospel church. Eventually my curiosity got the better of me, but parents said to wait till I was 13.
From that point on, I bounced between Catholic, Charismatic, Non Denom, Lutheran, Baptist, and a few other denominations.
At 16 I started asking questions that got me into trouble. Like at a Baptist Church (paraphrased)
me - if you believe in the holy Spirit, why don't you believe in the manifestation of the holy spirit?
Them - we believe that further knowledge isn't available.
    Me - Daniel 12:4
That one passage got me in big trouble. Was asked to leave after that.
After that, my questions to various denominations persisted. It was never out of spite, but trying to understand. Sometimes they listened and explained things....and sometimes my line of questions "offended" or "caused conflict". It wasn't like I was asking in front of the congregation, rather behind closed doors, out of respect.
At 19, I had settled into a non Denom church. I didn't believe in some of the spiritual gifts and I was unsure about prophetic dreams.
While I didn't believe in those things, I really liked how the pastor didn't always preach from the pulpit. No, sometimes he sat on the floor of the stage and talked personally to the members of the church. Or he'd walk the aisles and preach. I found that to be impressive and highly respectable.
And it was at that church I found my new fav type of Christian music - praise and worship. Sorry, but hymns just aren't for me. There's literally two of them that DON'T put me to sleep.
It was during one of the services where I found myself front and center to be prayed for. Pastor just looked at me and I was down, fallen (I don't use the term slain) in the Spirit.
I can go into detail if you want, but trying not make this post too long. I'm quite long winded.
After that experience, my eyes and heart were opened...and I read and prayed the Word with invigoration.
    I am non Denom charismatic.
I do believe in the spiritual gifts
I do Not believe in Planned revivals
I'm pre-wrath these days. Hope it comes sooner, but best be prepared.
I believe in the literal heaven and a literal hell
Judgment comes for all of us
The Word was written through mankind via the Holy Spirit. Everything is important, not just the Red Letters
I'm straight and natural born eunuch
I do NOT believe the Word promotes homosexuality or transgenderism
I may have missing junk and have a dud for a pituitary gland, but that doesn't mean I am or should be gay, trans, intersexed, or whatever else some people have been trying to pin on me.

When I was growing up, I think I was 7 or 8 when I realized this....that we celebrated every birthday except for one - Mom's. When I asked my father why, I'll never forget his response...."don't worry about it"
From that moment on, when anyone tried to wish me a happy bday or celebrated it, I avoided it as much as I could. Eventually I got to the point where I hated celebrating my bday. Why? Guilt. Plain and simple.
By the time I was able to properly express showing.my appreciation for Mom by taking her out to dinner on my dime (first job outside of farm work), while she did appreciate thought and the reason for what I did, she told me to never do it again. Intimacy with Him is so much better than being religious ( I mean works based religion that is) because good works come *from* our being in a good relationship with Him and cultivating a relationship with him! Jesus simply desires that we authentically BELIEVE in Him and truly trust in him and not ourselves! Jesus is our focus! Amen! I hope you understand me! Some scripture ->

Presbyterians, Dutch Reformed, and Congregationalists are the only denominations that teach classic Reformed Theology ie Calvinism. By this I mean they teach double predestination, are amillennial, hold to the spiritual presence of Christ in the Eucharist, believe in baptismal efficacy, and practice infant baptism. Historic Baptists , in accordance with the London Baptist Confession of 1689, also fell into this category.
I know of no denomination that is entirely Arminian. Many Methodists are Arminian, as are plenty of Christians in other denominations, but there is no denomination I know of that has Arminianism as standard teaching.
Modern Baptists are generally either Provisionists or loosely defined Calvinists (holding to double predestination but little else).

Definitely feel what you said about arminianism vs calvinism. I've been finding reading the Church Fathers has helped me from indulging in strange doctrines, while still challenging me in what I believe. No church today the same as the early church, and I'm still comfortable being non denominational as well.

    Hey! Baptist Christian here!
i love how you teach and i found your channel just recently. I do have to say something (or two) and I'm a little serious about this because I have a friend like you! and I don't hate any denominations
    1. know what non-denominational category you are, in because many non-denominationals are closer to Southern Baptist. now when asked why you are non-denominational you have to be sure, because in reality believing the word isn't about personal opinion it's about what God truly says. know theology and know there is no non-denominational in theology. so either you fit in a doctrine that is rooted in a denomination. not to force it because everyone views the bible differently. theology is a deeper study of concepts and ideas in the bible very much needed
    2. i do not know if you're going to a church that is non-denominational but be careful, non-denominationalism is centered on what a person believes and most non-denominational churches struggle with money and people who work in it (not always the case). they are very close to just their church. this is why this 'denomination' is on the "we do not know" side of things. it is not biblical because non-denominational churches separate the church even more. and we do not want that. we want to be more united than ever. while beliefs are different we all MUST believe the essentials
and 3. There is no rush in finding a denomination as long as you find a church that has the true teaching of the Bible and God and doesn't change any of the essentials we believe in then you are good. and truly you're a sweet person and I really hope this can reach out to you and many other people. God bless and thank you for making such amazing content
    🙏🙏🙏

I have been having trouble because people that are Orthodox say that if you aren't orthodox you will go to hell, or if you aren't water baptized and such. But you helped me realize its ok that I have differing beliefs from a lot of other people. We can all argue this or that but what really matters at the end of the day is how you live. This is a result of what you believe. And what we should believe is Love, which is taking up our cross and sacrificing ourselves for others just as Christ did. This is hard enough in itself and should be our priority- to imitate Christ. All other debate is much less important

Hey Blue! I’m a new viewer who is non-denominational too! I really like your attitude towards self-improvement and how being non-denomination encourages you to explore that.
Since the Bible says “As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭27‬:‭17‬ ‭NLT‬‬ I’d like to add a constructive critique for you to study whenever. At 2:16 you mention you’re unsure of praying to Mary. I am sure from what I’ve read that this is misguided. We’re living within the New Covenant and in John‬ ‭16‬:‭22‬-‭24‬ ‭NLT the Bible says: “So you have sorrow now, but I will see you again; then you will rejoice, and no one can rob you of that joy. At that time you won’t need to ask me for anything. I tell you the truth, you will ask the Father directly, *and he will grant your request because you use my name. You haven’t done this before. Ask, using my name*, and you will receive, and you will have abundant joy.”
Of course I encourage you to seek your conclusion yourself and study yourself. Hope this helps!❤

I think you shouldn't discredit Calvinism too early. I was with you, somewhere in between Calvinism and Armenianism, a month or two ago. But, I have recently found the truth. I was biiiig into free grace. I was non denom so usually that goes hand in hand. So, when i first heard the idea of Calvinism, i was like "bruh, that sounds terrible!" BUT one day I had a discussion with a very intelligent man that shared his view on getting salvation. I also shared mine. He presented his argument with grace and intellect and it was mind blowing. I honestly felt the Holy Spirit in that moment and it brought me to tears. Most Calvinists arent convinced initially very easily though, it takes a lot of studying and questioning of their own beliefs. When i looked into Calvinism after the discussion, I was enraptured in it and I loved it and became closer to God than ever before because of how it reformed my way of thinking about the Bible. Calvinism focuses on God rather than how many focus on man. The Bible is about God, His sovereignty, His grace, and His story. it was never about us. I urge you to not use your earthly morals when interpreting scripture, use scripture to interpret scripture (the 5 solas)
Calvinism brought me to reformed theology and to a reformed church. honestly im still looking, i am not sure if the one im at right now is right, but i do say it is beautiful. i am apart of the CRCNA if ur curious :))
i wanted to give a personal testimony rather than a whole bunch of verses cause u can find the specific stuff very easily in books or online.
also dont just look into Calvinism, look into Armenianism too. yes, peter does say to not be divided on small issues, but it doesnt mean to not study them and discuss with peers (thats what i like to do) about it because as long as its not coming out of a place of anger, it is healthy to challenge your theology, which I can see you are doing! God bless you

My question regarding this is (if you’ve heard of it or watched it), what are your thoughts on a show like this that tries to reconstruct / enrich the stories of The Bible? Would you recommend it to fellow christians? What should one be cautious of when watching a show like this if anything? And i dunno, how do you feel about it, like it, dislike it?
That’s all, sorry for the long comment…! Thank you again for your videos, they changed my perspective on some things. Thanks also for appearing nice and laid back, your personality makes it feel like you rrally care for your fans path in their Faith.

Found your channel today, good content so far. I definitely agree that denominationalism (probably not a real word, but I’m rolling with it) causes a sort of hive mind, and leads to people not looking objectively at their beliefs compared to scripture. I attend a Church of Christ, mainly because it’s the church my wife grew up in, and while I love the people I fellowship with there, I do disagree with some of their doctrines. It is a more theologically liberal CoC, which mind you, CoC standards of liberalism still make it more conservative than your average mainline Protestant church, so it isn’t nearly as bad as your typical CoC about legalism and not teaching grace. I’d probably find another church if my family were to move, or God forbid, my wife and I were to separate, but I do like it there. There is a great support network, and I have a newfound respect for the preacher who helped me navigate a very trying faith crisis last year. But I will say, I’m still not fond of their stance on instrumental music, and I do take the annihilationist approach to hell, something that I know most churches, not just the CoC, would consider a heterodox view, but that’s what I’ve found the scripture to most likely be referring to, with verses like Matthew 10:28 and II Thessalonians 1:9 referring to the lake of fire as a place of destruction, not everlasting torment. I personally like the view (I can’t remember which theologen said this, and I’m too lazy to look it up ATM lol) that nobody probably has more than 80% of their theology right.

I am currently a non-denom as well. The funny thing is that its basically just Baptist with a modern twist (Cool website, smoke machines, contemporary worship). Maybe sprinkle in a little reformed. My problem in Protestantism is that there is endless schism and people within denominations can't seem to agree with each other. But, I'm not saying that there are 10,000 groups like some people like to say.
I think that's why you will find many people online turn to Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy. There is so much roots in tradition. Unchanged Christianity. At first I thought It was dumb, but then I learned that it just meant teachings being passed down. Who's interpretation to follow? Your non-denom pastor or the early church fathers who were disciples of the apostles?
Anyways, great content, I subbed. All this is kinda overwhelming but at the end of the day we all love Christ.

You seem pretty young still, so you will have lotsa time to discover where you might fit in best and what you believe (imo there's only one completely right answer but I suppose that's up for you to decide).

I hear you. My beliefs don’t line up 100% with the confessions of my denomination but they don’t need to. My denomination is the one I attend, not the one that agrees with me most theologically. Don’t fear disagreement, loving debate amongst believers is fruitful to one’s spiritual journey. Here are a couple reasons you should consider joining a church too.
Apostolic succession & sacraments: Actively taking part in the sacraments, especially Communion, are an essential expression of the Christian faith. All Christians should if they can. It’s debatable whether apostolic succession is strictly necessary to have a church which can validly administer sacraments, but that there is any doubt at all should make one wary of attending a church without it. If you can attend a denomination with apostolic succession you should. The most common denominations with succession are Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Lutheran, Anglican/Episcopal & Reformed/Presbyterian.
The goal to be a united Church: It’s clear that we are a divided Church body, but we shouldn’t be okay with that. Paul is clear that division is the work of evil in his 1st letter to Corinthians. We should strive to be one Church. By refusing to pick a denomination your works say “the historical goal of one global Church in Christ isn’t something worth striving for”. That’s a true shame.
The first ecumenical council of Nicaea came to the conclusion that we should be “One Holy, Catholic & Apostolic Church”, that is a goal worth striving for. Accepting nondenominationalism rejects the goals of our Christian ancestors.
Given your objection to denominations which get too specific, I point you to Anglicanism. There’s plenty of room for discussion and disagreement between Anglicans, it’s part of what makes that tradition so special. You will find good company there between believers who have faithful, productive discussions.

Totally makes sense. I too, am a non-denominational Protestant. I see lots of good things in many denominations that I completely agree with, but I also see many things in those denominations that I completely disagree with. For some doctrines, my view lines up with that of a Baptist, for other doctrines, my views are more similar to a Pentecostal. However, I like to hear what people of other denominations have to say about certain things, since it helps me articulate my own views. Iron sharpens iron, as the scriptures say. Some people poke fun at non-denominationals for not aligning with big mainstream denominations, however, statistically non-denominationals are the most biblical Christians.

Seeing that you mentioned the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, allow me to take a moment of your time to argue for the affirmative position. First and foremost, we must recognize the fact Christ is the fulfillment of God's promise of an eternal monarchy to king David (2 Sam 7:13). This role is also made clear in the New Testament.
    Luke 1:31-33
You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”
Now, in the Davidic monarchy, a king used to rule with a queen. But this queen was not his wife, but rather his mother. She was known as the "queen mother". The queen mother was second in rank only to the king. She thus also served a role as a powerful intercessor to the king. We can see an example of this in 1 Kings 2:13-18, where Adonijah requested Bathsheba, the mother of king Solomon, to intercede to Solomon for him. Adonijah thus assumed that the queen will speak to Solomon on his behalf and that Solomon will not refuse her. Therefore, if Jesus is the new king, that makes Mary the new queen. This is something that would immediately be recognized by any 1st century Jew. And the historic Christian faith also recognized this fact.
John Damascene, On the Orthodox Faith, 4.14 [8th century A.D.]
"Must there not therefore be a Mother of God who bore God incarnate? Assuredly she who played the part of the Creator's servant and mother is in all strictness and truth in reality God's Mother and Lady and Queen over all created things."
John Damascene, Homily on the Dormition 1, no. 2 [8th century A.D.]
"Neither the human tongue nor the mind of the angels that live beyond this universe can give worthy praise to her, through whom it has been granted us to gaze clearly on the glory of the Lord . . . Let us, in holy reverence, with trembling hand and yearning soul, pay gratefully the humble first-fruits of our minds, as we must, to the Queen Mother, the benefactress of all nature!"

Hey, Wesleyan here, just a few things:
    1. If you join a denomination, you don’t have to agree with everything they believe. My denom teaches YEC and I’m still unsure on that.
    2. Iron sharpens iron. Mentors, pastors, and other church leaders are very important for your growth as a Christian, so find people like that who are trustworthy to you.
    3. I’m not against nondenominational churches, but they can be less secure, and they have little to no accountability to stay with the Scriptures.

I'd say what sets me apart from Catholics and Orthodox denominations is my belief in the Sola Scriptura(Scripture has full authority). In that sense I fall in line with the Protestants but I don't fall in with any of the protestant denominations. I think its just important as you have said here to give Jesus full authority and considering we have verses like "John 1" and "2 Timothy 3:16-17" I think the idea that one can rely on the word of God alone aka The Bible and our relationship with Jesus through prayer is very valid. Also there was no church or denominations when Jesus said "For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them" in Matthew 18:20, I think this verse directly describes what Jesus' idea of a church was which is brothers and sisters in Christ communing together in his name. Much love, really enjoy your take on things!

Such a good video!!! Every church has some sort of unbiblical (sometimes heretical belief) like how the Easter Orthodox has a wide belief of Toll Houses and Temporal Hell in its dogma, or how many Baptists believe you cant drink wine and the wine in the bible was grape juice. As long as you read the bible and do the very most to understand and follow it, you shouldn't be afraid.

The tollhouse is not a held dogma. It isn’t even agreed on by most people.

The Orthodox Church, doesn’t have dogma on everything.

I suggest you read the biography of Mother Theresa. She really lived the life lived in Christ. Or just follow what Jesus did and you will see it's what he did is what most Christians don't do. It became about belief rather than actions moved by Love. Love in action is God made manifest.

Non denominational churches ARE their own denomination. A non denominational church is an independent church with their own beliefs. That make that non denominational church not be in a larger denomination which makes that singular church its on denomination. Which makes non-denominational churches infinitely denominational.

Idk you say you Don't trust yourself but you are the only one to hold yourself to God's words? Even if people make mistakes communities can call out people for their fault. And I understand you may not understand everything but having a church with you helps a lot. Because there will always be temptation we have God, the loved ones in our lives, and our church to help us.

Orthodoxy is fantastic, orthodoxy really helped me a lot!! even when i grew up in a Croatian Catholic Family, that has a great Catholic History, with lots of influential Croatian Catholic People, so i found Orthodoxy, and Ultimately Closer to Christ, they also we're the first denomination i saw, that completely believes, what i believe, and they also lay great importance on God's Mystery, that we do not know Everything about God, in-fact, we do not even know a lot, and they lay much importance on that, which i do aswell, and i do not support the pope role, and they root back to the Apostles, so their Actually Pre-denominational, as Catholicism and Orthodoxy are the first 2 Denominations, that we're together for a very long time, God Bless You, Christ Has Risen, and i hope you find your truth in Christ, with the Help of The Holy Spirit aswell, God Bless. ☦︎

Question for you. You say you don’t agree with Calvinism OR Arminianism. I guess I could be wrong, but I thought Calvinism was the idea of predestination, and Arminianism was the idea that we could willfully choose to accept the Holy Spirit. If that’s right, then I don’t understand how you are neither. Could you explain that if you have time?

    • @fiji.christianblue
      @fiji.christianblue  21 день назад

Well, you know how the Christian God is only one, and yet the Bible shows three separate persons called God. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. In some weird way they’re both separate and they’re the same one God. Seems contradictory but Christina’s except the teaching of the trinity with the reasoning that God is simply beyond human comprehension. I understand the mechanics of salvation in a similar way. The Bible says that God chose us and it also says that we can choose Him. So I believe in both in some it’s beyond my comprehension kind of way.

I chose orthodoxy cause I love history and believe in divine miracles and I wasn’t a big fan of the papacy. I still consider Catholics and some Protestant sects my brothers and sisters even if we don’t 100% agree with everything and pray for them all the same.
