What a cool and smart mature woman. It's great to see more female directors in the industry. She's a real game changer . American society is so obsessed with celebrity culture they elected one for a President.Sad.
I think to a certain extent this idea of not expecting others to change but needing to encounter those situations and remove the button, as she puts it, that can be applied to so many situations in everyone's life. If we would all make an attempt to heal by sitting with our triggers we would each evolve in our own way and we would all be better for it.
"When you see my face you know what you are going to get. Complex and Interesting" I never thought about someone who looks older to be complex and interesting. Maybe wiser. I really like to have this new perspective. Thanks JB!
I’m reading the book now. I liked Family Ties back in the 80s, but I was never the ultimate fan. I will say that her style of writing is so that you just kind of feel what she’s taking you through. And it’s not always pretty, even for her as she is writing. Like I said I was never the ultimate fan, but I am a fan now. And I can’t wait for the next book! I am female in my later 50s. That in itself is a process because you feel a certain way, and when you look in the mirror it kind of jolts you because your looks may not match how you feel. And also the way people look at you… I work with a lot of younger women. I relate with them very easily, but it is just understood by all that I am the older person in the room. Listening to Justine’s unique perspective actually helps me feel more at home with how the outer shell looks, vs. the inner self feels. If that makes any sense at all. Thank you, Justine! Huge thank you!
The cover is amazing and creative. I can't wait to read this book. Justine is uber cool. I'm glad this interviewer asks astute questions. Such a fantastic interview.
You’re doing great work - I can’t wait to read your next book - this one was fantastic with important insights for us ALL. I love that you love the lines in your face, because I love the lines in mine, too! Thank you.
Yes, this was very interesting and thought-provoking! Just the other day this question popped into my mind about the fame-clout... she answered it well. :)
Gee whiz, can't you folks @ Build invest in a pair of radio mics for your presenter and guests? You have a nicely built set that's well lit and an affable presenter hosting the program but if I was a guest on your show, that'd really annoy me having to hold a clunky microphone for 30mins.
Actually, if you look at the mic, it's actually advertising the name of the show "Build"....I don't believe it was a "cost" issue...I believe it's a 'branding' tool...That 'clunky' microphone is equivalent to McDonald's 'Golden Arches', You are immediately stopping at Mickey D's if you are too hungry to cook....You are immediately stopping at this 'Build' RUclips channel because of the quality of cogent, intelligent interviews, you see that mic and you know this is not going to be pablum.
Even when I watched her as a kid on Family Ties I found her interesting. She was very pretty but there was also something strong and piercing in her eyes. She sort of held the whole thing in contempt somehow. I actually hated that show, I watched it just for her, for that witchy look in her eyes.
she says in her book that this type of look (European look) is what she has always wanted. This is on purpose. Having said that as a 46 year old myself - close to her age - I am able to keep a more 'maintained' look, simply because I want to. She is more interesting and have a lot to say - focusing on her look is a joke.
I named my daughter after her character who had the Fonz for a boyfriend. She was a art student.Cute smart edgy Yep she looks older because she is.I think it’s because she disappeared for20 years.Of course she is olderShe’s great Is she Jason Bateman sister?.
For whatever reason - drugs, smoking, illness, genetics - she has aged horribly. Having said that, she is quite attractive. She is intelligent, well-spoken and seems very grounded.
I know she has suffered from eating disorders, and they take a horrible toll on the body. She's also very thin now. When you get older, skinny doesn't always equal pretty. But wow, she is still brilliant.
Who gives a rats ass about how she looks. She's brilliant and inspiring. And she is wearing hardly any make up. I would guess that choice might have to do with the thesis of her book. But who knows....

"It wasn't that I wanted to change everyone's behavior around me. I wanted to become bullet proof."
This is it. We've got to get back to this
Authentic women are the best. Excellent interview!

Very interesting discussion. Thank you, Build, for having Ms Bateman on your platform.
Nice to see a natural woman.
Tess Goodman I agree.
The cover is amazing and creative. I can't wait to read this book. Justine is uber cool.

I am so happy for Justine. She's free and living her best life. What more??
So freaking interesting!!!!!
she makes me want to buy her book - well spoken

Thank you Justine Bateman for your insight and expression. We are better for it.
I prefer to watch real people . She's awesome
Love this look on her. Half ice princess half skate kid. Really cool.
Really good interview, nice line of questions that really helped open some stuff up. Way to avoid being "standard", while keeping it approachable.
Brilliant, simply brilliant!!
Love her. Courageous, wise, compassionate. God bless.
Her description of Fame is very close to life in general ...the ascent and descent.
Great interview ...this a smart lady

Great book really makes u wake up to what being Famous is really like.
Such an insightful and intelligent woman.
The book is excellent and well worth a read.
Wow love her

JB! Badass kickass smart beautiful woman!
Love you Justine! 🙍🏻♀️
Im crushed!
Post fame! Great subject
She’s so intelligent .... loved listening to her!
Mallory Bateman .I loved the name Mallory

Justin is too nice--most reality TV stars have absolutely no talent with anything whatsoever.
I believe she is a director now-
I named my daughter after her character who had the Fonz for a boyfriend. She was a art student.Cute smart edgy Yep she looks older because she is.I think it’s because she disappeared for20 years.Of course she is olderShe’s great Is she Jason Bateman sister?.

Her next book about beauty should be very interesting
samslick90 To me it looks like she aged naturally. She doesn’t have surgery and injectables... She’s in her 50s, she’s not a kid anymore.
I don't want to keep ragging about her appearances , but she looks at least a decade older than she actually is . Most women age better
Who gives a rats ass about how she looks. She's brilliant and inspiring. And she is wearing hardly any make up. I would guess that choice might have to do with the thesis of her book. But who knows....
Wait, is this supposed to be relatable? We're poor. And your being interviewed in a neon Muppet vest....
eek! what happened to her?
She's evolved into a highly educated woman who is down to earth and smart.
Age is a bitch!!
And tbh shes waaay cooler now!!
Life, and lots of it. Good and bad.
