We only think aging is ugly because that's what we've been taught to believe. Usually by men who are trying to sell us something. And it's only going to get worse too, because few people age naturally anymore. If you're a young kid now, you've probably never seen a person who has aged 100% naturally, so when you finally do, of course it will look ugly, shocking, and grotesque to you. I'm in my 60's now, and my looks definitely aren't what they used to be. But then, they aren't supposed to be! I definitely understand the temptation to intervene, but so far I've done nothing. I never used botox or fillers. I'm resisting as long as I can.

Both of the interviewers have had plenty of fillers and probably look at her as an activist because they don't know anyone their age who hasn't had botox. I'm 62, and everyone I know who is my age or close to it has had that. I don't blame them at all, I just find it disheartening that women don't get the luxury that men get to be able to age without scrutiny.

We’re in the age of SHALLOWNESS and an unhealthy obsession with SELFIES! My dearest and best friend…6 years older than I (I’m 57) sizes up EVERYONE…woman or man…she comments how old they look….I occasionally remind her that “not ever is interested in getting Botox and fillers every six weeks to please others”. This is something she does and I believe she is unaware that she would look like the rest of us if not for spending 1800 bucks every 6 or 8 weeks to maintain her plastic appearance and unusually large upper lip. Maybe others don't look at me as "old" and that's nice but the fact of the matter is that at some point we simply are "old". It doesn't necessarily mean "decrepit" or "senile" or "out of shape"..... it just means "old". I have a lot of fun in my life, I have a lot of friends who are younger than I and they don't refer to me as "old", but I don't have a problem with the term.... because it is a reality.

Did he think she was too old to comprehend the answer? Then there are those people who change their voice when speaking to the elderly as if they're children! In my opinion, we need to teach our children to respect their elders, listen to what they have to say, there is so much knowledge that they can teach us, stop treating them as if they are children!

I aged. This aging was brutal. It spread over my features, one by one. I saw this aging of my face with the same sort of interest I might have taken, for example, in the reading of a book." And, lastly, this wonderful passage (also from "The Lover"): “I've known you for years. Everyone says you were beautiful when you were young, but I want to tell you I think you're more beautiful now than then. Rather than your face as a young woman, I prefer your face as it is now. Ravaged.” Thank you, Justine, for saying and doing what Duras did. You are both beautiful, at whatever age, because you are you. xo

Ageism is real. Being denied employment opportunities because of age is real. Not being seen as attractive because of aging is real. Being left for someone younger is real. Being seen as not relevant because of age is real. Stop making people feel like it's always their fault or their responsibility to change the story. People have the right to do whatever they need to do in order to be happy with themselves, to be able to walk out the front door with confidence.....because there is criticism and judgment waiting everywhere you go. Not everyone has the luxury of saying "f" the world, I'm fabulous.

Aging is internal and external beauty and each of us do what's best for us - not to judge and to accept. I am 62 and I love wearing makeup and doing my hair for myself and not to please others. If you choose not too - that is your business and no one else. Inner beauty of a person is truly what counts - how your act towards others and self respect.

This actually almost made me tear up a bit. It's so sad how this is considered "activism" as it should just be "normal." I love her message, and she's right - she is rad!! I think many older women who have aged naturally are more beautiful than those who have tried to fake youthfulness with surgery and injections. You can always tell, and the women who age naturally and learn to embrace it have this beautiful, radiant authenticity and confidence around them, while those who have altered their face feel disconnected and insecure. There's always this energy of unease. On the other hand, as a woman myself who is starting to face the aging process, I TOTALLY get the immense pressure that is felt to continue looking a certain way. We all just gotta keep doing the inner work, like Justine said!

I love stumbling upon articles that led me to search for a RUclips of Justine Bateman discussing the priority of aging gracefully! Thank you, Justine and other influential voices, for leading the way and stomping out the fear women have in their skin.
Clothe yourself in your own power, interests, and wisdom rather than following the rabbit trails that others follow. They spend tons of money trying to look like someone other than themselves-why? Who do women (and men) prefer to look like other than naturally comfortable in their own skin?
I'd rather surround myself with people who see a person's beauty within rather than try to compete for attention or meet others' checklist expectations. Those who play judge + jury are inevitably here today and gone tomorrow, and they are typically not even in your close-knit circle of family and friends. The truth is that spite-biting, disrespectful, hateful people will always exist, and no one will ever meet their extreme requirements, demands, and expectations.
Thank you, Justine Bateman and others like her, for speaking up about gracefully flourishing in the culture. You are dearly loved and appreciated by every age group who has gracefully followed the same narrow path of aging of feeling entirely comfortable in your skin.
Yes, the world is a stage, but one should refrain from performing to the point of losing one's true identity! ❣

I find aging beautiful and I do think we should be embracing it. Such a shame so many of us want to try and erase something that is natural.

Promising I would “catch up” to them when my kids were a bit older. Now I see them and cringe. It’s a large , disproportionate facial features. Face just grows larger and they start all looking the same? Can’t describe why exactly, but I’m just thankful I didn’t jump onboard. I choose to continue to work on the inside and keeping the soul bright. ✌️💕

@havefaithincards. You should wait to be 50 or 55. The réel aging is beginning in the 50's. Having a few wrinkles or a dozens of grey hair, a little ponds to lost and being on 2 months diets...all these cosmetic things..is not aging..,. The réel aging is not being able to do things that you were doing easily or at will before.Or losing the désire of doing these things....And expérience loss ( death of siblings, friends, people in social cercle, former professors, tho be reluctant to new habits like TikTok or Tinder for instance ( even if you re a mature geek) ....etc) and the true meaning of the cycle of life ( the children becoming adults). You are becoming a full mature person whenever your understand almost physically and intimally that the time is count...like in a clockwork...As a result you decide to avoid peoole and situations wich are point less in your own développent and accept to be dislike.... People , especially women, are unfortunataly to focus on cosmétic nowadays and looks.

I think it depends on the individual. Some people keep it all natural, others bleach their teeth or paint their nails, use make up, trim off dried hair, color their hair, get Botox or have cosmetic surgery. All of these techniques are used to look more radiant or look your best or be more youthful looking. I think it depends on the person and their reasoning behind it. Some people aren’t trying to look 20 years younger but just a more refreshed look. I think it’s really important to not start thinking everyone has to have the same outlook on this. What’s really bothersome, is the pressure put on young people to look perfect and never age and never get a chance to develope who they really are as a person But if a mature person decides to whiten their teeth or get a little Botox to look their best, I don’t think there is any great harm in that. A lot of people loose weight to look more youthful, but for some reason, that’s not stigmatized.

    Justine Bateman *is* totally RAD
    I turned 55 on March 8th.
I stopped coloring my roots 4yrs ago in 2019
My beautiful dark long hair now has custom, privileged “highlights”
SO not bragging, as I’m quite shy but also personable, friendly & approachable….I’ve been hit on for years by both men and women.
Even though my gray is coming out in gorgeous patterns - think Bonnie Rait- still mostly dark though…
Still to this day at 55, I get looks and hit on all the time by both men and women … and oftentimes much younger than me.
I dress how I wanna dress, my vibe and aura is chill & sincere so I guess…
    that’s why people approach me
    BOTTOMLINE:
It is a Privilege to get older. Trust me.
I’ve lost very close people younger than me.
RELAX. Stop keeping up with The Jones
