I'm 59 and I have gotten over my fear of getting older by being honest about my age. To myself and to others. Meaning, I have never lied about my age or tried to hide it. I have many female friends who have been lying about their age for years. Yet, they are also lying to themselves. When I reached my forties, I found myself purposely telling people how old I was as a way to always make myself face up to it. I have gained self acceptance this way and it really works for me. Whenever I have a birthday, I always announce the age I have just turned. It forces you to get comfortable with the reactions of others, be it male or female. I have never tried to present myself as being younger than I really am. Yes, it is painful when you start approaching 60, when inside, you still feel like a 20 year old. The way you feel about yourself lots of times, does not match the "number". Yet, by announcing the number out loud, you are facing up to it and you get comfortable with it. There are alot of people who look younger than their supposed age and that's great for them. However, there are also lots of people who might possibly look older than what their "number" is. The number starts to become an irrelevant thing once you get used to announcing it to yourself and others. It's how you feel inside that counts. How are you living your life? If you are full of joy and treating people well then you are beautiful and everyone can clearly see it.
None of my grandmothers had plastic surgery, they acted their age, they dressed their age…. BUT…. The cleaned themselves up, had their hair neatly styled and makeup was elegant and appropriate…they felt good, and looked good and it showed!! Aging is not a reason to let yourself go. There is absolutely nothing wrong with aging GRACEFULLY…..
I think Justine likes her unique, no-foundation look. Maybe to her, that is graceful. I have a long list of grievances with my mom, but one thing I appreciate is that she never wasted much time on vanity. Her look is tidy and put together, and though I do wish she was able to teach me things about makeup and grooming etc that I had to learn on my own, I respect that her energies when we were growing up went elsewhere besides on her looks. I respect Justine similarly.
what’s not graceful about her though… I don’t get your point here. Take off the makeup and stop doing their hair and what happens? Why are we held to those standards? Aging is graceful, no matter what aging looks like to you.
She’s mistaken for being angry & bitter for not looking young & cute anymore. But she’s not that at all. She’s really inspirational for anyone aging (male or female). She’s saying you may hit some barrier as you age, but just move on past it. She’s great!

It's not just about geting "older" looking. It's more about accepting the beauty that you have, regardless if it's not perceived to be beautiful by others.
@Ray C her point is she doesn’t give a F that you think that. She doesn’t have to do anything just because you or anyone else thinks she does. She has important things to think about and what others think about her looks ain’t one of them anymore.
I really don't understand why people are afraid to age. I will be 50 next year and i'm excited. I've already stopped having a period and I'm in the best shape I've been in a long time. Sure it is difficult to find a job at my age but I'm determined to have the best life I can have.
I've been rewatching Family Ties - one of my all-time favorites. She was so exceptionally talented at such a young age (everyone on that show was). She gave so much depth, humor and charm to Mallory. Another actress could've easily made that character boring and shallow. But her facial expressions, gestures, and so many other little things conveyed great talent.
Getting old is just part of life, but our society treats you like you're invisible and not having any value. We live in a plastic world and ageism most definitely exists. Younger generations behave like they invented the wheel and everything before them didn't matter. Getting old sucks and I have gone into a number of depression bouts since I was 40. I will be 53 next week--no botox, plastic surgery, etc. of any kind. Once you start getting things done, when do you stop? Enough with the chemicals and implants. How can this stuff not affect you adversely? Really good seeing Justine!
Justine’s skin may have aged more than most at 57 but her message is so empowering and so importing and so freeing …I believe things happen for a reason. I don’t think she’s aged more than most. That’s untrue. Notice she is not wearing makeup whereas perhaps most other women would. I think her hair style is horrible, but that’s only my opinion. I do believe if she had a softer style, she’d be even more beautiful.
She's dying her hair. So, what's the point of this stance? I also disagree with her about the fear being inside yourself before you aged. The fear is because you've aged! But, most important to me is that if someone wants to do something to look younger, DO IT! We work out to keep our bodies in shape. Why not fight gravity? If you want to do it, no one should make you feel that it isn't right to do.
Unfortunately it's society and social media that promotes youth...Unfortunately even other older people prefer youth. Let's embrace who we are and love ❤️ ourselves as we age
Love this attitude. Its called reality. She is wise, rooted, grounded and spits total facts. You can look good at any age its all in how you present yourself. I live/work in one of the wealthiest towns in America and the population skews older and let me tell you the ladies with all the work look so much older in the end. The ladies who just took really good care of their skin but let themselves age naturally look much better. Even with some wrinkles they manage to look younger as the facelifts and fillers and eye lifts all end up adding up and you look really waxing, tight and weird not young at all. The natural women still have something 'youthful' about them their spirt, their attitude and the fact you can see they were a total knockout back in the day and still are extremely beautiful and desired by men of all ages. The ones with all the work the men really don't like they freely and openly talk about this. I bartend so I hear and see it all lol.
Sad how so many people here are totally missing what she's saying, even criticizing her. Women are constantly bombarded with antiaging. 'spend spend to look younger' (which I think she would say is a f-ing fallacy) Obsessing and spending thousands on something that's fleeting is sad. I think what she's saying is believe in your wonderous self, and embrace your beautiful short life. Sadly too few in the public eye are saying it. She's a brave voice, we should be thankful.
Yes we all get older - funny how women come out embracing their age once they start to show signs of age - just be grateful God wakes you up in the morning - He made you who you are and in His perfection.
This conversation will ALWAYS be relevant because there will ALWAYS be a huge percentage of the female population who simply cannot afford to get "work" done. Period. Even if you say to yourself that you can afford the Botox, fillers, lazers, surgeries...there is always the question in your mind: Is this REALLY where my hard earned money should be directed? We all want to stay relevant and feel valuable. Do I put my money towards my skin or towards something that will be relevant long after I die? I also notice that the more visible people like Justine Bateman are in the media, and the more I look at these untouched faces, the more my brain normalizes them and sees them as beautiful.♥️🇨🇦
If we take care of ourselves and our health we should age gracefully. They have over the counter skincare products that really work now and not expensive at all. People don't have to resort to going under the knife anymore.
I'm in my 50s and have faced various challenges, but losing my teeth has been the most difficult. I had nice teeth for years, but neglected them, leading to them all being extracted. While this has been beneficial for my overall health, it has significantly changed my diet and my feelings about my appearance. The aging issue doesn't affect just women.
Thank God for people like Justine.I always felt social media has some pluses but so many more negatives for our youth and how we feel about ourselves and our mental health.
She is smart and talented and creative. Society is warped. About looks and pretty much most things. The Kardashians alone are damaging young women and girls everywhere.
She's aged far more than what 57 should look like because of her well publicized eating disorder in her early 20s. Good for her. Whatever works for you as an individual is your choice. Looking good and feeling good about yourself is a personal journey.
Didn’t know she had eating disorders, that actually brings a whole new perspective to this. She’s clearly been fighting the demon of self-image/body-image for a long time, she has a lot at stake, and she’s not going to sink back into it. Makes me have even more compassion for her knowing that. Keep going, Justine!
Your comment is pure judgement which only tells me that you are either deeply insecure about your aging and have had cosmetic surgery...botox..fillers yourself and feel badly that you have....YOU MISSED the whole point!!! She talks about healing your inner wounds that created the insecurities of fear of not being ever enough
This is OUTSTANDING!!! I hope that this truth of healing the inner wounds within yourself will ulter your perception and allow yourselves to age organically! There is nothing more beautiful than when you're in the presence of someone who loves and respects themselves 👌🙏👌
good for her but I can't go her quite extreme stand. But looking good also helps make you feel good. A good balance of inner and outer "beauty" is achievable and healthy imo.
She described it exactly the way I do. I think if you're going someplace beautiful like Paris, the Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls or wherever....will you enjoy it less because you have a few wrinkles or maybe you have a few extra pounds? No of course not. You still see the beauty just like your younger self would.
For some reason…and yes I know she’s a little heavy on the eyeliner …but it’s more than that …as she ages her eyes get brighter and brighter ! So pretty.
Sorry but she looks so much older than her age. It's a free country, if people wants to feel better and improve their appearance, than by all means go for it !
Getting old is a part of life. I had my teeth fixed and a nose job, years ago. Every one is different, I speak for myself, and no one else. When I hit 60,who knows I might get a facelift, for now, Botox, chemical peels, and lazers. Not every one likes grey hair, wrinkles, and cellulite.
Everyone who is saying she must secretly hate her apperance is projecting how they feel about aging. If she cared that much about her wrinkles she'd get botox and plastic surgery. She clearly doesn't care about it, so I don't know why anyone else would.
I don't recognize the woman in the mirror anymore. It is upsetting. It is scary. Am I going to have surgery? No. But, it reminds me every day that I am getting older. Not much I can do about it. Just enjoy life :)
Good for her. And good that a woman in Hollywood has let herself just age, without having any work done. However, she has not aged well (of her face); she looks 20 years older than her 57 years. Something must've happened to accelerate the aging process on her face so incredibly.
The eyeliner is definitely not helping. She would greatly benefit with a healthy dose of self esteem if she got a good ole makeover and got her fade properly done. She wouldn’t have to treat make up like it’s the enemy exactly either. It’s perfectly ok to age but it’s perfectly ok to age gracefully however that may look. You can be in the middle so that you are excited at what you see when you look in the mirror. Protect your sacred femininity, cherish your skin, don’t smoke past a certain age, and use a skin routine and your aging will be good to you. Either way, it’s a free choice but while on tv I think she should have gotten a lovely make over to her facial area for the media press tour. Would’ve been lovely this one time. The eye liner is quite harsh at her age.
Like your opinion matters. You still don’t get it. And why so judgmental? Sounds like you need to do some personal re-evaluating on your self. And who says you have to get glammed up for television. She’s secure in her self, another thing you should figure out.
I disagree. I don't have fear at all. It makes me feel good if I look good. I don't spend all of my time thinking about it. For example, I had braces as a kid and hated them. Now I have beautiful, straight teeth and I am so thankful and proud of my smile. I get if you don't care about aging and looking older, that is your right. Don't criticize those of us who love beauty and enjoy products/procedures that make us look our best. Fear plays no part in my narrative. Sorry it does in yours, Justine.
Totally agree! I think the fact that she never talks about how her serious decades long eating disorder caused her premature aging is dishonest and potentially harmful to young women who see her on talk shows. She could be helping people but instead is kind of bashing those who care about their looks - it's maddening and toxic, imho. This is not normal aging - it's premature aging from years of abuse.
@@MothGirl007 Oh wow! I wondered if she had had an eating disorder as she has so much loose skin on her face. Also, the skin is the largest organ on your body so to take good care of it is important to most people. I just don't buy her rhetoric!

I've found your comment very interesting ...and I wanted to ask (no shade really) why do you think, you/we associate looking our best with looking young or younger?🤔
wonderful video! but what about the person who was treated well when they were youthful..and when then get older their treated differently??? i seen this in my life.. so how your treated can effect how your feel about yourself! .. so how can aging not affect you... but i agree with Justine..you must embrace aging.... i see men who i knew as a teenager...and they have younger woman..10 years.younger for example..i dont see that all the time..and sometimes they like the person not because their younger but its just because of the chemistry between them ..but their are guys think younger is better and just the attitude gets on my nerves..
Yes - she had a very serious eating disorder for decades and was also a heavy smoker as well. She abused her body for years and yet she never mentions that on all these talk shows she goes on. It's the reason she looks 20 years older than her actual age.
I’m sorry but I disagree with Justine Bateman. I feel it’s good for us women to look good on the outside and feel good on the inside and it doesn’t mean that you’re less of a person because you’re paying attention to what you look like on the outside. I think Justine Bateman is the wrong person to be talking about any of this.
I agree 100% Is she still acting? If not, she doesn't have to care about how old she looks. It's fine if she's ok with it, but to say that it's wrong to have procedures done is just WRONG!
This is what happens when you smoke and don't protect from the sun. She is not happy with her looks I just don't believe that. She knows what she's done to get to where she is. You can't turn back the clock but you can always wind it up again!
@@cathyridley3005 If she wanted to she could get plastic surgery and botox. She could afford it. Clearly she is content with where she is at and that is that.
Justine Bateman is a beautiful woman. Your face is FINE! I can’t believe it’s even a thing to talk about. But I guess if you’re in Hollywood and you haven’t resorted to any plastic surgeries and such, then it’s a thing. Look, I do think your hair drags your face down though, why not have a softer hairstyle? Thats honestly my only opinion that I think a softer hairstyle instead of one that drags your face to the ground, would immediately take 10 years off you. X❤
good for her but maybe a bit of lipstick and she won't look 70 + plus year old? her face looks way older than her hands...normally is the way around, your hands tell your age vs the face
Wow, just found this woman. SUCH an important conversation to have. I really hope the pendulum swings back the other way, because all the fillers and Botox that I see everywhere are so wrong.
She is too extreme…. She should just get a new hair style that would fit her and compliment her.. This is way outdated…. Everyone needs to update themselves. I hate plastic surgery, but this is ridiculous
A nice retirement/affordable housing/affordable groceries/affordable cars/no agism in the wk place would take the fear of aging away....when ur wealthy or secure like JB, why worry about aging!!
It‘s so crazy watching those two presenters who have completely botoxed face with almost no real face movement and pretending as if they understand and agree with this naturally beautiful older woman.
I'm sorry but she clearly looks older than her actual age, however it's great that she feels confident and happy about her life. Even with life struggles she has accomplished a lot and it seems that she has learned from her past mistakes and is embracing life as is. With that being said, 57 is not OLD!!! There are men and women this age and older who have aged gracefully. There are also people who choose to have enhancements done, either way there should be no judgement.
Comparison is the thief of joy

Thank God for people like Justine.I always felt social media has some pluses but so many more negatives for our youth and how we feel about ourselves and our mental health.
gosh she is wise beyond her years AND looks!!!!!!!!!!!!!
she is amazing
She is smart and talented and creative. Society is warped. About looks and pretty much most things. The Kardashians alone are damaging young women and girls everywhere.
She's aged far more than what 57 should look like because of her well publicized eating disorder in her early 20s. Good for her. Whatever works for you as an individual is your choice. Looking good and feeling good about yourself is a personal journey.
She had an eating disorder? How do you know?
Well said!
@@teresafraser3049 - Justine feels good about herself.
She looks older than her actual age. That’s true.
But she’s confident enough not to care.
This is very positive and encouraging. What I get out of this is that women need to grow up and act and embrace their age.
She is still beautiful she has the most amazing eyes .
Justine’s words are a gift. ❤
What a woman ❤ Positive thinking ❤🎉🎉🎉
Justine is my kind of people.
Reality, we live in a world, time and place where looks and effort to look your best is refreshing & appreciated!
Look YOUR best… not like a fake Barbie kardashian or something.
So pretty.
Shes not aging well at all but no reason to be a hater. I sense lots of hidden anger more than a true aging advocate.
Well that was a great story for her.
Wow. I needed to see this. Thank you very much.
Sorry but she looks so much older than her age. It's a free country, if people wants to feel better and improve their appearance, than by all means go for it !
On the one hand she makes sooooo much sense, on the other hand her Anna Rexia is why she looks like she does.
Two truths can exist!!!
She’s right ❤
Getting old is a part of life. I had my teeth fixed and a nose job, years ago. Every one is different, I speak for myself, and no one else. When I hit 60,who knows I might get a facelift, for now, Botox, chemical peels, and lazers. Not every one likes grey hair, wrinkles, and cellulite.
she is a smart lady and is pretty
Thank you, Justine, for sharing your wisdom and knowledge with the world.
Everyone who is saying she must secretly hate her apperance is projecting how they feel about aging. If she cared that much about her wrinkles she'd get botox and plastic surgery. She clearly doesn't care about it, so I don't know why anyone else would.
Justine is Very cool and speaks the truth and she's also so philosophical... listen up girls and women!!😎👍🤩
Justine has a youthful energy.
Great message. I can see plastic surgeons wilting on the vine while watching this
@Sara Mill That's very unkind.
I don't recognize the woman in the mirror anymore. It is upsetting. It is scary. Am I going to have surgery? No. But, it reminds me every day that I am getting older. Not much I can do about it. Just enjoy life :)
It is said - when a door closes, another opens - so let the last one close, so the next one can open - great advice!
Hey, Justine. Can we use moisturizer and pluck our eyebrows?
NOOOO!!!
TRAITOR TO WOMANKIND!
Edit: okay, you may use kohl on your bottom lids. And hair dye.
Why
If you listen to her and believe in God, Justine has the faith of a child. God bless her. I like her.
Good for her. And good that a woman in Hollywood has let herself just age, without having any work done. However, she has not aged well (of her face); she looks 20 years older than her 57 years. Something must've happened to accelerate the aging process on her face so incredibly.
The California sun
She looks 57.
She’s pretty rough looking for 57
My point exactly , 57 isn't old , why would you want to embrace aging so young. I dont
I agree. The eyeliner isn’t great .
Raise your hand if you missed the entire point.
Judging her 'eyeliner' accomplishes WHAT precisely?
@@go2hellgrl lol tue
Like your opinion matters. You still don’t get it. And why so judgmental? Sounds like you need to do some personal re-evaluating on your self. And who says you have to get glammed up for television. She’s secure in her self, another thing you should figure out.
Thank you Justine😊
I thought I was looking at Bianca from EastEnders.
I'm 40 and she could totally get everything I'm working with.... She looks great
@@jennybaber3563 She had a very serious ED for YEARS and it totally shows, sadly. I don't buy her rhetoric either and actually think it's very negative.
@Moth Girl just stop. She's awesome
I've found your comment very interesting ...and I wanted to ask (no shade really) why do you think, you/we associate looking our best with looking young or younger?🤔
Her hands are really young looking. She is brilliant!.
Amen!!!!
Lord, I'm not gonna go trying to find a current article or video for Nancy McKeon. Some memories are better left in the past.
Justine Bateman is AWESOME!
Dang, this is deep!
Justine Bateman is officially the coolest chick ever. 🙌
wonderful video! but what about the person who was treated well when they were youthful..and when then get older their treated differently??? i seen this in my life.. so how your treated can effect how your feel about yourself! .. so how can aging not affect you... but i agree with Justine..you must embrace aging.... i see men who i knew as a teenager...and they have younger woman..10 years.younger for example..i dont see that all the time..and sometimes they like the person not because their younger but its just because of the chemistry between them ..but their are guys think younger is better and just the attitude gets on my nerves..
I have to say she does look way older than she should. But I guess it is easier to embrace it then fight it
She's 57 years old in reality what does a 57 year old woman suppose to look like?
This is what 57 looks for *her*... so she looks her age.
I know a lot of confident women who like to get a little "something" done now and then. Nothing wrong with that either!
But she looks 130 years old
Aging gracefully is a good thing, but aging in a way where she looks twice her age is yet another thing.
So true
A comparison is an act of violence
What happened to her in life. Did she go through some type of self abuse?
Yes - she had a very serious eating disorder for decades and was also a heavy smoker as well. She abused her body for years and yet she never mentions that on all these talk shows she goes on. It's the reason she looks 20 years older than her actual age.
@@MothGirl007
Okay thanks. Looks to me like she still has an eating disorder
@@MothGirl007its always the women who have aged badly that do interviews like this. if she looked good she would be sharing anti aging tips😂
She looks great
I’m sorry but I disagree with Justine Bateman. I feel it’s good for us women to look good on the outside and feel good on the inside and it doesn’t mean that you’re less of a person because you’re paying attention to what you look like on the outside. I think Justine Bateman is the wrong person to be talking about any of this.
Facts.
I agree 100% Is she still acting? If not, she doesn't have to care about how old she looks. It's fine if she's ok with it, but to say that it's wrong to have procedures done is just WRONG!
The eyeliner looks terrible on you. Put it on the lid, not underneath, if you need to wear it.
Lol true your right lol
ironically she'd look 20 years younger if she stopped with the 90s eyeliner
Probably tattooed on eyeliner.
I love her eyeliner
@@jmc5577 so what
Maybe it makes her happy 😊
She'd still have the Galapagos tortoise neck.
"...these ppl were famous enough to get a star...OR...had enough money to buy one..." HA!!! Justine giving away the game. Lol!
6:40 The stars are bought?
Yes
@@ninajohnson8389 I'm gonna get one
These tv personalities are so supportive of Justine while they spend thousands on plastic surgery and botox ...
This is what happens when you smoke and don't protect from the sun. She is not happy with her looks I just don't believe that. She knows what she's done to get to where she is. You can't turn back the clock but you can always wind it up again!
Omg lame
@@MBT372 Welcome to RUclips! This is where people express their opinions! Clearly, some are a little more educated and/or experienced than others . 🤔🙄
@@cathyridley3005 If she wanted to she could get plastic surgery and botox. She could afford it. Clearly she is content with where she is at and that is that.
@@jviddie Yes,I'm sure your right! 🤷
Justine is pretty. No doubt. But she looks older than her actual age.
Who cares?
Because she smokes which is not good for her health!
Thank You For Saying "Rad" - 1980's Kids Rule!!!!
Amen
If I look 1/2 as good as her when I turn 72
I don't get what the dark eyeliner is about.
If 57 is old? I am 64 so I must really be old.
People are overanalysing this. The only people that care about aging are the people on TV and film. Everyone else just ages normally.
