@@TheAmateurBikeBuilder no problem, I was introduced to it in Germany, I work in the car industry the design sector, when we build show cars any aluminium has to be finished by hand 🤪 I used autosol for years then I used mothers and I can't believe the difference, I still use autosol to start as it seems coarser but finish with the mother's..cheers
I may be tempted to buy an old Makita machine polisher for £60 Airways now do small buff wheels...cotton stitched. Wet sand is the only way to go...looking good. Menzerna do bar chrome polish as well..
I would paint the bracket under the frame. You'll end up taking to much off the alloy to get rid of the pits. That may affect its rigidity as it holds onto the engine. Tops job on the rest of the frame so far mate. 👍
I cannot imagine the number of hours you have spent getting that one side up to a lovely polished shine. That bottom piece is so badly pitted that black paint is the only way to go. In fact you might want to consider spraying all the way around to the matching point on the other side.
Can't you use a grinder with a sandpaper disc for that bad pitted area? Just to "scrape" of a layer? Dunno just thinking. Anyway, if in the end painting it black makes your life easier, I would say go for it! The frame looks very nice!!!! 👍.
One thing i notice people don't do that much with their bikes is upgrade the horn. I put a air horn on my busa just so it didn't sound like a bicycle horn when i needed it Seems to get peoples attention better. ( either that or the stereo not sure which lol ) Its coming along nicely though. You almost have that mirror shine on it.... probably after you polish it some im guessing. As for the part you are thinking black on if your putting on a normal busa fairing i would go with black since no one will see that part... unless you want to spend the time sanding it down... ( i wouldnt bother if no one sees it )
Thanks Someone, Horn upgrade, hadn't actually thought of it to be honest, the frame is getting there slowly, the fairing isnt going back on its staying naked
@@TheAmateurBikeBuilder Something to think about i guess for the horn. I did it to mine and will never go back to the bike horn. Seems like that one didnt work or they didnt hear it. The air horn gets peoples attention faster just finding a spot to mount one was the hardest part. I made a bracket and mounted mine under the seat. Had it in the front near the radiator but it would hit sometimes on the front fender so i changed it. I just got one from autozone that was a horn and compressor in one. (less than a hundred bucks )
long work well rewarded. what will you do about the frame welds...difficult to polish. i would definiately go black on that part of the frame...I think it will 'slim' down the side profile.
Looking good! While polished metal does look good, the up keep of it doesn't appeal to me, just like chrome doesn't really do it for me either. However, tastefully done, and not overdone, it does look good!
Thanks D.Fresh, im not going for overkill, just frame and swingarm and footrest hangers, mixed with black accents and the flip paint, hopefully will turn out good
ABB,..l see you do alot of custom so l could use some insight . I have a 2014 gsxr 1000 and l'm looking to polish my frame but I'm not sure if the frame is painted from factory or powder coated . Can you tell me how to remove the black coating to get to the aluminum? Any advice would be highly appreciated. The bike has less than 1200 mile so its all factory. Thank you in advance.
Hello Narshawn, most are anodized, as was the Busa and it took ages to remove it all, mine was all done by hand with sandpaper working through the grades then onto wet n dry upto 2000 grit
That’s come out lovely mate. I did struggle with the sound at the start of the vid, but seemed to get better as it went on. I’d defo paint that lower section black, you’ll be there forever trying to get those pitted marks out! Will you be painting the cam covers and engine casings too? Where does it all end mate??!!! Great vid.
Thanks Jonboy, will check the mic, i think your right that is the way to go, haven't even thought about the engine casings, yes where does it end, its evolving by it self i think
I can highly recommend mother's polish , really nice polish 😁
Thanks, appreciate your comment, i am using Belgom Alu at the moment, but will have a look

Careful mate, when you ride that out, people will think you're Puff Daddy... Top result for days hard graft.. Pip pip... Del.
Cheers Del, lol, i hope not, still got the other side to do yet
Looking good, it takes alot of Patience and Dedication to do what your doing, Well done , It can be a bit dirty tho. So keep up the good work Chap.
Cheers Les, it had to be done, especially after doing the swingarm, it made the frame look dirty, still lots to do

Go for it! thanks, it did take a while, but worth it
Your hard work will pay off keep it up and I would paint bracket and head stock black if it was me .
Thanks Colin, your right it is the right way to go
Half way there Keith fantastic finish mate
Looking great! I wouldn't have had the patience 😀
Do you have to protect the polished surfaces with anything after to stop it tarnishing?
Thanks Tom, i find it quite therapeutic, strange i know
i use Belgom alu polish, it is a wax based polish and last for a few weeks before you have to re-apply,

Tops job on the rest of the frame so far mate. 👍
Cheers Luke, looks like paint it black is the popular choice, and easier as well, still got the rest of the frame to do yet
I smooth them out with 40 grit and a orbital..I just round them off smooth and remove least as possible

Thanks Edward, i lost count, found it easier...lol, i think you are right with the black paint

Cheers Christopher, its a good point, i did try off camera, the pitting is quite bad, so paint maybe the only way forward

Cheers Remfanuk, frame welds will be lightly polished to hopefully blend in, i think your right with the black, everyone is saying that to

Appreciate that, thanks

How or with what do I manage to catch the area that is like rough?
With the rough area of the frame, i started with 80 grit and worked through to 3000 grit, it did take a long time
That wouldn't look our of place if you paint that black.
Cheers Banditnev. appreciate your comment
