- Why Ratings Kill Your Enjoyment
Just because it's your favorite doesn't mean it has to be mine. Let's talk about why at first glance we look at ratings the way we do.

I don't care about the ratings I just want to watch anime
You're the hero I need.

As a reviewer ratings have been the double edged sword of my career. They can give your review meaning and authority while simultaneously being a point of internal struggle and stress when I am sitting there trying to compare to completely different pieces of art to one another and figuring out which series is better deserving of some arbitrary decimal point. I can tell you one thing for sure, when I started just making notes of what I liked or didn't' like about a piece of work and not assigning a value to it, I started enjoying the works much more than I did when I went into it with a preverbal clipboard and grading sheet in my hands scoring the work as I went along. What an great thought provoking video Augie, awesome stuff!
People really do let other’s opinions affect their own waaaay too much, especially when it comes to pop culture stuff
I appreciate this vid of yours. It's tough to take internet criticism seriously because many opinions are not genuine or false. Some people bash shows and spread unserious slander just because it's not their favorite or conflicts with their values. I don't trust IMDb or mal because they often face review bombing instead of well thought reviews.
Haven't even watched the video fully yet, but the title's definitely true. There's always those moments, even as a creator, when I let loose and enjoy the media without thinking much about anything. Those usually end up being the series I enjoy most tbh
Exactly I really feel this video will resonate more with creators than anyone cause that’s on the dot.
This is why when I start a new series I just look at the synopsis and read/watch it. I'll look at the ratings after though after I've made my opinion because it's pretty interesting to see what everyone thinks about it.
I don't know why i am like this but i enjoy even the low rated movies and shows and i think this is like a blessing to me 🤜🏻🤛🏻
I use ratings to gauge how much I think I will like a series and the common consensus on said series
Personally, ratings don't really affect my enjoyment on a series. It just makes me curious on why it's so good. It only depends on the show if they actually deliver. Fmab for example is a show I wanted to check out since it was the highest rated anime in myanimelist and it actually ended up being one of my favorites. I didn't expect to like it that much but fmab blew my expectations out of the water. As long as the series is written well, the ratings wouldn't affect much to me.
For my story I love and no one can change my mind on it Is the manga Diamond in the Rough. Bakugan 2007. Ben 10 2005 and big fish
I can't tell you how many times I replayed that Bakugan game on the PS2 that was my jam.
The way I've see some ppl lose their minds when an anime overtakes Fmab in MAL is really smtg to behold. As long as a product is considered great by most ppl, the rating shouldn't matter.
I’ve learned to ignore ratings and just wait until the actual content is out so I can talk about it with my friends and other people that have seen it. Big time Hollywood reviewers often review movies/shows/series with some type of bias.
Great video & topic. You speam the truth! The stories I feel nothing will chamge my opinion about them being masterpieces are One Piece, Final Fantasy 14, Vinland Saga & Hunter x Hunter.
And that's how it should be 🙌
Never cared for/about movie critics, tv show critics or animanga critics for the most part besides a select few people who really know me or vice versa and folks I watch on YT like yourself Augie. Anyways I'll go into a new anime, show or movie and want to experience first hand for myself personally than go from there whether it's good or bad or worth recommending.

I only look at letterboxd ratings because it's ratings for ordinary people like me but I do say don't put weight into it because you might have expectations that's also why I stopped watching trailers
You're better than me I've already rewatched that OP LA trailer like 20 times lol.
I use ratings as a general barometer for what to watch if I'm unsure of what to start next. Anything with a consensus above 8/10 is usually good if it's in a genre I enjoy.
Tbh i dont let ratings go through my head im open minded if the series sucked it sucked if i loved and liked it dope. I dont mind watching some RUclipsrs who recommend things tho if i like it or not but i mainly follow youtubers who knows good taste
I think a good example is sword art online everyone says it is trash but it was not that bad… one piece goat zoro best character 👍
The simple thing is if you haven't matched it, don't form an opinion about it even from what others say.
This was me with Jjk season 1. On the internet, everyone was praising it for being even better than show like Naruto. I watched and I thought the first half was boring but the second half drew me.
Haven't seen jjk s2 yet but I'm hearing very high praise.
Yeah, I really need to get out and watch more stuff without worrying what this random number says, constantly worried about "wasting my time"

Social Media "reviews" may not matter much.
But big critics review site is a benchmark to see how good/bad the story are.
