Tomura will always be infinitely more interesting than AFO to me. We've seen him develop. His character is the literal failure of hero society. Personally Shigaraki is kinda why Horokoshi admits in the manga that Mahito of Jujutsu Kaisen is his favorite character. And honestly Mahito is like Shigaraki 2.0 and in my eyes does a much better job of being a wonderfully despicable character and Villain, though their perspectives are much different from each other, that being Shigaraki being the result of an over saturated hero society, while Mahito is a cursed spirit born from being the “spirit of Humanity” Mahito and Yuji Itadori felt like a greater version of Deku Vs Shigaraki even though their encounters amounted to two.

He created his ideology, found out friends who could belive in him and had an army of his own...The only thing left was for him to get rid of AFO. I think that Shigaraki's ultimate failure is to not have recognized AFO for the piece of shit that he is. As a fan of MHA, I have to admir Horikoshi's writting always had problems and it was never great, BUT, he kinda managed to always hide the faults with some interesging characters, dynamics and good conflicts, but either by his own desire to finish the series or maybe editor/publisher pressure he seems to be rushing everything, and for a story who never went to acrually tackle deeply the themes and problems it presented, having to make everything wrap up quickly really hurts it

I really liked how unlike many other shows the big bad wasn't a threatening force that has the rest of the story all planned out. It's just a dude that has no idea what he's doing, with no actual goal in mind. Then he slowly rises up through developing, training, and introspection as the show progresses to become a powerful antagonist the same way the protagonist usually has to rise up to become a hero.
All for one even touched on this when he says Shigaraki will become much more powerful with himself out of the picture, which is very similar to many heroes losing their mentors in most stories.

@SleepyWolf Not really. The story goes out of its way to characterise AFO as All Mights opposite, he's selfish, narcissistic and controlling. Everything we know about AFO as a person makes the whole passing on the torch bs, just because all might chose an actual successor doesn't mean AFO would. The problem is you are getting hung up on the successor thing and ignoring what we now know which changes the context of what he has said in the past. The tomura quirk line is him noting that the quirk isn't going to suit shigaraki because he's planning on possessing his body. The lines purpose is to just to highlight the idea that AFO is a guy that considers how compatible a quirk is when deciding whether or not to take it.
If you don't like AFO taking over shiggy fine but if you honestly think that it makes no sense then you no very little about AFO as a character and have barely paid attention to the story.

I might be biased because Shigaraki is one of my favorite characters from modern shonen, but I do seriously believe he's (or was?) one of the most compelling villains we've seen come out of the shonen demographic in recent years: the themes surrounding him, his characterization, his journey and development as a character, all the parallels he shared with the main protagonist and most of the important cast... AFO literally assassinated Shigaraki's potential to become one of the best antagonists in modern shounen for an incredibly dumb reason that he's not even good at executing. I could actually go into a rant on how dumb AFO is. I liked him in the beginning, and he was honestly a pretty intimidating figure that could've made for an excellent main antagonist. But you can't make him disappear for 200+ chapters, give Shigaraki some of the best in-depth character development, and raise the bar so high, only for AFO to usurp it all and then spend his time as the "true antagonist" planning on how to stress out a 16-year-old inside a cave.
I don't blame Horikoshi, I blame his editor. Apparently, he's had quite a few, but his second editor, allowed him to have quite a lot of creative freedom which led to him really stretching out his creative process and giving us the best arcs of MHA. But apparently, while popular in the West, they weren't so popular in the East, even a bit controversial. His awesome editor got replaced halfway through the War arc with a very infamous editor who is basically responsible for 3 promising shounen series' being axed. Horikoshi also seems a little burned out a sprinting to the finish, but I believe the controversy from his publisher and the eastern audience, his strict and infamous editor, wasn't really helping either.
In one of the chapters in the final arc, a one-note side character even says that all of these "it was all part of AFO's plan" 'plot twists' were really stupid, inconsistent, and repetitive. Writing a side character that calls your entire story you've spent years creating "stupid"? If that isn't a cry for help from the author, I don't know what is.

After the PLW we should've time-skipped to the 2nd year of school, or have a "rest period" were Shigaraki, now with a will of his own would gather more resources, mourn the death of Twice, really organize himself, while the students kept improving, constantly afraid of the next attack and Japan prepared for a war. Use this time to introduce Stars and Stripes, and even other unexplored sub-plots and then finish with the all-out attack of Heroes VS Villains, no AFO. It really pains me to see that "the story of how Deku became the number 1 hero" basically ends in his first year of school. Like... ultimately weather deku kill shiggy or saves him i think at the end of this the hero system will end up drastically changing especially with how the manga seems to be going rn

What I think is really interesting about Shigaraki, is that people interpret him in (drastically) different ways
For example, many say him attacking Toga and Dabi is just lashing out, while I others argue that he adapted Stains method he told him about earlier (people only show their true colors when faced with death).
    Or the U.S.J.:
Some look at him as a manchild who has no ideals (and the speech he gave was empty of true motivation) and just wants to destroy. On the the other hand, people say that he isn’t one, just because the heroes tell us that he is. Instead, he is rightfully upset about a major plan not working out because of something he couldn’t control. At this point, he also had ideals and shouts them out to the world, but then rejects them later on when being told that they are useless by everyone he trusts.
    Also, the AfO thing.
So many see it as his character development just being cut off in favor of making AfO the main villain (ngl it is upsetting as hell) and just throwing him away. However, I’ve also seen some argue that it was bound to happen since Shigaraki never managed to break out of the narrative of just being able to destroy wich AfO created for him.

Then Shigaraki battles AFO within his own body, or even creates a new AFO body and they literally 1v1v1 heros vs shigaraki vs AFO. And Tenko could be trained by Deku maybe, this new Tenko could even potentially get OFA quirk because he wouldn't have been born with decay quirk, due to the fact that Shigaraki would've still had that copy.

People complaining about AFO taking over Shigaraki's place as the final villain (currently, there's still time for that to change) are looking at the great parallels between Shigaraki and Deku while ignoring the parallels between AFO and All Might. All Might chose Deku as his successor in order to pass the torch on to the next generation, putting all his hopes in him as well as the rest of the 1-A students because they represent the future. AFO represents the distant past who refuses to trust anyone other than himself and can't let go, can't trust others to carry on his will. He chose Shigaraki to be his new container, rather than a successor. Just as Shigaraki and Deku are parallels to each other AFO and All Might are as well. That's what I believe, at least.

  • @peachcloudx1672
    @peachcloudx1672 Год назад +1

Honestly, I know a lot of people are upset at Horikoshi for making Shigaraki be taken over by AFO. But the way I see it, that was always the point. AFO is selfish, he never cared about Shigaraki as someone who would truly become the next him, he groomed and used him for his own benefit. The audience, as well as Shigaraki himself are fooled into thinking that there's some level of trust that AFO has in him, that he's worthy of inheriting AFO, and sure there is, because Shiggy really went and succeeded.
It just brings home the fact that Shigaraki is a victim despite not being a perfect victim like Eri for example. And his regression also makes sense since that loss of agency, he's lost the connections he had with the league (AFO hasn't even allowed him to communicate with them). And now what we see what's left of him is represented by Tenko surrounded by hands. I for one, am not entirely sure where Horikoshi will take Shigaraki's character, but he's always been written with great care. I'm sure Shigaraki will beat AFO, whether it be by his own power or with Izuku's help.
