Personally, I prefer the classics, like Sonic 2 and 3… But probably cuz I grew up with my dad’s Genesis… and then after those I like Generations… but then Frontiers.
Sonic Frontiers is AMAZING! I LOVE this game SO much! 100%ed the first island in about 13 hours, and I can't wait to do more! Sadly, too sick rn to play, but BOY, do I wish I could! X'D Sonic Frontiers is AWESOME! The best Sonic game I've played since 2009! S damn good! The story, music, combat, gameplay - it's SO good and fun and incredible! >:D
There were very good sonic games since 2009, you just didn't make them, Sonic Mania, Sonic Colors Ultimate & Sonic Generations. there were bad sonic games but very good ones too.
@@giannid.7794 Sonic Mania is on my list, but I haven't played it yet. Excited for it, though! Sonic Colors (the OG on Wii), which I did play, didn't impress me very much. Sonic Generations, also played, didn't do much for me either. I'm also talking story-wise/character writing here, and I thought all of these games' stories and characters (of the ones I played) were lackluster, if not badly characterized, and didn't feel LIKE Sonic to me. (Sonic Forces was the worst ever writing/character-wise, though, to me.) But that's just my personal opinion. *shrugs*
The PC or current gen systems are definitely the optimal way to play Frontiers, the Switch version is really just for that portability and the past gen versions are just ok. Frontiers as a game though is an incredible experience and a must play Sonic game! Sure it's not perfect, but it's so much fun and I really love how this game lets you play it your own way! And the Titan Boss Fights are so HYPE and badass!
They quality and creativity of these videos keep getting better and better. I love to just watch for the creator and not just the content. GG. Good stuff.
It's definitely got a lot to iron out however I've got to say I haven't had this much fun with a Sonic game in years. I haven't finished a single Sonic game other than Adventure 2 because the games just don't hold me, but I am definitely sticking with this one until I get to the end. I hope they do actually stick with this and continue to develop on this idea.

I really loved Sonic Frontiers, I haven't had so much fun with a 3D Sonic game since Generations and the game made me excited for the future of the franchise, yeah... the Switch version has a lot of flaws (especially in the part "open-zone") but I think this is to be expected from more powerful console ports for the Switch, I still managed to have a good time with this version, the cyber-space and cutscenes still look pretty good on the Switch, it was just the open-world one that I really stopped and looked at, yeah... it doesn't look so pretty, but I still had a good experience with the Switch version. Honestly, I would even say that looking prettier than Pokémon Scarlet and Violet despite everything.
Sega, don't listen to this madman, you have the perfect base to build upon, please build upon it! Sorry Wood! I love you! But after being a Sonic fan for nearly 3 decades, this is the best they've done in nearly 2 decades! Please don't discourage them by calling it Sonic Breath of the Wild, it's not nearly that at all. We don't want more Green Hill, we want less, and what they did aesthetically was amazing. And please, only discourage them from continuing switch support, which I'm sorry, but at the point, it's a post gen system. Everything they did for Frontiers is fantastic and they finally managed to knock Sonic Adventure 2 out as my number 1 Sonic title. Please! Do what you're doing and improve on it! Thank you Sega, and Sonic Team!
My favorite thing about this game is that it’s a collectathon created for people who hate collectathons. You can just skip all the collectible thresholds required to progress the story by grinding the fishing and cooking mini games for a few minutes.
I’m not being sarcastic but why would I want to play the game then? I can skip the game entirely and watch a cutscenes movie on RUclips and listen to the boss music on Apple Music or Spotify.
@@NinjaXM0 For me personally, the titan fights. (To clarify you aren’t skipping the story, itself, you would be skipping the collecting inbetween the story.)
While the game does have many similarities to BOTW, there is something I feel this game did better than Zelda. I know I know this is a Nintendo channel. But I actually think the open world in Sonic Frontiers is more fun to explore and traverse than BOTW. BOTW has a ton of open room to do so much yet also nothing...and also very slowly. Similar to games like Spider-man PS4, Sonic Frontiers is super fun to traverse the open world and with plenty to do along the way and you never feel the "need" to fast travel. Frankly if BOTW didn't have fast travel I'd kill myself. There's no way I'm running to the other side of the map at Link's speed, horseback or not. However if there were more puzzles and along the way it would keep the player going I think. I'd love to see BOTW 2 do a similar thing by making the open world so fun to travel and explore that you don't "need" to fast travel.
my main problem with sonic frontiers is that it looks like sonic was modded into the world, because he doesn't fit in with the rest of the world AT ALL, I mean everything else is, high graphics, realistic, and HUGE, but then you have sonic who looks like a smooth plastic blue hedgehog in comparison, he just doesn't fit in that well, and it keeps putting me off, so much so, that I can't bring myself to play it
13:44 to be fair...in this game sonic's contol really improved upon you see in the open-zone he control ls very well...but in cyberspace he controls differently
afterall switch is portable one , if want to compare its better to compare with portable devices as well. its like comparing gaming pc with a gaming laptop and of course pc is better but for people who don't really have time , the portability is a vital point. i can play switch everywhere including in cars or while works or chilling at cafe but playstation can only played at home. and yeah we are the same, gameplay over graphic always.
This is so strange, Sonic finally got a push in the right direction and it's very wierd to see. It's basically Zelda plus Sonic but it's still a step in the right direction, and in all fairness this could lead to Sega allowing another game like this more budget and effort to make it something worth wild
Thing is, i dont understand the comparison to breath of the wild, to me its more mario odyssey with sonic and zelda elements, a couple big worlds to explore, memory tokens ((moons)) to collect, purple coins, platforming everywhere, 2D ((odyssey)) Climbing, combat, cyberspace, lore, more realistic environments, epic bosses, puzzles, koco ((botw))
@@Br1ckCulture I think it's just with the majority of the game it feels like breath of the wild, I mean those are good points of compassion to Mario Odyssey but still the main gameplay is very open world feeling and a more muted but still colorful world where Mario was just color. The game has many elements you'll find in any game which isn't unusual it just had so many similarities to botw that it's hard not to connect the 2, it ain't a clone it just took alot of inspiration for botw which isn't 100% bad it just takes away from the experience sense it is a little more sloppy than botw and sense that game was a huge hit it is really noticable
@@youtuner9031 i think its more like odyssey, just my opinion, especially with the gameplay loop, being compared to zelda isnt a bad thing for sure, but i dont think the muted colours and gameplay add to that
I loved watching you play this on Twitch, especially when you changed the soundtrack so we were listening to the classic Sonic music! Edit: and just got to the part where you mentioned that 😂
I like you Wood, but I feel like you went into this game expecting it to suck so no matter how good it was in your mind it was going to suck. It's not perfect, not even close but it's the best Sonic game we've gotten since Adventure 2. I think it might be good for the franchise because it's a huge step in the right direction. Time will tell. But it's not as bad as you made it out to be.
Exactly. I enjoy Wood and his videos, but this entire video was trashing the game. It's an amazing game and definitely the best since Adventure. This review just ain't it, chief.
Congratulations on moving to PA. Glad you could join us. If you’re in the Northeast Pa area and would like ideas of things to do just let me know. I’d be glad to help.
It's Sonic's plane?? In the old cartoon, (way before sonic x) it was Tails plane.. Right? If I ever play this game, it'll be on Steam, with mods that adds fixes, replace the music with Sonic Adventure 2 Battle music, and maybe an overall that changes the textures to match the classic square style of older Sonic titles.
Im getting sonic frontiers for Christmas on the switch already brought and wrapped. I hope its not that bad as been excited about playing the new style of sonic breath of fresh air from other sonic games. Now you got me worried that I wasted £50 why why why 😆. Also heard bad things about pokemon scarlet and violet but after watching Eewona play it it's definitely not as bad as most are making it out to be. Same with sparks of hope all games im getting for Christmas look amazing and I'm litterly counting down the days now to play these amazing games.
I, personally, think the game is still very pretty on Switch (the pop in doesn't bother me at all, personally), and I think the music is sad, but calm and VERY pretty, which fits the more serious game tone! I've been playing Sonic games since the OG, and I LOVE this game, so I don't think you have anything to worry about! Hope you have a ton of fun! :D
Play it on capable hardware and we can stop comparing everything open world to breath of the wild lol, so many people think that game is so revolutionary when in reality it’s a sandbox that’s been around long before it came out on the wii u
The controls can be tweaked in the menu, so thats a non issue really. As for the pop-in, yeah its kinda bad. As for the botw comparison? I dont think so really. Botw had a lot of empty spaces, Sonic has something to do every 2 feet. Botw didnt invent anything, and while this game does get its inspiration from it, its not 'just botw with sonic' The game isnt perfect, which is why its not a 10/10. It's an 8/10 because of the issues, maybe a 7 if you're really nitpicking. But the good counters the issues quite a bit. Which is why its not a 6 or a 5 either. The switch does look worse but i mean...that's just the Switch for you, its stable though. Which is more than can be said about pokemon. All in all, a great game, and worth playing. Also the price thing was a glitch, its not actually gone down.
Just wanted to say thanks as this review helped me decide to go with the PS5 version of the game. (Which was on sale digitally for about £35 if I remember correctly). I had been playing Botw on my switch and almost bought the switch version of sonic frontiers... Probably a good job I didn't. At the time of writing I'm currently looking for hearts and those keys... I'm not keen on the S rank requirements atm. I did try upgrading sonic's speed on the island but I don't think it affects the cyber stages. Also I played more than 4 hours when I bought it and... I got a headache, I'm blaming the intense graphics :P The music reminds me of the game called Redout... You should give it a go if you ever play racing games, or if you haven't already.
Okay graphically and maybe some sound design is BOTW but the game open world game play and story line totally reminds me of the Saints Row the 4th. You can power up go, really fast, fly everywhere, mini missions in the map and in the mean time you go in and out of portals to the digital world where your friends are trapped. This is basically Saints Row the 4th again told through Sonic fanfare.
This really just sounds like how a Botw fan views this game, fun review, but he definitely misses some things other people would notice like the significance of parts of the story or some of the more advanced tips for handling Sonics controls better, even stuff like being able to customize his turning speed, his boosting speed, etc.
Calling the story ‘convoluted and multiverse’ (when it’s really rather simple and I’ve not seen multiple universes anywhere here) and the constant comparisons between this and Zelda when they really aren’t that similar in practice besides the concepts themselves… just lost me reaaaal quick. Good points were made, but if Zelda:BOTW was your favourite game it’d stand to reason that the differences between the two would be even clearer to you, that it’s not just… sonic running around doing zelda stuff. That whole tangent about Zelda kind of muddled your actual point of the world not looking ‘sonic-y’ which I wholeheartedly agree with. The koco might sound like koroks in concept but the way you find them in-game doesn’t give the same feeling at all. Of course, inspiration was clearly drawn, but I dunno, something felt off about these complaints being half well-made and half lost in blindly comparing. Still, I like the way some youtubers share their thoughts instead of trying to be ‘as correct as possible’ so even though all of that irked me, you just keep doing what you’re doing.

Love how he left his phone with Sonic outside during the skit
I absolutely love this game. My favorite sonic game by a Mile.
IKR😂😂😂😂😊😊😊😊😊
*shrugs*
The first thing I said when playing the game was BotW, but being a sonic fan, this is a breath of fresh air for sonic game.
"there's a drawing feature? I'm willing to bet that half of the player base is going to use that to draw a huge di- of course he did that"
THAT INTRO IS 10/10
Jokes on you it works "Faster" with some of the best soundtrack. Yep Sonic has never failed in making good music.
The price drop to $40 was a black Friday price, it's still $60 where I'm looking LOL
I did not expect to hear an instrumental version of the Un-Go opening song used to open up this video. Talk about a throwback.
Why the story was good: Chaos emerald lore. Comic book references. Fixing tails. Sage’s arc. Ian Flynn
Is the switch version bad enough to justify spending $60 on the pc one compared to $35 on switch
One of my favorite sonic games easily top 10
ahhh School Food Punishment bgm in the beginning is nice!
OMG XD I DIDN'T EXPECT THE BEGINNING OF THIS VIDEO!. Got me hyped!! And xD Laugh. Very Good Content!! Keep it upp!!.
They quality and creativity of these videos keep getting better and better. I love to just watch for the creator and not just the content. GG. Good stuff.

It's as clear as day that they designed the open world to feel somber hints the music and the color scheme! How could one miss this.
As a fan of sonic and sonic games, I would say that there have been some bad games and some very good ones too.
Sonic Rush on DS
Sonic Unleashed
Sonic Colors Ultimate
Sonic Generation
& Sonic Mania
people who say that there is no good sonic is just that they don't like sonic at all.
I got the game for PC and I also found it a bit messy at times and I also found it very confusing at times but apart from that its pretty fun
Just got the CD soundtrack for this game at 5:20p.m. 12/20/2022 and it's the Sonic Frontiers Stillness & Motion CD and I'm listening to it while watching this! 6:40p.m. 12/20/2022
bro that end 😂
A game goes open world and has green grass.
People who played BOTW: "It's literally just BOTW!"
Wait until he finds out the free dlc sonic frontiers is getting.
is this true? free sonic dlc?
@@WondurLand64s yep sonic team posted on twitter three separate dlcs throughout the span of 2023, the third one being three new playable characters and a new story, and they’re all free.

20 decades is 200 years? Wtf?
@@docc19 woops, I meant 2 lol
My favorite thing about this game is that it’s a collectathon created for people who hate collectathons. You can just skip all the collectible thresholds required to progress the story by grinding the fishing and cooking mini games for a few minutes.
You could probably tell already but just in case: the telegram message in this reply string is a scam. Ignore it.
👆Nice' comment 👌

Dm above to acknowledge!
I love the suggestive way Wulff says "so are you going to like... climb up over me, or what?" like "get over here bad boy and we'll have some fun"
my main problem with sonic frontiers is that it looks like sonic was modded into the world, because he doesn't fit in with the rest of the world AT ALL, I mean everything else is, high graphics, realistic, and HUGE, but then you have sonic who looks like a smooth plastic blue hedgehog in comparison, he just doesn't fit in that well, and it keeps putting me off, so much so, that I can't bring myself to play it

Honestly reminded me of Horizon with its giant robots.
13:44 to be fair...in this game sonic's contol really improved upon you see in the open-zone he control ls very well...but in cyberspace he controls differently
I personally think the game is really pretty on Switch! I love it! Then again, I'm not huge on graphics, so! lol.
Fr
afterall switch is portable one , if want to compare its better to compare with portable devices as well. its like comparing gaming pc with a gaming laptop and of course pc is better but for people who don't really have time , the portability is a vital point. i can play switch everywhere including in cars or while works or chilling at cafe but playstation can only played at home. and yeah we are the same, gameplay over graphic always.
While watching Blippi.
Blippi is my child hood 😂
you're reviews are the best! Fun and informative
Normally I just hate on people for hating sonic but i honestly can agree
This is so strange, Sonic finally got a push in the right direction and it's very wierd to see. It's basically Zelda plus Sonic but it's still a step in the right direction, and in all fairness this could lead to Sega allowing another game like this more budget and effort to make it something worth wild
Thing is, i dont understand the comparison to breath of the wild, to me its more mario odyssey with sonic and zelda elements, a couple big worlds to explore, memory tokens ((moons)) to collect, purple coins, platforming everywhere, 2D ((odyssey))
Climbing, combat, cyberspace, lore, more realistic environments, epic bosses, puzzles, koco ((botw))
@@youtuner9031 i think its more like odyssey, just my opinion, especially with the gameplay loop, being compared to zelda isnt a bad thing for sure, but i dont think the muted colours and gameplay add to that
@@Br1ckCulture it's both
@@jada8047 for sure, but i think it more leans to 1 side, but thats just me
This was a test run on a sonic adventure 3 in open world. And you change direction midair by dodging in the air
It's definitely not sonics plane. Any old sonic fan who played Sonic Adventure 1 knows tails built that plane in his workshop
Wood, this was an awesome video my dude. Great stuff!!!
I really enjoyed the shrines and trying to get S ranks for them all.
dude your videos are so funny and entertaining man lol giant bob was a hoot, good stuff man
I loved watching you play this on Twitch, especially when you changed the soundtrack so we were listening to the classic Sonic music!
Edit: and just got to the part where you mentioned that 😂
What I can take from this game is that the next sonic will be amazing if they keep going and developing from here
I disagree. Being compared to Zelda isn't accurate at all. I actually see this as Sonic Adventure with more potential realized.
HAHAHAHA that ending was the best! I kinda want the game just to do that now.

You always have the most entertaining videos, and this is also super informative. Thanks Wood!
This game has better performance than pokemon.
Finally you did it! I can't wait to see this!
Bro dosent know how an open world game works😊
It's really cool that beatemups gets sponsored almost only by stuff he likes and uses a lot.

SEGA: Can I copy your homework?
Nintendo: Yeah, just change it up a bit so it doesn’t look obvious you copied.
Nintendo npc
At this point you are being so biased in Zelda games
Thumbs up just for that ending!
The controls can be tweaked in the menu, so thats a non issue really.
As for the pop-in, yeah its kinda bad.
As for the botw comparison? I dont think so really. Botw had a lot of empty spaces, Sonic has something to do every 2 feet. Botw didnt invent anything, and while this game does get its inspiration from it, its not 'just botw with sonic'
The game isnt perfect, which is why its not a 10/10.
I got a headache, I'm blaming the intense graphics :P
The music reminds me of the game called Redout... You should give it a go if you ever play racing games, or if you haven't already.
It’s funny you played that anime op in the intro cause I just watched Un-Go for the first time last week

Well thank you! I thought I was bad at the game and I'm glad to know the controls are a mess for everyone :)
This is something i would definately consider buying on steam for under $20 someday when i have nothing else to play
7:26 phantom voice scared the creeps out of me.
After seeing your footage, I'm glad I bought mine on XBSX! TBH I loved the heck out of this game, instantly in my top 10 games!
It may be like Breath Of The Wild but at least Sonics friends aren't dead like Links people
This really just sounds like how a Botw fan views this game, fun review, but he definitely misses some things other people would notice like the significance of parts of the story or some of the more advanced tips for handling Sonics controls better, even stuff like being able to customize his turning speed, his boosting speed, etc.
This is the first review of Sonic Frontiers other then Dunkey’s.

I like the game but I totally agree about it needing a more sonic like atmosphere.
No its very different its so annoying people saying they're the same they play so flipping different
