Japan again this summer
👏🏻 stoked!!!
Wood I am surprised you went to Japan near fall and winter weather is not good go during summer better weather
@TokyoFool pretty sure it’s… sarcasm
I could have made this in 30 minutes
I really missed going into buildings and talking to people, as a person who compulsively talked to everyone and looked in every person I saw. I spent basically no time in towns because of the lazy and repetitive designs.
Yeah it was so fun having to scour every nook and cranny talking to every uninteresting npc for the chance at getting a potion. Bummer.
"Man people were so mad about out last games, they literally got trashed on the internet. Got an idea what the problem could be?" "Yeah well I am pretty sure people hated how unrealistic it is to enter random people's houses, steal their stuff and still get offered a coffee." "Great then lets remove all the housing!!!" "But chef, it's only about private-" *"ALL* of it!!!!!!!!"
I agree so much on this
Yeah one of the lamest things.
@@randomwhitedude9227 That sounds like sarcasm AND the truth lol
Actually, we don't deserve better, because we keep giving them money anyway.
true lol, we egging them on.
I dont
@@bramvanharen689 but millions of others do, Gamefreak don't care about you.
Well said...
Exactly true. They have no reason to improve the quality of their games if people keep throwing money at them for every release. This one, even with how horrendously buggy and ugly it looks, is breaking sales records. They will absolutely not change their ways so long as they are getting this kind of money.
This is the only time that we really need a third version...the completed one
exactly what I think...
It becomes a pattern that 3rd version is always the complete.
Really felt it at Pokemon Emerald era
Actually the third game si Pokémon Bug
too bad all the third versions are turning into dlc in the future games
Yeah but for free xD
It would be the same game but less bugs
The closing song, coupled with the statement filled of Pokémon puns about how game freak needs to be better was perfect
Gamefreak really needs a bigger team and more time to make their games
Well said about pokemon needing to trade developers to evolve, I couldn't have chosen better words to describe the state of pokemon
@@10tailedbijuu nintendo generally makes games with the expectation that they won't need voice acting, somehow GF didn't get the memo. a lot of the cutscenes in pokemon are deeply incomplete without voice acting.
Too bad genius sonority is a shell of its former self, they could have probably done a great job.
I think monolift soft could be a great asset to Pokemon but they seem to be more of a "we help Nintendo make all their games" rather than we actually make them all.
@@kirin1230 we've seen grezzo do a lot of Zelda, mercurysteam make great Metroid, and bandai make the nicest looking pokemon game ever. Also Niantic has poured some influence over let's go and PLA. There is no shortage of options if they'd be open about it, but gamefreak is too close to the foundation to be easily replaced (diplomatically). They'd have to step down on their own and give another developer their blessing, or at least get a skeleton crew to collaborate with said developer
@@comyuse9103 ? Your comment is self contradictory. Gamefreak _did_ follow Nintendo's "voice acting is too mainstream & generic" protocol.
Can you guys even imagine a Pokemon world developed by Monolith Soft? It would blow everyone's pants straight off their bodies.
9:59 For Arceus map design, Gamefreak got help from Monolith Soft, the guys that made the Xenoblade franchise. They also helped with Breath of the Wild (and the upcoming sequel). Why Gamefreak or NIntendo didn´t ask them to work on Scarlet and Violet is a mistery to me.
This is false, MonolithSoft should help, but they haven’t for either game
Monolith was busy with xc3
@@Condor-gb1xp Already confirmed by Aonuma in an interview years ago that Monolith helped for Skyward Sword and Breath of the Wild, also confirmed that the studio is helping with level designs for Tears of the Kingdom.
For Arceus, I recall that at least a small team helped Gamefreak as consultants for the map designs.
@@RoyFokker93 Of course they helped develop Skyward Sword and Breath of the Wild. I’m talking about Arceus
@@RoyFokker93 1 or 2 members of Monolith acting as consultants is completely different from “doing the map design”
Damn. Quite a bomb you dropped at the end, but I agree. In order for it to “evolve”, they cannot be behind the wheel in game development anymore. They’ve proven it time and time again. And yet…
VOICE IT LOUDER!!! I completely agree with "the empty town" opinion! After i finish the game i feel something is missing, what is the different between this and old gen.. Now i know, in the old gen, whenever i enter new town, i ALWAYS explore all the houses, talk with all NPC hoping to get extra item/TM.. Now, it just straight to the gym. Man, pokemon company have to learn to hold back, take their time, do not rush their game!!
I agree 100%. Towns in this game weren’t nothing. You do nothing but gym battles. Gen 1 you had something to do in almost every town.
Agree! The NPCs are so freaking empty and basically decoration at this point. I think that might be because all the interesting tips and game hints have been moved to the “academy” which lets face it-sucks except for the hot wifu and hasbando teachers. The biology teacher.. I think that’s the only class I take 😂 anyway-I don’t want to go to one place to hear how to “learn” to play the game! I like talking to people and hearing things here and there -whenever I feel like a light read. Also hate the school uniform… why can’t I wear a skirt???? GIVE ME MY SKIRT!!!!
You bought the game, at this point you get what you pay for. Don’t be surprised if future games end up being rushed because you definitely became a part of the problem.
Pokemon not rushing their games sounds good but financially the games are tied to the TCG and anime so they will never just hold back a generation because "the game isn't ready".
Considering the sale, they will never holding back
Wood, you've really knocked it out of the park with this one. Some of us know how much of a struggle this video and just present times have been, so I'm just blown away and so grateful that you've put this together for us. Thank you, happy holidays, and I hope January is great for you. ❤️
^^Yeah what they said this is one of your best
I agree. This, the humour, the editing, it seemed like he was having a lot of fun here. One of his best videos. My attention was latched on all the way through
I also really think the game would be better if it had side quests.. I really liked in Arceus that you can do quests for the town people and some of those quests would be to get a pokemon and that Pokémon would stay there
Exactly… the game has no character
Looking at sales numbers, I'd dare to say "we don't deserve better"
As long as people keep buying the games in the millions regardless, why would game freak even want to bother?
They too busy counting the coin they are making from GO to care. Online is bad too in SV.
We really don’t. All of us in this world keep rewarding all of these game devs over and over and over again. It kinda sucks to say that we sow what we reap
@@Odinarcade00 'Us'? I doubt with your wayward cynicism you actually bought Scarlet/Violet. You're likely one of those that just waits till it hits the bargain bin because you're so afraid to give Gamefreak money but still of course claim yourself to be ''the Best Pokemon fan ever'' because you ''want the best for the games - like voice acting'' (that would totally destroy the ambience and Quirk of Pokémon and clearly isn't in the spirit of the series.)
@@netweed09 I'm confused on how you would assume that? He just stated his opinion like the rest of the comments did. But you just targeted this person.
Dude this video format was so good. The editing and pacing was on point
Thank you for acknowledging the forced scheduled release date. Too many stakeholders making it come out “On time” this is a really solid review of the game. Coming from someone who has always enjoyed every main line Pokémon game and actively enjoying S&V. I have definitely poked holes in its performance.
P.S. Jordan Fringe cameo perfection
Fair points - though, I still believe this video's title was not made in really good taste considering the actual Good Scarlet/Violet did give Us - which is _Plenty_ (Open world exploration, etc.) And the series _needed_ this to finally push it into the Big time. The recent patches & updates have ironed out nearly _all_ the glitch issues - I barely got over 5 or so in my 120+ hours of playthrough. Sure; S/V can improve; Towns need to be fleshed out far better. But we have DLC for this.
@@netweed09 I completely disagree the games have been terrible. The worst pokemon games ever.
@@joeboyd1547 Well that's your opinion which I have to say taking facts from the sheer sales numbers - is a minority vote. You also don't explain anything, just say ''the games are rubbish'' which is meh. I find quite a few of the 2D games rubbish as I'm not fooled by a bit of nostalgia; Pokémon is meant to be an immersive World. The top-down nonsense was only because of system limitations of the older Game Boys.
@@netweed09 Sales numbers don't define the value of a game. Thats exactly why the keep giving us trash. The games success is down to the Nintendo Switch not Pokémon itself.
@@jlkv48 What? That makes no sense. You basically said those Switch's grew some arms and legs and ordered Scarlet & Violet. You don't have to love a game to acknowledge it's Success you know but simply hating on it or giving an inaccurate opinion like "it's a total bugged out festering filthy mess" is just being cheap. In the end; comments, Metacritic whatever - these are all opinions. The sales are the material Fact. Not much else to say; if you deny it, it's your indifference.
Glad you took your time with the review to properly address every detail. Most people don't seem to realise performance and visuals are not the only problems the game has, I actually think that's the least important part when you take into account the big picture.
Also, I loved how you kept the "é" with an accent from "Pokémon" in your subject titles, just a little detail I found funny xD
I'm gonna spend hours replaying the ending song just so I can laugh at all the names lol. Brilliant.
The saddest part is, under all the crap and lack of design, there is an incredibly good game experience. There is so much POTENTIAL and it hurts.
Yes! This!
Its got such a good basis and they layers unfinished and unfun mini things on top
name a single feature of the game experience that is an improvement over the mobile versions.
Ill wait.
@@Wardinson what "mobile versions"?
you mean that "Pokemon" is a good game experience, a 20 year old game formula that is the base of the world best selling I.P , saying a mainline pokemon game has pontential is the most obvious statement in the world. this game just sucks, no saving grace allowed!!
@@andrewjackson5937not necessarily, an open world version of Pokémon where all areas are open to you both early game and late game areas pushing you to take the routes from easiest to hardest in order for you to grow while not forcing you upon a certain path is very cool, not to mention the increased difficulty of the game in comparison to the other games
It’s hard to admit but this is the mentality we all need to adopt. Just because the game works and had some good moments doesn’t mean GameFreak gets a pass, they need to do better!
I'm actually surprised you made it through the entire video without mentioning Flamigo 😂
Wdym? It's definitely an original Pokémon...
THEY LITERALLY JUST DROPPED THE N.....I cant with gamefreaks
@@early2exit Nooooo they didn't
Funnily enough, i don't remember what video it was exactly but Lockstin made a joke about making a Flamingo Pokemon that was a fire type and giving it a generic name. And even that was more creative than Flamigo xD
Game has a latin flair, Flamigo.. Amigo... Y'all are trying too hard with the hate.
Only pokemon fans would blame the switch for a problem that is GameFreak’s fault not Nintendo’s
Exactly when we literally had the best Pokémon games on an even older DS/3DS system and how they pushed it to its limits
This was totally worth the wait! I know how hard you worked on this video and it really shows! Keep it up man!
I've had the same theory about what is going on for awhile now. Gamefreak is forced to rush out a new gen every couple of years or the whole tower will come crashing down. And I agree, they really need help in the programming department. But God I'd be living if I said scarlet and violet aren't the most fun I've had with pokemon in a long time, and that's including arcueus. Don't get me wrong arceus was for for a bit but I got sick of the mindless catching gimmick after about a week. I keep coming back to violet and just like running around. Now admittedly I haven't experienced the worst of the glitches, minor framerate drops, camera going into the ground in battle and my game has crashed 2 times but both with full party of 4 in multiplayer.
It’s only fun because it’s Pokémon and it keeps the same core formula Pokémon is known for, without it the game would just being extremely boring. Realistically speaking this is a bad game only carried by the formula that made Pokémon a success in the first place.
I'm sure the game would be better if GameFreak actually updates the game to remove some of the bugs and glitches, But for a pokemon game to release so broken is disappointing.
I am a lifetime fan of pokemon, and i can confidently say that if this didnt have the Pokemon name on it, people would be preparing for a class action lawsuit
I feel like it should be the opposite, that BECAUSE it had the Pokemon brand it should get a class action lawsuit.
The editing in this video is top tier. Most definitely worth the wait!
the chapter cuts were a little rough - not like the game didn't deserve it
Nah, the Fuecoco line is perfect. Crocolar's wearing a sombrero, very spanish inspired, but look closer. It's found an egg, and is keeping it warm. Then Skeledirge, it's literally dead, but is still protecting the now hatched fire bird, it's actually really deep, and falls into the Spanish cultural relationship with death.
I wonder how many people know that… certainly not I who just learned reading this and the millions of other people who don’t even care to read it, like the evolutions for the starters should be obvious and not require research into another culture I’ve never even experienced

This is the best-edited video you've made since your Cyberpunk review. Seriously, good job! I'm absolutely floored by your editing skills!
Cyberpunk was made by inexperienced. CDPR will even go bankrupt soon because almost everyone refunded Cyberpunk. Gamefreak will make billions...

Another thing to add to the two you mentioned in the 'what went wrong' section was that the majority of fans will buy these games no matter what. Gamefreak has them right where they want them.
What you said in the Nontendo podcast is so true. The Pokémon Company needs to just hire actual game developers to make the game. They can handle the art development, but the game should be made by actual professionals, not old farts stumbling around new technology they can’t understand

Too bad it's mostly unreal, because part of the rights owns GF. So you can't put it into hands of another team.
Also GF it was Masuda stated they won't hire more people, because it would ruin "perfect team" he has now and they will not let another studio handle it, because they would stray from his Pokemon vision.
As long as they manage to deliver games, others can't do much about GF.
@@noxmadness7342 how they will "stray" from pokemon vision? There are plenty of people that know about the vision about pokemon, and the saying is a "perfect team" is just an excuse to not put any effort and give bunch of excuses to not improve at all

Imagine finding a shiny Pokemon after hours, only for it to spawn inside of a wall and you can't catch it!
One thing I never understand is the lack of voice acting in the game. They already have the majority of voice actors from the anime. The game size is around 6GB while Xenoblade 3 with full voice is around 13GB. They can certainly have that on the cartridge.
That rap though... absolutely loved it
That rap was so good. 😂
It's so sad to see one of my favourite franchises struggle so bad to put out a game in working condition.
GameFreak badly needs help, they just aren't grasping 3D very well.
And Pokémon just don't give them enough time on top of that.
A few years is more fine for a Gameboy or DS game, but a Switch game, especially one as ambitious as Scarlet and Violet needs at least a few years longer.
And yea, if they want to be heavy on dialogue and have musical characters.
The games really need voice acting.
It's awkward when it's just silence.
Piers in SwSh and now the likes of Ryme in SV.
Plus just talking in general would be improved.
I love that the first mod ever released for Pokemon SV was "Remove Ed Sheeren"
I hate crafting TMs. I miss finding them once and just having them forever. Farming for materials is not fun at all. Especially when one of the needed materials is from a Pokémon you haven’t encountered yet so you have no idea who you need to farm. I also hate the change to breeding. Maybe it’s better than the daycare if you’re breeding for shinies but if you’re breeding for perfect IV competitive Pokémon the process has been slowed WAY down and there’s a bunch of extra steps. I don’t want to make a sandwich every single time I switch in a slightly improved Pokémon on my way to my perfect one. These are my two biggest gripes with the game. I can deal with the janky graphics and performance but the changes they made to TMs and breeding are really annoying.
Tbf, "Go mode" is moreso for materials/items/tms. You can farm materials to create TMs much faster with go mode than standard battling.
*not for leveling/xp at all.
Gamefreak: Customers, we deserved LESS $$$. But owell, can't complain.
Great editing, funny and clever writing, thoughtful take-this was both a delight to watch and also a really well planned and comprehensive review. The huge amount of time you put in really shows! Honestly it feels like more effort went into this video than into the games themselves :( Keep up the awesome work, we appreciate you!!
What about the _actual_ Game? There's like 6+ more Towns and 2 Cities more than Legends Arceus. Everyone screamed for an Open-world and We actually got it?? (not in Legends Arceus that ridiculously kept forcing you back into Jubilife)

If you can’t see how bad this game is then idk what to tell you. There was a Ho-Oh tower in HGSS, there bell tower in gold and silver where you can fight trainers which is bassically content, heck ecruteak tower was a thing. Really fair and honest review. The only thing I really disagreed with personally would be button mashing through the story. I really enjoyed it and one of the best ones they've done in generations imo
How is the best? Is just the exact same story but cut in 3 segments, and did you even watch the video? He literally stated taht at the end of the story got good and he did say that there where some things taht where interesting
The story was only good towards the end, there barely any good important defining moments throughout the vast majority of the time you use going through the story. It’s not as good as BW, no where near that but people still decide to make that comparison.
i really dont understand why there's so many ppl okay with buggy, glitchiness, frame rate drops ect. (when those sort of problems were never issues to begin with in the first place in hardly any other pokemon game)... just because it only happened a little bit for them, I'm sorry but not sorry at all but I expect to be impressed and ESPECIALLY from pokemon one of the biggest iconic games ever. Like everyone knows pokemon. If I saw even 2 glitchie things or being able to camera angle and see through walls/floor I'd return the game right away because that's a broken unfinished game to me and not worth the money. Pokemon Arceus impressed me a lot more. Although not a fan of the gym leaders being gone in that game it was not buggy hardly ever. I'd rather have open zone than open world improved graphics quality and including many more pokemon as the "improvement" of pokemon arceus. I'm very very happy I didn't buy scarlet/violet. Had a feeling it was rushed and seems i was right. Trying to find other switch games to try and am still trying to get really into playing the switch even if its not pokemon but having a hard time finding an addictive somewhat relaxing non-grindy game or even multiple games. In the meantime I'll definitely view his other vids about which games are fun on switch to try making a decision on my next game thanks so much for ur content its always great and oftentimes funny! :)

It was time for the Pokémon company to move on to another game creation company and make the real Pokémon game that we have long deserved.
Peace Wood ✌
I recognize that this comment is a month old, but you recognize The Pokemon Company is the issue right? The Pokemon Company is setting up unreasonable, completely non-negotiable deadlines because a new game being delayed affects every other aspect of the multi-media marketing juggernaut that is the Pokemon franchise.
@@HunterStiles651 Game Freak owns an equal third of The Pokemon Company, along with Creatures Inc. and Nintendo. GF can't be ordered to do anything by a company they founded and own a majority share in, and from the things they've said in past interviews and reviews from former employees it seems like it's their own management who are the ones forcing the strict release schedule. Even if they didn't control the release schedule, they could still hire more developers or ask for help from another studio. But they don't, because they don't care about polish, only profit.
Howdy, Wood! A great video as usual but it'd be really nice to add a prominent warning for photosensitive epileptics as there are several points that are difficult even for me, a non-epileptic, to watch. I have several friends with photosensitive epilepsy and they would be dangerous for them to watch this. You mentioned the famed seizure-inducing episode, even, but didn't provide any protection for folks who would be affected. Thanks!
To be honest, I didn't encounter that many issues. Yeah, the camera clipping into the ground was present at all times, and let's not even talk about raids (the boss attacking 3 times in a row, laggy, buggy, the terastalization animation deciding to cut entities out of the frame and sudden death for the pokemon), but besides those, it was actually really nice
I definitely didn't know how to articulate the towns, but you did it best. They're void of all life and it's so sad, the towns have so much potential. At least the gym leader's design was nice (not La Primera. She looks horrible imo)
Horrible game with horrendous level design, game design, route design, lack of content in the overworld, poorly made towns with the lack of interiors inside the houses, lack of post game content, no battle tower, it’s an empty game with a very empty overworld land mass and that’s all. Performance issues don’t help this game either and neither does the fact that the game look hideously unpolished.
How they can’t get voice actors for Pokémon as the biggest franchise in the world is a joke
Cause they don’t need to hahahah, quantity not quality, people will eat it up regardless
Nice finish. You definitely hit MY nostalgia button with that rap.
Not as catchy as “CD Project are all liars”, but still
"We deserve better"
If that was even remotely true than these games wouldn't have sold 10 million units in a weekend.
Pokémon is going to sell no matter what, too many braindead fans who don’t listen to controversy will continue buying it, and there is people who knowingly realize that the games are bad but continue to buy it. Realistically pokemon is too big to fail. And I think fans deserve better, if fans today are able to experience an actual good quality Pokémon game that out does the 2D pixelated games then standards would have been a lot higher for fans, but because we have been consuming incomplete garbage Pokémon games since x and y people just got accustomed to literal garbage that it just tastes good to them after years of getting used to consuming garbage. It’s the equivalent of eating horribly made food and you become accustomed to eating it that you no longer see a problem in it even though they used to make good meals in the past.
@@GodSlayer330 So true man, it's so sad. :(
@@Djuncle the only real way Pokémon is ever going to change is if the controversy continues to grow each time and more and more people are aware of the controversy till the Pokémon brand would be widely known for being extremely controversial which could then trigger a change in the company as there reputation would be strained and they would be known widely as one of the controversial brands in history, that’s legitimately the only real way things are going to change, until controversy continues to get worse and worse and worse till the vast majority of people start realizing Pokémon for what it truly is, a controversial brand, that way brand recognition would usually result in people knowing Pokémon for its business practices and it’s lack for effort in there games, there reputation would have be hit tremendously hard till they are known to be a controversial brand by the masses. With that being said, I can guarantee you that if the sword and shield and bdsp boycott actually worked then we wouldn’t be in this situation, Infact I believe if the sword and shield and bdsp boycott worked and there sales tanked tremdously then scarlet and Violet would have probably been pushed back by atleast a year if fans truly knew how to vote with there wallets and not buy anything with Pokémon in it.
@@GodSlayer330 Game's fun. I've yet to see a single whacky bug like what people were freaking out about at launch. Performance issues are bc game freak decided to render everything on the map at once; it's only really 3-4 spots that struggle
The games are unironically enjoyable and easily rank higher up imo. I've had nothing but fun with them, which I can't say for games in general for a while now.
Controversy =/= bad games. The internet likes to play target practice and pokemon is an easy target. If you don't believe me that they're fun, pirate it and emulate
@@CCRexKanin just because you didn’t experience anything doesn’t mean that these issues aren’t present, and I find it extremely hard to believe that you didn’t experience anything. Oh and the “AtleASt I HAd FuN” mentality is the reason the games continue to get worse, scarlet and Violet had a very empty overworld.
Pokemon's main strategy for changing the formula is "remove feature and hope nobody notices". Legit I remember when pokemon games felt like games. Now, they just feel empty and devoid of any real emotion except sadness and dissapointment. I feel like Scarlet/Violet is a huge example as to why the classic formula worked so well. Open world was not a good approach for pokemon.
I think it's a great idea but we need pokemon online style so you have different stuff then the same old thing
Like an mmo made by gamefreak not the same old tired stuff like union rooms and having to connect it should be automatic your playing Pokemon online or like dead island where you choose in the main menu before playing
It still would work if they didn't copy how other games failed. By stripping all features and bum rushing the game out for the holidays, you're bound to experience failure.
Stop with the cope man, open world RPG is genuinely perfect for Pokémon, they just don’t want to put in the work and effort to grow it into a beautiful thing.
I mean look at Pokémon Legends Arceus, not the perfect game and is certainly flawed (with things such as having a slow start and too much babying with the amount of tips) but still a solid 7/10 game.
your videos are absolutely amazing! you are such a big role model for me in regards to editing, story telling and more. absolutely fantastic! props!
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 coming out a few months ago really emphasizes how BS the "hardware limitations" excuse people try to use for Pokemon is
It bothers me so much that Pokemon fans are riding Game Freak and shilling "because its Pokemon". There is a difference between enjoying the game (Which i am) and acknowledging that the game is trash. I'm almost through the game and I have to admit, this is the worst Pokemon game I have ever played. I will not be preordering it next time. I enjoyed the game, but it is the worst Switch game I have ever played. The Pokemon games for the GAMECUBE look better than this.
The rap at the end had me in stitches! This video was worth the wait Great work Wood. Your video was better then the game itself
everyone's trying to give it a pass for being innovative for the pokemon franchise... but tbh it crashed so often during my playthrough and bugged out so much I hated the experience but they forced our hands when they made this the new competitive mon game. Shouldnt have charged us full price for it. First time ever that I've been disappointed in pokemon
Don’t buy anymore Pokémon games until the reviews are out.
I honestly think I’m done with Pokémon games until they decide to radically make a big difference like actual voice acting and fix all the stupid game issues like crashing.
For the most part, I haven’t had a bad time with glitches the only glitches I’ve had was when evolving sometimes I would be able to see underneath the map, but that’s it
I think the game is still worse than the glitches. Meaning even if there were none, it wouldnt be great. It was fun but nothing special, legends arceus was more fun but so shallow. I think they just wont make a good story anymore.
@@karigrandii Disagree with that. It's shortcomings are 100% to do with performance and those criticisms are perfectly valid.
The way i've seen people talk about these games (and Arceus) however from a pure gameplay perspective are far warmer and this is the creative direction it needed to head in. But it seems Game Freak severely lack the technical know how to bring this franchise into an open world setting.
@@battlep0t What gameplay? We have sandwich tycoon and... yeah, and what? Besides the pokemon fights that is. No interesting collectibles, no meaningful interactions, no post-game, no difficulty, no puzzles, no nothing that adds to the game(play).
I know that most pokemon games don't have anything besides the fights and shiny hunting but since it's now open-world you'd figure they'd add something new to make it more alive. As much as I hate genshin, I'd rather play that than SV, and without having to pay $60 dollars either.
@@MusicComet k then go play that and leave the franchise.
Yeah, I only experienced a glitch where in every room a pole ball would be in the middle of it, but that was it.
I think that story wise though they really upped it, I think it’s better than Gen 6 and 8, and the writing wasn’t nearly as bad as some Pokémon games
glad you called them out on their bs, too much people are acting like this is okay. everyone "oh but its fun" lol there are companies worth a lot less then pokemon putting out amazing games, no glitches. really should be no excuse here. and the rap at the end was 👌🏽! these song reviews now have to be an xmas tradition!
I genuinely laughed so hard at that 17s better healthbar😂
That’s always been a big reason I thought Game Freak didn’t make really excellent Pokémon games, the huge time crunch they were under. And that closing song was awesome, great job on it and the whole video.
Some of that I feel like could be solved by just hiring more people though, which they have more than enough money to do. Like the issue with keeping all the Pokémon I’ve heard is how many animations that needs, but you can literally just hire more animators to work on different Pokémon. If you have trouble with route design, compartmentalize it more and have more teams working on different routes. Give each area its own QA team.
Obviously this wouldn’t solve ALL the issues, you need overall game directors overseeing things and they will eventually be bottlenecks, but I feel like a LOT of these issues could be solved by basically just throwing some of the massive amounts of money the Pokémon company have at the games
@@avataraarow Oh absolutely, I'm not saying the time crunch is a total pass for the troubles Game Freak has with making the games. I just think that's the main cause of trouble.
Excellent editing and solid criticisms. However, I feel like it's worth mentioning that many fans, myself included have had a really positive experience with the story. While not perfect, when comparing to many past generations, the story offered in Scarlet/Violet is much more mature and nuanced. Of course this is subjective, but just since you pointed out not to give it much attention until the end, I think it's worth pointing out I think the story is actually one of this game's strengths. Thanks for doing such great work!
I think a lot of it is nostalgia bc as someone who has never played pokemon is baffled by how anyone could enjoy this game
this. these games look worse than a mobile farm game and I know for a fact no one would look twice at it if it wasn't Pokémon.
Mid way through the game I stumbled upon a white tatsuguri without realizing it was a shiny, and completely disregarded it because I thought it was a normal color varient. Took a pink murcrow to realize there's no overworld shiny indicators.
The rap at the end was a nice finish to this long video. Worth it.
YOU'RE worth it....
I wonder if the quality assurance team or whatever they call it or if it even exists, is always bribed to not even try the game and just give a thumbs up to everything or they give an extensive review of faults and management just gives them a pat on the back and ignore them completely.
I feel nuts. I've never seen many of these issues. I've also almost never done any multiplayer.
I wonder if the multiplayer makes things worse each time you have someone join and leave.
I haven’t run into some of these issues, but the frame rate is pretty bad. So many other open world games on Switch look beautiful, but Gamefreak acts like they are working on PS2 dev kits or something. Fans deserve better.
As a 90s kid who hasn’t played a Pokémon game since Silver I’m glad Your here to save me from ruining my childhood by playing this game 😅
Go ahead try it. It has heart trust me
@@ssj4galactus lol no don't listen to this guy. Save yourself the disappointment. The safest Pokemon game to play after Silver is up to Gen IV, and that includes Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
@@strahnbrad3979 have you played it?
@@strahnbrad3979 looks like you havent played since gen 4 and got nostalgia googles on 😂
its actually not that bad as some people make it out to be, the fps drop is annoying sure (its actually not that common if you don't play for more than 3 hours straight // especially if you have a life) but its a fresh take especially for pokemon regulars, the soundtrack is pretty good(especially team star battles/team star last boss/final battle) and the story near the end is good. I think its a downgrade from the battle animations from sword and shield IMO with the signature moves but terastalization is a refreshing new mechanic rather than dynamax
I really like open world games but all of this... tbh it reminds me of playing roblox on my VERY old pc. Seeing through walls and mountains, glitchy maps, falling off the map, and flickering people.
Oddly enough the only real bugs that I experienced was the occasional being able to see through the terrain and the occasional FPS drop aside from that I didn't really experience any other bugs. I think I just got lucky in that regard
Well, you not the first one. I play though most part of the game without any problem, minus the thing you mention(terrain see though and FPS)
i actually has no bugs so lucky me ig
Also most of the people that had bugs are people that bought the in person copy of the game so
The end with the throwback to the Pokémon rap hit me with so much nostalgia
BOTW is a WII U port.
THE WII U was capable of holding to BOTW.
The switch, was needed only because the WII U had horrible marketing.
Hands down the best, most accurate and honest review of S/V I’ve seen. Thank you for speaking up on it, this is a damn good video/review.

The towns are so depressing, there's literally nothing there, just a gym
That's fair. I've defended the games but I admit the Towns (while I feel they're still essential points of travel & look charming & pretty whatever people say) are barebones and rushed out, still suffering from that 'Sword & Shield syndrome'. Especially the (lack of!) interiors & NPCs with questlines & more lore. But DLC can always be added in. I would still take this state over Legends Arcus - forcing you back to Jubilife was the most mind-numbing, counter-intuitive thing ever!
i feel so sad at the lost potential this series has. sure, its fun. we can enjoy it for what it does do right. but these should be the coolest games ever. they just dont want to take the time and money it'll cost to make them so.
"Cornering the market" got me real good 😂
24:34 This game runs worse on a Steam Deck than it runs on Switch
I'm not saying bugs and poor performance isnt bad (I personally didnt get any of the crashes but the frame rates are awful and glitching people / graphics is really embarrassing for a full priced game), there is no excuse for that, esspecially from a game developer as big as game freak.
BUT, this is game is fun. My kids love it and I enjoyed it. It has some nice mechanics and brings a breath of fresh air into the franchise.
whoever designed pokemon snap should do a game. Man it looked so good from the clips I've seen.
Bandai namco
"Assuming that you are nearsighted" made me giggle. I hate that the pokemon span so late more than the other glitches
Yessss a pokerap at the ending! Wood did it again, love those videos. Keep up the good work~
I will stand by this, game freak needs to stop making a new game every year. I believe it’s the main reason pokemon games never look that great anymore. It would make game freak less money probably but they have enough to have a little drop in overall revenue. I think if BDSP or legends Arceus never came out SV would’ve looked and performed way better, Gamefreak will probably never stop releasing games every year, but I really think we would get better games overall if they did stop. I will still give them money either way though sooooooo…
Scarlet and violet had amazing potential but they spent as much time making that I do studying for my math test. If they just spent more time on it it could’ve been AMAZING. I do like to union circle though
Hot take: no, you all deserve this, because you bought the game without thinking that the game may not be up to the standards we can all expect as clients.
And this way Game Freak, TPCI, Nintendo or whoever you wanna blame gets this message...
"People buy the game en masse, so we're doing the right thing!"
Rinse and repeat. Talk with your wallets and think twice before buying, bozos.
Omg the nostalgia from the original pokemon anime clips/sounds was a major throw back, happy times and also made me a lil sad after hearing that ash and pikachu will no longer be part of the anime anymore but the this review was really great, i lol'd so many times and the rap at the end was amazing🤣🤣👍👍
This was the first game I’ve played that crashed my switch system. I only wanted to close the game but ended up having to restart the system

Great video man. Thank you for putting in all the effort and time it took to make this. It was very entertaining. 👍
I can't believe that holding zl/zr does no clip. Also pokemon game is like Lapras who didn't get an evolution for so long.
