FYI: 1 ounce of oil equals 1.01 ( ~ 1) US fluid ounces
This was measured in fluid ounces and I did 1.1 which is equivalent to 1.05
So I'm good
So in other words, the miniscule difference between 1 fluid Oz and 1 Oz weight of Oil is not going to change the test results.
You're fine Rich. I just commented that for all the questioners.
@@N-M424😂
I just bought a bottle of prolube after watching their videos. Wish I would have seen this first.
Interesting results!!! Love the new testing equipment!! Thanks for doing these!!!
Thanks Rich, appreciate the independent testing, now wonder what Pro Lube is going to say, you know they will see this.
These tests are valuable to the consumer. I know this oil additive testing series will save me money moving forward. I just ordered some Motorkote yesterday based on your test results and the results of others. I plan to use it in all my lawn/garden equipment and both my vehicles.
i just ordered motorkote like 10 minutes ago the results don’t lie i’ve been using Marvel mystery oil synthetic as per rich seems to have quieted my 2.7l ecoboost down some can’t wait to see the results will probably try it in my rear diff maybe my tranny not sure about that yet
Updates?
MotorKote always advertise they are the best additive I have seen some of these tests that show it does well I wouldn't use any of that stuff I just use schaffer and change at regular intervals
I trust you based on history, but camera edits and cuts will give skeptics a reason to not believe it. 😊
The Schaeffer reps do this test to show how their oils "plate up" with their Micron Moly and antimony additives, and then completely prevents the machine locking up, but they will not use that oil you are using...instead they empty that modern passenger car oil bottle out and then refill it from one of their older spec diesel oils with more ZDDP, moly and antimony additives and sometimes heavier viscosity, and then you literally cannot lock it up. I caught a Schaeffer rep doing this and told him in front of everyone I wanted to use a sealed bottle of the modern, current Schaeffer passenger car oil, and he made a bunch of excuses and refused to test again from a sealed bottle. It's the ole one-arm bandit trick!
Just saved me $50, thanks
30 years ago the BG reps put on a demonstration at our dealer with a similar machine. Their machine utilized a beam pointer torque wrench rather than weights. They started with a sample of our bulk oil. The bearings seized at a low torque. They then tested their MOA additive. They were able to bury the needle with the MOA. As I mentioned this was 30 years ago so my memory may be off. I don't remember them conducting a third test where they added a percentage of MOA to our bulk oil. We became am authorized seller of BG products. We sold MOA, 44K and Supercharge. I'm now curious to see what the result of adding MOA to a motor oil will be. If it in fact fortifies motors oils like they claim. The MOA, by itself, showed the same result as the Prolube. Perhaps these additives are just "snake oils" that do not provide any added benefit.
Weight Ounce vs Fluid Ounce
Really,he didn't know this? DUH!!!
Most oil additives are not needed. You use the correct viscosity and a decent brand change your oil and do not run 10k 15 k 20k between oil changes you won't have a oil related issue.
For accuracy you should have the weights already on when you start the test because there could be variation in the time it takes you to put each weight on. If one has more weight on it for longer it will obviously have more wear. Also you are weighing in ounces. Fluid ounces are different than ounces in weight. Fluid ounces measure liquid in volume where ounces measures dry objects in weight.
We also don't know how heavy the weights are, how much force is being applied over the arm to the bearing. Bearing area/stress, etc. This is basically all that the prolube guy does and I've been raving for months about it everwhere wishing someone would do a real test with quantitative results like project farm because I want prolube proven wrong so bad lol. All we know from this is at what load the motor is at, which does tell you something but we don't have a run time, bearing material loss, etc.
@@Terminxman I mean you don’t necessarily have to know what the plates weigh as long as it’s the same plates and same number of plates for the same amount of time between each product
This shit blew up a side-by-side and a ATV I have and then I put it in a trusty Honda Atv that I had since 1993 and it locked that motor up. Do not use prude people.
Try prolong. They did same test over 2 decades ago and they can lock it up putting their on strength on it.
Prolong was developed for Transmissions.
Do not use in Engines....
I wonder what a 50% mixture would do? Then again the oil would be out of spec for the application which may cause other issues.
Looks like prolube can only work with 100% concentration and is sold based on this fact but in reality it’s not effective at least based on this test.
Great job in testing this product! Would be great if you could do a series on maybe the top 3 brands of oil additives out there.
I believe you have Prolube in one of your vehicles currently if I am not mistaken?. If so can you do a similar test to what Prolube did by taking oil straight off the dipstick from their finger to the bearing. Reason being is I am curious about heat cycles possibly having an effect but I also want to see if the results are the same or not.
A new toy and before Christmas 🎅
@FordBossMe when you end up wearing that roller bearing out from all the testing. You should be able to use roller bearings from old diff/axle bearings if you have any laying around. Not sure if they will be as big as the one on there, but you might be able to rig something up to make them work. can save some money depending on how much they want for new replacement ones.
MMO synthetic. Been using it for the last 2 oil changes in my 2020 Ram 6.4
Weight Ounce vs Fluid Ounce
Is 1 oz liquid the same as 1 oz weight?
This is where it gets confusing. Fluid ounces (fl oz) measures the volume of a liquid, or how much room this liquid takes up. Net weight (Net Wt) measures the mass of a solid, or how much the product weighs. Since fluid ounces and net weight measure different things,
1 US fluid ounce of oil equals 0.988
1 ounce of oil equals 1.01 ( ~ 1) US fluid ounces
So basically what I ended up putting in here is 1.05 which is just a tad bit over what's recommended when you actually do the conversion so I'm good
@FordBossMe, love the videos and the information you provide. Any chance you can settle the NAPA full syntheitc & Valvoline Full Synthertic as far as how different/similar the formula is in the future. Thank you
There's a reason Prolube won't do this test on their channel. They did a mix recently but at 3oz per quart a d not at the ratio they actually recommend
That was on the Millionaire Morning Show on RUclips.
Interesting, and Schaeffers is a Decent Oil too. "CERMA OIL", The (only) Self Cleaning OIL on the Market. Wonder How that would work.
great testing. thanks again!
Try motorkote and fr3 then mixed with triax 5w30 thanks for the demonstration
What is the psi on a main bearing? Obviously there is variation. But there must be a zone that bearing material can handle
The best thing to do is not add anything to the oil and use it the way it came from the manufacture. In my 55 years of working on cars and oil changes, I waisted money on oil additives and learned not to add any now. The oils are too good as they come in the bottle. I started using Amsoil in 1976 and have only use synthetic since them. I have Amsoil or Schaeffer in my Harley, Pennzoil ultra platinum in my GMC 1500 and Mobil one 0w8 in my 2025 Toyota hybrid.
im thinking you mixed it wrong it is fliud ounces . not weight ..you have to use a measuring cup to get the correct amount of additive i believe !
1 ounce of oil equals 1.01 ( ~ 1) US fluid ounces
It has such a wide range in the directions that small variance won't make any difference. A bottle treats 4-7 quarts, that's a big variable!
Do a comperesion of Mahle OC705 and motorcraft 820s. And Mann-Filter W92045. These are for ford 5.4 - 4.6 engines. These are supposedly top tier filters German engineered. So if you can do a video cut them open and compare them
Send them to me lol poissorichard.rp@gmail.com
@@FordBossMe i will order today
Not sure why someone would not just buy a high quality fully formulated oil instead of adding some unknown chemical that could make one type of wear parameter better, but cause other issues with that now, mixed product that is not tested other than seat of pants or sounds. I would want to see a full oil analysis
I been using NMF Ionic Friction Reducer; for 3 years in my semi; synthetic oil was cleaner
Could you revisit and play with increased ratios? I'm curious if 2 or even 3 oz/quart will show better results. Just curious since it did so well full strength. Maybe Prolube isn't recommending the ideal ratio?
There's a problem with doing it that way because now you're taking your oil changes from 50 60 bucks and you're making them $100 plus because you're dumping three to four times the amount of prolube in to make anything different but going by their directions it doesn't make a difference
I would be curious of 2oz. It does say on the prolube website under directions. For best results use 2oz. Per quart.
Any chance you have an oil analysis on prolube? I'm curious what's in it.
Motorkote up next?
Need to mix i fluid ounce not a weight ounce to 1 quart ....... But probably wont make a difference!!
It will be interesting what 5w - 40 does though!! Bearing burners are not optimum tests for oils in general. There is temperature and pressure to account for. But i do appreciate your dedication!! What do those bearing rigs cost these days??
Hey, I'm glad you got this machine. Could you test Kendal GT 1 MAX 0w20 oil.
If a car takes 7 qts of oil and its non turbo will the oil mileage last any longer than 5k ? Does more quantity equal any more time between changes?
no, quantity doesn't equal more time between changes. if a car take 5qts or 7qts the change time is the same. Adding more oil to the engine then recommended or past the full line on the dip stick could cause issues.
Prolube also states 3 oz for heavy duty use ….
Hello Rich, Appreciate all your videos, always great information. My 2011 F150 5.0 Super cab 2wd with 236K. Every 3,000 miles service with 6 qts Pennzoil Platinum High Mileage 5W/30 and 2 qts Lucas High Mileage Oil Stabilizer using Motorcraft FL500S filter. Oil is always clean with constant pressure. Thinking about changing to Valvoline Full Synthetic Extended Protection High Mileage MAX Life 5W/30. I run a JTL Oil Separator kit and average 3 ounces oil blow-by monthly. Appreciate any thoughts and recommendations. Thx John
No just keep doing what you're doing
Doing pretty good considering mileage on vehicle..... you have twice the mileage of my vehicles and mine are 6 years older!! 😊
Keep up those great oil changes!!
I have used Valvoline products for 50 years. Never had a problem but your Pennzoil choice is excellent too!!
The newer fords don’t really have oil pressure gauges. They show the same reading for anything above 7psi
Dumb question, did you thoroughly mix the Prolube with the Schaeffers oil I saw you poured it in, but I didn’t see you get mixed up🤷🏻♂️. Either way I’ve been using Prolube for years. I add 2 ounces per quart you have to be careful obviously because it’s a different viscosity. And I don’t run it in the winter months in Minnesota just the summer. #coldpourtest #amsoil
Definitely were dealing with childhood trauma slick, 50 did it to us lied to us we don’t want it to happen again
On the website it says for high mileage engines add 3 ounces per quart.
Think that would do anything ?
No
Now do Mobil 1 and penzoil ultra platinum and valvoline side by side.
You will Ruin Ultra platinum oil adding anything to it.
So with being this what it is, do you recommend using pro lube instead of oil?
Marvel synthetic mistry oil that would be a good choice
Hi. Great channel. What’s your thought on using Ceratec?
Can you please test bestline
Well i think the man said put as little or as much as you want 😂 dont be shy I'd say
Oil additives are not needed and can damage your engine.
Is ProLube the new STP? The Fakers, I mean Racers Edge. If anything, they should reccomend a higher concentration of lube in the oil. They would sell more and it would work better. I think too much lube might be too viscous for a modern engine. Look at all the 0Ws out there. Good job, Rich. I'll never use it. Thanks.
I run Delo xsp 5w-40 with stanadyne diesel additive. What would your dream set up be?
The valvoline oil on your first test performed better than the Schaffers oil didn’t it?
Where can I buy a lubrisity machine like yours?
Have you done this same test with other brands of motor oil, ams, valvoine ect?
Yes
@@FordBossMe for the sake of not digging through all your videos. Did you end up with the same results?
Did you really just use oz by weight to judge ounces by volume? Those are two different measurements, friend.
Is redline still outperforming these other oils?
Try X1R and RVS
So will customers have the option to have their oil tested for a fee to see how their engine oil is doing?
Oh yes
Don’t use prolube in newer engines. If your vehicle recommends 5w-20 don’t use oil additives. Full synthetic oil is more than enough.
5w20 itself doesn't dictate that
And you're right you don't need additives if you e been changing your oil when you should have been
can you test stp ceramic
So your saying just use more prolube
Where you get the. Prolube.
But the mix or blend might be a issue.
No it's not
I over did it a bit, it's not some concoction that if you go a tad bit more it's no longer effective
I think finally I can trust Rich to give unbias oil test.
Now it’s time to test MMO Synthetic.
Can you try a 10%?
Can you run the prolube by itself or is it too thick for the tolerances????
Too thick.
A true test would have the pro lube mixed . Put a rod in the jug and spin it with a drill . Do a real test
Come on man I actually have a bearing testing machine that I do this on and you're trying to tell me that I need to do something different I have a machine that I've literally tested it on and it failed get out of here with that nonsense
I believe it failed but I would like you too mix the prolube into the oil better . That’s all . I was really hoping prolube was not snake oil but it looks like it is . Use a drill and spin a rod in the jug to mix the stuff is all I ask . I enjoyed your video
I was hoping prolube would do better as I wanted to use it in the gear box of my Harley . I’m disappointed that it’s crap
I’d like your content but you need to actually do the test and fluid ounces not weighted ounces the test is skewed because of that
This guy is try to make them look bad you notice how he started the test dry and them he said I have to go sand the the machine back smooth so he made it so it would fail and he knows he did
Just a suggestion and not trying to be a di*k. The way it was mixed is not anywhere near consistent. Who knows if Prolube was even in the test. You should figure out the ratio in the testing machine and add Prolube that way to be fair.
Are you lost in the sauce? Pro Lube seen this video and had no problem with it and after I kept exposing the ratio that they use is not correct guess what they did? They changed it now instead of 1 oz for every quart it's 3 oz for every quart
Do better goofy
Thats not an Engine.
Looks like snake oil!
Proves there videos wrong
Hey Rich would like to see you test Hot Shots Secret oil additive . Have been using it with positive results ! Thanks for all you do for us !……
I'm going to have to purchase all these items which I don't mind doing but it's easier if you guys actually send them to me
