You guys rock! Really sorry to hear about your Mum, have been through the same with both my mum and Dad. Feel for you both, keep up the amazing content!
The housings will be worn, no amount of ATF or 2 stroke oil down its throat will fix it. Second hand engines will also have worn housings and high stakes poker gamble on if they are useable. Your other issue here is that it looks like it has a broken or completely stuck corner seal or side seal which is why you are getting comp reading high one one face, then lower on two faces. Engine needs to be torn down and rebuilt.
Some people in the UK scrap the engine and put a ford focus st170 engine in with a conversion plate and a stand alone ECU. You can easily turbo these engines. The only reason we do this in the UK is mostly all small fast kit cars run a rx-8 gearbox. I'm sure the st170 engine is used in Australia. Zetec engine.
Thanks for all the videos! As an engine alternative, I do not know if CLR Motorsports ever completed their conversion kit for installing a 13B (from an FD for example) on the RX-8. That way you would keep it a rotary! Cheers
Holding the throttle to the floor on start up disables the fuel supply, that's why he suggested it, and I'd imagine the plugs are terribly fouled from the ATF fluid as you haven't mentioned changing them.
I've never had a Mazda RX8 but on my RX7 I had to put it in 2nd gear, clutch to the floor, out of habit I would pull the gear shift in tight towards me while in 2nd and it fired up almost every time.
You really got to get out and drive it. The seals jam and they need heat and flow and vibration / force to get them moving. Getting it hot free revving does not work. How about as a last effort try the carbon solving liquid ppl use to clean out intakes of direct injected engines? And let it soak one seal for at least a couple of hours before turning the engine over third of a turn.
Very strange I did my Rx8 compression test myself and I got lower values then you and it can start up hot all day long and I have had no issues not even with the idle.

Okay. I think you might have a fuel pump issue. You claim in the comment that it starts up with starter fluid, that means it just needs fuel. Why else would it not start? Pump is my first point to look at. Does fuel run in the line when the starter is engaged? By that it could mean the pump solenoid is busted in the fuse box.
