Driven... Sea foam will improve compression if the low compression is caused by excessive carbon build up within the engine around the seals (usually apex seals) this reduced their ability to travel freely and impacts compression. However if your low compression is down to worn seals then it will not help any further than what you have explained in this video.
I think the cranking speed went up a bit because you actually lost some compression if some of the carbon build up got removed, thus increasing the size of the combustion chamber. This is because your intake side stays the same volume because it had no carbon to begin with.
I've had many haha when I done my rx8 the neighbors called the fire department. I also done an old blazer that had sat for some years and the smoke monster from the show Lost came out of the exhaust, no lie this was a solid blackish blue metallic cloud that just floated away haha.
I have one question for you. Did you do all of this in one day? Because it doesn't look like it's been done properly. I had my engine decarbed by Elite Rotary Shop, and there was a significant difference. Seafoam helps a lot in cleaning gunk of the type that doesn't allow the apex seals to move up and down freely. I had extremely uneven rotor faces. On a single rotor, I had anywhere between 75 and 90 PSI. After the seafoam treatment, all rotor faces are at 90 PSI at 250RPM. Also, those numbers you showed after the test might be misleading. You now have higher crank speed, which in itself means more compression, but the numbers need to be adjusted to the cranking speed that they're supposed to be adjusted to. My 8 also brap-ed better after the decarbing was done ;)
Yes, i did it in 1 day. Sadly i don't know the method the elite rotary shop uses, but i'm guessing it's not the same. My method is the traditional method of seafoaming the rx8. The numbers i had were normalized by using a rotary compression calculator. here's the link:foxed.ca/index.php?page=rotarycalc You can try and run my numbers and see if you get a different result. My altitude is 33meters. I suppose your compression was tested with a rotary compression tester? In which case the results were more accurate. But i'm happy that you had a great experience with it and benefited from that :)
Yes, rotary compression tester. Ok, I wasn't sure if your results were normalized, so that's good. Elite didn't tell me exact way they do it(for obvious reasons), but all I know is that you should let the rotors soak in that stuff for a lot longer, like 1 whole day for just 1 rotor. It took them 2 days to do it, and I was told that the car would sit and "marinate" (if I could put it that way lol) before they would crank it again. Not sure if they did it 1 rotor at a time or both at same time, but it took a span of 2 days, that much I do know. I also know that if not done properly, it can deteriorate the other seals from the rotors (i.e. the side seals, etc. etc.).
*If you're wondering how I got the compression results (and why they seem strange), check out my compression test video, and you'll know why:* ruclips.net/video/iXZU7KKW6nc/видео.html&t=
You need to give the oil film time to re coat the housings and then do another compression test. The seafoam has washed all the oil film away, that is why you see a drop in compression after seafoam. All theoretical of course. Time will tell.
After seafoam it is good to put oil into the rotor housings before starting it as the film layer will be gone. Mazda actually turns the OMP up to full for 15 minutes after seafoaming. I put alot of 2 stroke oil straight through the plug holes before I started mine. Then the heavy premix helps the buildup of the oil film again. Check your compression in about a month. It is too early now.
I know you aren’t really supposed to seafoam the car very often but could you please make a video explaining how to actually seafoam the car like the details of it and everything and the effects like what to do after or if engine lights come on or if you should drive differently at first. All the tutorial vids suck and I’d love to do this to clean my 8 but I want to make sure I do it 100% correct and your tutorial vids are usually really good
I think you will see much better results by just using water ..it steam cleans the engine of carbon as it passes through.most losses of compression are from overheated warped, or damaged apex seal..or lack of clean oil..which can damage the rotor housings as well
Very great video! Would you please do the same video with Mazda Zoom Cleaner? That woud be awesome bro. Edit: I only see results between 5.9 and 6.3 bar after your cleaning... where did you measure 4.97 bar? Once again: 8-8.5 bar is very good result for a rotary engine. Brand new factory engines have that great result.
Have you normalized the readings? Check out my how to test a compression video, and you'll see that after the measurement you need to normalize the PSI that you have with the cranking speed, and the results are different :)
Great video. I have some problems finding those service nipples. I have a 07 6 port Grand Touring. Can you guide me where to find the service nipples? Thanks!
Hi im jaime i own a 2004 rx8 and im having issues with the breaks they feel reallt hard when i press them to stop. As im driving it feels like i need to press really hard to stop can u help me ?
Or, and this is just me spitballing ideas, you could swap a 13b REW turbo in there. Oh, did I mention I have one lying around? hehe. It does need a rebuild though.
Hey driven, I saw on your compression test video that your compression was 6.6 bar. I'm looking at a 8 with similar compression and I'm wondering how many k's you have put on since you did that test. I'm going to premix and have a sohn adapter.
Alright so about 2 weeks ago I started my RX-8 cold and there was white smoke coming out of the tailpipe, this had never happened before but now every once in awhile when I cold start it in the morning I will see white smoke sometimes it's a lot sometimes it's a little and sometimes it's not at all and it has been consistently going away when I start to drive (as far as I can tell). I know oil has a bluish smoke but this smoke is undoubtedly white so I know it's not oil. I have heard that it is coolant leaking into the combustion chamber or something like that but I'm not sure. I've searched on the RX-8 forums but everybody there is convinced that any small problem with an RX-8 is a for sure sign of apex seal failure and scream that you need a rebuild so now I have come here. Any input?
Could I just unplug my spark plugs instead of removing the throttle positioning sensor? It seems easier, will it do any harm? I also wanted to do this with cataclean for my converter but I didn't know where to find answers.
The cranking speed change will be due to less compression due to decarbon...the carbon takes up real-estate adding compression..plus reducing the ability of the steel to absorb heat
Hey mate, I have an s2 R3 with 90,000km and I am experiencing a shaky idle once fully warm and mis firing sounds in the exhaust. Car drives brilliant though but the idle is a bit annoying, compression is 136psi on all rotors too. Any fixes I could try other than buying a set of coils and plugs?
Replace the engine mounts to fix the shaking, and check this site out to fix your missfire :) www.rx8club.com/series-i-tech-garage-22/suffering-misfire-start-here-222280/
Hi guys, my RX8 idles a little weird. Starts up ok but when idling it idles low but then goes back to normal randomly. Does anyone know what this could be ?
Hey! Most of the "how to seafoam guides" on forums for rx8 they do both the ports at the same time, and here you do 1 port then start the engine and then after you do the second port. Is it ok to do both ports at the same time?
I did this because i saw almost everyone doing 1 port by 1. I though that putting seafoam in both housings at the same time, could potentially flood it. But that's just my personal fear, which is not proven. But i did it like that just to be safe :)
Oh okay thanks for the reply!:) I'm going to do a seafoaming soon i'll do both the houses at the same time and I can get back to you here with the results (incase it would flood or anything) atleast the next person after me knows what happens:)
Thanks for this video man. Looks like I will include a compression test in the pre-buy agreement. I'm looking for my first RX8 in a few months. Is there any paticular RX8 year that I should avoid? I found a few 6 speed 04's within 100 miles of me forsale. EDIT.. I JUST SUBBED😎
I actually did extensive searches to find the best oil for car and I came up with BMW Twin Turbo Longlife 5w30 being the best oil for less engine/apex seals wear. Here is the spreadsheet docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1PyqwOsgVomOqBHvoU0gBWsYpupRlfeIEYQaNcwTBbhA/edit?usp=drivesdk
mrawesomelemons when it comes to normal cars yes. But when it comes to high performance turbo/supercharger cars it's not like that. A good oil with good specs will have less wear on the long term. Apex seals touch the metal of the rotor making it wear so having a good oil sprayed on the rotor walls will decrease wear long term and prolong the life of the apex seals before a rebuild is needed.
i recommend the Idemitsu 5W30 full synthetic Oil, IDEMITSU developed only for the Mazda 787B on the 24Hr. LeMans run a high performance Oil for the 4 rotor rotary engine so i think this will gonna be the best oil for a rotary you can get, they're even producing Pre-Mix oil for every Rotary so i think this would be the best solution for the RX ^^
In my opinion, there is no best oil to use, where the oil has to burn and lubricate at the same time. The best oil combination is using a sohn adapter to run 2 stroke oil only to lubricate the apex seals and burn, and a separate fully synthetic oil 10w40 or 5w50 to lubricate the rest of the engine parts where the oil does not burn. Oil brands don't matter much, just dont use cheap oils :)
i looked sea foam up on the rx8 club and a couple of people said to put 2 cycle in after the sea foam to lube the rotary housing. Haven't done it myself but i feel like it would have more accurate results with doing it. LINK TO RX8 FORUM ----> www.rx8club.com/series-i-tech-garage-22/seafoam-newbee-186885/
Run seafoam every other fuel up til you have put it in 10x. (20 fuel ups) and during this redline it ALOT like every chance you get... Even on your off fuel ups redline the fuck out of it... Heat the carbon a lot and it will flake a bit then seafoam will dissolve it. After this process you will be surprised how much it cleans the internals. (This is 1 full bottle seafoam in the gas tank. Make sure it's 10gallons or more. The off fuel ups ensure you get most of the seafoam out before you add more again so you don't damage the engine by getting too concentrated of a mixture)
Hey bro I have I have a question for you? I have an 04 4 port automatic the motor lock had a housing replaced motor rebuilt. it has 90/90 compression it would turn on but it would hold idel. I've replace coils, mass flow, crank position sensor. and starter and I I bought a new gel optima batter. take a wial to turn on smh can't figure out what's next. the only thing I can think of is a bad primary injector but I'm not sure. do you have any thought on what it could be. the car was sitting for about four months. I don't if that helps you any. lmk ,I would really appreciate it
Mashing break trick: 1- without turning on the car open the switch 2- as soon as you open the switch quickly mash the brake pedal until you see the OIL gauge needle go up and then down 3-turn on the car and drive it This happen to me as well i changed Coils, Plugs, Plug wires,Red Gel Optima Battery, Cleaned my Injector(all 4 of them),Replace all 3 Valve Selenoid(2 behind intake one on the Air pump), replace both O2 sensors, i did replace the starter as well,i got no Catalytic, just had a rebuild as well about 3 weeks ago and after doing the pedal my car started to turn on again faster when hot and cold. turns out that sensor all it needed was a reset but you can't do it with a OBDII reader has to be through the brake pedal thing. Do you get a Cell code?, check engine light at at all?
flamez0101 I tryed it ,I saw a video on you tube but I'm not sure if I did it correctly everyone hits the brake pedel like 30 times, well I did that after turning on the acc switch and it didnt move any of the gages. Idk
flamez0101 at first I had the mass flow air sensor code. But I had just replace it ,so one of my friends has the snap on computer so erased the code and now I have no codes. I'm try that break Pedel to see if that dose anything
Ahhh i see that's what you've been workin on! a Vid about Sefoaming your Rotary.... i want to do it too and searched + watched so many Seafoam Vid's but in any vids about that, they're made so vague instructions so i dont get what i have to do to seafoam it woithout the risk damaging the engine... could you make a tutorial and explain how exactly to do this? i did even see a video about why the rotary should not be seafoamed..... the video is Called: " Seafoaming RX8?" from TUBULR im not sure if i should do this, but otherwise i want to clean the engine up a little bit to get some more compression back out of the engine. But as always, a great video and as always too, greeting from me and Yukina-Yuzuriha from germany to you and Zero-Wing :3 ill be stay tuned 4 ya! #Brap #RX8 #JustRotaryThings #Mazda #Z00MZ00M #Carguy #JDM
Well, he DID mention there wasa tutotrial, and that it was linked in description. Hold on..... *scrolls up* yes, it was in fact, in the description. Who would've figured eh? :)
Well, it's not that difficult. The video that i've listed in the description is kind of clear of what to do. Disconnect 3 connectors shown, remove one of the 2 caps on the side ports, attach a tube to one of the side ports of the engine, and the other side of the tube in the seafoam bottle. Go inside the car and crank it for 5 seconds wait 10 and crank again for 5 secs. remove the tube, put back the cap on the side ports, and start the car to get the smoke out :) hahah i've seen that video yeah, and seafoam will not destroy your engine, but it if done frequently, it will clog your catalytic converter. Hmmm, you won't be getting compression back with seafoam, the car will just idle and start better, and maybe have a smoother ride. Thank you so much ! :D Wing Zero says hello back :3
X H Some time has passed since then, and i got a lot of feedback on the compression test, and also the part you mention. So to make the compression test guide more precise i'm re-uploading the compression test video. Thanks for your feedback :)
I will do that, only i have to tear down a lot of parts, and it's a paint to do it twice. So when i'll have everything disassembled i'll make 2 videos. 1 is the sohn adapter, and the other about the noise :)
Thats after taxes? A month? 😐 Insurance alone for a 16yo is probably gonna be at least $140-160 a month, and thats for BASIC liability. Im 42 and I pay $100 a month for FULL coverage on a 2017 Lancer ES(non evo) Basic liability on a 2004 RX8 would probably run me half that.
Could be that the engine was more warmed up than when i did the first test. That wold explain the lower compression. But this is just my theory. Imo, seafoam as it self does not gain lost compression, and if it does the result is minimal with no noticeable gain.

So you're telling me if i buy seafoam my rx8 will blow fat O's? Pfft screw compression that alone is worth 8 bucks.
Driven... Sea foam will improve compression if the low compression is caused by excessive carbon build up within the engine around the seals (usually apex seals) this reduced their ability to travel freely and impacts compression.
However if your low compression is down to worn seals then it will not help any further than what you have explained in this video.
Essex Rotary thanks for the explanation, I really appreciate your input on this 😊
In his case carbon build up was actually sealing the engine. So in final what he actually did was make it worse ;)
I have a question...can i have bad compression by the use of wrong oil utilisation??
@@frankgiasson8734 yes, if you don't use the correct oils you'll have all kinds of buildup and it'll start clogging shit up
I think the cranking speed went up a bit because you actually lost some compression if some of the carbon build up got removed, thus increasing the size of the combustion chamber. This is because your intake side stays the same volume because it had no carbon to begin with.
lol @ 2:41 your 8 blowing perfect smoke rings. Gangster af
I might try this. Although doing a track day will get rid of the carbon too!
But will you shoot gangsta smoke rings ? I think so too :P hahaha
Haha true that!

My 8 also brap-ed better after the decarbing was done ;)
Yes, i did it in 1 day. Sadly i don't know the method the elite rotary shop uses, but i'm guessing it's not the same. My method is the traditional method of seafoaming the rx8.
The numbers i had were normalized by using a rotary compression calculator. here's the link:foxed.ca/index.php?page=rotarycalc
You can try and run my numbers and see if you get a different result. My altitude is 33meters.
I suppose your compression was tested with a rotary compression tester? In which case the results were more accurate.

Well, i've put a higher ratio of premix inside before the test just for this matter. But i don't think the compression will get any better

i can just imagine my neighbors calling the fire fighters thinking a fire is going in with all that smoke
😂😂😂
I never used seafoam before. instead I use berrymans b12 every time I change my oil. It works pretty good for me.
Awesome man! I'm glad to hear you like it and have good results :)
Rx8mauri_ que
Thx for video Man!
No problem!
Hello ..can any one help me?..my rx8 ...not accelerating right...when I press own on gas it is taking a while developing speed
Great video. I have some problems finding those service nipples. I have a 07 6 port Grand Touring. Can you guide me where to find the service nipples? Thanks!
What would happen if you pull in the seafoam through the brake vacuum hose? 🤔
It works the same
Hi im jaime i own a 2004 rx8 and im having issues with the breaks they feel reallt hard when i press them to stop. As im driving it feels like i need to press really hard to stop can u help me ?

You should remove the ECPS, not the TPS. This is to prevent fuel and spark. You could also remove the plug wires and fuel pump fuse, I suppose

Air conditioning bud. When the compressor kicks in the revs drop. I usually turn mine off at a traffic light and back on when moving
If it's not AC it can be a bad engine mount. Seems to resonate at certain RPM
Is there any way to make the s15 road legal in america

Yes, but i need money for that, which i need to save up :) Don't worry, next year between spring and summer, it'll be done :)
You lost a full 1 bar on Rotor 1 and 0,5 bar on Rotor 2 in just 2 weeks, what the hell happened? :| Measurement error?
If you compression bar ls less then 6 you need a rebuild

Add seafoam with premix?
Ha, love it!
I don't if that helps you any. lmk ,I would really appreciate it
Joham Borrero did you try the mashing brake trick?
Mashing break trick:
1- without turning on the car open the switch
2- as soon as you open the switch quickly mash the brake pedal until you see the OIL gauge needle go up and then down
3-turn on the car and drive it
This happen to me as well i changed Coils, Plugs, Plug wires,Red Gel Optima Battery, Cleaned my Injector(all 4 of them),Replace all 3 Valve Selenoid(2 behind intake one on the Air pump), replace both O2 sensors, i did replace the starter as well,i got no Catalytic, just had a rebuild as well about 3 weeks ago and after doing the pedal my car started to turn on again faster when hot and cold. turns out that sensor all it needed was a reset but you can't do it with a OBDII reader has to be through the brake pedal thing.
Do you get a Cell code?, check engine light at at all?
flamez0101 I tryed it ,I saw a video on you tube but I'm not sure if I did it correctly everyone hits the brake pedel like 30 times, well I did that after turning on the acc switch and it didnt move any of the gages. Idk
It has to be done within like 8 seconds. So as soon as you turn the key, quickly start mashing the brake pedal.
flamez0101 at first I had the mass flow air sensor code.

Go inside the car and crank it for 5 seconds wait 10 and crank again for 5 secs. remove the tube, put back the cap on the side ports, and start the car to get the smoke out :)
hahah i've seen that video yeah, and seafoam will not destroy your engine, but it if done frequently, it will clog your catalytic converter.
Hmmm, you won't be getting compression back with seafoam, the car will just idle and start better, and maybe have a smoother ride. Thank you so much ! :D Wing Zero says hello back :3
Flyingdutchy33 my man always keepin' it real ;)
You left the valve core out of the compression tester. The compression tester should hold pressure until it is released.
The way you test the compression on a rotary engine is a bit different than on a piston engine. You can check out my how to test compression video :)
X H Some time has passed since then, and i got a lot of feedback on the compression test, and also the part you mention. So to make the compression test guide more precise i'm re-uploading the compression test video. Thanks for your feedback :)
that video show just your engine need rebuild
Vape god RX-8
King will be king

When are you going to do engine rebuild?:)
I'm saving money for it. I'll rebuild it next year :)
Driven by madness
And what is the price? I want to buy rx8 but i can find any price for a rebuilt..
GermanysNextTopTerrorist I really doight it that’ll be a good price Mazda be killing people any dealership
what happened to the engine noise that's still a mystery
It'll be sorted in december when i'll install my Sohn Adapter.
+Driven by madness what's this problem by the way i think you should make a video basically for this problem only that may help out a lot of persons
I will do that, only i have to tear down a lot of parts, and it's a paint to do it twice. So when i'll have everything disassembled i'll make 2 videos. 1 is the sohn adapter, and the other about the noise :)
Is this a good car for a 16 year old who makes 400 a month
You'll have an entire video dedicated on your question up on thursday :)
Thanks your the best
In summary, no
Thats after taxes? A month? 😐
Insurance alone for a 16yo is probably gonna be at least $140-160 a month, and thats for BASIC liability.
Im 42 and I pay $100 a month for FULL coverage on a 2017 Lancer ES(non evo) Basic liability on a 2004 RX8 would probably run me half that.
Refried Beans , that's about right, I'm 55 and own a 2004 RX8, I pay $56 a month full coverage
I heard seafoam is no good for the rotary...it's too strong and eats away at the apex seals
hmmm first time i hear that. Many people have been doing this for years, and as far as i know, no one complained about that
Seafoam ery day!
and that's how to 1000 years of fog came to be :P
The number may mean the engine became worce! I'll ask Japanese rotary shop!
ぐつさか ok, let me know what they say :)
Carbon smells so good in the atmosphere lol.
But let's be clear: It worsened the compression ratio.
Could be that the engine was more warmed up than when i did the first test. That wold explain the lower compression. But this is just my theory. Imo, seafoam as it self does not gain lost compression, and if it does the result is minimal with no noticeable gain.
redsuns window sticker... RED PILL
Steve Nelson you bet 💪
Smoke foam everyday
That's what snoop dog does, and you don't see him complaining about carbon deposits :P
slovenian chrisfix
Thanks 😉
Gah, we get it, you vape. lol
Sounds like an airblower
Rebuild that engine....too much carbon build up...
Give my bank account time to recover :P
it sounds foamy
