    Love your videos, all your videos are entertaining and informative for anybody looking into getting a rotary powered vehicle. Also wanted to add this for incase you want to make a video about this there is a premix mod kit you can install on most rotary powered vehicles. It’s great for lubricating the engine but there are some draw backs on using it too will have to adapt it to the omp I have ran it on my 04 rx8 with no issues also had oil catch can aftermarket radiator/fans secondary air injection delete midpipe ls2 coils and also had the rx7 upper intake manifold adapting to the rx8 lower intake manifold the rx7 intake didn’t do nothing to performance but made an improvement on the temperature on the rotary as you know they are known to get extremely hot “especially on hot days”

      Daii Jesus I use VersaTune but there are a few different software brands you can use. Basically did a bunch of benchmark pulls, pulled back the timing, load and VE, and put a safer fuel map.. put regular in it and slowly started to increase while watching for knock. I’m currently at 38 degrees at 8k rpm with no knock whatsoever with regular 87 fuel. My engine is far from stock though, so I wouldn’t go as far as 38 degrees on a stock renny 😅

      @ryankimura6653 Mazda has developed metered oil injection because it is the only way to deliver the correct amount of oil when fuel injection is used.
      If the OMP, lines and injectors are properly inspected and maintained? There is no better method for lubrication.
      These are very expensive, high maintenance engines to service properly and taking short cuts and cheap out on inspection and maintenance costs will only destroy the engine more quickly.
      The biggest problem with these cars is the value of the car is far less than the average cost to properly keep them running, most of the ones I see now are limping around with damaged engines with no compression... or power output. They just make lots of noise.

    Series 2 has solved that with a 3rd injector covering the middle portion. So it’s unnecessary to premix. For series 1 this is absolutely necessary if you want it to survive.

    What kind of problems would running 87 vs 91 cause? Both are exactly the same besides octane rating and all a higher octane does is reduce detonation/ping. If you aren’t detonating on 87 then going to a higher octane does nothing. Zero benefit to running a higher octane unless you have detonation. I am a professional turbo engine builder with extensive time on the dyno and tuning and I am very curious as to where you got your information on octane ratings and what these extreme damages are you speak of.

    • @PeterArmour
      @PeterArmour 3 года назад

      It comes down to the basic thermodynamics of compressing volumes. The higher the compression ratio of the engine, the more the air/fuel heats up as it is compressed, and without a high octane level, predetonation can occur. These renesis engines are high compression, plus when you premix, you are lowering the effective octane level of the fuel, so it is super important to be using a high octane level fuel to prevent possible predetonation. As a turbo engine builder, I am assuming you are running lower compression ratio engines which except boost better. And as long as you have a proper intercooler set up with a low compression ratio engine, you probably don't need a higher octane, but that would really come down to experimental testing because everyone's set up is different. Either way, if you can afford a higher octane fuel, it makes sense to prevent predetonation and damage to your engines.

But predetonation on renesis engines sends a jolt which can cause blowby, break off a piece of carbon build up in the exhaust port, or even break an apex seal (the smaller apex seals on the renesis engines are much more prone to breaking than the larger ones on the 13brews). Not sure exactly how piston engines are affected by detonation in comparison, but rotary engines, especially the renesis engine are very much affected by predetonation.

    Why 91 octane no ones really made an in depth video about that for Rotary engines

    • @PeterArmour
      @PeterArmour 3 года назад

      Its not specific to the type of engine, but depends purely on the compression ratio. For renesis engines the compression ratio is high (10:1). This is the ratio between the largest volume of air to the smallest (compressed) volume of air. For a high compression ratio, a greater volume of air/fuel mixture is being compressed which raises the temperature greatly. If the octane level is not high enough, this addition of heat from compression will cause predetonation (bad). A higher octane level in gasoline is more resistant to this, so that's why you should use 91+ in all high compression gasoline engines.

    • @sandervanderkammen9230
      @sandervanderkammen9230 3 года назад

      @@PeterArmour The Mazda 13B-MSP engine also lacks the high swirl or "Quench" chamber technology found in modern engines.
      Wankel engines suffer from both the disadvantages of the old flat-head type and the old Hemisperical chamber.
      Poor flame propagation and a large surface to volume ratio mean the Wankel is more prone to both pre-ignition and erratic high brisance combustion i.e. detonation with the same static CR and fuel octane rating.
      This inherent design flaw is one of the major factors in the Wankel engine becoming obsolete in 2012.

      In Germany a different octane rating system is used... those numbers don't match up on the same scale.

    No bueno poor engineering . My granddaughter's significant other purchased a 2006 rx8 nothing but headaches. 1st time aftermarket clutch no go. Tryed again with excedy clutch kit no go again. Wants to blow up the car. Wanted an everyday car . I warned him about all the issues. Told him to get a toyota or honda . Only plus is he got it cheap. Wonder why? I own a 06 sti my son has a 98 honda prelude

      the clutches are fairly reliable. he probably just bought a bad car. how many miles did it have? how many owners were there? did the previous owner premix? what was the compression of the rotary engine? all things you should know before buying a rotary, especially the compression test results, since the engine is the most fragile, but best part of the car. everything else is pretty rock solid. clutches come and go in every car though so yup.

      Improperly installed. Been running an Exedy clutch for years now and it’s still great. Make sure you get the entire clutch kit don’t just replace the pressure plate for example.

    So long as you're taking the car out on the highway from time to time and running it hard, the catalytic converter will never clog up.

      *PLEASE STOP SPREADING FALSE INFORMATION.*
      Using the wrong motor oil will destroy your catalytic converter, 2-stroke motor oil contains detergents, extreme pressure and viscosity index additives that contaminates and fouls the catalyst.
      Mazda only recommends 4-stroke motor oil that meets API SL or EC GF3 specification.
      No available 2-stroke motor oil meets these minimum rating.

    • @alouisschafer7212

      no catalytic converter poisoning is real and it takes place over its lifespan inevitably
      Contaminants in the exhaust gas accelerate that. When an engine has high oil consumption that can foul CATs to the point of needing replacement

      @@alouisschafer7212 Using the wrong oil or too much oil will foul the converter and destroy it, it will also foul the spark plugs and cause carbon deposits on the apex seals.
      2-stroke oil does not meet Mazda minimum specification for fouling and carbon deposits

    Premixing is a monumentally stupid waste of time and money and will cause damage to an otherwise healthy engine.
