I bought my First Motorcycles back in 1968-69 , first a 1965 French made 50cc Mobylette followed soon after by a 350 Royal Enfield Bullet made in the Mid 1950's. At the time back then I was still in High School and Economically disadvantaged so both bikes were of the " Fixer up" variety. I learned a lot about Motorcycles with these machines. I managed to get both road worthy for short local trips. I really like my Royal Enfield and still to this day would not mind having a New One to putt along on, it is a Great Bike of the Old School Classic Nature, Just what I like!!

I am a Royal Enfield fan since the days it was an Indian lore legend, and so much happy to see the company grow and go global. This model combines pure classic looks and real world practicality, with a great price, winner all around. It is perfect lesson for other manufacturers on what motorcycles should be. Not sure the 20 bhp would suffice, but for most uses it probably will.

I passed my test on a DR 125, then jumped to a KLR650 - owned two of those, but felt I’d lost some of the fun and agility of my 125cc.

It's hard to see why people rave so much about this 20hp bike... until you ride it. It's remarkable, an entirely modern bike with a peach of an engine, a slick, precise gearbox, ABS disks, and very well set up suspension. Yet it retains all of the fun and character of older Royal Enfields, without any of the foibles. I'm loving mine, which has replaced both an 2008 500 AVL Electra, and a BMW F800GS. It's _precisely_ the right amount of bike to have fun on, as you get to use every bit of the performance. Royal Enfield have absolutely nailed it.

Just taken mine out for its first ride. Bloody love it! Back to basics biking - ideal for exploring the lanes of (sunny?) Devon. Just simple fun - like wot biking used to be before we got hoodwinked that we needed 150bhp - and then got further hoodwinked that we needed abs, traction control, gyroscopic inverters etc etc blah blah in order to tame the said 150bhp. (Yeah I got hoodwinked too). Not any more! But I won't be burning rubber - just gently warming it. Only downside to the bike is that I can't get the Heartbeat theme tune out of my head!

You nailed the essence of this bike and what biking is for so many of us, particularly those of us above 60. In the States, there is such a shortage of these bikes for many years and many a young man went to his cold dark box because his first trip to the store resulted in a 100 hp 600cc sportbike he was ill skilled to handle. I saw this in the making one day when I went to the local Honda/Kawasaki dealer for some spray polish. I mom was signing on for a son's first bike, a 750 super sport. My God, what the hell were they thinking. And the salesman, he played right into the kids fantasy for a big sale. I gave the kid a 50% chance of sailing off a road airborne at 90 mph or more. The Japanese used to own this market with bikes like the CB350 twin, the 450 twin, Yamaha 500 single. Age and nerve damage have forced me to downsize from mighty touring machines to a 250 and 150 scooter. But I want a motorcycle that feels proper. So Royal Enfield here I come as the only choice in America. American riders of the baby boom generation are aging and downsizing. The manufacturers just don't get it that we don't want an 800lb behemoth liter bike anymore that we can't push around our garage. I hope the classic makes it over the pond. But nothing wrong with the Meteor. Keep up the great reviews.

I commute to work on it every day, and I recently did a road trip on it (back roads with speed limits of 45 or 55 MPH, to keep off the 75 MPH freeways) from Dover NH to Philadelphia PA - 914 miles round trip, and it performed absolutely brilliantly. Comfortable, easy to handle, great gas mileage - I LOVE this bike.
I've added a tail rack and pannier bags to mine.

Partly on your review, and that of Stuart Fillingham, I purchased one of these on Saturday. Have just completed its run in mileage and have serviced it today. Cracking machine and the style is off the charts. The most retro of the retros and the king of cool style. If ever a bike deserved the moniker 'Classic' it's this bike. It's a thing of beauty and plenty powerful for practical daily use and a little weekend hooning. I agree totally about the mudguards too. The clue is in the name - they're supposed to stop everything getting covered in crud, which very few do nowadays. I personally love that colour scheme. Another great video from the best Motorcycle reviewers on RUclips.
The very first motorcycle I ever rode on was a 750cc Royal Enfield Interceptor, that my oldest brother rented for a summer day back in 1962. I was hooked on motorcycles from that point on. I remember how much I liked the look, especially the chrome tank.
This Classic 350, like their previous 500 classic, really captures that vintage retro look. I'm old school, and I like that full front fender. It looks good, and helps keep most of the road filth off the motor. That engine shield catches the rest. I like it.
That whole front end, in fact, looks like it came off a 50s/early 60s motorbike. But I wish they would get rid of that out of place 1/2" manufacturing lip running all the way around the outer edge of the gas tank. It looks cheap production. And it's certainly not retro. Harley, Indian, and BMW are now the only manufactures, that I know of, that are not doing that on their retro machines.

As a Meteor 350 owner (both bikes share the same engine, frame, and brakes), the engine is a GEM! I like my Meteor so much that I'm thinking of getting a Classic 350 when it becomes available in the US.
The Meteor is my 12th two wheeler. It's not the biggest I've ever owned, but it's among the BEST I've ever owned! As someone who turned 60 last month, I was looking for a smaller, easier to manage, economical, and fun bike. It's easy and inexpensive to own. I had a ZRX1100 back in the day, so I've done the speed thing and lived to tell about it. At this stage, I just want to enjoy the ride... :)

Again great review. I didn't think 20bhp was enough but finally decided to have a test ride on a meteor (3hrs) and was surprised by how well it kept up with UK traffic on A and B roads. It even managed 70mph on dual carriageway, 2 up, but slowed a little on hills. The handling improved even more 2 up around the bumpy back lanes, I was bracing for wallowing etc but it just glided over the rough surfaces, even better than my old (2002) triumph trophy. The limiting factor was more wind pressure than the engine. I've never owned or ridden a 4 stroke single before and it really impressed me plus has a great exhaust sound for a euro 5 machine. Flipped a coin between the meteor and the classic. Went with meteor and am now waiting for delivery..... Hopefully it will complement my triumph which is at the complete opposite of the scale, heavy, fast and great wind protection (and bloody warm on the hot summer days in traffic) as apposed to light and with plenty of cooling air for the good weather to come....

Love these outright honest RE reviews. Though I have a Triumph Speedmaster and love it, think it is the best bike out there, I would not hesitate to buy one of these RE’s, especially because of the pricing, and as you say, simplicity. I think Triumph has got it right between the level of technology and simplicity along with torque and speed. But there is a lot to say about the simplicity of cables, and the beauty of analogue. Lately, my 18 year old daughter has become interested in motorcycles, and I would purchase one of these in a heartbeat for her, maybe even over a Triumph, because of the lower cc’s, and again, simplicity.

There's quite a few retro style scrambler bikes on the market, but all of them have stumpy little front mudguards that detract from otherwise looking like a practical machine (to me at least). So… picked up the bike 9 days ago, got it about halfway home (maybe 5 kms) before someone turned left in front of me at a light with zero warning. Woke up 2+ hours later in a catscan machine with a concussion and lower leg injuries. Not the way I wanted to start my RE journey! Still waiting to hear of the fate of my bike from the insurer, but a friend who drove by the wreckage thought it would probably be a write off… less than 20 kms on it. The story is so f’d up that it’s almost funny.

Brilliant vídeo. In fact better than the Classic 350... only my beloved 2018 euro 4 Classic 500. The thump is notoriously better, it has some more grown sound even with stock exhaust, a reassuring engine braking, a 125 consumption, and mostly it has a real and effective kickstarter meaning that we can start it with a low battery after some weeks parked in the garage. It's my 16.th bike since 1968 .I can say that all you said is valid concerning the 500, as well to the new Classic 350 although I haven't tried it yet. it's the right bike to coronate any biker career. Equivalent sensations in life?. Only 1982 BMW R 100 RS and 1990 BMW R 80 GS long long time ago. I will keep mine for now

I've been riding since the 80s and want to buy this bike. I appreciate the in depth, no nonsense review. It's also refreshing to have a reviewer that doesn't think that a lack of heated grips, TFN panels and high end performance mods is a shortcoming. I like your review so much that I just subscribed.

Riding a Classic Chrome 500 EFI for over 4,5 years and 27.000km. I'm used to the Enfield groove and enjoy it very much besides riding a lovely W800 and CB1100 for more years than the RE.
Last year the Bullet 500 and the derived motorbikes out of it were put out of the market in Germany. There was a relative small Enfield scene in Germany, some riders participate in an Enfield Forum, which I also do. Whenever I ride my Classic people will like it and take a look at the motorbike. But only few people bought a 500 RE in all the years it was sold in Germany. Rumors about not being reliable, being out of bad quality, being way to underpowered for modern traffic and not built for European streets were the reasons for it.
Then Enfield created new models like the HIM or their 650 twins, which in my eyes watered the idea and iconic character of the Bullet and 500 which stand for Royal Enfield like nothing else will ever stay. But more and more customers like these bikes which are mainly sold by a relative cheap price. Enfield is gathering ground in Germany slowly and evenly.
Now the manufactor comes out with a 350 as a Meteor and a Classic. Many people clap their hands and are delighted by them. More and more buy them. They are much cheaper than the Classic Chrome 500 had been with 6.500€ years ago. That alone leads riders into temptation to buy one. RE knows it.
Are they better? It depends on your eyesight. As a 500 rider I write no. The classic 350 looks okay in green as shown here in video. Don't know how it will ride, won't testride it. In my eyes the 500 has a lot more character optically and the way the engine is working, it is more powerful too. Though not a fast bike.
The Classic will find its way into the hands of buyers, no doubt. But what makes me wonder is, why it experiences more acceptance than the 500. It has less power, I know these bikes are not about power, has a smaller engine, and weighs more.
I guess it has something to do with the price and maybe that times has changed a bit and makes these smaller single cylinders more desirable again. Not only in India.

Brother I’m 6’4” so any bike is going to look a bit small. Love the 350’s look! I think you look more at home on the 350 than the Interceptor. Both are wonderful bikes! Hard to choose! Thanks for the video!

I love the Royal Enfields: The classic look, the beautiful rumble, the incredible price. I would buy one immediately as a second bike but I think I'm just too tall for them @ 6'5". I know a guy from India and asked him if he thought I would fit on an Enfield and he said "Hell no!". This is supposed to be making its way to the US this year and I think I'm going to have cruise over to the dealer on my Vulcan to give it a test ride. This sits something like 125 mm higher but length is about 320 mm less (cruisers being typically lower and longer). I think that this brand is about to take the world by storm when people in the West are going to be looking for more economical transportation. It's a simple and basic classic bike with a brand that seems to be making the right decisions.
