    Good review, my father-in-law turned 92 a couple of weeks ago, and is the proud owner of R.E. 350 Meteor. He owned his first R.E. when he was 16 years old, has owned a few other R.E.'s and many other bikes or different styles over the years. He doesn't spend long hours riding these days but throwing a leg over the saddle still puts a massive smile on his face and gives him a lot of pleasure.

    I own a Classic 350 Signals. It can do a highway here in the US, but the whole time the bike is gently letting you know that the ride would be so much better on a back road. “Don’t you want to slow down? Let’s take the next exit and see what’s down that county road… the scenery is probably amazing”
    So you turn off the big road onto a two lane, and the bike just settles in and says “oh, yes, that’s much better”. The bike was right all along. You grin. Your Royal Enfield is such a wonderful traveling companion, the Golden Labrador of motorcycles. A loyal, good-natured friend who makes friends wherever you go.

    There is something so attractive to the Classic 350. Whether it’s the visual appeal and sound or the stress free type of ride, in an enjoy the moment type of way.
    I see it as an addition to the collection rather than a replacement. I am sure that I can squeeze one in to the garage without ‘someone’ noticing 🤔.

    Hi Nick, I knew you would like the little Classic 350, it’s a shame they didn’t give you a prettier one 😉 (just my opinion). Being the proud owner of both the Classic 350, and Interceptor 650, I can safely say they are both brilliant at the roles they were intended to fulfil. The Classic, although happy enough on faster roads, is best bimbling on back lanes. The Interceptor, although happy enough on back lanes, is in it’s element on free flowing A & B roads. If people are happy just plodding around, then the Classic will be fine, but if they feel the urge to get a wriggle on occasionally, then go for the Interceptor. The Classic does have a nice burble, but just fit a de-cat pipe (I have a Hitchcock’s one), and they sound beautiful. I am a very lucky boy to have both. I was up at Red Bank/Archers cafe, the other day, and an elderly couple came chatting, thinking it was an old bike, then comes the reminiscing. This is typical of what happens when you park up with the Classic, I love chatting with people like this. Cheers

    Well, I bought one and I'm very happy with it indeed. The cost to keep the T100 (post pcp) was an issue so I swapped. I mentioned earlier that most of our riding these days is sub-60 mph and the Classic 350 is superb for this. Pillion comfort is good (I'm told by my Fiancée). The build quality is excellent for the price too. Others (Triumph) could learn from RE - that's how to build a gearbox. I'm still running in at the moment so I'm limited to 50 mph max for the next 1000 miles. But this is a bike you explore the backroads and lanes on and I covered the 350 miles to 1st service in less than a fortnight. Currently getting nearly 100mpg with pillion.

  • @bikahjoeUK
    @bikahjoeUK 9 месяцев назад +2

    Great, honest appraisal of the Classic 350 - the bike I currently own - and very interesting to me as I was lured to your channel because of your Triumph T120. I love my 350 and actually have the red and chrome version (like the one you showed in the cutaway) by virtue of it looking more "classic" and it really is a stunner, attracting friendly attention everywhere I go. But as much as I love it, I do feel the frustration of its power limitations. Currently it's my only bike and as such is a "do everything" machine. Sublime for bimbling around the back roads or for sunny runs to the coast but overtaking anything doing more than 50mph has to be carefully planned and often aborted due to the power just not being there. As for motorway/dual-carriage riding, that's best avoided unless you're content to be stuck behind the big lorries. It will do 70mph...just about...but with my size and weight (I'm a big chap) it's far happier at 65 and below. And that is why I am considering getting a T120 as my next bike...or possibly in addition. Similar in style but worlds apart in available power.

    • @MOTOUK1
      @MOTOUK1  9 месяцев назад +1

      Hi and thanks for tuning in. I know what you mean re power. I think the T100 or T120 is the perfect bike plenty of torque and good as a one bike garage. Wishing you a good 2024 🥳

    My Classic 'Stealth' is arriving in afew days. I reckon with the state of our roads, this bike is perfect. My family lives in Devon a 6.5-7hr drive from Cumbria by car on motorways. I'm NOT taking my bike on those roads, as I'm not suicidal. 'A' roads will add maybe another 4hrs and more miles, but there'll be plenty of munchie and fuel outlets en route.

    I thought it didn’t have enough top end to keep you out of trouble as they say. Funny thing I tend not to beyond 60mph anyway. I could nearly have 3 of these for what I paid! Yes Triumph build quality is better but stock tyres and suspension is very poor for the price point.Regards

      T100 owner here and I have to agree regarding the speed at which I ride these days. I'm 60 next year and have been riding since a man with a clipboard said, "congratulations, you've passed" 😂. I've had all kinds of bikes over the years but my riding style has changed significantly over the years. Definitely more risk-averse and ever decreasing speed limits have changed my motorcycling. I can't manage the weight of a behemoth tourer any more either. Ironically, this combination has actually reignited the spirit of why I got into motorcycling all those years ago. It's all about sitting at 50mph, enjoying the freedom and watching the scenery roll by. Not having to worry about where you stop, the gradient you're on and if you'll be able to turn the bike around actually means you get out and explore a lot more. Bikes like the Meteor, Classic and Hunter 350 make so much sense and are becoming more and more relevant as the years go by. Great vid!

      @@MOTOUK1 On a bike tour all sorts of pleasant surprises happen! I went to Carnforth Railway Station and found it was the setting for the filming of "Brief Encounter"...exciting for an old git like me! BTW, I weigh about (koff koff) 250 lbs, and with luggage the bike never missed a beat in hilly countryside for over 3000 miles. Absolutely marvellous machine. You gave it a very comprehensive review which was a pleasure to watch, thanks

    • @tada2508
      @tada2508 Год назад

      No no, it’s no mystery. All these bikes are built in the same Enfield factory in Chennai. There the bike costs just 1,800 £. Because of the taxes and tariffs the cost here in the U.K. almost doubles. I reckon that with the Indo-U.K. FTA slated by year end, the price should come down even further.

    Excellent review. By the way, your Triumph Bonneville T120 should have tubeless tires. They are supposed to come from the factory that way.

      No the Bonny has tuned tyres, thinking of doing a conversion at some point

    • @PhilipBallGarry
      @PhilipBallGarry Год назад

      The T100 and T120 have tubed tyres. The Speed Twin and Street Twin (now called the Speed Twin 900) have tubeless. I do worry a bit as roadside puncture repair is impossible due to the rim and bead interface requiring a tyre machine but it's horses for courses I suppose. A tubeless conversion is a good idea that I may do to mine if I keep it at the end of it's pcp. Or, I might consider one of the new all black Interceptors which have some significant upgrades including tubeless alloy wheels and a much more durable engine finish for all year riding 👍

    • @gregs5738
      @gregs5738 Год назад +1

      That's odd because my T120 has tubeless in the U.S. I even did a Google search and the results come back as tubeless. May be different in the U.K.
