  • I played this as a kid (luckily still have my Wii U with it so I can still play it) and it was great. Definitely a nice twist for the mainline Pokemon games. Just a nice 25 minute video about the game and why it's so great.

    We didn’t know how good we had it as kids, my first game was diamond, and I got explorers of darkness , then platinum, HG/SS, Explorers of Sky, poke park, pokemon rangers, as well as black and white 1 and 2. On the ds you could also plug in emerald. Truly the golden age of Pokemon

      It was nintendos golden age as well honestly. Most DS and Wii titles (1st party) were just so good. We don't get games like that anymore

    Honestly, as far as the storytelling goes, EoS is my favorite Pokemon game by far. A masterpiece of a game. The Dusknoir betrayal? Insane. Grovyle self-sacrifice? Gut-wrenching. (And the special episode where you see what happens to Grovyle and all the Pokemon of the future!!!) The end where you disappear??? That was so crazy. Everything in this game felt like it had stakes. Like yeah, you can fix the time gear issue, but if you do, you'll disappear. Keeping that information from your partner all through Temporal Tower seems so realistic and overall heartbreaking. I remember playing through that part the first time and thinking that there was no way the creators would actually have you "die" like that. But they did, and even though you come back, THAT is how you tell a story. I always felt so connected to the characters and you can tell how much effort the creators put into this game. So amazing and emotional (also Grovyle x Celebi for life)

    This game imo was the last "hurrah" from the entire pokemon series, the one that i can see the entire love and care over anything else, at least if we count brand new games because DX remake really give me hope for this franchise to be better in the future (something i cant say the same for Diamond and Pearl remakes).
    I hope Gamefreak makes a new 2D PMD game that maintains whats so good about the OG, or at least if not, a port because playing it on emulator is a bit tedious because of how the DS is made and also blurry (im plan to buy a DS just for this game)

      Honestly, ya I can agree. I feel it will never get better than this and prob never get close to the level of this game. I came to terms that the Mystery Dungeon series, for me at least, might be over. But DX was cool. I don’t know a port of this because I got it on my Wii U. But ya, I def feel like it was a last hurrah type of thing.

      Don't get your hopes up about the main Pokémon series, Game Freak has nothing to do with Mystery Dungeon. The whole series was made by Chunsoft, now renamed Spike Chunsoft.

    Quick correction on your recruitment section as it's not quite right:
    In the 1st game, if you or the recruited pokemon fainted, then that was it its gone for good. There was also a limit on how many recruitment's you could do in a dungeon, so if your team has 4 pokemon, you can not recruit anymore in that session.
    I'm not sure about explorers of time and darkness, but in sky once you've made a successful recruitment, that's it its considered 100% recruited. Even if you or the recruitment faints in a dungeon you will still keep them, they will just be considered dismissed until you visit the chimecho assembly. You can also choose to send home new recruits during a dungeon as well.

    Another thing for gameplay is that the game punishes the player if they are greedy with items and money by making you lose half your items and all your money if you faint in a dungeon. This big drawback will make it so players will manage their items a lot better than simply coming into a dungeon with the bag full and will make players engage with the bank to keep their money safe unlike regular pokemon where fainting only made you lost a certain amount of money.

    • @NewYorkMikes2
      @NewYorkMikes2  9 месяцев назад

      Oh ya I agree a lot of more and items just felt so much more valuable. I never wanted to faint when I had the friend bow and always sucked getting reviver seeds slugged. Money was actually important too. And it wasn’t hard to feint in a dungeon later in the games. Random silver wind hits and that’s ggs

    Pokémon Legends Arceus is really just a sequel to Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Sky and is even better than Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Sky itself.
    Change my mind.

      I mean they are two completely different games in term of gameplay so it's hard for me to judge, but I've enjoy the experience between the two of them and have put plenty of time into the both of them. Would be crazy to somehow make it canon between the Mystery Dungeon and Mainline games

    • @candyneige6609
      @candyneige6609 2 года назад +1

      @@NewYorkMikes2 While the 2 games might still have completely different gameplays, they still have something in common, they're both part of the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series, in other words, they're both Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games, and as such, they have similar stories, similar items, similar bosses and even similar rescue mechanics, not to mention that they both have dungeons, a village you go through in-between dungeons and therefore acting as a hub, and jobs to receive various rewards, and in both games, as usual with all other Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games, you're a human from the human world who got turned into a Pokémon and sent to the Pokémon world which is a world only inhabited by Pokémon, and because you're a Pokémon, you can get attacked by other Pokémon.
      And yes, the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series is canonically linked with the Pokémon mainline series, after the events of the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series (so Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team Red and Blue and DX, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Time and Darkness and Sky, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Gates to Infinity, Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, and Pokémon Legends Arceus), the first humans showed up in the Pokémon world, not as turned into Pokémon, but as actual humans, and at first, humans and Pokémon actually lived in harmony, they peacefully coexisted together in settlements, they ate together at the same table, and they even went as far as to marry with each other, but overtime, humans started to become more and more greedy, and eventually, they became so greedy they wanted the settlements all for themselves, so they drove Pokémon out of settlements, forcing Pokémon to go back to the wild and ending the harmony between humans and Pokémon, and they also created new settlements in the wild, where there weren't any beforehand, in the wild, both factors caused Pokémon to be angry towards humans in return and force them to battle when they see one, eventually leading to the events of the Pokémon mainline series (so Pokémon Red and Blue and Yellow and FireRed and LeafGreen, Pokémon Gold and Silver and Crystal and HeartGold and SoulSilver, Pokémon Ruby and Saphire and Emerald and Omega Ruby and Alpha Saphire, Pokémon Diamond and Pearl and Platinum and Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, Pokémon Black and White and Black 2 and White 2, Pokémon X and Y, Pokémon Sun and Moon and Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, Pokémon Sword and Shield, and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet), and that's pretty interesting if you think about it.
