The Nike Metcon 9 versus Nike Metcon 8 has been a fun topic of discussion as the new Metcon 9 hits the market.
Should lifters go with the newer more expensive Nike Metcon 9 or will the Nike Mecon 8 (that is on sale) work fine? Personally, I like both shoes but for slightly different reasons and they each have their lists of pros and cons.
In my Nike Metcon 9 versus Nike Metcon 8 video, I'll try to help you determine which shoe is best for your needs.

For most lifters and athletes, the Nike Metcon 8 and Nike Metcon 9 should work really well if your goals revolve around lifting, CrossFit, and cross-training.
One thing that I think is important to understand with both the Metcon 8 and 9 is that they're cross-training shoes that definitely have a lifting bias.
That said, if you're wanting a shoe for primarily HIIT, short runs, and daily wear, then I would tread lightly with both of these models.

hello from Australia, just found your channel. excellent video. great work.
Thank you! Glad it helped
The production of this video is so cool to see.
!!! Trying to level up the content. Editors have been crushing the vids lately and it’s been nice to have folks who know this skill way better than myself. Appreciate that feedback!
The 8’s have been my favorite out of every model.
Still rocking my 7s, maybe I'll wait for 10s. Thanks for the vids Jake.
Thanks for checking it out!
Heck yeah, thanks for the review.
Hope this helps answer questions. Appreciate you checking out the content!
Hi Jake just found your channel. Thank you for explaining the difference between the two. Very informative. I just bought the metcon 8. Haven’t received them yet. I have a narrow foot and thought the metcon 9 were going to be big on the width. I hope I like them. Using them for lifting mostly and CrossFit training.
Awesome! Hope you like them. Keep me posted on their performance and how they work for ya!
Jake, would really like to see a comparison shootout between the Nano X3 and the Dropset 2. Cheers.
I can add that to the list! I have a Nano X3 vs Metcon 9 video in the works :)
really great review.
Thank you!
I have the Metcon9 shoes. These are nearly the perfect work-out shoes one can have.
Am i the only one that prefer these types of shoes in flashy colors? Black is too serious for my taste
Nah, I think a lot of folks feel similar! I’m just more low-key with my style preferences so I always go neutral colorways :)
My orange metcon 9s turned up yesterday and they are sick so glad I went for the colour over the norm
Same.
It s difficult to find a nice black 🖤 so I prefere definitely this black version
@ my favorite color references with Nike are : volt , Total Orange or bright crimson 😉
Jake, great review. I currently had owned the Metcon 2s, then got the 5s. Currently looking to upgrade and watching your review - and I know this is tough; what are your thoughts on the 5s versus the 8s. Is it worth the jump? Thank you for your time!
Awe man. If you love the 5s then I think you might be letdown by the 8s, tbh. The 7-9 are super different from the
Thank you for the honest feedback!!@@thatfitfriend
Nike took a step backwards here imo. Bummed to be waiting another year for the met on 10 and see it the make it right. As always impeccable reviews / comparison
Thank you, sir!
My metcon 7s got trashed from using them during a fire academy. What do you recommend for a traditional lifter who also does a lot of HIIT and performance based training. I do incorporate a bit of running at times as well. I’m open to trying different brands as well
RAD ONE, Nano X3, or TYR CXT-1 Trainer!
Great review, I’m not sure what are the best training/ gym shoes, my training includes dumbbells, barbells and machines.
What are the best option specially between these, adidas dropset 2, the reebok nano 3X Froning, and nano classic which one of these would you suggest? Which one do you like the most?
Nano X3 (non-Froning) and Dropset 2 are the two best widely-available training shoes right now.
@@pkd.81
I’m torn between the two, is the adidas better overall?
@@myrealnameis2783 There's no single comprehensive answer to that question. I'd probably buy whichever you can get a better deal on.
I'd go Dropset 2! Both are sick shoes, though. Dropset are super solid for lifting
Jake, to be honest I have found that the inside of my foot collapses inward in the Metcon 9, while doing snatches and jerks. I don’t think they are as stable as other shoes. A step backwards in my opinion.
That’s exactly what’s happened to me so I feel validated hearing you say that. It’s a weird medial midfoot construction in this model! Check out my individual review and first impressions, I talk about this heavily in them
I bought some eights because they were on sale.. They are ok, but I'm not a big fan of the heel as it makes the shoes feel clunky. I prefer my Metcon fives to be honest. Flat enough to lift, yet comfortable enough to perform short runs in.
Low key most everyone I talk to including me prefers the 6s and older models. These TPU heels are such a miss for most training contexts, so I feel ya.
I m looking for perfect shoes to combine heavy lifting like deadlift, squats and to walk on gym. Which model will be most complex? I also have wide foot. Please help and give some advice. Last time I ordered aidaspower 3 , very narrow foot. I don't know who they produce this shoes for. I had to return pair of shoes.
Hmm, I'd give the Metcon 9s a try!
My first Metcon was the 3, then i bought 4XD and 5 but i didn't like at all 5 and i still using my lovely 4XD red/camo, but it's almost dead. Wich one fit similar to 4XD? I'm tempted to chose 8AMP
7, 8, and 9 have nothing on the 4XD...NGL. I'd look into the Born Primitive Savage 1 or Adidas Dropset Trainer 2 if you want a 4ish type of feel!
How are your feet switching between "Barefoot" shoes and these others you review? I find my feet hurt when i switch back and forth.
Fine for the most part. I do notice narrow shoes a lot more now, but those times are pretty rare, tbh.
It’s been nice seeing normal shoes start to get progressively wider, too.
Metcon 7 are the best shoes I’ve ever worn they’re the best shoes ever!!! You can’t get it all in one you either going to have the nice stability to lift weights, hike, or just in the daily for anything really, if you wanna run get running shoes, nothing will be better than some Mizuno of ASICS
Didn't like the 8. It looks like I wouldn't like the 9 either. Great comparison video, though. Keep up the great work, saving me money! 😂
That's always the goal. Create content to help folks save on stuff they don't need, find the right stuff for their needs!
@thatfitfriend - I will say, it was about time you posted some video footage of you rope climbing in those monstrosities! 😆
@@capt1941 tbh, I forgot to upload these clips in my metcon 9 review folder so my editors didn’t even realize I had them then I forgot my cam the other times I climbed. That’s my bad 😅.
The travel and filming has been a little chaotic.
My Nike metcon 9's ripped from first couple of rope climbs :D
Thank god for the rope guard! Keen to see if this happens for others, too.
Yeah, I used 8's for hundreds of workouts and the outsole dured pretty good, while for these a single workout was enough@@thatfitfriend
What’s would be good as a gym shoe for squats and deadlifts
Adidas Dropset Trainer 2!
Would love to see a battle between this and adidas dropset!
Have that on the way! Nano X3 vs Metcon 9 drops tomorrow!
İ tried adidas drop set in leg day, I was surprised how it s comfortable when squatting. But not really comfortable like every wear
@ checks, they’re not gonna be your super plush trainer for all-day stuff imo!
Hey buddy
Im looking for a durable pair of gym shoes which i can also wear for part time and my College. I am going to the gym just for hypertrophy.
My budget is anything less than 90 cad.
I'd look into the Nike Metcon 8 on sale or cop a Reebok Nanoflex V2 (you could prob these for dirt cheap and they're sick!)
What shoe u recommend for long runs and lifting till 100kg ?? Pls help
Are you okay with looking at brands outside of Nike?
Sureee! In my opinion nike is not that comfortable :D
The extra volume in the 9 is fantastic, but that midfoot wrap is so aggressive and makes my feet roll in a ton and basically makes them useless for me which is a shame. I’ll keep the 8s and pray that they reduce that in the 10
I was super interested if others would notice that rolling in. Felt the exact same. Good upper fit, whack features
I have 8s and the heel can be irritating and i feel my feet would like a wider shoe.I can get 9s with a discount at 105 $ cause of my birthday so i think inshould buy them lol even though i wear the 8s for less than 7 months 🤣
Went from 6s to 8s...they do feel harder on the foot and i got sore in my calfs both times i wore them. Anyone else? Great review here. I was hesitating between 8 and 9s but i honest;y belive the 9s are very ugly so i went for the 8s in sale
7, 8, and 9 are all such a step backwards from the 6s. It's low-key sad.
It’s like every other year they switched between arrow and wide ?
Yeah and worse performance. Nike is missing the mark atm, imo
@@thatfitfriend and then you can’t buy older models because they out of stock so quickly
Which Crossfitshoes are better more for running?
RAD ONE are pretty solid so are the Inov-8 F-Lite G 300/F-Fly (if you want a more hybrid option)
Nano X3 vs Adidas drop set 2?
I'd go Dropset 2!
waited for 9 (still using 6) when i saw how ugly the shoe is i decided to buy 8 in sale.
8 is ugly too. 7 is the best.
LOL, beauty is in the eye of the beholder!
Seems nike started to make more wider forefoot in their shoes....last years i stopped buy them, as too narrow..
Hopefully this trend stays
Metcon 8 AMP what mean AMP?
Difference in upper material
@@thatfitfriend thank you my friend
The 8’s look better
Feel that
9s are too ugly I'll wait till they hit outlets for dirt cheap or wait for the 10s which we all know will be a big year
Nike metcon 7,8,9 lose a game with plastic hyperlift and quality 👎👎. 😕 and Jake is the best !
Appreciate you 🤝🤝
I think the 9s are just hideous.
Feels.
Bro you’re not a CROSSFITTER! how you dare which one is the best for CrossFit 😂
LMAO. I should probably not talk about lifting and running either since I'm not solely only those, too!
@@thatfitfriend let's make this straight, having 2 feet does not allow you to be a shoes reviewer!
