I just got back from a place called Bikaner, in the Rajasthan province of North Western India -- and I found myself at a temple where a man worships 25,000 rats. Not only does he (and all people in his community) live among these rats, but they actually believe that they are the reincarnation of their dead family members. Aunts, uncles, parents, grandparents and cousins - in the form of dirty rats!!

Nah, I'm from the southern part of country. I'd like to visit and walk and stuff but definitely not going to eat or consume any offerings from there.
Last year 2 rats traveled their way in an Amazon box into my house. I still get chills up my spine if I see a shadow in the corner of my eye. I don’t know how you did that Drew!

@@gunsal9891 it is ok to be called as Ratlover rather than called as Ms/Mr Animal eater. shoes has been removed in respect of principal deity, not for rats. Otherwise sharing eatable with them could be avoided, I do found uncomfortable. Those people are native ones and could be easy for them.

You may be surprised, I've had both cats and rats as pets at the same time, and them living together, growing together, they were always friendly and gentle with each other. But I wouldn't trust any random cat with my pet rat. I also had a friend that had a black labrador, and a white rat, and the rat used to ride on the dogs back, they played together too.

The fear of "Not Being" after death is so powerful for these people, that they brainwashed themselves into believing that if they worship these rats, that they too will be reborn as a rat after death, so they can come to this very temple to feast. Very interesting concept. Religion makes people do interesting things.

Usually dog and cat temples are kept tidy, this temple is not. While I agree every creature is equal that doesn’t mean their life is the same thing. Some animals are predators and some are prey, we humans are just at the top of the food chain and can control this. Also no offense but who was killed for thinking the earth was round? Galileo is the only notable case and he wasn’t killed he was put on house arrest for the rest of his life.
There should be a investigation in this area , to see how many humans have died from rat infested diseases and then they should do something about it as it’s just mad ..,and these people are insane

Just to be clear, I'm an indian and I had the same aversion as Drew while watching the video, if not more.
Its not really surprising that people don't get sick, because they're all probably just immune to it. Humans at the end of the day did once live in the jungle for a long long time.
Its just one of those old religious tales that has made it to present day and there's still a group of people who follow it. But this or the other weird cultural stuff does not represent vast majority of India or the indian people
