  • Rap Songs That Are PERFECT For Oldheads. Since older rap fans LOVE to complain about how modern rap is not the same as rap back then, and how rappers have now gotten lazy, I decided to make a video showing you songs about that VERY topic.

    0)
    good call on the last pick! i has completely forgetten that song!
    1)
    i think the “WHAT THEY DO (the WITH TEXT) version)” music video deserves mentioning🤣. if you havent seen the version of the roots’ video with the subtitles, IT is the one to watch. it’s a brilliant parody of P Diddy’s vision for hip hop.
    by 1996, many of my faves in their 20s were “oldheads,” based on their conservative views about rap music (Gang Starr, De La Soul, Jeru tha Damaja). i remember people being passionate about there being a difference between rap & hiphop. some still are 🤦🏾‍♀️ smh.
    one of the first songs in this vein that i liked was “i used to love her” by common (1994).
    resentment, anger, and bitterness can inspire great art. but usually, by the time the appropriate creative usage for the anger is found, it has likely already poisoned its carrier-the anger’s first casualty.
    since nothing can stop time from marching on, when we allow (the music of) our pasts to define us, it’s normal to feel rejected and abandoned. oldheads want to focus on what’s “wrong” with the new, because people having less people honoring what was good about the old threatens to invalidate what it means to “be,” on an existential level.

    Imo while Carter 3 IS overrated I think Carter 4 and 5 are WAYYYYYYY worst.. The bigger point imo is while 3 and beyond are suspect Carter TWO has NO SKIPS… And yeah I have went back through Wayne as a adult I agree a lot of stuff was trash cause it was so random but he said it confidently lol.. Carter 2 was the last time he actually TRIED and you can tell tbh..

    • @AmiriHipHop
      @AmiriHipHop  7 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah i even massively disagree with that. Carter 5 is a very overhated album. It has Wayne's more personal and heartfelt songs on it.
      And Carter 2 is LOADED with skips as well. While it does have some of Wayne's HARDEST tracks like Get Over, Tha Mobb, Fly In - Carter 2 - Fly Out, Hustler Muzik, Receipt and Best Rapper Alive, there are still several songs on that project that are just "cool" and that's it.
      I seriously don't see how you can listen to songs like Weezy Baby, Oh No, Lock & Load, I'm A Dboy, and Mo Fire and say those are all great songs. Tracks like those 5 for sure bring down Carter 2 in my opinion.

    • @ktdagoat1289
      @ktdagoat1289 7 месяцев назад +2

      @@AmiriHipHop They blend in to the "ascetic" imo.. It's like good kid madd city.. Not all songs are hits nor fire. However for the direction of THAT album it was a perfect fit.. It's how I feel about the Carter 2.. Afterwards.. 3 and forward just were too randomly thrown together imo..

    • @AmiriHipHop
      @AmiriHipHop  7 месяцев назад +2

      @@ktdagoat1289 Aesthetic is the word you were looking for lol. But yes I totally see what you mean homie. Those songs fit the overall vibe of Wayne being a young street dude/hustla from New Orleans. A man that was finally making his own strides in his career instead of being attached to Cash Money all the time, he was releasing his own hits and carving his own lane. I TOTALLY get that.
      My problem is that they "blend in" to point where they just become generic and forgettable. Another song that I didn't list earlier but I honestly think it's just a mid track is "Hit Em Up".
      That entire song is just about dealing with snitches in the hood and letting people know that in the streets, if you run your mouth too much you gone get dealt with.
      And that's my problem. Most of Carter 2 is gun bars and talking about violence in the hood such so it becomes very repetitive.
      Hit Em Up is literally just an "ight" song. It's not "fire", "great", "fantastic" none of that. It's just "cool". That's how half the songs on C2 are to me. Just "cool" street bars.

    As a old head 44, We don't just listen to "These new niggas fucking the game up!" songs lol. But it's hilarious seeing young folks perspective. That said, the Mid 2000's was TERRIBLE. Mainstream and Underground. It wasn't like 2024, where you can just go find the hip hop you love EASILY because of the internet so you don't have to bitch and moan about it as bad. But I get it, Our generation doth protest too much and did a lot of the same shit. My only critique, you trying to make GTA IV and V "Old head" shit lmao! I played those True Crime games. LA was TRASH, NYC was a classic and had the real NYC street by street (was funny. going past friends neighborhoods). Sleeping Dogs is trash. And For us my age, Lil Wayne was polarizing. Some loved him, others like me thought he could flow, but he wasn't rapping about nothing for real, just putting words together real slick. So I agree with your LIl Wayne Take 100%
