Illmatic is perfect. Every single track is an icon. It encapsulates a moment in time from which an entire genre developed. You can pretty much remove everything that came before it, and hip hop would still have the necessary means to develop into what it is today.

(Im From Germany so i dont Unserstand all the Lyrics Like you in the USA, so a Rapsong has to sound good for me, cause its difficult for me Unserstanding all the Lyrics and meanings.)
Love these lists. I’m shocked at Anthony’s #1. I like 2001 but I do feel like they are very skippable tracks on the 2nd part of that album. But when it hits it’s timeless music
The first half of 2001 is a masterpiece, the second part sucks, the album should've ended with The Next Episode and had Let's Get High as a bonus, the rest of the album fucking sucks
@@underkanal3656 I was just trying to be nice to Dre but yeah it really is a fall off 😂😂 i liked the Halloween sample on murder ink but the rest can go honestly

I think ive underrated rza's production in the past, liquid swords' sound is nasty. But what makes it great for me is gza's lyricism, some of the hardest verses ive ever heard
@@keenobaerry3195 I can understand why 36 chambers is on both their top 10’s, as for the most part it is the most well know and iconic wutang album , however I do agree that Liquid Swords is way more polished compared to 36 chambers
like i may just be some white guy from a different country however i would say TPAB for the simple reason that it made me try to understand and appreciate rap music on a deeper level. growing up with families like mine completely denouncing the genre then stumbling across this masterpiece one day that made me appreciate not only the songs but also the culture and the backgrounds of these individuals was mindblowing. furthermore i dont know if anyone has or will pack this much density of concepts into one album ever.
I feel like this is a pretty good take. Alot of these all time lists are from americans. And ofc theyre opinions have atleast the same value as me a foreigner holds. But i feel like alot of these people dont understand how Kendrick made this kinda darker Hip-Hop tracks more accessable over seas. For quite some times now is kendrick rated high in Europe and africa for example. His lyrics are not just how he sho*ts people but he tells the whole story behind it completed with not only trap beats but with Blues, Jazz and Funk wich even some parents here started to listen to after the Compton music kinda got the "its devils music" stamp on after NWA.

Haven’t seen this album brought up in the comments at all but Atrocity Exhibition is definitely in my top ten. Such an Unconventional and haunting album with chaotic and Experimental Production and excellent writing that gives off one of the most Harrowing pieces of media I’ve ever consumed. It’s seriously a terrifying masterpiece.
Its brilliant but id put it like top 30 maybe top 20. There has been better experimental production but its a great gateway album for younger hiphop fans to alt/experimental hiphop.

NFR COMING WITH ANOTHER GREAT LIST. W for Lu putting 2 Kendrick albums I respect it. One thing that stood out to me was Lu saying Kendrick may not be a top 10 rapper because "DAMN. and MMATBS aren't on the same level" but I feel like thats not 100% fair. Rappers like Nas have one top 10 album and he hasn't had the batting average Kendrick has had. Kdot has 0 albums that aren't at least amazing, even according to your guys' reviews. People tend to be unfairly critical of him because he likely will never touch those back to back albums. Also, when we look at his 2 recent albums, his rapping is still incredibly strong and the strong suit of those albums - he clearly has longevity. So he's had 2 of the highest highs of any rapper, 3 amazing albums to back them up, and unreal concepts and unique songs that no one else had tapped into. Overall I think its only fair to put him top 10 and I genuinely think you can make a good argument for top 5. Edit: Btw im not saying hes better than Nas but just a point to make about Kendrick's dominance and one of his skills that are unmatched - album/song writing.

@Vernon Johnson listen to some MF DOOM, Andre 3k, Lupe fiasco, Black Thought and J Cole. All better lyricists by a margin and more versatile. Rakim is one dimensional as fuck. He’s flow is choppy, he’s repetitive, there’s overused patterns if you listen to the beat choices on paid in full unlike a graduation or gkmc

To pimp a butterfly without a doubt. Track by track it is the most expansive hip hop album of time. So many genres, lyrically and topically it is such a raw yet beautiful experience. If I had to present humanity's greatest contribution to the world to some martians it would be TPAB.

My two main biases for why an album could be my personal favorite but not one of the best is replayability and nostalgia. Certain albums take me back to a favorite memory or period of my life.
@@jonas6780 no it doesn’t lmao you can like a certain price of music more than another yet still understand that another price of music is better than the one you specifically enjoy. IMO I enjoy stillmatic more than illmatic because of the sound/beats and one of the greatest comeback albums of all time. However I can objectively say illmatic is better in almost all categories.

this has got to be one of the worst top 10 oat ever do you only listen to 5 artist??? a lot of this is way to recently biased, kendrick is good but having “damn” on a top 10 rap albums list is fucking outrageous, hop off j coles meat hes a good rapper but having him even on the list is wild, most of fhd is skips, though there are bangers, as an album as a whole it’s not even top 10 of the 2010’s decade, the only 3 that make somewhat sense are MBDTF, TPAB, and maybe the blueprint.
also jesus fuck you don’t have any variety, all these artist have the same type style, branch out and your list will change and you will be embarrassed by this list. illmatic doesn’t have to be your favorite but it has to be a top 10 rap album, it literally created half the shit u listen too

Here's the list. Disclaimer: After #3, the order doesn't matter anymore. 1. Supreme Clientele - Ghost's magnum opus. Flawless front to back. 2. Muddy Waters - Another flawless record to me excluding skits. 3. Hell On Earth - Havoc's production + P's rapping on this record = flawless 4. Monkey Barz - Somewhat out of place amongst these legendary albums but I like this record a lot. 5. Art of War --> Yes, E. 1999 Eternal is Bone's most influential album but for it's length, Art of War is a press and play record for me. 6. The Blueprint - Jay's best album IMO. From a rapping and production standpoint, it's flawless 7. Get Rich or Die Tryin' - It's 50 8. All Eyez on Me - Pac did the impossible. A double disc album with hits left and right. Although, What'z Ya Phone # is the only miss to me on this monumental album Bonus: the 7 Day Theory record might overtake this record at some point. 9. Operation: DOOMsday - It's a classic debut from a legendary and influential artist that's no longer with us sadly. 10. Marshall Mathers LP --> the content hasn't aged well. That's a given but the album is damn near flawless if certain songs and skits weren't present.
@@brenterickson2771 Monkey Barz wasn't on there when I started. Jesus Price was. Between Monkey Barz and JPS. You can't go wrong. It's preference after all. I'll jump to Eminem. For me, the most enjoyable project Em's ever released --> the Slim Shady EP but it doesn't make the list. It's an EP, not an album. If we're going off enjoyment and albums only, the most enjoyable album Em's ever released --> Relapse MF DOOM Vaudeville Villian deserves a mentoin. It's DOOM's most convential album. I enjoy a lot.

Illmatic is perfect. Every single track is an icon. It encapsulates a moment in time from which an entire genre developed. You can pretty much remove everything that came before it, and hip hop would still have the necessary means to develop into what it is today.

like i may just be some white guy from a different country however i would say TPAB for the simple reason that it made me try to understand and appreciate rap music on a deeper level. growing up with families like mine completely denouncing the genre then stumbling across this masterpiece one day that made me appreciate not only the songs but also the culture and the backgrounds of these individuals was mindblowing. furthermore i dont know if anyone has or will pack this much density of concepts into one album ever.

@Vernon Johnson Hell nah

TPAB is awsome but you are being pretentious.
Best hip hop album sure but HUMANITYS GREATEST CONTRIBUTION TO THE WORLD??
Phenomenal album for sure, but humanities best contribution?
I love TPAB but I think a lot of people sleep on DAMN

3. good kid, m.A.A.d city
4. The Marshall Mathers LP
5. To Pimp a Butterfly
6. KOD
7. I Decided
8. 2001
9. Get Rich or Die Tryin'
10. Take Care
To me, there is a subtle difference between best and favorite. My two main biases for why an album could be my personal favorite but not one of the best is replayability and nostalgia. Certain albums take me back to a favorite memory or period of my life.
favorite=best
@@jonas6780 it absolutely does not. My favourite rap album is Under Pressure by Logic because of the timing and a lot of personal reasons other people wouldn't understand. Do I think it's the best rap album of all time? Absolutely fucking not looool

2. MBTDF - Ye
1. 2014 forest hills Dr. - J. Cole
this is literally my weekly rotation lol
This list right here 🔥🔥🔥
this has got to be one of the worst top 10 oat ever do you only listen to 5 artist??? a lot of this is way to recently biased, kendrick is good but having “damn” on a top 10 rap albums list is fucking outrageous, hop off j coles meat hes a good rapper but having him even on the list is wild, most of fhd is skips, though there are bangers, as an album as a whole it’s not even top 10 of the 2010’s decade, the only 3 that make somewhat sense are MBDTF, TPAB, and maybe the blueprint.
also jesus fuck you don’t have any variety, all these artist have the same type style, branch out and your list will change and you will be embarrassed by this list. illmatic doesn’t have to be your favorite but it has to be a top 10 rap album, it literally created half the shit u listen too
@@finnleg11259 You just hating. J. Cole got incredible albums and DAMN is a masterpiece. 2014 FHD is clearly skipless not a single bad song. Plus, you’re saying GKMC and GRODT don’t make sense on the list and a “Maybe” for The Blueprint is outrageous. Get your ass to discovering good music and stop hating!!
1. 2001 by Dre: This album got me into rap.
2. Graduation by Kanye: Controversial, but my most played album.
3. Illmatic by Nas: Amazing album.
4. Tpab by Kendrick: Legendary album.
5. Ready to die by biggie: This album has so many bangers.
6: Get rich or die tryin by 50 cent: So many iconic songs.
7: Me against the world by Pac: Tupac is my goat and this is his best album.
8. Marshall Mathers LP: This is Eminem’s best album.
9. MBDTF by Kanye: One of his most influential albums.
10: The infamous by Mobb Deep: Shook ones pt 2 might be my favorite song of all time.

7. The Infamous - Prodigy is one of the purest rapping voices i ever heard, amazing beats too
6. 36 chambers - fell in love with songs like CREAM, 7th chamber and protect ya neck from a young age, best group album of all time
5. pinata - MAYBE too high but i believe freddie is the best product of the 2010s besides kendrick, unmatchable rapping ability with impeccable production

3. Hell On Earth - Havoc's production + P's rapping on this record = flawless
4. Monkey Barz - Somewhat out of place amongst these legendary albums but I like this record a lot.
5. Art of War --> Yes, E. 1999 Eternal is Bone's most influential album but for it's length, Art of War is a press and play record for me.

If we're going off enjoyment and albums only, the most enjoyable album Em's ever released --> Relapse
MF DOOM
Vaudeville Villian deserves a mentoin.
It's DOOM's most convential album.
I enjoy a lot.
