This was awesome. I've ran a half marathon , now going for a full. I run 4-5 times a week as is. Started a year and a half ago and lost 45lbs within six months. Took a 2 month break only running 5 times a month due to relocating to a new home and this record high extreme heat this summer. I live in South Florida . 37 y/o male. Im considering a 100 miler hopefully for 2024. Loved your video but you scared me at the end with the crutches ( asking myself is this even healthy ). But one things for sure im crazy enough to try. Thanks for the video , hope all is well. #miami #floridakeys
Hey! I'm glad you found this video and fully believe you can get to the 100! If it helps, I used to crutches because we had them - probably could've been fine without. Within a few days I was much better. Also - a lot of 100s are on trail, not pavement, and I was mostly on pavement for mine.
Been watching your videos for a while now, Holly, but came back to this one because I'm running my first 100 miler in 8 months. And appreciate this video. And appreciate you. Keep up the great work!
That's so absolutely amazing what you accomplished! Seeing you at the marathon mark and even at 50 miles smiling - just incredible! Really cool to see your friends and family supporting you through it all. Wow, just wow!
I really appreciate you taking the time to walk us through your gear/ set up. That definitely helps! Also. I hope you had some of the most amazing Pierogies after what I’m assuming was the most amazing nap!!
I stumbled on you first when I was looking for pre run stretches when you were at the run experience (I went back to your stretches all the time). This video was randomly recommended today to be by the youtube algorithm gods and im blown away by your awesome effort. congratulations on a super rad achievement. cheers from South Africa!
This was such a nice comment to read! I’m so glad you like my videos on TRE and that you’ve now found my personal channel as well. Keep up the good work over there!
What an amazing support system!! I'm loving the videos and showing the both highs and lows! I literally cried at the 100 miler for ya! Huge motivation, keep up the awesome , motivational work!!
@@gofarsogood That it was your own event and not an official race (you could have quit anytime), makes this a truly remarkable demonstration of your mental toughness.
I've never done an ultra (a couple of marathons about a decade ago), but after watching you--and this video specifically--I'm going to commit to the 55 miler in my neighborhood at BAtoNa next fall (and the 100M there the following year). THANK you for the advice, and hard-earned wisdom, you are quite inspiring, Coach Holly! You ROCK!!
I love the support! So heartwarming : ) also totally agree with you on how much of a difference a pacer can make (especially if you're struggling). Love your content! Incredible work!!! and keep it up!
Wow you made that look EASY! Congratulations 🥳 shoutout to your family for the support. I’ve only been running for a year I can’t wait to get to this level 🙌🏾
Aw I appreciate that! It was actually such a fun day and I couldn't have gotten more lucky having my family as my support system - both in life and for the race. Keep up the running!
Stoked to see you have your own channel now. I couldn't hit subscribe fast enough lol. You're amazeballs!! Your workouts have built me into a solid runner 🏃♂️👌💪. Thank you sooooo much!!
(@9.38) "This is crazy. This is the farthest I've ever run - 50.20". Yep! Crazy for sure. I recall doing a fifty fiver back in August last year - first one ever. There's NO WAY I'd have considered upping my game straight to a hundred right after though. Bonkers!
Waow. I can't believe I missed this one. Just seen it. You Go girl. Litterally my next goal. Thank u so much again for the insight n content, def Apreciate it and Apreciate you so much always Holly. ❤ de France madame. Respect.
Strong girl! I will try my first marathon this week, and after while I want to run 50k. p.s. What I.m sure you can not see smile on my face after i cross the line:) You are realy strong and positive person.......
Saw you dirst at the Run Experience... So glad you decided to do your own channel. :) Thanks for sharing your 100 miler bts. I think I have a love-hate relationship with running, seeing your content is just so helpful for me. Looking forward to more. ps.We take the same GU flavors hahaha
Aw I am so glad you're liking The Run Experience and my new channel! Glad to help you feel more inspired to run. The 100 was crazy! Haha love that we have the same gu's :)
Great job! I have 2 59 milers last October and November 2020, and have my first 100 miler this coming September 11, thanks for your breakdown! Congrats! How long did you train for this 100 miler?
Thank you! And that’s awesome about yours. I like to think I’m always “training” but I upped my mileage on long run days more in the 4-5 months leading up.
Haha, I am pretty proud of doing my 100 miler (unassisted)...except, I did mine on a road bike. I was heavily under-nutritioned and was cramping really bad the last 10-15 miles. Apparently peanut butter and jelly sandwiches each 25 miles wasn’t the ideal nutrition plan. What can I say, I decided to do it on a Thursday and did it in a little over 8 hrs on Saturday. Can’t imagine doing it running. So impressive!
Even famous fat adapted ultra runners like Zach Bitter cycle some carbs into super long efforts. I would also say that I’m not sure why Holly would trade her fitness and strength for your view of leanness. Any dramatic diet change would probably be more likely to compromise her strength and endurance.
How was that running for that long in cold weather? I'm good running in cold weather for a short period of time but if it goes more than 12 hours I lose control of my temperature regulation and can get cold fast. Was that an issue for you?
What was your longest long runs when training? I’m training for a 100 mile race and the program has been running 5 30 one day then 20 the next. Is that enough?
Yeah definitely! That’s perfect doing back to back 30 and 20 days. Once you’ve got a good system to last through those, you don’t need to keep pushing it for a bunch of reps. It’ll beat you up. You’ll be ready!!
So you just up and ran your own 100 mile race for the heck of it? Lol…that’s amazing - you’re a rock star.
Haha thank you! It was a wild ride.
