This week on TestDrive Showdown we're looking at the all-new 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe XRT, but we're wondering if the design team in South Korea just used a Xerox machine to copy the looks and elements from the 2024 Land Rover Defender 110 SE. There are some striking similarities between these two vehicles, including the side profiles where the doors are almost identical. Nile and Victor go over these two vehicles to discuss how similar they really are.
Priced at about $49,000 CAD, you can buy almost 2.6 Hyundai Santa Fes for the price of the $132,000 CAD Land Rover Defender we're testing. We understand that likely no one on Earth is cross-shopping these two SUVs, but we wanted to have some fun by seeing what similarities we found between these two.

Believe me or not , as quality now days , Hyundai is better that landrover
At least in Hyundai interior parts not goes off like landrover cars , and put in consideration the price difference

When you buy a Hyundai you get a car.
When you buy a LandRover you get a lifestyle workshop subscription.

That's where the magic of a 4 year lease comes in for that 4 year warranty 😉

This was great as I am that person looking at the Santa Fe vs. Defender vs. Grenadier. When I first saw the Santa Fe from the side, I had to do a double take as it looked like a 130 at first. I know the wife will love the Santa Fe, but I am more in line with the Grenadier living in the mountains. There are 10 miles of gravel/dirt/snow between our home and the nearest asphalt.

We'd really love the chance to drive the Grenadier, we had the chance to see one in person at the Toronto Auto Show and have spotted a couple on the road.

You have to buy two to run a Land Rover.
One is because it is always broken and in the repair shop
Land Rover's reliability is at a terrible level.
This car is just like food made in the UK.

Luckily we haven't had any issues with any of the Defender models we've driven, but we also acknowledge that Land Rover isn't known for reliability.

Glad you liked it! We wanted to have some fun and not take a Showdown as serious. We still can't get over how many design elements seem to have been copied and tweaked on the Santa Fe.

I saw the new Santa Fe and it was the first thought that came to my mind. That it looks like a knockoff of the Landrover Defender. Hence, why I looked it up and ended up on this channel. No, one said they were identical. But, they look like cousins or siblings. I am looking for a new SUV and had both on my list. Removed them both as don’t like the in person look of the Santa Fe. The Defender is really attractive with the black and white but everything I see is the reliability problems. So, afraid to get one.

Fair enough! Glad to see we aren't the only ones who see some similarities between these two.

Trivia: The Indian company, Tata Motors has owned Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) since 2008, when it purchased the British brands from Ford. In 2013, Jaguar Cars and Land Rover were fully integrated into JLR Limited. While it still has mechanical issues and very high maintenance costs, Tata made great improvements from the Ford days.
For the money and off-road capabilities, the 2024 Land Cruiser (around US $60K) will blow the roof racks off of both these vehicles.

I'd say that all the brands formerly under the Premiere Auto Group at Ford are doing better now than they were as a Ford subsidiary.

A beautiful comparison, and thankful for your effort, I think Hyundai is more reliable and family-friendly with the privilege and the lowest price with the most specifications.❤

Hyundai certainly offers a compelling price point advantage. We're still not entirely sold on the looks, but going with the hybrid engine gives you some incredible fuel efficiency.

they don't even look that similar. hood bulges are evident? if you put a spare tire on the hyundai it would look the same? unconvincing.

I am so confused, what did I just watch? They are totally different. I feel like the whole video is just two dudes trying to gaslight me into believe two absolutely different vehicles look the same lol

I’m not sure why you are confused! I have watched a lot of Santa Fe review videos and they all say the same thing. The Santa Fe is a defender knock off. I see it and so do most other people. These guys took the time to look at both of these vehicles side by side. Great job guys! 👏

    • @tommyis13

I agree with the OP, I think they are totally different, couple of elements that look similar, but so have alot of other vehicles. I love the look of the Santa Fe and how it drives.
Who's most other people? Some of the reviewers on here, it's all subjective. I appreciate these guys putting in the time and effort fir this video, but we don't all have to agree with them.

I think most just see the Santa Fe and think that looks familiar. Ford Flex, Defender?? But is anyone actually going to buy a Santa Fe to make a passerby think it’s a Range Rover? Is that…oh it’s a Hyundai! Enough of the comparisons with these two vehicles. It’s the same nonsense comparisons with a GV80 and a Bentley. That grill looks like a Bentley, maybe but it’s not😂

Aside from some channel that seems to be affiliated with a dealership, we're the only Channel on RUclips that physically had both of these vehicles together to compare.
