  • Practice this 5-4-3-2-1 grounding exercise to calm your anxiety. I received a question recently asking if I had a 5 senses grounding exercise, and while I do often teach this to my individual counseling clients, I realized I don’t actually have a guided version of this practice. So thank you for the question! I always appreciate getting feedback like this so I can do my best to tailor practices and educational videos to meet your current needs.
This 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding exercise is a great option to step out of your mind and into your surroundings. Checking in with each of your senses gives your mind something else to focus on. This interrupts your automatic thoughts and changes the channel in your brain. To be clear, this is not a practice of avoidance, but is instead one of tuning in and refocusing your attention so your mind and body can find safety.
