That tech is AMAZING!!! I would love, love, LOVE to have one; it will up my game no doubt. The problem is that I am POOR. This is not an exaggeration, the late great Ralphie May once said, "If you eat your breakfast cereal out of a Cool-Whip container that is stained red because it had spaghetti or chili in it, you're poor!". I will have to wait for this awesome product to make it's way to a gear rental company before I get my hands on one.
Thanks for the shout out. This turned out even better than I would've thought. So much detail and information in such a short time. Let me know if you need help on the next one!
Using ours now in a commercial studio and LOVING the AXIBO so far. Great entry opportunity for Virtual production, IMO. Thanks again, Josh, for exposing me to this disruptive tech. We too, had to awkwardly haul a giant TV back to our facility to to emulate your setup, lol. You're the best.
Absolutely love the idea of using automation in place of a plethora of tracking tech. There are so many hurdles that need to be simplified to make this accessible to non wealthy creators. This would help a lot.
Welcome to the virtual production party, better late then never! We are using green screen with UE4 and Aximmetry because it’s ultimately more flexible if we need to adjust anything in post production. It’s also totally possible to use green screen with glass. The key is uniform lighting. It looks like the team behind this slider are trying to make the UE side of things more accessible for the every day film maker so that’s pretty innovative right there. Curious to see where things go next!
Been developing in Unreal and other game engines for ~15 years for various hobby projects. As cool as this tech is for video production, I think there are going to be some incredible concert acts coming out in the next few years. Some artists already have been using spatially mapped projections for visuals but integration with Unreal is going to allow for some mind blowing real time interactive content in physical space. For example, foggers and synced projectors can create interesting holographic effects. Play a scene in virtual space over that kind of setup and I think you can start to get an idea of what I'm thinking will make for some amazing concert experiences. Then I consider what might happen when tracking of the physical space is looped into some logic that determines how to alter scene activity. There are opportunities for very cool things to be made as experiences.
I am watching this video from small town in India and so surprised to see how technology changing the world of filmmaking. When I saw this video it feels like I know nothing about filmmaking. Thankyou so much for inspiring us ,you are a great storyteller :)
All I can say is wow! Thank you for this. I've been working my butt off to build a studio out of my garage the past few years and this is where I am headed. Been studying and upgrading hardware, the building is built now so it's so close. Something to do over the cold Edmonton winter eh💪🙏
The tech works great, the only issue was the pixels were present on the TV but that is the virtual background not the slider's fault. I would say for the Prosumer only using QLED TV's to achieve shots like this would be best until the Technology for larger scale options becomes available.
but even if you used the best screen, I feel like it would be 100% noticeable as a screen. The thing he's done in every shot is have the background out of focus and I think that's the only time you can use this tech.
You are correct! There are many cameras that support genlock. However, without 12g HD-SDI you usually have to have a second line just for that purpose. As far as I’m aware this is more of an unreal Engine limitation than a overall camera one.
Pretty fascinating, I didn't have alot of interest in this at the start but by the end you pretty much sold me on the potential of how useful this could be.. excited to see the madness you come up with using this Josh
Depth of field always looks trash with video backgrounds though, I can tell 90% of the time when it's used. The most distant stuff doesn't get progressively blurrier unless it's all rendered with this but people don't usually seem to bother
As someone else mentioned, the TV thing doesn't really work unless you have properly out-of-focus bokeh rendered in UE for ALL the objects in the scene, and the screen that you're using is also the correct distance away from your product. Also, I wonder if this sort of scenario would work better with the new QD-OLED technology that's coming out this year, since you wouldn't get blooming around bright spots in your scene or weird IPS glow in dark areas.
Ah okay. There was something about it that wasn't convincing, I wasn't sure what. Was also thinking if you have a cubemap-like setup with a couple more (smaller) screens around the product, the lighting may better match the world lighting that Disney is able to achieve.
You had me at locking framerates, there is a reason that I think of you anytime I start brainstorming how to capture epic scenes for the blockbuster that reveals itself to me every day I drive around this city. This truely is increadible tech, but honestly it's the fact the you can see this way and understand what is nessisary from a purely technical standpoint to simply capture what is needed to stich it all together that impresses me and endears me to your process.
Very very cool! The motion adds a lot. I did the most basic concept of this with a small LCD and photos for a mock product photoset, but having a virtual set for talking to the camera footage would be awesome.
This shiz is just incredible! We are quickly approaching the ability for non-studio filmmakers to be able to compete with the big dogs. I'm not in the industry, so I'll prob never use it unless and until something similar ends up in FCP, but I'm so impressed by how quickly the tech is evolving. Thanks for another great video!
Ok, I understand. Instead of using rotoscoping to add the background in after, you plot the camera path in unreal, render the scene, play the scene in the background and play the camera movement against that background. That is what gives you the correct lighting and parallax effects. Wouldn't a gimbal and a slider do the same thing?
Corridor have been working with a different type of camera tracking system. Although I’m sure they would not mind testing this kind of system out. I’ll have to reach out, I used to work with them back in the day.
This is awesome. 2 questions: 1. the video feed from the TV seems a little stuttery to me. Is that a bug? 2. If you're pre-baking the video, how does Unreal know the exact location of the screen and the Axios? Seems like there could be slight calibration errors
The stutters may have been from when rendering it in real time with my laggy computer. I used footage from early testing days (months ago) before they figured the baked in file workflow. The other thing is the first iteration slider they sent me had a power issue, and the stutters may have been from that slider, not the tv. The latest one has that all solved.
@@MAKEARTNOWCHANNEL Thanks for responding! How does it know where your screen is relative to the slider? Are you just manually putting that into Unreal? So it's possible that there's some misalignment? Does it use that camera built into the slider to calculate some kind of homography matrix and do the alignment?
I noticed the same thing, glad to hear it has been cleaned up. Would love to see a full stress test video to understand its capabilities and limitation.
This gave me an idea. I do have an ordinary power slider, i can power it up, add some tracking marks and make note of the speed, track the camera motion in blender, render out the background loop (now with the correct parallax) put the video on an ultra short trow projector, time it up with the slider as best i can, and boom! Loads of render time saved as opposed to doing that shot in green screen :)
I’ve seen all there is to see about Mandalorian technology. The main key is speed, and flexibility’s as reflections from green screens is a pain in the a** to edit away.
you should have for sure shot a green screen though and compare/contrasted it... its a neat idea but from what i ve seen here its not yet convincing imo , its probably lack of bigger screen or surrounding screen to create enough wrap around lighting to appear real to the eye or simple LED/OLED whatever screen tech quality
Really well put together video. Curious about ways to make the TV part a little more convincing. Someone mentioned ways to add wrap around lighting, but the depth of field issue might be hard to fix. Cool that this is becoming possible without a Disney budget though.
now if they could harness the tracking power into a puck that could be mounted on any camera, and then transfer the gyro motion into unreal that would be awesome.
I have done tests with the Epson laser 10k and 12k with short-throat lenses. on 12’ x 16’ screens. And that worked all right. However they’re quite expensive. And if you’re going for some thing that doesn’t have enough lumens then you need resolution so you can get closer without image bleed. Unfortunately most consumer projectors are not bright enough with enough contrast ratio to allow for images to look color accurate. However, even projectors are getting cheaper
@@MAKEARTNOWCHANNEL Are they that much?! Ok well then sweet talk a projector company into being a sponsor haha. Might not be as good on terms of contrast as the TV but for people on smaller budgets the lack of contrast might be good enough? But yeah... Didn't really think of that.
@@DataMakesItWork looks like you've had a good go then. Maybe it would be good enough for smaller projects? I know it's still more than a TV but if you could get most of a person's body in the frame with it then it would be good enough.
That was badass! Do they have the slider without the virtual feature maybe for less? How much is it? I'm thinking about returning this edelkrone I just got, I'm just not feeling it. Still skipping out the market
Everyone's talking about how cool this tech is, and I'm here thinking "Did Josh seriously edit the camera footage of himself video calling to match it to the laggy pixelated footage of the guys he was talking to?" ...that's next level.
Slider looks great, but I've gotta be honest, I didn't find the test shots very convincing. It's probably because the lighting doesn't match exactly since the display both isn't bright enough, and it's only casting light behind the subject. You'd probably get a much better effect with another display in front or to both sides of the subject.
I'm thinking of how I maight be able to use this to help produce a "period piece". .... I want to be able to give the feel of 1970's Vegas. ... time to get to work.

Josh, fantastic video production, as usual, however, I’m going to need Gerald’s review on this. Btw, you’re all out of denim shirts on the site! Did all the Canadian fans clear you out?!
Love this for sure. Question. Is this possible if you could use a 4k laser projector on a projector screen. I saw a video about projectors screens that give almost the same image quality as a TV Screen but in this case the projector is much large.
a projector might work, likely require some roto and masking to clean up. The big issue I see from a projector is that they bounce light differently than a screen. The best possible use for something like this would be macro work with a curved screen and some bounce from the front.
Wowsers! Does this partner up well with the Epic W 8K? So down to test this. What about projectors? and if yes on the projector, what would be a recommended unit?
So I got excited by this video as it looks like lots of people have and ordered one of the 50 kits. Has anyone here actually received theirs? Over the last 2 weeks I’ve gotten two different tracking codes and after about 24 hours the shipments gets cancelled. I contacted Axibo and I just get this vague response about our shipping system has issues.. I mean it’s being sent by FedEx so I don’t really understand.
Hey Daring, Im in contact with Axibo and have sent them this message. I know they are a small company of like 4-5 guys, and they are hustling to get each order shipped out. So far about 60-80% of the orders have shipped, but each one needs to be assembled, tested and packaged by hand...... But our teammates at Marbl are assisting with the Fedex Shipping, so we have a bit of intel with them. Not sure about the vague response, i'll probe further for better answer from them. Sit tight, i got chu!
Just got word from Axibo 100% orders have been shipped, but some are being held up in customs. Which makes sense, we ran into this with Marbl products especially given the cost of goods and shipping internationally these days is a headache. Please email Axibo again with your order number and they will look into your issue again, and i've pressed them to give you amore specific answer on shipping and estimated date it will be cleared thru customs. hope this helps XO
@@microfx It is that kind of TV graphics which looks like it has been captured in camera. It looks like it is part of the football field, for example: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1st_%26_Ten_(graphics_system) In practice it means graphics feed is being modified in real time based on camera position and its pan tilt zoom data. This device does the heavy lifting of providing position and pan tilt data to unreal engine, and binds the data to virtual camera in 3D space. This means you can do moving shot with TV graphics sticking to the point in the scene with proper paralax etc. Of course it can't do all what custom systems like 1st & Ten can (drawing under people, correct for active zooming) but in this price range it is game changing product for live production.
WOW Dude great video; Yes things are starting to advance at a rapid rate and what a great time for it to do so...I also remember weird Science, Remembering Chad...LOL....
I've never owned a rhino, so I can't speak on that, and I bought an Edelkrone in 2017 and returned it because it was overly complicated. So I guess, I can't really compare Edelkrone either because I could never get the thing to work! 😂
But yes, this thing is very well built. For a slider it's the shit. Feels nice, motors are fast, they are way over built. Very powerful. And the tracking function works instantly, was easier than I thought it would. Very similar to the tracking on the RS2 or RS3. If you're looking for a slider, you will get a ton of mileage from these guys, they are all hands on deck, and they have optimized their first product so many more on the horizon. Plus they are just great people to do business with.

Awesome stuff, wondering about using this in live production for augmented reality tv graphics
I actually think these guys are working on that right now with some production companies. But I'm not supposed to know about it or talk about.
what is augmented reality tv?
@@microfx
It is that kind of TV graphics which looks like it has been captured in camera. It looks like it is part of the football field, for example:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1st_%26_Ten_(graphics_system)
In practice it means graphics feed is being modified in real time based on camera position and its pan tilt zoom data.
@@MAKEARTNOWCHANNEL can imagine, I am already having ideas
@@jeffsaffron5647 ahh of course! I was always fascinated by those!
i think its little same Edelkone JibBone right?
WOW Dude great video; Yes things are starting to advance at a rapid rate and what a great time for it to do so...I also remember weird Science, Remembering Chad...LOL....
Sounds strange the audio I can tell you're using Adobe podcast if I'm right
I was following videos and you're concept
U looking for comments regarding the tv tissue scene 😅?
its important for the tv to have converging lines or your brain isn't going to care about depth.
Tell me more. Send me a DM, I'm def interested!
Woah woah… ide like to be a part of this convo as well lol. Don’t have it behind a wall please lol
I don't understand why you would use a TV instead of a projector, can someone explain?
Unreal integration aside how does it compare to edelkrone and rhino as a pan tilt slider? Seems competitively priced!
@@MAKEARTNOWCHANNEL Thanks for the info! I'm gonna give it a try!
9:00 Oh my Jergens, what are you gonna do with that? (Dirty mind) 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Oh he's crying! My sweet baby needs some milk! 😭🤣😭🤣😭🤣
