Thrilled you are joining the club my guy.
@@MAKEARTNOWCHANNEL If someone ask me why You doing video, why You try it, You dont have gear and skills etc. I always speak -its You , particular becouse Its in my opinion You are best video maker in this world (creativ from shots, from ideas and understand how to film and how emotions play main rule... maybe i lern someday how emotion works ( Spectrum) so Gerald hive 5 :) i watch both of Your channel from i thing 2 years so i simply thank You for this knowladge and experience with You :)
Matt from Poland :)
Just a short drive for Gerald to do a studio tour!
en joy yab bleh
@@MAKEARTNOWCHANNEL Blessings Josh for putting your family first. Now, grow your long hair back because that look was superb on you.
The irony is you tried for so long to break into an industry that is centred around telling stories yet you tell better stories than most people in that industry. You simply have a gift and we appreciate it so much. Another beauty
facts. I feel this dude is so underrated I need to watch all his stuff
the problem is you think the aim of the industry is the art , it's not , it's entertain the people which is clearly shows why something like marvel movies exist.
@@mohsenmoghaddas6406 I work in the film industry on the films we are talking about. It is why I point out his level of storytelling, because I am around derivative work all day.
Josh is the biggest ADHD plagued, focused , polite, nice guy I ever met. He is an amazing artist and super humble and fun to be around. Luv this guy !!!
Ohio is a great place to call home. You have to dig a lot deeper for adventure here, but you can and will find it! As for the weather, well... good luck 😂
Josh I’m 50. I slaved and ground away. I thought that was what I had to do. I was so wrong. Treasure every moment with your family. If you can, you must. In the final analysis, when you look back, this is what you’ll be proud of. Not the awards. Not the subs. Not the money.
A lovely moving video. I wish I’d done that with my dad. Lost him way too soon.
Completely agree.
me too
I just lost my dad, and this video just broke my heart open. Cherish your loved ones.
We could feel your emotion in that video and that was the best part of the video. Good luck in you new chapter and you are right, family is all the validation we need ;) have a good one.
Incredible, moving, compelling and touching video. Wow! I'm Blown away by this Josh. As a guy working professionally in video for 32 years, I can tell you four years does go by fast, too fast. I traveled a lot when my son was little and I would come home after a week and he looked like he grew three inches. He's almost 19 now. This move will payoff over a lifetime, many lifetimes even for you and your family. There will always be another camera with a better sensor, brighter lights and drones that can fly beyond the sky, but you only have one family and they will be with you long after the tech is outdated. I appreciate you so much for sharing this with us. Enjoy each moment.
It’s interesting that “validation” is the word at the center of the pursuit of your dream(s). After acting school, after film school, after 3 yrs in LA pursuing screenwriting ended abruptly in my and my now wife’s financial ruin, after ten years living in Omaha, Nebraska of all places (for this Chicagoland native)…I finally figured out the word that was at the center of my pursuits. My dreams.
It was “significance.”
I wanted to do something and make something and be something significant. And I am terrified of insignificance.
And it’s still hard sometimes to feel like I left LA and screenwriting and Hollywood and my biggest dream behind.
But every day I look at my two girls, my wife, my growing RUclips channel and business, the community I’ve built with my fellow content creators and my audience…and for the most part, for most of the time, I truly feel significant…to them.
And that that’s enough.
Most of the time.
Wonderful video. ❤️
mashaallah brother
"I'm terrified of insignificance". Damn. That hit me.
@@HECKHOUND38 Yeah, man. As far as I can tell it seems to be the thing at the center of it all for me.
@@LucasCreativeTech I disagree, Lucas. Much of my success in at least having a shot at becoming a pro screenwriter was the result of the relationships I formed while living in LA. These relationships were critical in getting me to the climax of my effort to “break in” which was to have a sci-fi action spec I wrote go out wide to all the major studios and mini-majors - Paramount, Universal, 20th Century Fox, Lionsgate, etc.
Without having been there, for me, that never would have happened. Does every person need to be there, especially how that social media and RUclips can do a lot of that heavy lifting? No. But my time was 2008 - 2011.
Appreciate your input!
Love it. I so appreciate that you're prioritizing family and being a present father. It's so sweet.
Wow such an heartfelt touching video, wow. Wishing you all the best adapting to the new life circumstances!
There's something about these videos that's just so damn enjoyable to watch, and I think I figured out what it is. For a lot of us guys, you embody our inner child - that playful, creative spirit that society works so hard to hush down and put back in the corner. It's no coincidence since I started watching videos from the likes of you, Casey, Peter and the rest here on RUclips that my self-belief and love for being creative and actually making things felt encouraged and nurtured. I don't think you'll ever realise what you've done for an entire generation...
All the best in Dayton and the changes it brings x
That was touching. So true about those young years. My boys are 4&7. I’m having a ton ton of fun with them but I wished I soaked in those younger years better and didn’t fight the struggle and exhaustion and just accept. That quote at the end really touched me and then you transition to building anew 👌🏽
love your french vacuum !
A beautiful and inspiring new chapter Josh! 😌
Oh man, this is so good and real not only in the LA bubble. Love your work, don't be affraid of snow!
One of the few non-narcissist filmmakers I follow ;)
This video is so emotional and beautifully made. Thanks Josh, you inspire so many especially me
This was great Josh, thank you for sharing such a special point in your life! Also your dad is a G haha Always wishing the best my dude 😊
A beautiful and timeless video you created right here Josh. I am greatful to have been able to see this one. I wish you all the best, for you, your wife and new child in this new home. I cannot wait to see your next adventures. 😇
Cheers,
A french director.
You are one highly inspirational being. I am beyond thrilled you moved to Ohio. I’ve been following you for years & never thought I’d live to see the day where someone of your artistic caliber would uproot themselves from the typical “LA dream” lifestyle to move to the Midwest. Very proud and happy for you to be on this new chapter with your family. This is your moment when life becomes worth so much more. ✊🏽😌
Jordon Peterson's clip was spot on. I drove my Son-in-law and daughter from Nashville to LA 3 months before COVID hit for him to pursue his dream. I'm hoping they exit California soon. Can't wait to see your new studio...Best to you and the family!
❤️
Man Josh why is your stuff so good! Honestly I aways feel so uplifted after watching your stuff! Please, don’t change ever!
Hey thanks dude! I appreciate the kinds words.
What a Touching video that I watched. Family is the most important thing that God is giving us.
Now THIS is how to document a life transition. Love the story elements here and how you wove the theme of needing to be heard/family throughout. Welcome to the midwest.
Damn Josh, this video brought me to tears but at the same time made me laugh. It was so great to meet you at Burning Man.
Extremely relatable dude. Just moved back to Tucson from NYC with my wife of a year- hoping to make a kiddo soon. Glad to know there are others on the same boat, struggling with the same life events. Glad to know you too have struggled with a need for validation. Your story makes me feel a little more quiet inside. Thanks
Bro… you’re a gem. Thank you for not quitting
Holy smokes man. Hit me right in the feels.
I never got around to watching this. As someone who also had a pandemic baby and had to make major shifts in his career to change lives like that - this was the most touching thing.
I went through an almost identical experience 3 years ago with a transition out of the bay area, CA and moving cross country with my less than 1 year old daughter. Seeing your experience, captured in your style, was truly awesome! I am wishing you the best of luck with your new start!!
Welcome to Ohio! Im right next door in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania... You'll get used to the seasons and start to appreciate them. I have a few good friends that are leaving LA, California also and moving here very soon.
This hits on so many levels… with myself and probably many of your viewers. Congrats on the move and good luck on the studio! 🤙
SO SO SO good! It's an honor to follow your journeys through both life and creativity, Josh! Wishing you and your family the best for this next chapter!
Great video, gave me all the feels. Father of 3 here and my wife and I decided we would sacrifice money and careers to ensure we were around for our kids while they were young. Zero regrets
Love this.
you know what, it was a great story.. a movie to be remembered forever, I don't know about others but what you are doing is really called progress and achievement.! nothing is more important than life and the people in it... Just loved this journey..! Make Art Make Life.!
I watch your channel for one simple reason Josh. You are an outstanding story teller. Real ones or made up ones, it doesn’t matter just please keep telling stories. Make Ohio interesting!
lol, Dude is an ass, if you think this is storytelling I can’t help you.
Next kickstarter after orbit: a french robot vacuum that doesn't clean, but just makes snarky remarks before rolling into another room.
Since we all are shifting towards shorter content I've observed that my patience is decreasing day by day but I am surprised that I watched this entire video without skipping any of it. Great work done 🤝
There is something so special about this video! The journey, the changes and struggles, the life in LA with a dream, it’s such a beautiful trajectory and I can totally relate to all of that. You and your Dad traveling together, everything is just so special.
Thank you for creating this video Josh! 🙌🏼
Fannnnntastic! I know exactly how you feel, that cross roads in life’s choices is where I’m at. You did the right thing, even if you don’t stay there forever a change is good and it’s for the family! Well done on creating a meaningful video that so many need to see
BRO! My family lives in Dayton!! Excited for this new adventure in your life. 🤘
So well put together, such killer storytelling man! Loved the bits with your dad in the truck haha
Bruh! I've never had goosebumps out of watching a RUclips video! You're special! Keep on making art!
Bro! Absolutely fantastic! Your content is a whole different level. The bar is set. Much respect!
Josh, I’ve been a fan of yours for a few years now. This video hit me so hard. Detroit kid, moved to LA then back then to Nashville, accelerates and excels in my career, starts a company, has a daughter, far from family, realizes work is every where you make it and is now convincing my partner that we can go anywhere may find me back in Detroit or for all I know Idaho (my wife will probably make this choice) but all that to say this was a wonderful video. It felt as if I was along the ride with you and made me inspired to figure out the next chapter. Cheers man!
Spectacular storytelling! Thank you for sharing this art piece! Good luck with your future endeavours, a wild adventure awaits you mate.
Enjoy your Dad man, that trip with him is GOLD! I moved out of CA in 2009. Your stories are always awesome.
1965 🤦♂️ Bahahha
I am quite happy that Peterson has been getting through to people about how precious time is with their children. Best of luck.
Awesome work man, this really hit home at the end there. 2 boys over here @ 10 and 12yrs. They grow fast but watching them grow and turn into the men they are quickly becoming has brought and is bringing me so much joy. Funny how family, when looked at through the proper lens, completely fulfills our need for validation as in their eyes, we are 1000% validated and cherished for just being who we are. I get caught up in the YT hustle and forget to slow down and take the time to cherish the present, so thanks for the reminder. Best of luck with the new space and the new beginning.
Also, your dad seems like a really great guy🙂.
The mask/covid test scene and that thinking...so California.
Almost everywhere outside of certain places, we've been maskless and worry-free for at least a year and a half.
Your comments about your wife not liking the masklessness struck me as how Cali really stuck it to it's citizens, especially in LA.
Welcome back to freedom!
There is no substitute for the physical presence of someone you love. The time and experience shared with each other. Thank you for the lovely video!!
Yep I felt this!
Thanks for making the video! My wife is from Ohio and I’ve grown up in LA my whole life. Praying for the best for you and your family! 🙏🏽
Welcome to the Midwest! I’m from north west Indiana and I love the change of season. And you are correct sir, family is everything, it’s the only thing we have. Best of luck to you and your family!
Smart move man! I started working from home when my 1st born was 1. Best decision I made to prioritize family. One major tip which I am sure you know of is get that basement studio as sound proof from the external noise too. Cause the bigger the kids get the more noise they make! Also welcome to Ohio. I’m about 20mins sound of Dayton.
I know how you are feeling, I moved from California to Iowa years ago and the weather was a huge awakening. Good luck to you and your family in your new adventure!
Thank you for that ending. You broke my heart man. Please don't ever give up the fight. Us losers with no wife, kids or excuses need you. I have burnt all my boats, traveled far past the point of no return. There is no fallback for me. You're so talented man. Watching you leave and seeing those auditions. I don't know what to say. Selfishly, I want the best for you. You're unique voice gave my unique voice hope. THANK YOU for the Anamorphic series, you're sense of humor and sincere hostmanship (new word).
Congratulations! Keep up the great work. I left LA last year after 25yrs. As the Dollar loses it’s world reserve currency status inflation and chaos will get worse. Protect your loved ones. Plus with internet you can live anywhere. Remember no pain no gain. Hollywood gets caught up in the BS of having material things. Family is everything.
We got so much more for our dollar here in Ohio. It's crazy!
@@MAKEARTNOWCHANNEL Totally. Ohio has a-lot of good, valued people. Can’t wait to see your place all fixed up. We moved to Florida. Great value slso compared to LA.
My brother did the same thing, decided last year that he needed to make a change for him and his family, left our production company and moved from Southern California to Texas to back into Real Estate. Said he needed to spend more time with his kids, so this video hit home. Miss them, spoke to him the other night and he said after being in Texas that the door isn't completely closed on moving back but it would take a lot to come back. Best of luck in Ohio.
You are one of the finest storytellers out there. There arte literally millions of individuals trying to be heard or validated, but you do it everyday. And you have the nicest family! Just keep on being yourself and doing what you like. Greetings from Mexico! (Long time fan here)
Bro, solid story, solid video, solid move, and EXCELLENT Jordan Peterson quote reference! Awesome man, excited for you
I moved out of LA in 2005 when my daughter was 5 - You won't be sorry my friend. My daughter is now 21 and grew up so beautifully due to having a reality based life around her. Best move you could possibly make, other than moving to Ohio. Oregon is far cooler. lol. Peace/Love/inspiration.
Can agree, as someone living in Cincinnati, Ohio weather is all the seasons in a 7 hour stretch most days.
Stumbled upon your content as a hobby videographer, your channel is inspiring. Thank you for all you do!
Thank you so much for sharing this part of your life and your experience...I also recently just gave up the 'big city' dreams (Colorado Springs) to move closer to family in a smaller area of New York. I have really been struggling with the change, walking away and giving up all the work and connections that I had built over the years in Colorado and adjusting to this new life that is more family focused. I think it is a good change, but still is not easy. Hearing you talk about your decision really resonated with me and brought some kind of peace; if you, from L.A. can take the leap and make the adjustment, then I surely can too. Best of luck on your new endeavors and thank you again for creating this beautiful piece.
Wow, Josh, I just love this. No one understands moving from a big city (Los Angeles) to what felt like the middle of nowhere (Oregon) more than I do, and much for the same reason. But what moves me the most is the relationship you have with your father and father in law. Not just because you're close, but because there are actively involved in your life, and you in theirs. Having lost my father when I was young, I can definitely promise that these moments, and the springtime of your young family, are precious beyond words. Long after the 24bit raw wristwatch camera comes and goes, these digital reminders (in some form) will be here as testament to just how rare, crazy, trying, wonderful, and priceless these times were.
Beautifully said. Sorry about your father. That must have been rough. Thanks for the kind words.
I gotta say, you are a really great story teller Josh. All that time in LA gave you that, the knowledge of "how to do it". There is no school for it, theres the "thing", the "it", the "way to do it", and you have it buddy, you kept me hanging on the story right till the end, where you rewarded the viewer with a little surprise, with the enough ammount of humor for those who follow your work. Cant wait for the next project! Good luck on the new adventure.
Just drove through Daytona on a road trip from Jersey to Indiana and back. Best wishes on this chapter for you and your family.
A highly underrated creator, love the style of your story telling, well done!
My dude. You're on the RIGHT path. You chose your family and I cannot emphasize enough how right of a choice that is. About to make the leap to Tennessee myself. I'm north of Seattle right now. The change will allow me to be home more with my family. And I CANNOT WAIT for that. Just spent 6 weeks on the road, filming for various clients, just to make sure that I have enough for my family to keep going. But with the rising prices and shifting politics, I'm ready for a change. Big fish in a little pond is where some of the greatest things were achieved. You have a lot to look forward to in the Midwest. It'll take some patience though, as I'm sure you know;) Looking forward to your next step. I'll be right behind ya.
I gave up a corporate job in Washington DC to move back to my hometown in Michigan to become a University professor. I now teach photo and film and love every moment of it. Good for you!!!
I packed up my little car with everything I owned and left LA after a year eating my socks and trying to get anywhere in the industry. That feeling of leaving came back to me watching your moving film. After being in a dark hole for longer than I care to admit, I got moving and making again. You will kick ass wherever you will land.
Very entertaining! Thanks @Javed for taking me here! 👍 great story, love the way you edit. Greetings from Switzerland 🇨🇭
as your family grows you will have no regrets. We left California for the east coast when we had kids and it was the best decision for our family! All the best in your new location! 🙏
holy fuck dude. this made me cry like a baby. Such a ton of emotions came through as I watched your journey in Cali end and a new one begin. I told you once that others have told me "you're my doppelganger.... yet younger." I hope your next chapter is wonderful and as interesting as I think it will be. Thank you for this deep share and honesty. If I get to your neck of the woods I'll holla at you. Best of luck. Dreams change but will always remain true to your heart. LOVE.
Hey man. I did the same thing two years ago. After 24 years inLA working as an editor in TV, I made the one way road trip with my wife to Milwaukee. Best decision ever. I worked remotely for a while with LA, kept on listening to KCRW to know how was the traffic on the 405. Then one day I listened to NPR Milwaukee, and quit my LA gig. My last day of work in in two days. After that LA will be behind 100%. Good luck
Beautiful video ❤️
Been following you for a few years now and this is easily my favorite. Thanks for your authenticity, Josh.
i really love how you somehow always fit a narative that mirrors your life in some ways, it's so relatable yet vulnerable ... Keep up the good work you've got everything you need!
Good luck with this new start. Your son is fortunate to have a bright, capable and caring father that appreciates the value of being a good parent.
Brother, just getting a chance to watch this. So beautiful man. Your perspective is inspiring. You'll continue to exceed in Ohio. Come on down to Nashville and check out the creative scene here.
What a magnificent self examination, thanks. Something most of the nation is doing right now. I'm a couple decades ahead of you... Your fathers advice, (4 years) was spot on... I don't have to look back to know I should have been home more instead of filming. The move you just made guarantees you will never be looking back brother. Now hurry up with the studio... this old camera op is still learning. You and Gerald are my two go tos. P.S. Tell Gerald to slow down and once in a while, take a breath. All the best Josh.
You probably don't remember me, but I've been watching you since you were a small channel. I'm glad to see you leave California. Besides it being a great thing for your family, there is so much more to life than the sun, beach and desert, and I'm looking forward to seeing what this change does for your work. Thanks again for another great video!
This is so good.
I love the storytelling, the footage w/your dad, the Orbit footage, and the JP quote. Well done, sir.
The JP quote is words to live by. One of my life goals is to never become the dad in every christmas movie that missed out on his kids big moments because he did nothing but work.
I’ve watched your videos since you had less than 20k subs a few years ago. What a journey.
This particular story encompasses the crossroads I’m at myself. Happy to see you focusing on what’s important to YOU.
Enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. Being a creator, an entrepreneur, and a father, it really hit home.
Pure Genius! You’ll do great anywhere and you’re making the right decision putting family first.
This connects with me. With the individual within. Growing out of our childhood, living the life we think we want, and then finding true fulfillment, leaving the childhood fantasies. The only takeaway being the essence we get from all that running around. The essence we extract from a life truly lived to the max...
“…Traded his need for validation for a family.”
That line resonated so well. About a week after you were in Austin, my son was born and it was a life changing experience. You only have so many cares to give and there are an unlimited number of buckets. Gotta put your cares in the right buckets.
Is it just me or this is best of youtube... Vlog, travel, tech, family, fans, story, cinematic, fun, clever, surprising...
My big respect to Josh, I’ve been following you for a while now. Watched almost all of your videos, I used to have an Instagram and whenever I dmed, you always responded to my questions, this tells how much humble human you are!
I live in Pittsburgh, PA wish I had a chance to meet you in person 🙏🏻
Keep up the good work 👍🏻
The ability that this guy have to tell a story is fucking UNBELIEVABLE! You see, those are not aways perfect beautiful shots, but they tell a STORY! That's so inspiring...
Awe thanks man. You're very kind.
Never seen your channel, but I genuinely enjoyed this. Brought back many memories of me and my parents as a kid, got me thinking of where I’m at and where I’d like to be in life. Thank you 🙏
You are a good storyteller my friend.
This guy here knows storytelling. His vlogs takes you on an enjoyable journey. Good luck on your next adventure, I will be tuning in for the next chapter.
As a fellow Ohioan, I feel for you with the weather. Just budget the time and money to take a very long vacation in January...and maybe February and March while you’re at it! 😊
Good luck. Bro onto new endevors. LA will always be here.
I appreciate this video, you and your story so much Josh! I can't wait to see what you do with that basement and the new memories you'll make with your family.
Great video and story - this is one of my favourites from your channel. Good luck on the next chapter
Thank you!
I feel all the feels as a parent of 3. Such a well made video and an amazing story. Love the JP audio at around 11:30 so true time is fleeting and we must step up and do what is right for our family. Thanks so much for sharing! I wish you all the success in the world on your new journey.
This is beautiful. Thank you for taking the time to make this and the courage to upload it. I appreciate you and your time. You're on the right path.
Love it! Thanks for sharing your story! - I normally come for the tips and tricks but its good to see the man behind the camera - Truely appreciate!
