Your video was all about cool shots and atmosphere. But the other video told the story which makes it better, not because they used an expensive motion camera.
pro one was def better. Unfortunately your commercial did not tell me anything about what the actual product was. For all i know it could be a bunch of playing cards. The pro video was clear, concise and inspiring. Of course the transitions etc was insane but from a message conveyance perspective you can see why the pro one was better imo. Loved the concept of the video! Please do more like this!
Yes the pro one, shoes the frustration of a burned out person who then finds a way to unblock his creativity... the other video is like a box of cards in a room full of people getting stoned with canabis based vapes while the sliding camera was going back and forward with no supervision
I loved seeing the creative process behind both commercials, and the different tools used to create them! I think both commercials are great in their own way! Chris's commercial can be used as a introducing/coming soon promo video! Jeff's commercial is about what UNBLOCK cards are, and what they are used for! Great content , and editing as always!
It's not about which one is better! I feel like your commercial is more authentic and more YOU. The "Pro" one is incredible but out of context, it doesn't show the intimacy of the cards. It's just a regular commercial... A Mixture of Both would be The TOP choice!
It shows that you're a photographer - you focused on the product and visually showed the best aspects of it. However, Jeff's told a story: showed the character, the problem, the solution, the impact. His definitely was more effective!
Honestly both were good. Videos like this are a prime example that you can shoot anything with what you have. It's been taking me years to stop putting limits on myself to the point after 20 years when I was shooting/editing pro wrestling shows that now at 44 I'm just getting back to working on projects. Thx to people like you, Peter, Daniel, Sam, Sara. Its not how much you have its about what you have available and being creative with it.
I think the pro won this time. The reason being, this is a commercial rather then a sneak peak. So the pro makes sure he describes to the viewer what the product is for and kind of how it would be used. Chris’s video is better suited as a teaser style video. The shots are great and beautiful but from a consumer perspective I would think it’s just a deck of playing cards. The “product commercial” needs to explain visually what the product is to someone outside your audience. I hope that’s great feedback for you Chris!!!
Jeff's video for sure. Not just because of the cool effects and studio techniques, but because it showcased the purpose of the product. Yours was also very technically impressive and you built a cool atmosphere, but if I saw yours as a social media ad, I would have guessed it was just a premium regular old deck of cards and kept scrolling.
Jeff's commercial was insane. Really captured what they were used for and visually looked fantastic. Chris's commercial was still visually appealing, I thought the lighting was a little lackluster, especially when comparing to Jeff's, and didn't give enough info. Either way thanks for the content Chris, I will now be following Jeff for more great inspo as well. Good idea for a product too!
Chris, regardless of who’s video is better, the fact that you’re putting your product out there and going for it, is admirable. Stoked for your success with Unblock and that you’re stepping outside of your comfort zone. Babe Ruth said, “Every stile brings me closer to the next home run.” And my guy, you have knocked this one out of the park👏🏾 Keep inspiring others with your gifts!
The pro one gave more insight into what the product does. Yours was beautifully shot, not that I would expect anything less. But the other one let’s me know the products use.
Honestly, I could barely see Chris' product in the commercial while in the pro one, the placement of both the branding and individual cards sold me on the impact it could have on a blocked creative's process. Great job executing a thought from you both.
Story is definitely important. I didn't realize that story is also important in a product commercial. You don't have to have a $500k camera setup to tell a story. As long as you have a good story, you probably can get away with using a cheep camera.
I'm not going to add after reading all the comments. BUT - this was a GREAT learning device for us! Comparison giving us a hard core visual on the difference in telling a story vs cinematic Broll. And we love you. We're not going away.
LOVED this one! Jeff's shots were incredible, like some of the best product shots we've seen, BUT the edit itself was lacking structure we felt. They're both great vids in their own right, albeit completely different.
I feel like yours felt more like a movie trailer and Jeff's was more of a product commercial both are dope, but as far as achieving the goal, the pro landed this one.
These were such different types of commercial. Yours was just to show the Product, without any story to tell. Jeffs was just the Story, the Product, the Elements. Both were so good! But Jeffs did catch me more ;)
Chris you video did nothing to show what your product was used for being the great storyteller that you are I was honestly surprised. Looked dope so it will be cool to be in maybe the background of the website but the pro definitely shows what the product is meant to do in a fun and creative way. This video as a whole was amazing, well edited, and well paced with an excellent story line.
I want to take a different approach with this. The pro commercial is great to be the first commercial to tell the story of what is cards are, and what they are for. Once the world knows what it is and seen that commercial. Then the amateur commercial will be the 2nd to release, and that video focus just on the deck of cards that everybody already knows and love due to the first commercial.
Both was epic commercial if I have to pick it will be the first one love the mystery look but imagine if u combine both commercial that will be epic to see
The pro commercial told me a story about a product I had no idea about, and by the end I knew what it was and what it could do for me. The amateur commercial showed me a product and assumed I already knew about it. However I can see a space for both of these in their current state. The pro is what I would put out into the world for all to see and discover. The amateur I would put on the website as a looping background piece.
As others in the comments are saying the Pro one was better because it told me the story and purpose of the cards in a very engaging way. But I definitely loved the Pete and Daniel inspiration for your product video Chris!
Visually speaking both were very beautifully shot and appeal to different audiences depending on what aesthetic style they like. But considering that this is a product shoot where the intention is to create curiosity and "need" in the consumer for a certain product, Jeff's commercial better presented the way the cards can be used. Not being familiar myself with the product from before, seeing Jeff's commercial I instantly understood how I can use the product and thought that it's quite a unique idea. While with Chris' commercial if I hadn't seen Jeff's commercial first, I would have thought it's just a normal deck of cards. So in a way for a customer who isn't familiar with the product from before the first commercial is more intriguing and made better justice to the product itself. In Jeff's commercial you understand it's a unique product unlike anything else, demonstrating a clear and fresh use case. With Chris' commercial, it's a basic deck of cards, like a million other out there. Anyone agree or disagree? Would be interesting to hear different thoughts :D
Really enjoyed this video 👌🏼 The pro commercial did a great job of showing the purpose/benefit of the cards. Whereas yours Chris, was more of a commercial for the lens than the cards 😅😂
I think Jeffs is more of a…. Well, commercial. I’d expect to see that as an ad for your product. But yours id prefer to see as a short or a reel. Not long or informative enough to be an ad, but short and captivating enough to make me want to know more about what it is.
I feel both the commercials have their pros and cons, like output wise the pro one is definitly better and it gives us a glimpse about what the product is about, but personally, I feel too much is happening in it with so many elements, fast cuts, transitions and lastly, I couldn't really connect with the music (though I have to say I really liked the shot where the Unblock Box fell and turned into keys and when the black sand blew away to reveal the card within); where as Chris's one seemed more like a teaser rather than the commercial itself as it didn't tell us much about the product, but was able to create this sense of mystery.
I think the pro video is better is because it tells a better story of what the cards are and why I would want to buy them. Your video was legit in terms of cool factor, but it felt like you were selling playing cards until the very end when I saw the "unlock your creativity". Great RUclips video though on the two films being created. I loved it.
I think Jeffs video actually lets me know what the product is, Chris’s video is amazingly shot, but it fells Like a new deck of cards dropped from theory11. I love it, but if you cut the beginning some and added some of the cards themselves. I think it would have told more. But your the professional I’m just beginning. Opinions are subjective! Cheers!
I think in this case it's an obvious win. Jeff. Two things I'd like to see. Daniel Schiffer actually work his magic as he doesn't have a million dollar studio vs Jeff as they do similar style videos with different gear. Not to take away from Jeff who has probably always been phenomenal but he just has a limitless playground now. Few limitations on creativity. The other option would be for the both of you to use the same equipment whether that would be you coming up with an idea that can take use of his studio/robot arm and seeing if there's a story or concept that could top his OR Jeff dials it back and uses only gear similar to what you have at your disposal. Great video!
dope loved your comm set PM was on the money, but the speed of the robot arm. That dude is dope and it obviously is super pro. Cheers to you both and congrats on the new products brother. Happy Holidays! 🎊🎁
Sorry, Chris, You have nice shots, nicely combined, but Jeff made an epic commercial that's just on another level (storytelling, production value)! Still... your content is still epic and you didn't have a robot at your service, lol
To be honest I really cannot compare due to their very different approach. Both are sick videos and of course you both nailed it! I liked your video more Chris because first of all it felt so natural and real and second because even though Jeff nailed it, I feel his kind of approach looked a bit common with a lot of commercials nowadays and I prefer the not to mainstream approaches better. His robot arm was dope but that vape nailed it !!!
I honestly liked yours so much more. Yours is focused on the product. The other on the creator and I don't really understand what that comercial is about
I like the "Pro" more, but considering the equipment they're using, the experience and everything, yours is way better in terms of making an exceptional job with "limited" gear and materials. That vape smoke was really really nice tho, i have to use one in some of my pictures or videos!
Hey! I definitely liked the Pro advertisement better! In your Ad, there was no story about the deck as to what it does. Fortunately I have watched the one on the Deck so know how useful it is to any creative - also in your video for the snippet of EST. 2020 9:46 to 9:47 it could have been lit the other way (from bottom to top) as that is the more natural way of reading as it makes the eye follow left to right.
The Pro commercial had some really good shots, effects, and transition. There was a message there about creativity, and being yourself, but the product placement was obscure. The amateur commercial had a lot more product placement and I knew what the commercial was about. I like that it gave how long the company was around giving the end user a sense of quality and assurance. What I didn't like is the actual product was never showcased, just the case was showcased. No scene of the product being used. You combine both concepts of the commercials and now you have a great commercial. I don't think anyone won in this case. I do like the work of the amateur commercial better if I had to choose one based on videography.
i loved both but Pro Com was Explaining what the product is and gave the emotion was lookin forward to change mindset to become a better creator and visual story teller.
Both looked visually amazing and very appealing but to be honest neither of them really “advertised” or “commercialized” the product to me. Maybe some voiceover that told a story would make it better, otherwise lovely job!
I thought the point in an advert was to basically market what you’re selling and what the product does. If I didn’t already know what the product was then i’d think this was just a pack of playing cards?
I kept waiting for the point where you were going to use the unblock cards to think through what to do with the commercial... and have that become the commercial.
His, not yours. But some part of yours could come in handy as a b roll or as a surprise contrast to his lively interpretation. Yours has a mysterious feeling, and that's all there is to it.
I think the pro was better at conveying what the product is and is for in a visual way, however I think the visual aesthetic of the amateur was more in line with the aesthetic of the product. Honestly if this were a commercial campaign I were working on professionally I don't think I'd be happy with either one. I think you really need something that achieves both. I honestly would have like to have seen what they could have done with the Pro commercial had you set them up with the amateur commercial or some of the stills you shot with Pete for the mood boards/concept.
I really liked Jeff's from a technical standpoint, but I think he focused a little too heavily on the keys (making it seem like they were part of the pack), and the rainbow lighting and impact font weren't really in keeping with the product at all. Yours was moody, rustic, and very in tune with the branding - I'd say a few more shots of the actual cards themselves, as well as some phrases around the theme would've really sold yours.
Both are good i prefer your esthetic but the pro one explain more what the product is about .. yours only shows the product .. Both are good but the pro win on showing what the product can do for me ! Love from Québec 😅
My opinion is the Pro hits more on the product placement. Yours looks good aswell, But I think you could do something better. Try scripting your idea and then making a short storyboard and I think the results going to be amazing. thnka you for bringing this interesting comparison.
Both are good, but each video is definitely for a different audience. Like the 'amateur' one looks like a reveal commercial and the 'Pro" one felt like one you show to your everyday consumer. They each tell a different story, both get the point across.
I agree with many of the comments: the pro commercial was better and more clear about what the product was. Also, the amateur version was too dark for most of it. I was straining to see anything on my computer other than a small amount of sheen off the foil. 🤷
I like Jeff's commercial more, there was just more appeal to it. The one Chris made didn't feel very put together, there was a lot of snippets of content but it didnt really tell a story or paint the picture. It felt more like some b-roll for the product.
Pro all the way, starting with the story behind the cards. (It told me what they were for) to the footage, and teasing of what some of the cards actually say. (Making me want more) The only negative from the pro, I would like to see "by Chris Hau" featured, so those who follow him would also be enticed to buy them based off their relationship with the creator.
Both are different but The pro one is like butter on bread with best in class garnishing. Most professional. And armature one is like homemade tost it's easy not going rip off you poket. In india there is a word the sweetness of your tea/coffee depends on how much suger you have used to make it.
To be completely honest, neither video told me what the product was. Don't get me wrong, both were creative and very well shot. I probably liked your shots better....I just feel like they need more. Maybe you have a voice over that you plan to lay over this? I just feel kinda lost watching these.
The amateur commercial looked good but I think the professional commercial did a better job of telling a story or showing the viewer what the benefit of that product is and why they should by it.
Visually, yours was neat. Succeeds if it was a product "teaser", kind of like DJI does when they have something about to drop. Pro commercial highlighted your product and its purpose better.
I think you are a great talent and I respect everything you do and I have personally learned a great deal from you. But, the pro had a friggen robot and FIRE. It was stacked against you sir. I will take my blocking like a man. But with tears and a bit of screaming. FFFFIIIRRREEE and robots unbelievable.
From vide perspective it's hard to pick a winner, both are fine in another aspects. As a commercial, I would pick Jeff's version, because it connects me more with the feelnig, why I need that product, so it focuses on the viewer, not on the product. However for my taste, that video is somewhere too much, so from the raw watching experience, your video is matches more my taste. Anyway, both are great!
Golam Muhaimeen, "what he said" it might be my monitor, but it seem to dark. Also the black out part, to long. But, what do I know, that is why I here, to learn. Very impressed with all of it. I would be thrilled to do what ” YOU” just did. Hopefully someday, with the help from the talent & inspiration from people like you. Jeff's OMG
Neither of them were good from a branding or messaging standpoint. Jeff's was visually interesting. Yours was mostly a black screen with tiny flashes of luminance where you couldn't make out what you're looking at.
Who do you think won!? Be honest with me. Also go show some love and give him a subscription: ruclips.net/channel/UCK3OL5ormn5mjlOjIKInnpw
Your friend won
you're always a winner in my mind
Your video was all about cool shots and atmosphere. But the other video told the story which makes it better, not because they used an expensive motion camera.
The vibe of yours is better but the effects of the other are cooler
Both of them had really great elements...marry the two to make one really awesome commercial. ;)
pro one was def better.
Both are epic commercials in there own way. However I think Jeff's commercial tells more of the story of your product and yours is an epic B-roll👍
Thank you! I really had a fun time implementing story into this project
The “product commercial” needs to explain visually what the product is to someone outside your audience. I hope that’s great feedback for you Chris!!!
Diff stories, both great quality.
Jeff for sure for the story of why.
Chris for multimedia stories and ads / brand awareness. Great job both.
jeff definitely did a better job at showing me what the deck is but yours fits the vibe more
Jeff's video for sure. Not just because of the cool effects and studio techniques, but because it showcased the purpose of the product. Yours was also very technically impressive and you built a cool atmosphere, but if I saw yours as a social media ad, I would have guessed it was just a premium regular old deck of cards and kept scrolling.

Either way thanks for the content Chris, I will now be following Jeff for more great inspo as well.
Good idea for a product too!
Thank you! I’ll definitely be posting more on RUclips
The pro video is 4000 times more relevant to the customer. The amateur is not an ad. It's just a cool video for a product placement
We call next battle! This video was awesome. 🔥 Jeff def won though…
Holy cow, Chris' commercial actually suited the product more! The pro one was just a ton of glam shots that overall was very disjointed from the story
Jeff is King of the Camera!
Thanks!
wow that pro commercial tho , so cinematic its like watching a movie
Good Job Chris!
Story is definitely important. I didn't realize that story is also important in a product commercial. You don't have to have a $500k camera setup to tell a story. As long as you have a good story, you probably can get away with using a cheep camera.

I honestly loved both of them!
im halfway through the video and i already love it
Both were great honestly. Just a different style.
Very sorry to say this… Pro is on a very different level. But man, yours was really cool and looked amazing!
They both looked good, but his just communicated way clearer and kept my focus a lot better
When I saw Daniel I was like « boom that’s like Avengers Assemble » 🤙😂
Both are very good on their own, but the pro ad just takes the cake.
Both was epic commercial if I have to pick it will be the first one love the mystery look but imagine if u combine both commercial that will be epic to see
The pro commercial told me a story about a product I had no idea about, and by the end I knew what it was and what it could do for me.

Really enjoyed this video 👌🏼
The pro commercial did a great job of showing the purpose/benefit of the cards.
Whereas yours Chris, was more of a commercial for the lens than the cards 😅😂

But yours id prefer to see as a short or a reel. Not long or informative enough to be an ad, but short and captivating enough to make me want to know more about what it is.
eagerly waiting for the Daniel's one!
They are both amazingly done! My cards are almost here!🙏🏻😁
I feel both the commercials have their pros and cons, like output wise the pro one is definitly better and it gives us a glimpse about what the product is about, but personally, I feel too much is happening in it with so many elements, fast cuts, transitions and lastly, I couldn't really connect with the music (though I have to say I really liked the shot where the Unblock Box fell and turned into keys and when the black sand blew away to reveal the card within); where as Chris's one seemed more like a teaser rather than the commercial itself as it didn't tell us much about the product, but was able to create this sense of mystery.
Jeff's commercial is so epic!
He really crushed it! So dope
"I know someone who can do it for cheaper" 🙃😂
Chris, I sleep each time i watch your commercial.
I think the pro video is better is because it tells a better story of what the cards are and why I would want to buy them. Your video was legit in terms of cool factor, but it felt like you were selling playing cards until the very end when I saw the "unlock your creativity". Great RUclips video though on the two films being created. I loved it.

Pro it is, both amazing but the pro had a good story while your work is more like a trailer to an upcoming product. both amazing!
the pro one was completely mad. skills!
I know Jeff. He has cool stuff, and is also Cool himself.
dope loved your comm set PM was on the money, but the speed of the robot arm. That dude is dope and it obviously is super pro. Cheers to you both and congrats on the new products brother. Happy Holidays! 🎊🎁
Jeff Larsen. And the $500k rig had nothing to do with it. The story line made the difference. Execution was outstanding. ✌🏼
Jeff killed it.
Dude he crushhhhhhhhedddddd
Thank you!
Jeffs commercial sold me on these cards. I want!
I don't feel like I'd call Chris an "amateur" Maybe like an amateur+ worst case 🤣🤣😂😂
But when you watch Jeff. You might think otherwise. 😂
the good thing is you cn use both at the same time in different ad spots
Sorry, Chris, You have nice shots, nicely combined, but Jeff made an epic commercial that's just on another level (storytelling, production value)! Still... your content is still epic and you didn't have a robot at your service, lol
To be honest I really cannot compare due to their very different approach. Both are sick videos and of course you both nailed it! I honestly liked yours so much more. Yours is focused on the product. The other on the creator and I don't really understand what that comercial is about
Oh I see what's going on here, well played Chris 😉
amateur video should be the teaser of the main commercial but overall both of the videos were lit ❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥
I like the "Pro" more, but considering the equipment they're using, the experience and everything, yours is way better in terms of making an exceptional job with "limited" gear and materials. That vape smoke was really really nice tho, i have to use one in some of my pictures or videos!
Might be hard to believe at this point, but I rarely leave comments. But you "Inspired" me, no pun intended, this was a very good video.
I loved the first one 😍
Well done Chris. Both videos are great. Congratulations on selling out Unblocked!
Hey! I definitely liked the Pro advertisement better! In your Ad, there was no story about the deck as to what it does. Jeff all the way. Gear does matter tho😉 Needed to see more of the cards in yours
i loved both but Pro Com was Explaining what the product is and gave the emotion was lookin forward to change mindset to become a better creator and visual story teller.
You almost killed him with the Vape... LOL
Bahahaha. Too intense haha
@@thechrishau Hahahaha...
The Pro feels more like I know what the product is and why I need it
I was thinking the whole time that some how you where going to put them together. I wonder how that would look?
Do a Daniel Schiffer vs Jeff Larsen video that would be SICK!!!!
Pro. It just had so much going on I was hooked lol.
Both are different but
The pro one is like butter on bread with best in class garnishing. Most professional.
And armature one is like homemade tost it's easy not going rip off you poket.
In india there is a word
the sweetness of your tea/coffee depends on how much suger you have used to make it.
I prefer the 2nd. Commercial 👍🏿
That’s my Jeep!
Pro just had that extra bedazzle
Golam Muhaimeen, "what he said" it might be my monitor, but it seem to dark. Also the black out part, to long. But, what do I know, that is why I here, to learn. Very impressed with all of it. I would be thrilled to do what ” YOU” just did. Hopefully someday, with the help from the talent & inspiration from people like you. Jeff's OMG
Neither of them were good from a branding or messaging standpoint. Jeff's was visually interesting. Yours was mostly a black screen with tiny flashes of luminance where you couldn't make out what you're looking at.
