the actor who played Sam's gay former teammate is Carlos Brown, also known as Alan Autry, former Green Bay Packers quarterback and later the mayor of Fresno, California.
One of the biggest surprises from an actor I ever heard was Ted Danson admitting that playing Sam Malone terrified him. Apparently he is _nothing_ like this guy, and was riven with doubt about whether he could do it, and then whether he was doing it right. That just amazed me, because Sam is one of the most natural sitcom characters I've seen - his effortless ease with himself is so tasty. Speaks volumes of how good Danson is at his job.
I too saw an interview where he discusses this and agree, it's so surprising as he is such a deft hand at this role. Additionally, he comes across as very thoughtful and smart during interviews, very self-aware - the kind of person, who doesn't take things for granted, so perhaps one can see that he wouldn't just be cocky about it.
Well its actually quite common, after all they're actors. The producers had there doubts as well, but the liked the chemistry with Shelly, and after dong Taxi, they felt it critical to have a romance at the center of the show.

The thing about Cheers, like Taxi before it, was it was a true ensemble comedy. But the extra layer in Cheers was the characters were so different, that you could have so many different kinds of humor, because you had such different characters. Highbrow, lowbrow, slapstick, screwball, raunchy, sophomoric, puns, dad jokes ... You had everything. That's why I have Cheers up there with Seinfeld in my pantheon. The PC motto: Combat stupidity with a big dose of dumbassery. Works every time.
I love that purple angora sweater/dress the blonde actress is wearing. its amazing...hope to buy one in my size one day.
Ok where can I watch that show?
As much as sam malone is great, Ted Danson's acting has only gotten better and better through the years. I enjoy watching him now as much if not more than his younger years.
6:13 - I wonder how much they used to charge for a beer that was 2/3 foam?
They love each other cheers never be the same when she left
Let's be real here we all wanted Sam's little black book lol.
Who's the female blond with glasses. She's been in other shows
That was Julia Duffy.
She was actually one of the actresses who auditioned for the role of Diane Chambers before Shelley Long got the role.
Duffy would later go on to be Stephanie Vanderkellen in Newhart, replacing Jennifer Holmes' character of Leslie Vanderkellen, Stephanie's cousin.
who is the purple at about a minute or so
Angela Aames
Very epic video delightful. Keep it up.
Thanks, will do!
Okay, I just bought the complete series on RUclips....I used to watch it every night (as background noise) going to sleep, for nearly 10 years on Netflix (starting April of 2011)....then Netflix removed Cheers just a few days ago (now its at CBS All Access). Girlfriends come over to --sleep-- fuck, and they always ask or say, "What are you watching?" or "I know that old show!" Ahahahah I'm watching it before bed as we speak at 2am, July 5, 2020 LOL
JJ UnBlacklist ya I got upset when Netflix removed it
@@gnsports3720 I was mad too! I already have Starz, HBOmax, Cinemax, Prime Videos, RUclips Red, Showtime, etc....I wasn't going to pay for another just for 1 show - with commercials - the only problem with RUclips, is that the shows keeps running all night. With Netflix, it would run 4 episodes (I'm asleep by then) and stop to ask, "You still watching"....so its odd to wake up to Cheers LOL
Seinfeld is better IMHO, because it had way better and smarter writing, but Cheers holds its own.
Cheers #1, Mash #2, Curb Your Enthusiasm #3, Seinfeld #4, Married with Children #5
Let's not forget! Roseanne and the golden girls.
Rest in Peace Kirstie Alley
Quality we don't now days.
Can we all imagine how many lawsuits would pop up looking for a settlement over harassment, if this could even made in today's "Me Too" era.
@Wayne Smith Norman Lear would still be in jail after creating Archie. Followed by very heavy fines and numerous settlements. Everybody's feeling uncomfortable today.
women dont want a man, hashtag me too!!
When clips of older shows are posted, most folks just like to reminisce about how cool it was or how funny or how good the actors were, or whatever. But there's always that one guy who feels compelled to whine about how the world's changed. Thing is, change is what the world does. We can either adapt or cry about it.
@@halleck3 true we could just change it ourselves Iran used to be very liberal now not so much
@@benjamindenton9453 When was this?
That's Angela Aames, the beautiful, buxum at 1:26, she's from Pierre, SD-check her out on wikipedia !!
I watched her as a cheerleader when I was a sophomore, and will never forget it.....
Damn, you lucky bugger
@@Noycey64 huge "tracks of land"..huge
Sam was storming the castle very often before he meets Diane.
I like the episode when Sam says "I don't have sandals, what you want me to do, wears turkeys on my feet?"
Sam"s character is actually an 'ex' alcoholic ..I remember an episode when someone says 'oh ho Sam's boozing again'...
Sam is like many guys I met so I feel very "at home" can't say I like it though 😅
My life
Breaking The Envelope
First it was Pushing the Envelope
"Diane Chambers" = wife
"Chicks" = love
The most promiscuous male character in sitcoms along with Joey in F.R.E.I.N.D.S.
i would put Schmidt from New Girl on that list
and Benjamin Franklin Pierce from M*A*S*H, of course
"The Fonz" Anyone?😂🏍😏📺B.W.
